I just flew from Tokyo to SF last week. It was actually pretty crazy. I'd never been on an international flight that didn't have in-seat entertainment or that food didn't come with the flight. I mean we were paying 4 dollars for water. It did have free wifi though which is pretty sweet. If the price different is meaningful and you don't mind packing food + water you're fine. Seats were average.

Will415fnm

Where ya able to at least lean the seats back like in avg airlines?

minakobunny

Where did they weigh your bags at Tokyo? Checkin counter? Or somewhere else?

FlyingPotatoGirl

I believe the weighed our bags at the check in counter. I could be getting that mixed up with a different trip though.

I flew Tokyo - Manila, but in case it helps.. They were aggressive about carry on weight limit and you can't pay to exceed it. For my flight it was 7kg and they would combine your personal item into that if you had one. My coat/pocket items were ignored. I would use a luggage scale when packing. This weight check was done at the ticket counter and did not happen again at the gate, if that's of interest. Pre-booking additional weight on checked luggage was cheaper than doing it at the gate. I would definitely fly them again, the discount was significant even with my overweight check bag.

eremika0000

What happens if your carry on exceeds the weight limit ? Would they make you check the bag instead ?

kalmus1970

Yes if they test the weight you'd have to check if you were over.

NobodyWins22

Do they give you some type of sticker to put on the carry on and personal item after they check it? For example, can’t you technically just hide the personal item and only show the carry on and get their approval and then get the personal item and go to the gate? Or would the personal item need to have some type of “approval sticker” or something that they check at the gate?

I recently flew with Zip Air and would definitely fly with them again ( I'm extremely cheap when it comes to airlines and can tolerate budget flights and all they entail reasonably well). I can only answer the following: - Comfort: the seats are fine, I'm 6'0 and slightly overweight and it was fairly comfortable. Leg room was fine. I didn't sleep, but I generally can't sleep on flights. I can't compare to others other than budget airlines, but it was better than those others (Norse / Norwegian) marginally. One odd thing, they have a strict policy of ensuring you stay in your seat. If you see unoccupied seats and fancy a lie down they won't allow it. - Add-ons: I just got the blanket and slippers plus cookies, not really worth it. I saw other people who bought meals and it looked OK (curry I think). Price of food and drink in flight is reasonable. - No issues checking in or boarding at all.

No-Understanding4968

Oh, so you can also order food in flight without pre-ordering? Interesting

Turn-Loose-The-Swans

Mainly snacks, instant noodles and stuff.

pizzaeater619

Only if they have some left over! Other than that just snacks and maybe cup noodle

Thank You, Do you remember if you landed at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2-3 at Narita Airport? I'm trying to figure out how to get from the airport to tokyo/yokohama area. Was landing at 8:00pm too late to catch a train after going through immigration?

Turn-Loose-The-Swans

I don't recall which terminal we landed at. I found this website which might be helpful https://www.klook.com/blog/narita-airport-to-tokyo-guide/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAnrOtBhDIARIsAFsSe52XfUCguCXlmSDrgEpef3SWOelOq0w6Kv8x5KhRsxeAfwOGg0jImXsaAtveEALw_wcB When I landed I took a bus from Narita to Tokyo so might be worth checking on bus times.

ButteryBonBons

Hi, don't know if my reply is too late for you but Zipair lands at terminal 1, north wing at Narita. It's a short 2 min walk to the south wing where you get the JR passes/WelcomeSuica/to the train platforms. I've flown it 3 times. If you are getting a JR pass, there is an express train (called NE'X or Narita Express) to tokyo that goes directly out of narita, and when you pick up your JR pass you actually let them know where you are going and they will reserve the seat for you (seat reservation is free with the JR pass on this train). I took it directly to shinjuku on one trip, and to asakusa on another trip. I don't know what this looks like without the JR pass but since the price hike made the JR pass expensive, I'll probably still book narita express round trip tickets separately on my next trip as they are only around 5,000 yen. The NEX train also goes directly to yokohama.

hur88

They're fine. But just know that if you miss your flight, you are out all the money. Zipair has a strict no changes/cancellations policy.

Zucchini-12

I second this. Absolutely no way to make changes of any sort. Be very sure of your travel plans before booking.

pizzaeater619

Flew San Jose to Tokyo on ZipAir and everything went great. From San Jose to Tokyo they don’t really check your carry ones for weight and size, but at Narita airport in Tokyo they measure and weight everything. Something to keep in mind. The seats were comfortable and my partner had no problem falling asleep. We pre-ordered food which is pretty cheap and if we got hungry we just ordered food in flight. The WiFi sucks so don’t rely on it to stream anything. Would fly them again

Square_Marketing_234

In narita do they weigh your carry-on at the counter or at the gate? Or both?

SushiSamurai808

Did they let you order a second meal?

I flew them one way LAX-NRT in May. The seat was comfortable and inflight entertainment was good. My only complaint, and this isn't really their fault, just annoying, is that I paid for 10kg of carryon then apparently my bags weighed 12kg. So I had to pay another $60 to check my backpack, and got no credit for the money I'd already paid for the extra carryon. This also meant the meal I bought could have better just been a meal+luggage combo and I'd have saved a bunch over what I ended up paying. Again, I recognize this isn't their fault that I was 2kg over but I'm annoyed that it ended up with me shelling out an extra $60. I definitely would still fly them again though and just watch my baggage weight more closely.

I don't remember which terminal, but 8pm is definitely early enough to get a train into Tokyo at least and likely onward to Yokohama.

annarechards

Buy a neck pillow and get ready to watch a lot of movies! Those lie-flat seats go fast.
