I’ve not had a Wenzells but there’s a Greggs competitor called Waterfields in the North West that my wife loves! I’ll have to find a Wenzells vegan sausage roll next time I’m in Hertfordshire.
Sheila's Aussie Bakery shows up at the Cary Farmer's Market sometimes and their website says to check out their social media for pop ups and farmers market events they go to
seconded. i'm at the western wake farmers market in morrisville which they come to occasionally as well. good pies and sausage rolls. the husband who sells will tell you they are australian and superior to UK pies, but i don't think they are too different
I'm planning on eating a whole bunch of tasty pies this Saturday, June 22. So excited!
I have a vegetarian friend in North Raleigh who's family is from the UK. Hoping they have some non-meat offerings as it'll make his day, and I see they run a truck up in his area.
They were totally sold out at the Cary Farmer’s Market before I got there at 10-ish. Apparently pre-ordering is a good idea if you want to ensure you get yourself some tasty pies.
It was so hot and busy out there I went right past and didn't even see them, but my daughter said she remembered seeing the name.
The "just happens to be vegan" pastry booth knocked it out of the park though. I still can't figure out how they made such awesome goodies without butter! We got chocolate chip cookies that tasted as rich as donuts, a gooey brownie, peach crumb bar, and a peach croissant. I absolutely inhaled that peach crumb bar.
At least you found one within a 3 hour radius. That’s better than nothing. And I’m guessing many of us drive through Richmond periodically. I know I do when heading north up the East coast.
Was hoping to just buy some freshly made pies and immediately stuff my face. My partner is suggesting I start learning how to make hot water pie crust and give it a go.
That's just good marketing, they're actually the worst pies in London. Now, Mrs. Mooney's shop is said to use real meat! Although there's a rumor about her neighborhood....
I’ve said for YEARS that someone would make good money opening a British/aussie style pie shop that has savory pies and sausage rolls. And please some cheese and onion pasties!
You can order proper british (frozen) pies from Parkers, British Food Depot, etc. not fresh I know. More in the winter you can find a good chicken pie at various restaurants (though none come to mind.) the chicken balti pies at trader joes are delicious for pie and mash night. I also like the chicken pot pie at whole foods.
I’m a Brit living in NC and I would also very much like to be directed to the local equivalent of a Greggs please.
I was daydreaming in traffic about opening a Greggs equivalent the other day. There’s no good alternative or even a decent pub here 😭
If you ever do live your dream of sausage rolls and steak bakes please let me know!
I was just back in the UK and Greggs has a rival in Hertfordshire now called Wenzells - I got the most delicious vegan sausage roll!!

Same. Would love a good sausage roll, or even a Gregg's sausage roll
Pies in the photos are from The Piemaker in Edinburgh. Just in case you make it up north. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XdZ18aH7kEYnSVdG8?g_st=ic
I really want the little sausages from Tesco.

Ohhhhhhh! This food truck looks really, really promising. And is honestly a perfect food truck food to sell. https://www.sheilasaussiebakery.com/
They were really good. I had them for the very first time at the international food festival last weekend.
Another vote from me!

It looks like they will be in Cary on the 22nd, I might have to check it out. Thank you for sharing!

Agreed!! She's the best!
Honestly, and I know this is probably not useful… but every few months I drive up to Richmond to go to Proper Pie Co and stock up on their meat pies 😂
This! They're so damn good. We stop there every time we drive up north, both ways.
At least you found one within a 3 hour radius. That’s better than nothing. And I’m guessing many of us drive through Richmond periodically. I know I do when heading north up the East coast.
Check them out next time you’re up there!
Yes! Blew me away! I plan trips to Richmond just for them.
Pouring one out for the hand pies from Pie Bird (RIP).
We make our own but Trader Joe’s has a steak/ale pie in freezer section that might work in a pinch

So worth it- and you can make in batches and freeze them.
Finally someone asking the right/important questions
I'd avoid Fleet Street, personally.
But I heard they’re the “best pies in London”

🙀
Kim's Bake Shop in Hillsborough usually has a fridge full of pot pies with different kinds of meat.
I don’t know about locally, but there’s this place in Greensboro. I think you can also have it shipped to you. https://scottishgourmetusa.com

Breakaway cafe has great chicken pot pies!

Sheila's Aussie Bakery makes some great meat pies!
Wooden Nickel in Hillsborough has some great take and bake savory pie options.
I don’t see any pies on their menu.
They post them on a chalkboard in the bar itself. I think they must be from Kim’s (another poster mentioned it), so check there
