I think you're absolutely mistaken, people just don't know about Udio or even Suno for that matter, they don't know it's here already, to the few people that I've showed this it's been an insane experience too, same with ChatGPT, in university a good 4/6 students use it every single day. They don't just go about their day.
Maybe it's because most of the people I interact with are older. Young people seem more likely to be either fascinated or horrified, either of which is a much more appropriate response than indifference.
People, even tech people in the industry, are so abstracted away from how computers actually work that everything is indeed magic at this point. And in their ignorance they may think these developments are not a big deal. But as tech progresses to AGI, humanity at large is about to be hugely humbled.

I've been so ingrained in this for years now. I was one of the first beta users of dalle and tried to show everyone how amazing it was and all I got was but the faces look weird.
People missed the point. I was writing a text prompt and getting something that resembled what I was asking for. I was one of the first to use midjourney, stable diffusion, chat gpt, suno and now udio and people still don't care.
I talk about it so much to my wife that she's sick of hearing about it and the care factor has never peaked. Drives me crazy that people can't acknowledge how amazing the time is that we live in.
I'm with you! There is so much AI-phobia and a willful ignorance within the public at large. Many simply prefer to avert their eyes rather than gaze upon the future. Until there is a robot doing their job and they're sitting at home with an existential crisis, only then will they get it. Really, we need to be preparing for that future NOW, and not waiting for shit to hit the fan. But, we're humanity. Of course the shit will hit the fan.

I gave a talk at a conference on AI in Vegas and many people were there without their spouses because "they aren't interested in AI". My husband isn't really either, but he does listen and shares my excitement.
It was SUPER fun to be in a room of 600 people who "got it".
It would be so nice to be around people who got how amazing a time it is to be alive in. Im old enough to remember the early days of the internet, mobile phones and the jump to colour phones and then smart phones. And all of those things will feel small compared to the changes we are going to go through in the coming years

It's one-to-one learning. Can use Socratic method. You can get it to come up with potential unconsidered ways of rectifying QM & gravitation.

Some people have “prompt patience” which is a technique of patiently throwing away undesired output until the prompt is refined enough to get something amazing and continue building from there. Those who claim udio is mediocre don’t have prompt patience.
I don't get it. Everything I listened to from udio was mid. And the sound quality is pretty poor which doesn't help either.
It's very likely that it will eventually produces music that resonates with me in the future. But as it stands right now, I don't get why everyone is so enamored with it.
A lot of the 30 second clips are mid because people let the AI write the lyrics and it isn't really good at writing lyrics that flow with the beat that make any sense. That area of Udio still needs a lot of work, but when you write your own lyrics and can control the flow it sounds much much better. (but takes about 200 generations that you have to sift through to make a song over 3 minutes)
The AI, by default, also sticks to a strict rhyming convention. It's always line 1, line 2 (rhyming with line 1). Line 3, line 4 (rhyming with line 3).
ChatGPT does this too if you ask for song lyrics. If you want any lyrics that do it differently, you have to specify that. Like telling it to write "free verse." And even then it will slip up. For whatever reason, the AI is really opposed to writing song lyrics that don't have very simple rhyming.
The only way I can figure out how to describe it is, it's like discovering a new great artist, but it doesn't make sense that it's me. Like the music is just out there in some realm of ideas and I just happened upon it and pieced together my favorite bits.
As much as I consider this an anti-art, it's soooo damn fun, and I can see how it could be a great song-writing tool, as long as you use it for that. It does take away alot of the artistic aspect in music creation, but this kinda stuff is inevitable so I'm all for finding ways of incorporating this stuff. Its pretty amazing to me

Might be everything carries on as usual. I don't know how many people will actually try to come up with their own music. Might be plenty of folks that have no interest in doing that and will still support artists.
It is pretty clunky right now, but I can see a future where all the data collected about your life ends up being the prompt when you ask Siri (or whatever!) to write you a song.

This. I have been listening to the same few hundred songs for years because I hate looking for new songs. I added five new songs to my collection from my first night on Udio. I love, love, love it. So fun.
Oh. I've not actually seen or heard that 'Earl Grey in C' before. It's weird hearing a different extension to your own sample.
They could have definitely got a better opening than that though, but it did a decent job on the 3rd extension (the one immediately after the original one), I really struggled with that one. I was struggling with it so much that as soon as got something that worked alright I just rolled with it, but it randomly made it an outro so the sample was automatically put towards the end.
The Earl Grey one has got some nice sounding segments, it sways heavily off theme (as seems to commonly be the case). In my "official" version I stayed on theme a little better, but it's 2 different themes in one so it's like a strange half & half two short movements combined into one. We wouldn't have seen that if it was a proper piece as they would have been made into longer full 1st and 3rd movements with a slower one inbetween.
It's funny, I can't really call it an "official" version, even if you make it from your own sample. Because as soon as you release a sample onto the site it's fair game and in the public domain.

That’s because it’s like showing your friends a drawing your kid made. It’s only special to you because you made it (or something you made made it), no one else actually cares. Exactly! When OpenAi showed off Sora everyone was freaking out (despite it not being available to the public), but this drops and I barely hear about it. I'm not saying every output is a hit, but some are, which is pretty impressive.
Most people are still stuck in that headspace of "this is techbro garbage. It is simple plagerism, it makes copies and remixes and is incapable of originality. Creatives hate AI, and never enjoy it or want to use it. I feel morally obligated to stand with creatives." You will never get through to them, no matter how well you articulate an explanation. They deny everything.
The creative professionals becoming outspoken about their appreciation for AI is helping push back against that narrative, but it's going to be a long road.

Oh. I've not actually seen or heard that 'Earl Grey in C' before. It's weird hearing a different extension to your own sample. They could have definitely got a better opening than that though, but it did a decent job on the 3rd extension (the one immediately after the original one), I really struggled with that one. I was struggling with it so much that as soon as got something that worked alright I just rolled with it, but it randomly made it an outro so the sample was automatically put towards the end. The Earl Grey one has got some nice sounding segments, it sways heavily off theme (as seems to commonly be the case). In my "official" version I stayed on theme a little better, but it's 2 different themes in one so it's like a strange half & half two short movements combined into one. We wouldn't have seen that if it was a proper piece as they would have been made into longer full 1st and 3rd movements with a slower one inbetween. It's funny, I can't really call it an "official" version, even if you make it from your own sample. Because as soon as you release a sample onto the site it's fair game and in the public domain.
I did Earl Grey in C! :-) I hear you on your thoughts, I just did what sounded good to my ear. I am not a musician in the slightest.

Was rather annoying. Maybe I'll come back with some more experimentation on that one actually.

That’s because it’s like showing your friends a drawing your kid made. It’s only special to you because you made it (or something you made made it), no one else actually cares. Another comment I’ve read summed it up well that is like telling people about your dreams, they’re only interested to the person that had them.

Exactly! When OpenAi showed off Sora everyone was freaking out (despite it not being available to the public), but this drops and I barely hear about it. I'm not saying every output is a hit, but some are, which is pretty impressive.
Most people are still stuck in that headspace of "this is techbro garbage. It is simple plagerism, it makes copies and remixes and is incapable of originality. Creatives hate AI, and never enjoy it or want to use it. I feel morally obligated to stand with creatives." You will never get through to them, no matter how well you articulate an explanation. They deny everything. The creative professionals becoming outspoken about their appreciation for AI is helping push back against that narrative, but it's going to be a long road.
I’m a creative and I love AI. I’ve always used the latest technology to progress my ideas so think it’s an amazingly powerful tool to utilize in your workflow.
This is how I felt a year ago when I saw the kinds of things generative graphic art was putting out. It's mind blowing how impressive these tools are. Crossing my fingers the open source community can figure this out.
People just have no idea yet, but Udio songs will start popping up online, people will ask " who is this singer?" and it will go from there.
