Volk might be the only fighter in the history of the UFC who is capable of winning a belt up a weight class and still being able to defend the lower weight class. Every other double champ bulked up and wasn’t physically able to defend in their original weight class after winning their 2nd belt.
The real answer is anyone can do it with the right matchup. If adesanya had to fight the real tough people at 205 and they defended the belt more than once then he wouldn’t beat them.
Ufc is slick with it tho they usually get a guy early in his title run to go against a champ champ contender

I still believe Chimaev could do it, as well as Volk and Izzy. Volk is the easy answer because he was already close. Izzy normally wouldn’t but right now that division at 205 is so weak with 2 of the best hurt. So maybe he finds a window. But Chimaev I believe can too. I think he is a bad matchup for Izzy and at 170 he has already proven he can beat a top guy like Burns. I think Chimaev could beat both Izzy and Leon right now. But Colby likely will be champion by end of year and that’s a lot harder for Chimaev with the style.
