Whoah! Full 12 jurors and an alternate all of a sudden! Was only 7 half an hour ago.

N-shittified

Thank you for calling it what it is.

>As jury selection proceeds inside, members of the news media are also staked out outside the courthouse during a drizzling rain. We're a little cold and a little wet — but very eager to speak with dismissed jurors as they leave court. >Mark DeMuro, 71, an artist and art dealer, was happy to oblige, speaking with a dozen reporters and photographers and patiently answering the same questions again and again. >“It would have been really interesting to participate, but it wouldn’t have been proper for me to participate because I have a history of satirizing Mr. Trump,” DeMuro said. “That could have been weaponized by his defense.” >He added, “I want this to proceed. I want it to be fair.” >And how does Trump in the flesh compare with DeMuro’s caricatures of him? The dismissed juror said they match. >“Quite orange,” he said. “A bit rotund. Maybe less so than before.” >An [Instagram account that appears to belong to DeMuro](https://www.instagram.com/markdemuro/?hl=en) includes a cartoon of Trump in the nude.

>[Prosecutors] told the judge they wanted the former president held in contempt and sanctioned for seven more posts they said violated his gag order. Love it

Ok_Produce_9308

They cited 7 gag order violations already.

Oh snap. One of the confirmed jurors dropped out because reporters were too explicit and people figured out who she was. Judge Merchan is admonishing reporters now. >At the beginning of today's proceedings, Justice Juan Merchan announced that one of the jurors who had been selected on Tuesday — an oncology nurse from the Upper East Side — called the court yesterday to say that "after sleeping on it overnight, she had concerns about her ability to be fair and impartial in this case." He asked her to come to court today for further questioning. >Merchan then quickly excused the juror. She said that "yesterday, alone, I had friends, colleagues and family push things to my phone regarding questioning my identity as a juror." She added: "I don’t believe, at this point, that I can be fair and unbiased and let the outside influences not affect my thinking in the courtroom." - >Justice Juan Merchan admonished reporters covering the trial after he dismissed a juror who said her family and friends deduced who she was by following public reports of the case. >The judge said he was “directing” reporters to apply common sense and refrain from publishing “physical descriptions” of jurors. >He pointed to reports that identified the first juror had an accent from a European country.

Scrimgali

This is SO fucked up

popsy13

He should have done that to the reporters from the start, so much for the jury remaining ‘anonymous’

He’s quiet this morning…. (Posted at 8:26am so I can look like a clown in 15 minutes when he goes on a spree)

XanderTheMander

He's probably nervous after his "Jury" post. My bet is the judge warns him to delete it and says if he does that again he will go to jail.

McIgglyTuffMuffin

As much as I would love that I think it’s more likely going to go like this: Prosecution raises the post today. Merchan says they’ll discuss it on the 23rd with the other 3. 4/23: Merchan agrees on $1,000/post. Trump owes 4K and is told to delete said posts. Fine gets kicked up to 2,500 or 3,000 an event. If he crosses the line it gets kicked up to 5,000, and then again if he does it 10,000. If he crosses the line at 10,000 then he’ll get held for 24 hours. After that? Who knows. We all, including the judge, know Trump is going to attempt to appeal his conviction. And sadly there is two systems at play here so he has to be given an insane amount of chances for whatever damn reason.

N-shittified

Trump wants to get the 24-hour hold in jail so bad. I can tell his campaign team is already asking AI "create a picture depicting Donald Trump nailed to a cross wearing a crown of thorns" for their impending meme-storm.

FloridaGirlNikki

I really don't think he'll hold it until the 23rd. It was too brazen, and about a juror. That's very different. We shall see! Edit: I stand corrected! The 23rd it shall be.

XanderTheMander

Merchan can't arbitrarily assign a fee. [This is the memo posted by DA](https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24549161/20240415-people-mem-of-law-in-support-of-motion-for-contempt-filed.pdf) which references the [NY law 750 and the punishment 751](https://newyork.public.law/laws/n.y._judiciary_law_section_750) that allows a fine of up to 1,000 or up to 30 days in prison.

Mike_Pences_Mother

Well, $1000 isn't going to mean shit to him but I bet a night in jail would

Unhappy_Junket1003

Normally I'd agree but think every single miniscule dollar hurts his ego and that's why he's notorious for not paying. Wasn't he the one that cashed checks for literal cents that one of the newspapers were sending out just to see who would actually cash them?

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Boooooo. I understand it, but boooooo But thank you!
