Right. So in the hood? It makes perfect sense then. What if this person was just assaulted or mugged walking home recently, and now their family only wants them to take Ubers? "Don't walk home. Just tell me and I'll call you an Uber."
Born in the hood btw. I've driven both in and out of the hood. Every person deserves safe passage from one door to another. We keep people safe. We are not treated like it, but we are actually very important.
I took a trip from Santa Monica Pier to this place without knowing which specific area I was going to. The information was the house address, and it said Los Angeles. At no point did I check if it was a dangerous place because you only have a few seconds to see the information in the small tab that Uber shows when you have continuous trips.
Lesson: Use Stop New Requests whenever possible( all the time if you can) gives you a chance to take a break, re-position, evaluate new areas after a drop, and take a break again…🤓
Yeah man, anything south of Wilshire Blvd or the 10 in the east, north of the 91, and west of the 605 (big area, I know) was a big no when I drove. I haven’t done Uber in over a year but I’m still in the app.
Lol why are y’all scared of Compton? When I drove I picked up there all the time. Never had an issue. Compton’s reputation is very outdated. It’s not the 90s anymore, you really won’t run into trouble unless you’re looking for it.
Anywhere that involves a lot of crack is going to have an edge. Crackheads will do anything for crack. Maybe they all went away, but that doesn’t seem possible
Not many drivers around that area so they pay a bit more but I'm not trying to get robbed for a couple of bucks more. I stopped picking after the lyft driver got shot in the back in the head and other incidents that targeted rideshare drivers.
Oh and in Long Beach you can forget it. I got caught up in a police chase. The police were chasing someone on the 710 and the driver almost ran me off the road! LBC can forget it
I'm not sure if I was😂. But there was once a police chase in Redondo Beach right near the beach. I was doing Uber and had pax in the car. The police chase was announced on the radio and I just so happened to drive right next to the chase. I'm pretty sure we were on tv for that one.
What I hate about this type of stuff is you have to actually complete the ride first before you can give feedback of inappropriate name. No where In the pre ride deny or pre pickup can you say improper name. At best we have not safe to pickup 😒
82nd is nowhere near Compton…..Compton is south of El Segundo Blvd (around 130th) down to the 91 (around 175th) and there are very few numbered streets within Compton itself.
Anyone who actually drives the L.A market (like myself), I can bet you don't have many horror stories about driving there (Compton). I drive every area of L.A. and Orange County and (knock on wood) have never had a horror story in Compton specifically. Actually, not South Central either. I have in Orange County, though. And I had one near Beverly Hills. Half of these people commenting probably don't live in California and are thinking of Boyz N Da Hood or NWA. I'm not saying that I make it a point to stay in that area for long periods of time and that I haven't ran into annoying people but as far as fearing my safety or otherwise, could happen anywhere nowadays.
That’s what I was thinking. I’m a SoCal native. I’m not even sure the guy who posted this really drives the L.A. market because anyone who knows where things are knows Compton is further south. This dude ain’t even to the 105 yet.
I agree with you, too. I live near Compton, and although I wouldn't say it is safe, I don't think it is dangerous as many people outside of LA would think. I, too, have had my share of safety concerns in areas such as Orange Country, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. I tend to drive late hours, too, and sometimes do get shady rides like these with weird names. But, for the most part, these people have been chill. They just need a ride.
Still, I suggest being alert and safe out there. You never know when it could be the "one in a million" ride that is not safe to take. This is with Uber in general, not because of any area.
I agree 100%. And I completely forgot about the West Hollywood weirdos lol. It's just best to stay vigilant on every ride and area instead of saying "Oh, I don't go in such and such area".
I lived there too. Not a big deal. It didn't seem as unsafe as people assume. I'm from San Bernardino and grew up in the "murder capital of the world" (in the 80s). I date myself. LOL. Anyway, that was rougher than Compton. Hard times.
I agree! And I am going to be honest, most “ghetto”people can’t afford Uber in LA. I had some sketchy passengers in LA, I think they’re low income living in hotels but they were never unreasonable.
I looked up the address on google maps. Judging by the satellite image of the blocks, the spacing of the houses, the lack of driveways, there are several dead giveaways that this area is GHETTO.
You're more than welcome to operate your vehicle there, but don't be surprised if others don't and are vocal about WHY they don't
Virtue signaling is strong with you, maybe go volunteer your time at a local charity so you can make a difference.
Nobody is saying they can't express their opinions or drive where they want but it's always better to have an opinion on something you know about or are educated about. You looked it up on Google Maps and have an opinion on it? You obviously don't understand the definition of virtue signaling, but I'm glad you saw it on the internet somewhere and thought you would sound intelligent using it (albeit incorrectly).
The fact that you think lack of driveways and spacing of housing is ghetto shows that you aren't familiar with Los Angeles at all. But feel free to keep giving advice on something that you know nothing about.
I forgot to mention that the spacing of the homes is so tight there aren't even yards or swimming pools. Just a few blocks east in Walnut Park and South Gate, you can see there are yards, driveways and pools.
You can tell so much about the area by doing this simple check. Another simple one would be to compare the amount of laundromats, pawn shops, and check cashing/payday loan businesses there are block by block.
😆 Go ask anybody who lives or drives in L.A if they think SouthGate is any better than Compton. The thing about L.A is this...there are million dollar homes next to poor neighborhoods. And a $700000 or million dollar house isn't uncommon. L.A is completely different from most areas that have clearly defined poor and rich areas.
I will cancel anything like an initial, wierd nickname or an emoji.
You have to be honest with yourself because if your car gets stolen it’s a $2000 deductible through Farmers Insurance in terms of loss (my personal experience; robbed at gunpoint).
Because my name isn’t what people call me duh, the fuq kind of a question is that? I mean shit if you go by your name more power to you but I barely even recognize when people call me my name.
Uber has a false name reason for cancellation, if you select this. It will force the rider to update thier name after the fact. But yes cancel and use the false name reason.
This happens when someone orders a ride for another person who has an Uber account. Uber will name the rider whatever their contact name is in the account holder’s phone.
That’s great 👊 If u have already been passed the background check But those are things that the driver is completely unaware of, it would be smarter if Uber sent a message telling him that, don't you think?🤔
People who have no name or weird ass emojis or abbreviations is a no for me!!!! Uber couldn’t care less about our safety and I’m looking forward to quitting for good by the end of the year!!!! Going to school getting professional certifications and new skills then I’m out 🫰✌️
Agree with you Buddy however this things happens everyday all times My recommendation is to study something with which you can create your own business.
Sometimes that happens when the app user is calling an Uber for someone else. Like in this example, maybe that’s the app user’s significant other (heart). I had one that said “Wifey 💍”
I was hesitant but it was a mom with a new born and even had a baby seat in Compton. I was just taking them to her husband.
FYI, you have the option to change your name as well in the driver app
As a person who drives locally from home in case emergencies
I live close to Compton but I even avoid the area cause fuck no lol I rarely pick up or drop off there
In between most of my rides, I stop all requests. The reason being is, I don’t want to be looking at my phone while I’m driving passenger. I don’t want to take my eyes off the road while I’m on the highway, even for a second.
They don’t even check id’s when u make the uber account. U can register a new account and request a ride right away without entering any correct data!!!
I've driven mostly all over CA. I've been a driver for children, the elderly etc. The worst experience that I've ever had with a passenger was in Santa Monica. It was really ghetto
I had one before that was 🏀✌🏾🏈☮️✊✊🏾 and I promptly reported to Uber, sorry if I have to have my name, picture, and plate # the passenger should at a minimum be required to have a picture and name! They should also have to take their picture periodically to prove it’s really them!
I could’ve swore in one of Ubers updates they said they were gonna put a stop to passengers being able to use nicknames but I still see that shit so like…wtf I hate when they have nicknames on there cause you can’t identify them if something happens or even to make sure it’s the correct person getting in the car. I usually cancel those rides.
The system permits it because they don’t want to lose any passengers. It’s the same with false accounts using fake identifications; if they deactivate those accounts with suspicious names, they would lose millions of dollars. This is ultimately a matter of money.💰💰💰💰.
Ok, I see. So if something criminal is committed by "s" then they still have enough info behind it to track them down. Honestly, when I see that most times I won't pick them up. Just move on.
Was it a guest trip?
People ordering ubers for others think it's cute to be cute.
I always shame dude about it.
"So your significant other is paying for this and thought HUSBAND(emoji, emoji, emoji, emoji, emoji, emoji, emoji, emoji) was the right way for me to find you?!?"
They always either laugh or grunt. You can't explain this shit.
Sure, it may look or sound nice to do those kinds of things with your partner, but what I wonder is how the Uber security team doesn't notice these things. And what if they deactivate your account because of a negative comment from a passenger?
....Uber? .....security? ....team?
Buddy. That elite squad of paramilitary protection is lead by Christopher Kringle.
And there's no way the dude who's getting picked up on his partner's dime is bitching about the ride. Those rides are a freebie. Both in ratings and in tips. You ain't gotta worry about either. They ain't happening.
I don’t accept Uber share anymore. It ain’t worth it. I’m blessed enough to drive few hours on Vegas strip. I stopped taking locals going from home in summerlin to the strip, not taking locals is working out bc most of them are sadly too stressed and depressed. Visitors on the strip is mostly happy peeps.
I got a $100 tip out of a multi stop drug run one night (Florida) very nice well spoken (you know what) guy.
1 hour, all stops put in the app and back to his house.
The last thing they want is trouble. (2y ago)
.... yes he had a funny name
This pax tried to steal my purse. He was very angry for some reason. And he became angrier because I refused to get upset. I didn't feel safe at all. I will not do pick ups in Santa Monica again.
Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. That’s a new call Uber and tell him hey you need to check this account and let me guess a guy walked out. I don’t know why Uber lets people put the stupidest names and emojis for names. It makes no sense but we have to have our full name a photo everything and then we have to take a picture of verify ourselves all these drivers, need to stop picking up people that are not who they say they are and when a guy comes out and it’s a girls name I won’t pick them up
I drove an “Isis” a couple days ago and a “Spankmyass” last summer (many others in my time driving). I don’t understand why they are able to do this. They know way more about us than we do about them. We can’t even get a real name🙄
Hi I can bet that you never had a gun in ur head “It’s easy to talk behind a screen, but when you feel the cold metal on your head, that’s when all the bravado disappears.”
This isn't compton. Also even if you knew this person's name why would it matter? The person's name doesn't make them more or less dangerous. If you're scared of certain neighborhoods you shouldn't be driving.
I don’t know if you’re a driver or not, but I’ll tell you something important. How do you know if it’s the right passenger? The name clearly matters, especially if an issue occurs inside the car. It’s the first thing Uber support asks for when making a passenger claim. I have over 20,000 rides on both platforms, and with my experience, I can confidently say that I am not afraid of anything or anyone, except God.
My complaint is mainly about the incompetence of these rideshare companies. They are obliged to show you the passenger information, including the price, stops, and more. However, there is still a gap in this system that is easy to fix, yet these companies have not been able to resolve it for a long time.
It's not about whether the name of the person you're picking up sounds nice or not. The point is that you have a stranger in your car, and it's your responsibility as a driver partner to ask for the name of the person you're picking up. Otherwise, it could be someone else. As a driver, you can't afford to let any stranger into your car, no matter the area. So, stop assuming the name, color, or race of the person I picked up, because unconsciously, the racists are you.
Bonus🫶
Additionally, in case of any incident inside or outside your car, you need to report the passenger by their name, not with a fucking emoji.
Red flag all around. Shared ride in any neighborhood is a no especially Compton. And a heart emoji in any neighborhood is a no. And picking someone up in Compton could be a red flag.
This occurs because when they sign up, they link their Google account to their Uber account. As a result, it pulls contact information from their Google address book, listing the person according to how they are saved in the phone.
It's like any place else. People are just trying to get to work, school, home, the mall, grocery store, grandma's house, the airport, Disneyland or wherever. Just regular people.
LOL. It's adorable. I'd totally get that customer. Sounds like a teenage girl. She probably has had creepy drivers and she doesn't want them knowing her name.
Your point of view is interesting, but if, as you say, we remove the wig, nails, and false eyelashes from that adorable young woman, I bet she would look much creepier than I do.🫶
Negative. I do that at the range. I’ve only ever had to pull my firearm once in a decade of carrying, and it was when a loose dog started attacking me and my dog. Thankfully I was able to scare him back through the fence he broke out of. I have had a gun pulled on me, though lol
Yeah no fucking way. Cancel and move on. Even in a “safe” area.
Thank you I will the next time unfortunately the drop off was practically in the same street where was the pickup location
that make it even more sketchy wtf
Yes
Right. So in the hood? It makes perfect sense then. What if this person was just assaulted or mugged walking home recently, and now their family only wants them to take Ubers? "Don't walk home. Just tell me and I'll call you an Uber." Born in the hood btw. I've driven both in and out of the hood. Every person deserves safe passage from one door to another. We keep people safe. A good area for some arrow-head to set up a robbery
one or more less criminals on the street, i guess that’s why these things don’t happen in my town
Wdym arrow head?
The pax name is a heart and arrow, so ac is a arrowhead
Arrow-Heart. :)
Uber says they are for safety, yet you have to make business decisions in a split second while taking your eyes off the road
Like LA Compton? Why the hell are you driving there for man? South LA and Compton are a big no for me. Only drop offs then I'm out.
I took a trip from Santa Monica Pier to this place without knowing which specific area I was going to. The information was the house address, and it said Los Angeles. I saw a documentary about Compton titled “Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood”. Seems rough.
Anywhere that involves a lot of crack is going to have an edge. Crackheads will do anything for crack. Maybe they all went away, but that doesn’t seem possible
Where did crack come from??? I’ve seen junkies smoking on the sidewalk in Santa Monica. Lol like Compton is just full of crackheads ? Smh
The crack epidemic didn’t exactly go away
I’ve done Uber eats there and it’s sketchy. I’d never pick someone up! The base pay is higher sometimes probably because of the area. 😂
Not many drivers around that area so they pay a bit more but I'm not trying to get robbed for a couple of bucks more. I stopped picking after the lyft driver got shot in the back in the head and other incidents that targeted rideshare drivers.
I've driven around there during the day and it was fine. The people I picked up were really nice actually..
Try at night
Oh and in Long Beach you can forget it. I got caught up in a police chase. The police were chasing someone on the 710 and the driver almost ran me off the road! LBC can forget it
Wow you were probably on tv
I'm not sure if I was😂. But there was once a police chase in Redondo Beach right near the beach. I was doing Uber and had pax in the car. The police chase was announced on the radio and I just so happened to drive right next to the chase. I'm pretty sure we were on tv for that one.
I picked up in Fullerton and dropped in LBC and kids were great. Good ride. :P
"Shared?" .... "Compton?" ... "No Name?" Just 1 is an auto cancel. I'm not sure why you accepted.

Yup! That's my attitude, too. If you are willing to drive, then you are already willing to accept the inherint risk regardless of the area.
I lived there too. Not a big deal. It didn't seem as unsafe as people assume. I'm from San Bernardino and grew up in the "murder capital of the world" (in the 80s). I date myself. LOL. Anyway, that was rougher than Compton. Hard times.
This. The folks I pick up in south LA usually the nicest people. Working people looking to go to work or the grocery store
You're more than welcome to operate your vehicle there, but don't be surprised if others don't and are vocal about WHY they don't Virtue signaling is strong with you, maybe go volunteer your time at a local charity so you can make a difference.
They probably just want to ride around listening to their music on their headphones.
Yoooo I respect those type of riders… they let me recharge my social batteries AND get paid for it 😎😎 but I always make sure to say hi and bye 👋🏾
I will cancel anything like an initial, wierd nickname or an emoji. You have to be honest with yourself because if your car gets stolen it’s a $2000 deductible through Farmers Insurance in terms of loss (my personal experience; robbed at gunpoint).
If its a safe person why not put your name
Because my name isn’t what people call me duh, the fuq kind of a question is that? I mean shit if you go by your name more power to you but I barely even recognize when people call me my name.
??? Ok so you expect a driver to pick up a heart emoji? Or someone named ace or baby, or pop (I got those requests before)
Uber has a false name reason for cancellation, if you select this. It will force the rider to update thier name after the fact. But yes cancel and use the false name reason.
Emoji instead of a name says a lot about a person
Share? Nope, emoji for a name? Nope.
My name is chickennooble and I still get amazing rides everyday lol
Spicy 🌶️ or not?
I’m more of a chicken and dumplings guy myself but I would still pick it up lol
It’s the teardrop 🥲 emoji you have to worry about
That's a nope. I had a request pop up a couple of weeks ago and the name was just "X." Yeah I noped out of that one big time.
What do you have against love?
Hahahaha I'm totally fine with love as long as you don't put my life at risk.
This happens when someone orders a ride for another person who has an Uber account. Uber will name the rider whatever their contact name is in the account holder’s phone.
Like if it said Bob. Is it actually better
Jimmy! Hey dude, let your mom know I left my wallet on her nightstand again.
Refuse all Share rides. They are trash. The heart emoji is evidence of it too.
Not sure why you wouldn’t pick someone up based on a name with a heart with an arrow. Am I the only one not understanding this?
yes
Yes
🤦🏾♂️
Man you guys really will complain about anything
Hahahaha sound funny but ur talking like costumer or as a Driver ?
I'm a driver. 6 years and a customers name has never mattered
Yeah they don’t check the names but we have to pass a full background check
That’s great 👊 If u have already been passed the background check But those are things that the driver is completely unaware of, it would be smarter if Uber sent a message telling him that, don't you think?🤔
I am a driver? And I don’t follow wym
Near Compton…..That’s Laugable.

You think Ted Bundy’s name sounds creepy? Riders don’t get background checked maybe they should?
White guy with nice car…. Drive in Compton all the time late late at night. Never had a single problem.
Sure 👍
Ruuuun
In between most of my rides, I stop all requests. The reason being is, I don’t want to be looking at my phone while I’m driving passenger. I don’t want to take my eyes off the road while I’m on the highway, even for a second.
I picked up CapnJack the other day…. Not liking the vague names

From what I understand if you order a trip for someone else it displays whatever name you save them in your phone as.
That would make a ton of sense explain why this happens. It makes zero sense for Uber to do it that way.
Sure, it may look or sound nice to do those kinds of things with your partner, but what I wonder is how the Uber security team doesn't notice these things. And what if they deactivate your account because of a negative comment from a passenger?

Yeah, those Palisades kids are gonna stupid me to death.
This pax tried to steal my purse. He was very angry for some reason. And he became angrier because I refused to get upset. I didn't feel safe at all. I will not do pick ups in Santa Monica again.
Truly risky…. I think you should count your lucky stars, but a lotto ticket, get laid… because you could’ve been not only robbed, but gotten 😵💫😵💫

That is a complete lack of effort. Cancel. Especially in a high crime area.
“I’m gonna shoot you in the heart”
Give em a transplant for a brand new start
If Ur a got shooter led me know what kind the millimeters is better for kill somebody 9mm or 22mm?
I drove an “Isis” a couple days ago and a “Spankmyass” last summer (many others in my time driving). I don’t understand why they are able to do this. They know way more about us than we do about them. We can’t even get a real name🙄
lol that’s pretty safe !!!! Or what you were expecting a gun or what ?
Hi I can bet that you never had a gun in ur head “It’s easy to talk behind a screen, but when you feel the cold metal on your head, that’s when all the bravado disappears.”
Like wise !!!!! By the way talking shit but scare of an icon ??
Yeah Sure “Emojis don’t kill, guns do.”
Do heart emojis scare you? Let the Love in.
Hahaha 😂 absolutely but in the other hand what I’ll happen if you have the wrong costumer ?
How would you know if Bob is Bob? The name is a password.
It’s funny how people who have NEVER driven in the area KNOW what’s it’s like to drive there.
And yet you still accepted
Calm down
ive seen mrs, mom, mustard, master, blue owl, only one initial hundreds of times, diva, princess,
You're driving in Compton, and you're worried about a heart emoji?
That’s not compton
That area is shit. People will get food when they start to fuckin act right.
Good thing I’m not a scary cat lol
Sure ![gif](giphy|26xBGcy977zkV5mes|downsized)
It's not about whether the name of the person you're picking up sounds nice or not. The point is that you have a stranger in your car, and it's your responsibility as a driver partner to ask for the name of the person you're picking up. Otherwise, it could be someone else. As a driver, you can't afford to let any stranger into your car, no matter the area. So, stop assuming the name, color, or race of the person I picked up, because unconsciously, the racists are you. Bonus🫶 Additionally, in case of any incident inside or outside your car, you need to report the passenger by their name, not with a fucking emoji.
Imagine it was a pornstar and you just missed the bj of a lifetime 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s exactly the reason why my cancellation rate is over 20% if I accept the ride and the customer does not have a proper name I’m canceling it
Sounds safer than Tyrone.
Classic racism.
Tyrone fucked somebody's wife, long dick style!
Dont call him Tyrone Biggums for nothin!!
I AM old school.
Immediate cancel. Joke name and bs get immediate cancel
Instant Cancel!
Hell no. I reject everyone that doesn't have the appropriate name.
I picked up a pax the other day with the name of pooki bear
Red flag all around. Shared ride in any neighborhood is a no especially Compton. And a heart emoji in any neighborhood is a no. And picking someone up in Compton could be a red flag.
This occurs because when they sign up, they link their Google account to their Uber account. As a result, it pulls contact information from their Google address book, listing the person according to how they are saved in the phone.
Wanna cry some more?
I don’t know how y’all drive in place like L.A.
It's like any place else. People are just trying to get to work, school, home, the mall, grocery store, grandma's house, the airport, Disneyland or wherever. Just regular people.
Very slowly until around 8 pm. After that the pace picks up. That’s how we drive here.
LOL. It's adorable. I'd totally get that customer. Sounds like a teenage girl. She probably has had creepy drivers and she doesn't want them knowing her name.
Your point of view is interesting, but if, as you say, we remove the wig, nails, and false eyelashes from that adorable young woman, I bet she would look much creepier than I do.🫶
My name is an eggplant. I never get problems with drivers picking me up
U should be banned asap
That’s why I drive strapped. I’d have gone personally lol
Idk what it is with people who are legally strapped. Purposefully taking risks to scratch that itchy trigger finger 🤣🤣🤣
But I’d have still taken this ride just knowing I’m well prepared and defended. 🤷🏻♂️
Negative. I do that at the range. I’ve only ever had to pull my firearm once in a decade of carrying, and it was when a loose dog started attacking me and my dog. Thankfully I was able to scare him back through the fence he broke out of. I have had a gun pulled on me, though lol
That’s where they’re gonna put the bullet😬🤣
Hell, no! Probably some Leticia Lakisha Johnson. No tip and shit get out of here.
