Yeah idk why people think he’s serious.
DC himself couldn’t medal in the olympics and he trained his entire life. When have we seen a brazilian wrestling champ?
Also Alex really isn’t built for wrestling, he’s tall and lean vs while most wrestlers are stocky
DC says if Pereira trained exclusively olympic wrestling for 2 years he could become champion.
Makhachev says he would still get soundly beaten by the top guys.
Must be a Dana dick sucker. They probably think Fedor and Might Mouse suck or that Power Slap is the most watched "sport" in the world just cuz Daddy Dana said it
Honestly had the opposite impression. Subtracting the extra body fat and accounting for the 8” difference in reach, his arms probably still have on the order of 50% more muscle volume than Alex’s, a true LHW, and this is him a few years removed from high level training. Insane build. DC was/is a fucking tank of a man
Yeah, the big guy is sitting straight up, and Alex has kinda slid down in his seat. When Alex leans forward, you can see they are close if Alex isn't taller.
Iirc he actually lost a good amount of size the past couple of years. I saw him on a few teams in the octagon over the years. Fuckin strong man competition tier size on that fuckin dude, and like I said Im pretty sure he actually got a bit smaller in the last year or so.
Correct, Plinio Cruz’ last known middleweight fight was in 2012
For anyone wondering what he looked like:

I’m a huge Alex fan. Even I’ll admit, he hasn’t been tested on the ground.
I really wanna see Ankalaev vs Poatan. If he beats him soundly, then there is no denying putting him in the conversation as one of the GOATs of combat sports.
Some people are just built different. I think Alex is built different.
What’s so funny about that to me is that he was asked any FIGHTER he think he’d have a chance at, and he chose a champion. He coulda said CJ Vergara by way of sitting on him but no, he chose a 205 champion.
He doesn't need a finish on the ground to get a win. If his wrestling is way better than Alex's he can hold him down for 5 rounds and get the boring win.
I agree. I just understand why people might think that Alex beating Ankalaev proves more than him beating anyone else in the light heavyweight division. It is a very striking heavy division and Ankalaev seems to be the only grappler there. Even heavyweight which is known for striking has more grapplers at the top of the division with Jon Jones, Curtis Blades and Jailton Almeida.
What was the issue with Walker? He should have not kneed him but doubting his fight IQ based on thwt is a strech. Also in the Jan fight he eventually switch to wrestling starting from round 3 and dominated Jan. Unless he does a Jamal Hill his IQ is high
He also always strikes, wasn’t until Jan destroyed his legs and could’ve gotten a tko that Ankalaev started wrestling. Guys a striker, yes he can wrestle but it’s not his style.
Ankalaev's ground game is overrated. He has zero submission wins and his only loss is a submission. He has good takedowns, clinch work, pressure against the cage, and stuff, but he's primarily a striker. Ankalaev is not a 205 version of Islam or Khabib.
It’s more about the threat of the takedown and the ability to keep you there. I’m not saying he’s an elite level grappler like Khabib. I’m saying he’s the best we got at 205 to test him.
He's pretty much the closest to a grappler for a high ranked fighter at LHW tho 😄 and he almost won the belt with it by losing 2 rounds on the feet to Jan and then laying on top of him for the rest of the fight without doing absolutely nothing, getting him a draw.
Alex really came into the UFC at the perfect time when both MW and LHW were and still are filled to the brim with strikers. The best grappler he has faced is Jan, who isn’t too shabby on the ground himself - we did see what he did to Izzy after all.
Ankalaev insisting to fight in the UAE is a bad look regarding his confidence.
I was (and still am) convinced he is the man to beat Alex at LHW. But he himself doesn't seem to sure.
The thing is , Ankalaev likes to keep on the feet, he did against Walker or Yan ( for a while until he had to take him down) despite them both being very dangerous on the feet ( Walker maybe not) . If he does that against Pereira, he gets slept
I personally do not see anyone currently beating Alex @ LHW. Everyone keeps saying Ank due to his wrestling but Ank has literally 0 submissions on his record.
Ank should have done that from the start instead of the end of the 5th in a title fight. He only began wrestling because his legs were chewed up.
He is the only person to blame with his recent poor performances. Do not even get me started on the (two) Johnny Walker fighters and all the intentional fouls.
Ank waited until his legs had been kicked to death to “wrestle” against Jan at the end of the 5th round. Negative IQ fight for Ank. He handled the draw result even worse and then he said wanted Alex in Abu Dhabi 8 months later.
Ank still ain’t the one, lol.
Nowhere in my comment did I talk about Ankalaev, only about your factual misunderstanding of the role of wrestling in an MMA fight. Your attempt to divert to Ankalaev's skills clearly shows that you're aware that you were wrong, as you're again in this comment.
If Ankalaev only started to wrestle "at the end of the 5th round", how did he rack up 4 minutes and 50 seconds of control time in the 5th and over 11 minutes overall? Why did Jan land a total of 0 significant strikes in the 5th? Ankalaev shot in the first seconds of that round and took Jan down, you're either lying, blind or need to rewatch the fight.
Why the quotation marks when you bring up Magomed's wrestling? In the championship rounds Blachowicz landed a total of a single significant strike, while Magomed racked up 28. The total strikes tell a similar story, 24 to 109 for Ankalaev. 9 minutes and 22 seconds of control time. You know what actually happened at the end of the 5th? Jan almost got finished with ground and pound. The Pereira callout also had nothing to do with the Blachowicz draw, a fight 23/25 media members scored for Ankalaev.
decisionbot Ankalaev vs Blachowicz
Decisionbot doesn't seem to work on r/ufc:

He will not convince these guys against all the hate. Ankalaev was robbed big time there. Even Jan acknowledged that Ankalaev won the fight. Twice actually. But since people are irrational we are getting the fight vs a guy who got KOed by pereira 7 month ago.
Actually, control time only comes into consideration when striking and grappling are considered completely even.
"Judges look at the immediate and cumulative impact of legal blows, submission attempts, and takedowns.
Control time comes into play only when effective striking and grappling are equal between the fighters. In such cases, judges consider control time to determine who had the advantage in terms of controlling the fight’s tempo, location, and position12.
So, while control time is important, it’s secondary to the more impactful actions in a fight."
That's from the unified rules.
Everyone says that but Ank never fk wrestles he insist on standing up against guy he could smother, he will do the same against Pereira given the chance just to get ko'd
This is true, especially looking at the Blachowicz fight.
As soon as he put his foot on the gas and went all out on wrestling pressure, he handily took round 4 and DOMINATED round 5. Before that he tried to strike with Jan for no reason, did fairly well but got his legs almost smashed in.
It seemed so unnecessary. Why take the risk?
Yes an actual Olympic wrestling champion is delusional when it comes to the requirements of that achievement. He totally wasn't being sarcastic with his friend Islam who takes everything too seriously.
Ankalaev is the one not fighting Alex. Alex even agreed to fight him. I hope Alex never fights him in Abu Dhabi. If he wants the belt fight outside Abu Dhabi or keep fighting contenders.
I don’t speak Portuguese so I have no idea myself, but the vibe I get off Reddit is that he’s a bit more of a shit talker in Portuguese but his translations are what make him sound uncontroversial and straightforward. Could be completely wrong though idk
nah I don't think so. He does miss some cool stuff that alex says every now and then but the tone is pretty much the same. that's my two cents anyway
source: am brazilian
He is legitmately a skilled fighter, but his fans that think he was robbed against Jan or that he is currently getting robbed of a title shot, or that Pereira is ducking him, are delusional. Pereira is the scariest fighter in the UFC and he's fighting actually dangerous fighters. Lol some fans think a fighter like that is scared of a wrestler. Nobody is scared of wrestlers. Least intimidating style. Pereira clearly stated that he's interested in that fight. It's Ankalaev who is preventing that fight from happening. Not Pereira.
A thing people need to understand is most fighters aren't scared of any human being. They may be hesitant or ducking cause of monetary reasons or shi but no one in UFC is scared to fight anyone in the UFC, every single one of them is a killer.
DC out here instigating drama for views, lol. It's totally possible that Pereira ends up stuffing Ankalaev's takedown attempts and gets back up quickly even after getting taken down. The bit about the Olympics is straight rage-bait.
Dumbest fake drama. Obviously none of them believe this.
What’s next, claiming he could take gold in olympic taekwando? Or i know, how about fencing? That’s sort of like fighting, right?
DC the type to train somebody to wrestle as soon as he takes a Dagestani down once.
DC: you see I beat you.
Dagestani: no you not beat me
DC: he took you down, I trained him, I beat you.
I love Alex but Islam is 100% spot on here. Poatan can probably get to a Jedrzejczyk level of having exceptional takedown defence for MMA but in a straight up wrestling match there is no way he's getting to the elite level at his age. Dude got controlled by Izzy! DC is a menace trolling like that 😆
DC is such a rat. Sneaks out a couple of comments from Islam while deep-tongue-licks Poatans ass then quickly shows Poatan, "uh uh look look Poatan, look what I think about your ass"
lol why would I travel overseas to tell a stranger that he did a rat move? BTW do you condone rat moves since you ask me to tell it to his face?
DC is a famous person and I have every right to criticise him when he does a rat move. He can probably wrestle me yes but why would you want me to fight him with your indication? Are you a little DC fan boy that doesn't like when anyone talks back to your idol? Are you playing the DC vs. Jones game? Cause I'm not, I just call out rat moves when I see one.
He’d probably shut it down without even thinking about getting physical. Everything I’ve ever seen of DC getting heated with someone he just talks them down or gives a stern warning to them that he doesn’t like what they’re doing.
Like Phil Hawes when he started mouthing off to him in the ring post-fight. He talked him down like a disappointed dad.
I hope Alex just flat out refuses to fight him in the UAE or wherever Ankalaev wants the fight, after how they gifted Ankalaev a NC after a clear foul that should have been a DQ. Let Ankalaev fight in the states.
Alright this is getting out of hand. If this was any other fighter, even one with MORE experience and talent in wrestling than Alex you guys would crucify him for being delusional.
"you're taking everything I worked for mf" -- Ariel Halwani to DC.
Ariel should be proud DC learned from him so well
Chump acting like Ariel did it first 🥴
I am confused by the clip. Is DC actually claiming Pereira would be able to beat those guys in a freestyle wrestling match?
Obviously he's trolling just to get under islams skin
Yeah idk why people think he’s serious. DC himself couldn’t medal in the olympics and he trained his entire life. When have we seen a brazilian wrestling champ? Also Alex really isn’t built for wrestling, he’s tall and lean vs while most wrestlers are stocky
Yes, with 2 years of focused wrestling training
Yes, he thinks Pereira can with 2 years of focused wrestling training
DC says if Pereira trained exclusively olympic wrestling for 2 years he could become champion. Makhachev says he would still get soundly beaten by the top guys.
Ariel is a scab
You must work for dana
Must be a Dana dick sucker. They probably think Fedor and Might Mouse suck or that Power Slap is the most watched "sport" in the world just cuz Daddy Dana said it
Now we need a clip of Islam reacting to the clip of Alex reacting to the clip of Islam
Then Alex reacting to Islam reacting to Alex reacting to Islam
DC looking so small compared to these guys is crazy
Honestly had the opposite impression. Subtracting the extra body fat and accounting for the 8” difference in reach, his arms probably still have on the order of 50% more muscle volume than Alex’s, a true LHW, and this is him a few years removed from high level training. Insane build. DC was/is a fucking tank of a man
The guy has massive muscles. If he ate some vegetables he'd look jacked af
Vegetables over fried chicken and cake??? Gtfo
I don’t know why this cracked me the fuck up 😂
Don't forget Alex is cutting weight tho, he will look smaller
He was a little bowling ball just recking some of the biggest fighters in the world
I had the exact opposite observation. Poatan looks like a schoolboy next to DC.
I'd bang em both tbh
Did you use to fuck guys like them in high school?
No, he doesn't. He's looks even bigger than Alex
Y'all over here arguing about the 2nd and 3rd biggest guys in the video 😂
The things that matter lmao
Sure in frame but DC has more muscle mass than Alex and is far stronger.
Who tf is that giant next to pereira? Nobody going to mention the size? Alex is a huge guy and this guy makes him look like a little kid.
Its plínio, his coach/translator. He appears in most of poatan's vids like this.
Fun fact: Plinio fought, and lost to, Chris Daukaus
And Rafael Natal.
The video of him in a Lamborghini in Australia is hilarious Genuinely don’t know how he fit in it
There was a vlog where they were rolling around in those huge Benz square vehicles, dude literally looks like he doesn't fit.
G wagons?
Why does he look like he quite literally twice the size of everyone in this clip? Forced perspective?
He's a former heavyweight fighter who i doubt has been sticking to any sort of fitness plan since his retirement, so i'm guessing he's just thay big
He also used to be super in shape when he was a fighter.
That’s Thor from God of War Ragnarok
Plinio cruz. He was a fighter. https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/6834-plinio-cruz Yes that’s really him in the pic lol
Hold the fuck up lmao no shot
Can tell he was a naturally fat guy and fighting was the only thing keeping him in shape. Once he lost focus and started losing he just let it all go
Hahahahaha nooo fucking way?? I believe it man, the amount of Pro soccer player looking like shit today is incredible.
His coach/translator. Met him in-person he’s shorter than Alex, and overall a really nice guy
He is a bit shorter than alex I believe, just the angle and the way everyone is seated makes it seem different
Nah brother, look at the size of his forearms. Dude is wider and thicker than DC no diddy
No diddy 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kind of odd when people say size and immediately think only of height. A 5 '10 215lb dude is "bigger" to me than a 6'1 185lb person.
Yeah, the big guy is sitting straight up, and Alex has kinda slid down in his seat. When Alex leans forward, you can see they are close if Alex isn't taller.
Former Cage Fury heavyweight champ, Plinio Cruz
Iirc he actually lost a good amount of size the past couple of years. I saw him on a few teams in the octagon over the years. Fuckin strong man competition tier size on that fuckin dude, and like I said Im pretty sure he actually got a bit smaller in the last year or so.
Dude used to fight at middleweight lol (if I’m remembering correctly, could be different weight or member of Alex’s crew tho)
He's not making mw at any point in the last 5-10 years min.
Correct, Plinio Cruz’ last known middleweight fight was in 2012 For anyone wondering what he looked like: https://preview.redd.it/uucdf6i7m59d1.jpeg?width=286&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=544afd05deb45daf8e171eaffc31f0fa1dc645c6
bro looks like him and DC did a fusion dance
Bro’s going through his own Majin Buu transformation.
He might be to heavy for HW.
That dude is a monster
That's Daniel Cormier.
it's his translator, he is big but alex is way taller. you can see it in the latest sparring video on his youtube.
Lore accurate Thor and Baldur

Average r/ufc commentator
Ankalaev has 0 submissions on his UFC career…
I'm pretty sure people see others talking about his grappling and assume Ank is submitting people every other fight lol
It feels like 98% of people mentioning Ank as the one to potentially beat Alex, all know nothing of Ank’s ground game, lol.
He doesn't need a finish on the ground to get a win. If his wrestling is way better than Alex's he can hold him down for 5 rounds and get the boring win.
Technically true. I just do not see it happening. Ank’s recent performances between Jan and Johnny (2x) have been questionable in terms of fight IQ.
Fair enough. Glad we could agree on a logical and reasonable topic, unlike 90% of this Sub, lol.

Jesus dude
The hell?… I don’t hate Ank at all. I don’t even know the guy.
What was the issue with Walker? He should have not kneed him but doubting his fight IQ based on thwt is a strech. Also in the Jan fight he eventually switch to wrestling starting from round 3 and dominated Jan. Unless he does a Jamal Hill his IQ is high
I think it's reverse psychology. They know it doesn't really prove he's some ground god, but building Ank up makes it seem like Poatan is.
I would not give Redditors in the u/UFC subreddit that kind of mental praise.
He wrestles more then anyone Alex has ever fought since his debut
He also always strikes, wasn’t until Jan destroyed his legs and could’ve gotten a tko that Ankalaev started wrestling. Guys a striker, yes he can wrestle but it’s not his style.
Having a beard adds at least 3 professional submissions to your score. It’s normal knowledge brotha.
![gif](giphy|IvqfGNIgN6OwdkCNuG)
And last second tap
Yeah but don't forget about control, Ank can control him on the ground Ank is a beast though, he's definitely throwing hands with Alex.
Ankalaev's ground game is overrated. He has zero submission wins and his only loss is a submission. He has good takedowns, clinch work, pressure against the cage, and stuff, but he's primarily a striker. Ankalaev is not a 205 version of Islam or Khabib.
Grappling wise, agreed. But his wrestling is good, but only when he chooses to actually use it.
He has solid Daegestani wrestling, but he doesn't have elite fight IQ.
It’s more about the threat of the takedown and the ability to keep you there. I’m not saying he’s an elite level grappler like Khabib. I’m saying he’s the best we got at 205 to test him.
Eh. Jan tested his grappling. And while Jan is no ankaliev, Alex did preform significantly better in grappling against Jan than izzy did.
You think Ankalaev is the name Poatan needs to be in the goat talk??? Crazy
It’s not about the name. It’s about the grappling. He hasn’t faced one grappler.
Ankalaev is no grappler.
He's pretty much the closest to a grappler for a high ranked fighter at LHW tho 😄 and he almost won the belt with it by losing 2 rounds on the feet to Jan and then laying on top of him for the rest of the fight without doing absolutely nothing, getting him a draw.
He needs to show wrestling defense to be considered is what I think they're saying
yeah pretty clear and pretty obvious they were saying he needs to be tested vs a wrestler to be considered.
Fair. I think he should qualify for the HOF already atleast.
We are so far past that conversation haha
He’s HOF for sure but GOAT of combat sports is a high bar, even just to be in the conversation
Beating Ankalaev definitely doesn’t put him in the convo with the GOATs of combat sports. It will take several more wins for that.
Alex really came into the UFC at the perfect time when both MW and LHW were and still are filled to the brim with strikers. The best grappler he has faced is Jan, who isn’t too shabby on the ground himself - we did see what he did to Izzy after all.
Ahhh I dunno. Izzy knocked him out and had him very close to knocked out in their first fight. He’s not invincible
Ankalaev will wipe the floor with Alex
Ankalaev insisting to fight in the UAE is a bad look regarding his confidence. I was (and still am) convinced he is the man to beat Alex at LHW. But he himself doesn't seem to sure.

I personally do not see anyone currently beating Alex @ LHW. Everyone keeps saying Ank due to his wrestling but Ank has literally 0 submissions on his record.
As if submissions are the only thing that matter in the ground lol
Like how he wrestled and TKO’d Jan via GnP? Oh wait…
Finishes aren’t the only thing that matter in mixed martial arts. He literally got a 10-8 round in round 5 vs Jan, horrible example.
Ank should have done that from the start instead of the end of the 5th in a title fight. He only began wrestling because his legs were chewed up. He is the only person to blame with his recent poor performances. Do not even get me started on the (two) Johnny Walker fighters and all the intentional fouls.
Wrestling's more than just a setup for submissions. Control time in of itself can win a fight and you can also tko people on the ground.
The threat of takedown also makes strikers gun shy, not letting them perform at their fullest potential
Ank waited until his legs had been kicked to death to “wrestle” against Jan at the end of the 5th round. Negative IQ fight for Ank. He handled the draw result even worse and then he said wanted Alex in Abu Dhabi 8 months later. Ank still ain’t the one, lol.

Dc was delusional in that interview he said let potan train 2 years and he would be an Olympic wrestling champion that was stupid by him
Probably messing with Islam. Man loves interviewing him he's always laughing
Anyone interviewing islam knows to set him up to get the line "brother who say this"
The most genuine thing DC does in his UFC interviews is troll the fuck out of his Dagestani bros.
Most dagestanis are unintentionally hilarious, specially islam
i am not a big fan of them dagestani boys but come on, islam is intentionally funny and lot of times
Keep him 2 year and forget
I mean yeah maybe, he just seems so serious on his responses, it's so funny. If he's doing it purposefully that's just genius
Daniel of all people knows what it takes to become an Olympian at his weight , he’s definitely just messing.
Yes an actual Olympic wrestling champion is delusional when it comes to the requirements of that achievement. He totally wasn't being sarcastic with his friend Islam who takes everything too seriously.
He was clearly baiting him man, not everything is serious
I'm pretty sure an Olympic level wrestler knows better than some r/ufc Redditors on what it takes so I'll trust his judgement on this one
Pretty sure DC was just fucking with Islam and didn’t actually believe it himself
Yeah I know I was just joking around too
Islam was right tho ain’t no way Alex would be an Olympic gold medalist in wrestling within 2 years. DC was talking straight nonsense 😂😂
Ankalaev is the one not fighting Alex. Alex even agreed to fight him. I hope Alex never fights him in Abu Dhabi. If he wants the belt fight outside Abu Dhabi or keep fighting contenders.
Right! Even if it’s a great fight and Alex loses then we have another fighter with a belt who won’t be able to be active.
Please Lord get a proper translator for Poatan. This fat guy seems like a good dude and friend of Poatan, but his translating is trash

Mother of cherry picked stats. Man hasn't lost a fight since 2018 and actually was pretty active untill 2023.

I will laugh if Poatan defends against Anakalev's wrestling and KOs him.

DC is the man. Also can make a serious bitch face. Sad to see.
Danial is a good dude. And he has mich respect for Alex.. like Alex for him.. Daniel is listening
Now we know why DC kept a straight face, so he can be unbiased while he’s instigating.
DC the type to train somebody to wrestle as soon as he takes a Dagestani down once. DC: you see I beat you. Dagestani: no you not beat me DC: he took you down, I trained him, I beat you.
DC trying to start beef just so he can have clicks on his youtube
Lol love DC stirring the pot since he’s so close with these dudes. Haters livid when Ariel does this though.

CRRRAAAZZZYYY TALK!¡
DC is a menace

I hope Alex just flat out refuses to fight him in the UAE or wherever Ankalaev wants the fight, after how they gifted Ankalaev a NC after a clear foul that should have been a DQ. Let Ankalaev fight in the states.
Cool so Ankalaev beats Poatan, then what?
'Youve got to accept that im different' is a cold line by you.
"I'm built different."-🗿 Put that on a shirt Alex
Alright this is getting out of hand. If this was any other fighter, even one with MORE experience and talent in wrestling than Alex you guys would crucify him for being delusional.
I know Magomed’s a good grappler, but people constantly seem to forget that he prefers to stand and bang even when it doesn’t really make sense.
I like how Alex has his own Paul Heyman guy.
islam and khabib are too honest for the sport
Gotta love pereira man

Two dumbasses and plinio
Cormier is a fat fuck trying to instigate petty shit out of nothing. He should not be one of the voices of the sport
Alex’s translator is fat AF he’s make DC seem in shape 😂.
