[Mail on Sunday](https://twitter.com/MoS_Politics/status/1540826214151163911) showing everyone what happens if you speak out about Boris & his plans.
Not sure giving Tory Royalists an existential crisis is a strong plan, but we'll see some *unexpected* republicans chirping up this week.
I feel like this goes back to the whole thing where a lot of people love the Queen but probably won't be too keen on the monarchy without her. Charles doesn't seem to have that many fans.
If it's true that six Tory MPS are contemplating defecting to Labour according to that Times article, that imo would be symbolically beneficial for Starmer as Wakeford's defection was.
I had no idea Glastonbury was on at all tbh.
Think it's important to share though, new Tory defections to Labour would be an absolute coup for Starmer.
swear to god axl rose has got the *worst* voice to *ever* front a band. he always sounds like a pubsinger trying to strain out acdc's Brian Johnson without having the vocal range
Even Dave Grohls flights were cancelled lmao
Great so far and the fact Paul has shared and kept Beatles music alive for so many generations is brilliant.
Ahhh honestly George is the only one whose my opinion lowered a bit after watching. Comes across abit immature and petty and not as cool as people like to say.
George is underrated ngl. Did you watch the Get Back documentary on Disney+ feel like it really shows George realising his own talent after being under the other two for so long.
The last fifteen minutes of Paul's set have been great. The ukulele Something cover was great, though not quite as special as the performance at the Concert for George
Since this seems to instead be a glastothread, I guess I'll join in, I'm waiting for Mitski to appear on the iplayer by listening to Girl in Red which is pretty good despite seeming a bit under-confident / nervous / terrified.
Worth a watch if you like to hear new music, there are a handful of good songs.
Much as I love Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain I think it's a bit shitty to have them top of the bill on what used to be called the *new bands tent*. At least the rest of the weekend was a bit better in that regard.
I've heard some of her stuff, so I'll give it a go.
I'm with you on Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain. Especially when you remember it was renamed the John Peel stage because of his role in breaking new music. I'd also add Phoebe Bridger to your list
Yes! It's very overlooked but has some of my favourite Beatles moments. You Never Give Me Your Money is a cracking song in its own right, the transition from Polythene Pam to Bathroom Window is wonderful, and the reprise of the YNGMYM melody at the end of Golden Slumbers is haunting.
Gotta respect Paul doing the wife-beating verse of Getting Better.
In all seriousness, as a moderate post-Beatles-Paul-enjoyer, I'm enjoying this set very much. He's such a precious bloke.
E: 1985 is a Bangor
Listened to Band On The Run properly for the first time a few months back. 1985 is great, the album recording is so rich and dense. Jet and Band On The Run itself are my two other favourites from that album.
I can only think Paul has sympathy for men whose lives have been dragged through the press in court cases with troublesome ex-wives.
(not casting judgement in either case. Admit that I'm not informed with the Mills-McCartney divorce nor the Depp-Heard case)
> When the first motorway services were being designed, the emphasis was on the motoring side of things. Operators were expected to sell fuel, repair broken vehicles and operate a recovery service - the food and toilets were almost a mere a bit on the side. Those 'services' that were available for your vehicle are the reason that today we tend to call these places "service areas", "service stations" or just "services" as opposed to "rest stops" in other areas of the world.
> In addition, the government were very concerned about a fuel monopoly, **so they required at least four brands of fuel to be made available - and those brands had to be agreed in writing and each sourced separately.** That suggestion dated back to an investigation by the Monopolies and Restrictive Practices Commission into so-called 'solus' petrol stations which took place shortly before the first motorways opened. They published a report in 1965, when there were a handful of motorway services open, which remarked that the Ministry of Transport needed to ensure that budget fuel brands aren't pushed out of motorway sites.
> **However, the motoring industry changed fast at this time, and the requirement to sell four brands of fuel was informally reduced to two brands in 1973, and then this and other regulations were removed all together in 1979.**
> There are no specific regulations attached to petrol stations at service areas. Operators are "encouraged" to provide free air and water, and to cater for a variety of fuels and vehicle types, but no more detail is provided.

>NEW The Prime Minister intends to remain in power until the "mid 2030s" - i.e. serve a third term.
>Johnson made the remarks after being quizzed by reporters in Kigali, Rwanda.
>When Tony Blair announced the same intention, it led to the 'curry house plot'...
Yeah... Good luck with that Boris
Does boris have some sort of inside line to Durham Police or something?
I could see him calling an election immediately after a resignation by Starmer, but not otherwise.
I feel like Johnson's comments today are him almost goading people to do something about him, knowing damn well nobody has the power to following the VONC.
The 1922 committee have made it abundantly clear that they can change the rules in an afternoon. If this is him fucking around, he might be about to find out
Yeah it sounds a little quiet. I think it's partially just that his voice isn't that strong but they could boost it a little bit. Gets a bit lost especially amongst the brass
Very strong political opinion:
When you’re playing a stage like glasto, there should be NO ‘new stuff’. Get out on stage, play your top bangers. Looking at you, Paul. Play Jet.
Joking aside I think he's blown it, this could've gone down as one of the absolute greatest headline sets, banger after banger. It's still going to be a good set, but it could've been so much greater.
I agree, it's not a regular gig, play the hits.
George Michael played a new song at the opening (or maybe closing?) ceremony of the Olympics. Nobody knew it. Baffling.
In his defence he did play a song everyone knew first. But why the organisers let him sing his new single is beyond me.
It was the closing ceremony and it shows how shit the opening ceremony would have been had Danny Boyle not done it.
Politics because a Tory MP said some bullshit about it being too woke
Also politics because right wing anti-vax folks genuinely believe the opening ceremony was some kind of satanic ritual, full of hints about the forthcoming covid pandemic. 🤷♂️
One of the daily Telegraph headlines in the email link today was
"this is the real reason noone wants to work" link ironically didnt work.
Here it is
https://web.archive.org/web/20220625215121/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/06/23/dismal-truth-behind-why-many-brits-dont-want-work/?WT.mc_id=e_DM1568758&WT.tsrc=email&etype=Loy_Dig_Acq_Sat_21Dto1M&utmsource=email
Its actually not as bad as the introduction suggests.
nobody wants to be the first as that would atracts alot of unwanted attention as the first to do so, i think we may stay at 199.9 for a bit longer than anticipated just cuase of that untill they just cant afford to sell it for that cheap

> NEW: Despite his woes at home, Boris Johnson said he is “thinking actively” beyond the next election to a *third* term in office - that would last until the “mid-2030s”.
Breaking news: narcissist is narcissitic.
Does anybody think at this point he won't try to change term lengths? We've seen Tory MPs are spineless scum. We've seen he will never resign. He's apparently now on record saying his next term will last 10 years.
All it needs is a simple majority vote in parliament to make Johnson our eternal emperor
I assume this return to the thousand-year reign of Boris is mostly about the two-fingered salute to the rebels, because I'm struggling otherwise with the idea that Boris has plans of his own past next Thursday.
Yup. Was looking forward to tuning into some live Glasto until I remembered it was McCartney, then I noped out. I just don't get the hype. He's shite, and the Beatles werent as great as they're made out to be.
I watch Jessie Ware instead. She was great.
I was forced to sing When I'm 64 at primary school, since then I just think The Beatles made jingles for children.
Their catalogue is just chock full of pop shite. I've always held the opinion that they've got a lot to answer for in regards to their influence on the domination of pop over all other genres purely on the basis that catchy tunes make a shit ton of money, not because it's good music.
The BBC typically have a blanket license to play any song they want, hence why so much music has to be changed when shows air on Dave, or around the world.
Try watching older episodes of Top Gear on Dave and they've all been butchered with god awful music library drivel. It really detracts from some of their pre-recorded films.
It's common for record companies to not want the whole of a headline set to go out in case they want to put it out themselves at a later date commercially or if the artist is currently on tour they don't want to be showing the whole show, so they'll hold bits of it back from broadcast.
He's notorious for dropping the C bomb at a moment's notice.
In all seriousness though I think a delay is standard for live events but the BBC are particularly twitchy about political statements made by the artists.
they were fine with the stormzy thing a few years ago and billie eilish abortion thing last night tbf. don't think they can really not show glasto without any political stunts happening, they'd get hounded by the press and public imho. all the iplayer shows have been pretty much live to the minute too considering the amount of technical hitches and promptness when the streams are working, so can't see them holding everything back that much.
Ah fair enough. Tbh I only started watching around 9:30 tonight. I saw some comments that political stuff had been cut out but that was likely from the highlights show where they're pushed for time.
Some bantering from the Sunday Express
https://twitter.com/channel_tsc/status/1540804335218466817?s=20&t=QS0ex9kD-0OaLe4oFfgupA
Darn those lefty lurvie unions
I'm not sure Paul McCartney saying "we've got some new songs for you" is not giving the people what they want
Politics because this Government isn't giving the people what they want, which is PS5s
The Tories new line of some how blaming tatical voting for their losses are exactly how out of touch they are with their own voters. Tactical voting has been happening for a long time with limited success.
The truth is Tories are abandoning their party.
We increased our festival lifespan by only going to small festivals where you can see all the stages from each other, but the problem with going to small festivals is they tend to struggle with staying in business and my favourite was finished by COVID. Now I hardly have the stamina to stay up and watch on TV let alone slog round a big site like Glasto or Reading.
One of my only regrets is not going to many when I was younger, as in more than one. Dont know why really just wrong time and place I guess. Would certainly do it in a van or something now, and just stand at the back getting munted.
Oddly, that was the last Reading I went to also. I felt too old for the first time, and that was it for me.
And that's OK, because ever since the line-ups have been total wank.
I was at Leeds that year and can mainly remember it raining so hard during Muse on the Sunday that we stood round a giant mound of burning camp chairs to stay warm. The crowd kept shifting with the wind to avoid the toxic smoke plume.
Watching Glastonbury; are there any songs better for 200k sunburnt drunk people on a summer evening to belt out than Oasis songs?
Politics because his intro to Half the World Away being dedicated to the real Royle family
> badarse
This looks so weird for some reason. This is one very rare time where it sounds better with the American version, "badass". Because of the assonance (badum-*tss*).
[He's there, it seems](https://twitter.com/Ed_Miliband/status/1540649782045286400?s=20&t=epT_SvioNU78PXK1Zj2HaA). Maybe it's him holding the flag. I'd adore him if so.
How can it be right that the BBC are censoring some of the acts that they are showing at Glastonbury and not even at least making the viewer aware that this has taken place.
As an example the Olivia Rodrigo set completely cut her statement about what is going on in the US and her song with Lilly Allen.
No mention was made on this on screen, it was simply edited out.
This megathread has ended.

The only way that would have been better would have been for it to be on a general election night when the spicy results start coming in at 1am
Having a jam sesh, damn this is cool
Dave Grohl *and* Bruce Springsteen, Paul? That's insane.
If he's gonna do this properly he should really end with Her Majesty
Now THAT's how you finish a set.
He saw Billie Eilish and chose violence.
Golden Slumbers/medley is still a banger
I still think Prue Leith looks better for her age at 82
Paul McCartney's car wouldn't break down at the Jubilee
Paul McCartney is 80. Just ridiculous. I assume he is just a husk and this performance is mostly nanobots and magic
If it's true that six Tory MPS are contemplating defecting to Labour according to that Times article, that imo would be symbolically beneficial for Starmer as Wakeford's defection was.
What's this got to do with Glastonbury?
I had no idea Glastonbury was on at all tbh. Think it's important to share though, new Tory defections to Labour would be an absolute coup for Starmer.
Yay more, though we seem to have lost Paul McCartney's vocals
This set is longer than Boris Johnson's third term in office
Live and Let Die wasn't as good as the last time he played it at Glastonbury (Politics cuz Boris licks my feet)
Aww was hoping he'd end with The End
There you go
Yep, amazing ending
He played a lot of 'new' songs but the last hour was just legendary. Respect.
Well worth staying up for this - I know it's said far too much but the fella is a genuine living legend. Jealous of my mates who are there in person.
Paul McCartney
Only Macca can put a Reggae bridge in a heavy rock song and make it work. I fucking love that guy.
I'm fairly sure Paul McCartney's stage visuals just showed the Houses of Parliament blowing up, stunning
No Axl Rose cameo for Live and Let Die?Shame.
swear to god axl rose has got the *worst* voice to *ever* front a band. he always sounds like a pubsinger trying to strain out acdc's Brian Johnson without having the vocal range
A shame there's no more surprises. I'd have loved if Ringo had wandered out. Peace and Love! Peace and Love!
I was holding out for Ringo the whole night. Would have been sensational. Still, what a set, with excellent guests.
One of my friends, a huge Springsteen fan, literally just switched over to BBC1 as McCartney introduced him
This Macca set has gone from decent to epic, but it woulda been better had it been epic from the start!
Has he played Wonderful Christmastime yet?
Do the Frog Chorus.
Give Ireland Back To The Irish for the encore
The fuck? Not complaining, but the fuck?
Bruce Springsteen? Where the fuck did that come from?
Was spoilered on radio one earlier. They both look ridiculously well for their age.
Bruce's shows regularly last for 4 hours and above, he's bloody incredible
And him and McCartney got shut down by the noise people in Hyde Park one time. Incredible.
I'm convinced The Boss has a portrait in his loft that is growing older
It's Sir Paul. He can casually mention Peter Jackson making a video for him and summon Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen because why the fuck not
Who’s gonna turn down Paul McCartney?
Even Dave Grohls flights were cancelled lmao Great so far and the fact Paul has shared and kept Beatles music alive for so many generations is brilliant.
Who’s UKpol’s favourite? Paul or John? Genuinely curious.
After watching Get Back it's hard not to have Paul as your favourite
True but as I mentioned elsewhere it paints George quite well too!
Ahhh honestly George is the only one whose my opinion lowered a bit after watching. Comes across abit immature and petty and not as cool as people like to say.
George
Honestly? George
George is underrated ngl. Did you watch the Get Back documentary on Disney+ feel like it really shows George realising his own talent after being under the other two for so long.
Haven't watched yet, but it's definitely on my list
Oh goodness. Watch it.
I'm a Paul man. Musically Paul, lyrically maybe John, but as a whole person, Paul.
This is where I sit.
Paul. John's a legend, but I think Paul's songwriting output is uniquely special.
"She was just 17, You know what I mean" Grohl's like, "You can have that line Paul"
The last fifteen minutes of Paul's set have been great. The ukulele Something cover was great, though not quite as special as the performance at the Concert for George
I loved the transition from just the ukulele to the full band
Yes!! Well worth watching it from the Concert from George if you haven't already (whole thing is class tbh)
[удалено]
With the way Dorries always sways from side to side like a drunken aunt in Flares getting a cock in her mouth must be like trying to thread a needle
🤢
If you want a picture of the future imagine Johnson and Nadine eating each other out forever.
What the... I don't believe it, I *cannot* believe it. Is there video?
Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the absolute low point of British politics
never call the bottom in a tory bear market
Some say Paul McCartney is planning a third term.
Since this seems to instead be a glastothread, I guess I'll join in, I'm waiting for Mitski to appear on the iplayer by listening to Girl in Red which is pretty good despite seeming a bit under-confident / nervous / terrified.
I watched the Holly Humberstone set earlier and she was terrified. Is the Girl in Red set worth watching?
Worth a watch if you like to hear new music, there are a handful of good songs. Much as I love Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain I think it's a bit shitty to have them top of the bill on what used to be called the *new bands tent*. At least the rest of the weekend was a bit better in that regard.
I've heard some of her stuff, so I'll give it a go. I'm with you on Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain. Especially when you remember it was renamed the John Peel stage because of his role in breaking new music. I'd also add Phoebe Bridger to your list
Sure, why not just casually get Dave Grohl up on stage with you?
I still can't believe Maxwell's Silver Hammer was actually released What a fucking dreadful song
Paul McCartney can do what he wants
Abbey Road medley is criminally underrated.
The solos on The End are a beautiful way to End the Beatles.
The one and only Beatles drum solo, too.
This is the only time of year that I regret not having a TV license, would be quite up for some glasto coverage rn.
My friend. Break the law
Nah, pay for it
The 'rents pay now. I'll pay in the future
Macca is always and everywhere a political phenomenon.
He's 80, clearly many were wandering the same thing as google prediction nailed it early
It's absolutely criminal of Michael and Emily Eavis to keep a pensioner up this late working
Just bought a striking RMT member a shot of baby guinness. That's my act of solidarity done for the day!
Baby Guinness? Ya can't give booze t' baby!
Very delusional day from the PM. Being away from home doesn’t suit him.
You could hear his voice cracking during that one
As per last night, Neutral Milk Hotel should have headlined Glasto when they were at their peak
Shit totally missed this! Did they headline a stage?!
Oh, merely shitposting. Don't think they ever did...
Don't know if Jeff would have been able to cope with that
This is all very flat for Saturday night
Johnson's comments are very good tbh. For Labour. Realistically the best chance of the Tories being booted out is with Johnson as leader.
Gotta respect Paul doing the wife-beating verse of Getting Better. In all seriousness, as a moderate post-Beatles-Paul-enjoyer, I'm enjoying this set very much. He's such a precious bloke. E: 1985 is a Bangor

And then follow it up with a giant video of Johnny Depp lol
Depp was also in a music video of his he released about a decade ago
Oh damn did I miss the Depp video? Such a weird choice
I can only think Paul has sympathy for men whose lives have been dragged through the press in court cases with troublesome ex-wives. (not casting judgement in either case. Admit that I'm not informed with the Mills-McCartney divorce nor the Depp-Heard case)

I only know this song because it's used for that Postcode Lottery advert
His banter is awful
Aww it's alright. It's just that we've all heard the stories before. The crack about his solo was funny
Is it me or is McCartney's mic really quiet
Was during that song for some reason
Yeah it sounds a little quiet. I think it's partially just that his voice isn't that strong but they could boost it a little bit. Gets a bit lost especially amongst the brass
Mate, play some fucking Beatles songs
Hey Jude *ad infinitum*
Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9 Number 9

Jo Whiley is an absolute dullard
she pissed off Lily Allen, so she has merit
She’s better than Steve Lamacq (no one can be as bad as Steve Lamacq)
Scott mills says hi
All I'll say is I'm glad I stopped doing festivals after Reading in 2006. I'd be knackered by around 9pm and just want a comfy bed and cup of cocoa
I stopped going to festivals after I developed Crohn’s. Festival toilets and a flare up is a combination I never want to experience.
I just had a hoot watching Pearl Jam for two hours and was content from there
I was at Leeds that year and can mainly remember it raining so hard during Muse on the Sunday that we stood round a giant mound of burning camp chairs to stay warm.
>Watching Glastonbury; are there any songs better for 200k sunburnt drunk people on a summer evening to belt out than Oasis songs? > Mr Brightside
That 2019 set was awesome, saw the Killers in Bristol a few weeks ago - one of the best gigs I have been to.
Oh good shout
Just the worst Brit sensation. Arrogant, exceptionalist, dumb. And honestly, they are objectively shit.
It's weird how they have this big rock and roll badarse image and then you hear their music and it's this boring insipid faux-Beatles wank.
> badarse This looks so weird for some reason. This is one very rare time where it sounds better with the American version, "badass". Because of the assonance (badum-*tss*).
The best part of any Oasis song was neither written nor performed by the band
You forgot nutters!
People seem to like Hey Jude, Sweet Caroline, and that one song by Elbow.
and Mr. Brightside.
Who the fuck has the Chaos With Ed flag at the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. It's a thing of beauty.
[He's there, it seems](https://twitter.com/Ed_Miliband/status/1540649782045286400?s=20&t=epT_SvioNU78PXK1Zj2HaA). Maybe it's him holding the flag. I'd adore him if so.
Millibantz
How can it be right that the BBC are censoring some of the acts that they are showing at Glastonbury and not even at least making the viewer aware that this has taken place. As an example the Olivia Rodrigo set completely cut her statement about what is going on in the US and her song with Lilly Allen. No mention was made on this on screen, it was simply edited out.
The Idles set was uncensored as far as I can tell
That's the problem, as far as you could tell. You shouldn't have to guess.
True, but for example he raised the US abortion news in the BBC version
