Would you mind saying which airline? Generally if the flight is published then it won't change, I would book now if you are sure about that won't miss it, getting a refund isn't easy. Also ONLY book directly from the airline website/app

A few different ones, we'll be there for 3 months and moving around a bit! I was indeed going to book directly, good call though!

Yes this far ahead there is good chance they could reschedule or cancel. Most Europeans do not book trips that far ahead, most flights will be booked a few months out generally. And don't forget in Europe you can get around most of it by train, which saves baggage fees, and takes you much closer to the city than an airport. Obviously it doesn't work for long stretches, but flights like Paris to Amsterdam, London to Paris, are almost pointless.

Oh yes we'll be doing train travel as much as we can, but like you say in some instances it's just too far (a whole day of travel vs a couple hours to the airport and in the air). It's good advice, and I was trying to stick to just train travel but for some spots it's not great :(

That's great - it was more because your post reads like you need a lot of flights, so I wasn't sure what you were trying. Really all you can do is book and have good insurance. You can read up on EU flight cancellation rules but essentially if they cancel/change it more than 14 days before all you are entitled to is a refund or "rerouting" (this can mean anything though, eg some other airport, a different day...). Therefore you need insurance and a **degree** of flexibility in the long term. On popular routes, with many flights, you are unlikely to be impacted by a change, and if you are it's likely to be very minor. However if you are reliant on a niche route than is not frequent, there is more chance of a problem. Low cost airlines have a lot of these than only run a few times a week so you need to watch out. Booking flexible hotels/accomodation, at least if you're doing it this far out, can help you avoid being stranded.

We'll be on popular routes, sounds like it should be fine! Not sure exactly how many flights we'll need, we're still working out the exact schedule and detail, but we'll probably need 3, maybe 4, one-ways on popular routes, and not very close together. Thank you for your write-up, it helps! (and yes we'll have insurance)

Which carriers do you mean? Usually the idea is that its cheap because u pay extra if u want a buch of stuff u would normally have included on normal carriers. For example carry on, sometimes even a personal bag u can put under ur seat. Talking about seat they are often very uncomfortable. But if u buy it from the official website and not some sus place u are fine. They wont just randomly get cancelled moved or so on. They have fixed schedules they have to follow and just because they are cheap doesnt mean they do stuff like that. I personally always book much earlier in advance, no matter what i fly with. If u buy too late the prices then for a cheaper airline will be just as high as a normal airline right now.

Oh excellent, thanks so much! Many different carriers, we'll be moving around a fair bit.
