It’ll always be insane to me that he made that album at 20. It’s such a versatile and eclectic sound for the time. Sampling shoegaze, Beach House, and Radiohead while singing like Michael Jackson with an obscene vocabulary. All wrapped up in a hip hop and R&B aesthetic. Also occasionally dropping bars like in Loft Music.
It feels like since HoB was made in 2011, so many artists have tried to do a HoB impression but no one has been able to do it with the same artistic integrity. Same thing with Frank Ocean after he made Channel Orange. Those two were miles ahead of their peers with those records and it seems like people still haven’t caught up.
