It’s so strange how TOP can have no defined genre yet every one of their songs sounds like it’s a TOP song. Probably why I love the band so much. It’s almost impossible to get bored of their music because there’s so much diversity.
Imo its cause tylers singing is very unique, but Josh's drumming is also fairly unique to their style. Everything else could come from another group but those two make it fairly easy to tell if its them
I only got into TOP a couple of years ago. My music collection was feeling stale so I was asking a lot of people for suggestions, and one of those happened to be TOP.
So I started a pandora station for them because I didn’t just want to hear stuff from them but also other similar artists. This introduced me to a few other good artists like AJR and NF. But for the most part, whenever I found a new song I liked and thought “Oh neat, this sounds like a band I haven’t heard before” and then checked who it was, most every time my next thought was “What? This is TOP too? But this doesn’t even sound like any of their other songs I’ve heard!”
It really is amazing how good they are at just shifting to fit any genre, or more so odd combinations of multiple genres. And with Clancy not only have they continued with that, but they’ve pushed the boundaries even further imo.
One More Light has to be my least favorite album. It's not bad; it just feels even more generic than some of their other songs. Even though they have had a genre, they've certainly made themselves unique in other ways.
OML usually sits at the bottom of most lists for a reason but it does still command some respect for (hopefully) obvious reasons
also talking to myself slaps
Tbf if the final chapter is an EP/second album, I feel like Overcompensate was a song that was written before everything else, probably back when they really wanted to make Clancy the final chapter, so the second album can sound like Overcompensate. Ofc it's just my theory, but I think it makes sense.
They seriously have some of the most flawless transitions of any band I know. As far as completely switching gears they make it work perfectly every time

Exactly, that’s a great way to put it! People are confused when I tell them that I listen to them constantly. I never feel bored!

they're right there with linkin park in that respect
I’d argue LP has more of a genre than them. Regardless, both great bands.
yeah you could definitely pin LP as a rock band (excluding one more light)

Again, not a bad album. Just not their best. Everything hits so hard after Chester died.
They're considered alternative. That's their defined genre.
It’s a very vague genre
It truly is one of their best and that is why I am sad that literally nothing else on Clancy sound even close to it.

I hope ur right...
Second album? You still believe in that?
You still DON’T believe in that? Lmao
I really want to but when???
2025.
I don’t know if I believe it either, but Tyler has said that he’s written a lot of songs recently. I’m optimistic, but I want to wait and see.
same 🥲
Yea I know right
They seriously have some of the most flawless transitions of any band I know. As far as completely switching gears they make it work perfectly every time
totally agree! 🙌
I absolutely adore the new album, but what I'd do for a whole album in the style of Overcompensate...
same tbh
Overcompensate is by far my favourite track on the album, possibly of all their album.
