It's always this way with AI breakthroughs. The majority of people just think computers are magic and have no concept of what they can or can't do, so when they do something previously thought to be impossible it doesn't seem very remarkable to them. If an app came out that could scan your photo and extract real memories from your childhood most people would be like "Huh, neat..." and go about their day. It's frustrating, and I feel like a madman for having perfectly rational reactions to these earth shattering technological miracles, while everyone around me regards it as a sort of mundane amusement and fails to understand what it is I'm so "worked up" about.

Aenvoker

15 years ago, Will Wright (of Sim City/The Sims fame) faked having conversational AI robots on the streets of Berkeley and Oakland. Everyone was like "Huh, neat..." and went on with their day. [https://www.will-wright.com/stupidfunclub.php](https://www.will-wright.com/stupidfunclub.php)

audionerd1

Exactly! I'll never understand how people whose entire loves revolve around technology, and whose future is shaped by technology, have little to no interest in it.

TheOneWhoDings

I think you're absolutely mistaken, people just don't know about Udio or even Suno for that matter, they don't know it's here already, to the few people that I've showed this it's been an insane experience too, same with ChatGPT, in university a good 4/6 students use it every single day. They don't just go about their day.

audionerd1

Maybe it's because most of the people I interact with are older. Young people seem more likely to be either fascinated or horrified, either of which is a much more appropriate response than indifference.

CouchieWouchie

People, even tech people in the industry, are so abstracted away from how computers actually work that everything is indeed magic at this point. And in their ignorance they may think these developments are not a big deal. But as tech progresses to AGI, humanity at large is about to be hugely humbled.

IversusAI

> humanity at large is about to be hugely humbled. Thank goodness.

Eloy71

Downvote me but it's just that they don't get it. 80% of ppl are, uhm, dim and tunnel visioned.

udiomusic

Always nice to read posts like this one :)

TheSpaceFace

Keep up the good work! Your service empowers creative people who may not be physically able to create music to be able to create music and I think that’s special.

CouchieWouchie

I got in on r/ChatGPT when it was <1K users too. The rest of the world will soon notice. This is going to totally upend the music industry.

4RyteCords

I've been so ingrained in this for years now. I was one of the first beta users of dalle and tried to show everyone how amazing it was and all I got was but the faces look weird. People missed the point. I was writing a text prompt and getting something that resembled what I was asking for. I was one of the first to use midjourney, stable diffusion, chat gpt, suno and now udio and people still don't care. I talk about it so much to my wife that she's sick of hearing about it and the care factor has never peaked. Drives me crazy that people can't acknowledge how amazing the time is that we live in.

CouchieWouchie

I'm with you! There is so much AI-phobia and a willful ignorance within the public at large. Many simply prefer to avert their eyes rather than gaze upon the future. Until there is a robot doing their job and they're sitting at home with an existential crisis, only then will they get it. Really, we need to be preparing for that future NOW, and not waiting for shit to hit the fan. But, we're humanity. Of course the shit will hit the fan.

IversusAI

> I talk about it so much to my wife that she's sick of hearing about it and the care factor has never peaked. Drives me crazy that people can't acknowledge how amazing the time is that we live in. I gave a talk at a conference on AI in Vegas and many people were there without their spouses because "they aren't interested in AI". My husband isn't really either, but he does listen and shares my excitement. It was SUPER fun to be in a room of 600 people who "got it".

4RyteCords

It would be so nice to be around people who got how amazing a time it is to be alive in. Im old enough to remember the early days of the internet, mobile phones and the jump to colour phones and then smart phones. And all of those things will feel small compared to the changes we are going to go through in the coming years

IversusAI

I am in mid fifties, I remember using MUDs in the college computer room. I remember early 80s computers, I am so grateful for what is happening. I now have friends in the AI space and it has made all the difference. We, you and I and others, understand and are SO far ahead of the curve.

4RyteCords

Yeah that's it. Knowing is everything at the moment. I'm mid 30s but I have parents and grandparents who refused to buy into the whole mobile phone idea in the early days and they are lost now. I refuse to let that happen to me

monkeybird69

Truthfully, I don't plan on listening to human music ever again. Why would I when I can make a song sound exactly how I want at my disposal?

notasofyeti

Me, to my grandkids: Back in my day, you had to listen to music that other people made by hand I am obsessed, but so glad it wasn’t available when I was a teenager. Bonding over favorite bands was pretty huge for me and I would hate to see that go away

monkeybird69

Everyone will be their own favorite artist and they can swap songs like trading cards. But I see what you mean... The more open the pathways of communication the more lonely we seem to be. The old concepts of a structured human life are being shattered before our very eyes.

Fhagersson

Feels surrealistic as hell being one of the first to have access to something so groundbreaking before it becomes mainstream. Felt the same with gpt 3.5 in november 2022.

ReXommendation

Before they lobotomized it.

Q8Q

Welcome to the early adopter club.

Remarkable-Funny1570

Definitely a big deal for the whole music industry and beyond, even though most of humanity doesn't care. Just don't try to convince people it's revolutionary: they don't care, and we have to be fine with that.

monkeybird69

I wonder if my Youtube subscribers are getting annoyed by all my new music posts flooding their feed...

Eloy71

then don't spam them, be really picky with your own creations.

Obzzeh

It’s so fun. Last night I used it mid playful argument with my girlfriend to create a 90s hip hop diss track backing up my side of the argument. Haha ❤️

GuitarEC

Oh dang!! LOL. I can't say I'm much better, I've been polishing a 1950s Big Band number with very non-50s sensibilities...

IversusAI

> 90s hip hop diss track backing up my side of the argument. Haha ❤️ LOLOL!!! ❤️️❤️️❤️️

Obzzeh

Here it is 😍 https://www.udio.com/songs/r6CPL2KdeF3q7UX4f4QQZq Very much made with love and joy.

TheSpaceFace

Truth is for it to become “big” it would have to have some meaningful impact on people’s life. Stable diffusion and mid journey for example are great tools but your average Joe doesn’t care much about them, it’s enthusiasts who like it. Chat GPT however can make people’s life easier by helping write emails and letters etc If someone like Spotify or Apple Music worked with udio to add it in their apps it would go viral instantly and be talked about. It’s probably a good thing this isn’t super popular yet or else we’d get a mob of people trying to shut it down similar to mid journey and stable diffusion have had

RubelliteFae

That the greatest thing many people can imagine doing with AI tech is writing & emails and letters is the real issue. It's one-to-one learning. Can use Socratic method. You can get it to come up with potential unconsidered ways of rectifying QM & gravitation. And people still think it can't get hands right. People are still thinking about last year's tech, which really highlights the exponential growth curve vs. human understanding problem.

monkeybird69

Yes, let's keep it secret. lol I like being able to use it without being booted by a billion generations.

Jack_B_84

It's a weird feeling when you realize that you are walking around with a song stuck in your head that was AI generated.

monkeybird69

I have mine on a playlist on youtube and listen to them over and over every single day. If their video generator worked on the site I might listen to them on their site instead, but you can't have everything.

pixxelpusher

I don’t know why but I can’t get the generations I’ve made out of my head for 4 days now! It’s like it’s somehow generating frequencies and musical compositions that are designed to be total ear worms.

PM_ME_YOUR_MUSIC

I’ve been completely blown away by udio, I’ve shared it across to some friends that are music producers and they have the same reaction. We’re in the absolutely beginning of this. Surprised it’s not a paid product yet. I’ll be throwing my wallet at this.

spcp

I recently created a song in just one evening that moved me to tears when I heard its final rendition. The soulfulness and beauty of the piece were striking. I had developed the lyrics earlier with assistance from ChatGPT, and although the song was very personal, experiencing it performed aloud was something else entirely. After sharing it with my partner, the emotional depth of the song brought them to tears as well. It led to a strong reaction—asking me not to share something so stirring again! Edited with ChatGPT and failed to remove the first bit… lol

Cvrator

Well now I want to hear it

spcp

I’m still trying to work up the courage to play it for my son first! (Who the song is for) But after that, maybe I’ll publish it. But, here’s another slightly less personal one I made that sounds like Johnny Cash. [https://www.udio.com/songs/mY8sLLmXnWDNtYEdT7VFif](https://www.udio.com/songs/mY8sLLmXnWDNtYEdT7VFif)

spcp

I’ve had enough time with the song privately, so I just published it. If you’re still interested… [Hey There Son](https://www.udio.com/songs/38C4DHuk9ztH59pbaavPxh)

k-r-a-u-s-f-a-d-r

Some people have “prompt patience” which is a technique of patiently throwing away undesired output until the prompt is refined enough to get something amazing and continue building from there. Those who claim udio is mediocre don’t have prompt patience.

monkeybird69

I definitely agree... 600 generations a month is not enough.

2FastHaste

I don't get it. Everything I listened to from udio was mid. And the sound quality is pretty poor which doesn't help either. It's very likely that it will eventually produces music that resonates with me in the future. But as it stands right now, I don't get why everyone is so enamored with it.

RubelliteFae

Every generation your rolling thematically weighted dice. Maybe you didn't roll enough times or weight them (prompt it) the way it needed to be?

monkeybird69

A lot of the 30 second clips are mid because people let the AI write the lyrics and it isn't really good at writing lyrics that flow with the beat that make any sense. That area of Udio still needs a lot of work, but when you write your own lyrics and can control the flow it sounds much much better. (but takes about 200 generations that you have to sift through to make a song over 3 minutes)

Chancoop

The AI, by default, also sticks to a strict rhyming convention. It's always line 1, line 2 (rhyming with line 1). Line 3, line 4 (rhyming with line 3). ChatGPT does this too if you ask for song lyrics. If you want any lyrics that do it differently, you have to specify that. Like telling it to write "free verse." And even then it will slip up. For whatever reason, the AI is really opposed to writing song lyrics that don't have very simple rhyming.

naastiknibba95

go for instrumental, and use the extend and add intro/outro features

CodyRhody

Give it a year mate and it will be mind blowing. [I’m impressed with this so far](https://youtu.be/VAXM4vMKFaM?si=5_1qZU-p3utL-MU2)

killax11

Because everyone tunes the song to their personal flavor. And the flavor can be more common liked or not. But now we have the possibility.

Dramatic_Strength690

Feel the same way but in a greater scale the world isn’t ready for AI in general. As your social circle about Ai and they will have no clue.

monkeybird69

They will ignore it until it bites them on the ass lol

Dramatic_Strength690

😆

RubelliteFae

The only way I can figure out how to describe it is, it's like discovering a new great artist, but it doesn't make sense that it's me. Like the music is just out there in some realm of ideas and I just happened upon it and pieced together my favorite bits.

allenhuffman

It hasn’t even been public a week yet, has it?

Identity525601

Not everyone is prepared for a tool that can vividly replicate the [Art Deco Era](https://www.udio.com/songs/uW5bdbuphkh4kt6YNS8XqS)

IversusAI

That is snappy. Love it.

drslovak

As much as I consider this an anti-art, it's soooo damn fun, and I can see how it could be a great song-writing tool, as long as you use it for that. It does take away alot of the artistic aspect in music creation, but this kinda stuff is inevitable so I'm all for finding ways of incorporating this stuff. Its pretty amazing to me

Sea_Implement4018

Similar opinion. I am a little spooked by the idea that pretty quick here anyone and everyone will be able to summon up their own soundtrack. Social media is already pretty adept at stuffing people into echo chambers. Might be everything carries on as usual. I don't know how many people will actually try to come up with their own music. Might be plenty of folks that have no interest in doing that and will still support artists. It is pretty clunky right now, but I can see a future where all the data collected about your life ends up being the prompt when you ask Siri (or whatever!) to write you a song. How about coming home from work after getting a promotion at work and being greeted by an anthem when you open the front door? No idea where this road goes...

Straight_Mud8519

It's very, very good but I still keep wishing for more control. I can make amazing tracks with Udio, but they aren't the tracks I'm trying to make.

misterswarvey

Ssshhhh.

nusodumi

make spoken word about why it's so emotional to realize the connection you can have with an AI song creator outputting human-like content that makes you FEEL

CaterpillarBoth9740

When I posted how amazing this was on threads someone commented that suno.ai already has a similar service. I didn’t try making music with suno but when I briefly played a song, it sounded just like udio. So I figured maybe I was just late to the game. Anyone familiar with suno and how they compare with udio?

RubelliteFae

I wasn't a fan of how it needs to be prompted. I'm more familiar with artists than genres.

killax11

Actually in my opinion suno performs much better in consistency, composition and music genres. The voices are much flexible then udios. https://www.reddit.com/r/SunoAI/s/FWSdwnQYd3

Marperorpie

I love it I agree it is the best thing since that. I'm going through putting in my old lyrics and poetry from being a teen in the 90s and forming them into 90s Style songs. It's so trippy. It's like being a living God

monkeybird69

When I was 13 I thought my lyrics were super good... So, yesterday I broke out my old notebook looking for inspiration... and oh my, I was so naive. lol

Marperorpie

My first ones sucked (from when I was 13) but udio & I still managed to make good songs out of them. By the time I was 14 i was much better but still 14 😂

jackoftrashtrades

Brand new. Look at the top likes and compare to YouTube or.. anything that can have top likes. Couple thousand vs 100mil

HadesExeBeast

just wait a month...

Safe_Scratch

Cause it's only 3 weeks old..

monkeybird69

It's weird, everyone I've shown how amazing it is... their eyes like glaze over and they have a very lackluster response. I swear every song I've made has been better than the last and even rival human music. The AI is really bad at making lyrics most of the time and doesn't make a lot of sense, but if you are decent at writing lyrics then it's freakin perfect (after about 200 generations for a 3 minute song)

flexaplext

I'm pretty sure I can generate music with this that I like quicker than I can find new songs I like.

IversusAI

> I'm pretty sure I can generate music with this that I like quicker than I can find new songs I like. This. I have been listening to the same few hundred songs for years because I hate looking for new songs. I added five new songs to my collection from my first night on Udio. I love, love, love it. So fun.

flexaplext

What songs did you add, can you link?

IversusAI

Sure! Here is my listening playlist. Not long but there are some good ones in there. https://www.udio.com/playlists/uHoTy5orshHjPvpTd1ZTTU

flexaplext

Oh. I've not actually seen or heard that 'Earl Grey in C' before. It's weird hearing a different extension to your own sample. They could have definitely got a better opening than that though, but it did a decent job on the 3rd extension (the one immediately after the original one), I really struggled with that one. I was struggling with it so much that as soon as got something that worked alright I just rolled with it, but it randomly made it an outro so the sample was automatically put towards the end. The Earl Grey one has got some nice sounding segments, it sways heavily off theme (as seems to commonly be the case). In my "official" version I stayed on theme a little better, but it's 2 different themes in one so it's like a strange half & half two short movements combined into one. We wouldn't have seen that if it was a proper piece as they would have been made into longer full 1st and 3rd movements with a slower one inbetween. It's funny, I can't really call it an "official" version, even if you make it from your own sample. Because as soon as you release a sample onto the site it's fair game and in the public domain.

IversusAI

I did Earl Grey in C! :-) I hear you on your thoughts, I just did what sounded good to my ear. I am not a musician in the slightest.

monkeybird69

Not to mention there is a veritable sea of songs to choose from that already exist on there.

flexaplext

True. But I'm strangely picky lol. There's only one song on there I've properly liked that's not made by me, the Touch Grass one: [https://www.udio.com/songs/pDvPocBfkeiKtHGjBQ5yr7](https://www.udio.com/songs/pDvPocBfkeiKtHGjBQ5yr7) There's 1 sample I like also and I was trying to extend it but it wasn't recognizing the sample generation as a chorus no matter what I tried. Was rather annoying. Maybe I'll come back with some more experimentation on that one actually.

IversusAI

> https://www.udio.com/songs/pDvPocBfkeiKtHGjBQ5yr7 So funny, I HATE that song. But that is what is so awesome, we can make things that are just for our unique tastes. :-)

t0mkat

That’s because it’s like showing your friends a drawing your kid made. It’s only special to you because you made it (or something you made made it), no one else actually cares. Another comment I’ve read summed it up well that is like telling people about your dreams, they’re only interested to the person that had them.

monkeybird69

but... but, it seemed so real. lol

Schmilsson1

Nah. I'm pretty damn fascinated in what my friends are making and folks at work are swapping links all week in chat.

dommcd3264

Exactly! When OpenAi showed off Sora everyone was freaking out (despite it not being available to the public), but this drops and I barely hear about it. I'm not saying every output is a hit, but some are, which is pretty impressive.

Chancoop

Most people are still stuck in that headspace of "this is techbro garbage. It is simple plagerism, it makes copies and remixes and is incapable of originality. Creatives hate AI, and never enjoy it or want to use it. I feel morally obligated to stand with creatives." You will never get through to them, no matter how well you articulate an explanation. They deny everything. The creative professionals becoming outspoken about their appreciation for AI is helping push back against that narrative, but it's going to be a long road.

pixxelpusher

I’m a creative and I love AI. I’ve always used the latest technology to progress my ideas so think it’s an amazingly powerful tool to utilize in your workflow.

One-Earth9294

This is how I felt a year ago when I saw the kinds of things generative graphic art was putting out. It's mind blowing how impressive these tools are. Crossing my fingers the open source community can figure this out.

TheOneWhoDings

People just have no idea yet, but Udio songs will start popping up online, people will ask " who is this singer?" and it will go from there.

Danker90

Linus on the WAN Show did a full 15 min segment on it including the song about 💩 your pants

adatneu

Because online games I suppose. Also music isn't really a part of culture anymore.
