Any and everything to destroy Russia's army as much as possible. Using Russia's own gear to eliminate Russian soldiers is honestly morbidly beautiful and poetic.
Anyone know what kind of rockets these are? Only rocket pods I’ve ever seen on Ruzzian helicopters were circular, unless you count Vikhr, but that’s laser guided, which makes it a missile.
S-80 rockets. There are ground launch vehicles developed for them on the market.
Example: [https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/2020/05/13/c6a4f6d2-f94b-4b98-b2d8-08b07c5e7486](https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/2020/05/13/c6a4f6d2-f94b-4b98-b2d8-08b07c5e7486)
Well, I would have expected rockets like this. But the pod is what puzzles me, as I have said in my post. I do not recognize the pod as being a launch system in use by Russian helicopters. There are S-80 rocket pods developed for the usual suspects (Ka-50, Ka-52, Mi-28), but I have never seen the pod on this vehicle on a helicopter, the post says it’s a rocket launcher from a downed helicopter, so what exactly is going on here?
The pods are just a bunch of tubes in a framework with an igniter (electrical) They probably just disassembled the tubes and mounted them on a new frame. This was once probably a B8V20 pod (common to the KA-52)
This seems plausible. In such a case I still have issues with the wording of the post title, “installed a rocket launcher from a downed helicopter” seems quite different from disassembling and reassembling tubes and building their own frame. For the last part they should receive the proper kudos for all this MacGuyver work they’ve put in!
I think this is more of a "keep them guessing and hiding" weapon.
Probably just firing into and behind enemy lines to keep them dancing. they may kill a couple, But the effectiveness is the constant fear more than a direct attack.
I think that its best use is in conjunction with a drone, If they are hiding in the woods somewhere this may make them scatter and move about , revealing their position so arty can drop by and say hi!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laying
Basically, you know where they are, you know where you are. You set up correct angle based on this and set elevation based on the distance. In the essence its a basic trigonometry. Ofc, the calculations are more complex and doing them by hand must be pain but there are computers that do that for you including stuff like wind speed or whatever...
You shot one shell. Someone is watching where the impact is and tells you for exaple " 50 meters to west". You correct your angle based on this information. Then you can either shot one more to check how your correction worked or you fire whole salvo to destroy them
Oh.... I know how to FO and run a TACP.( Marines). I’m just more curious in the engineering side of how they solved the targeting problems because this unit is recovered from a helicopter.
They have since decades a reputation of being versatile low budget combat vehicles, especially in desert climates. I doubt they need any commercials at that point.
That’s a Mitsubishi
But you’ve proved the point that Toyota doesn’t need to make that commercial because they already gotten for free the broad assumption that pickup trucks in war zones are all Toyota Hilux
Ukraine's ability to adapt pretty much anything in this war has been crazy. And it's not some hack-job shit like the Russians tying logs to their vehicles - it's 3D printed mortar tail fins and mounting rocket launchers from a helicopter in the bed of a Nissan truck to the extent it looks like a factory add-on.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine figured out how to turn ordinary rocks into hypersonic missiles.
out of curiosity, with rockets like this is there some way that they're able to pick a target with these? or are they just shooting them in the general direction of the enemy (i honestly have no idea)
The first rocket fired is a ranging shot, a spotter then tells the crew how far off it landed, they adjust for this and fire the rest while adjusting for enemy movement
It's basically a rocket propelled mortar. So you have to do a lot of math to figure out where it's going to land. Then hopefully you have a spotter or drone that can tell you how close you were so you can make adjustments.
The Ukrainians must know how to fabricate.
Ive see videos of middle east pickup trucks with rocket launchers shake and rattle. The rocket launching just is so violent on the roughly fabricated trucks.
Ontop of that. The back blast is often large and can fill the cab with flames.
This Ukrainian pickup is extremely stable. And no large flaming back blast
Which means while Ukrainians are being resourceful and DIY wepons. They aren't being sloppy.
Toyota should donate some trucks. They did well in the middle east. Haha
I wonder if the Ukrainian government will try to collect all these guns and commandeered military vehicles and rigged launchers like the one above after they (hopefully) win. They are allllll over at this point, and I wonder if all the citizens will be willing to give up their weapons after being invaded. Bit curious to see how that goes.
Ukrainian volunteers can do that, while Reddit devs can't even make a video player that works.
I'll just close my eyes and imagine the rockets launching.

This upgrade package was not available at my local dealership.
Because this would automatically increase the value when you drive off the lot.
this is only available on the toyota hilux
\^This made me spew my drink...... LOL
This is the Chevy Escalate!!!
Instant traffic remover
It will certainly stop drivers from Russian I'll take my ban now
I need one of these for the next time someone honks at me.
The courage and resourcefulness of the Ukrainian's is an endless source of admiration.

Its morbin time
The guy in the driver's seat is especially courageous...
All mechanized warfare evolves convergently towards the technical. :-)
Bah, you beat me to the 'technical' comment.

Your comments here are exactly what I was thinking, interesting to see anyway!
This one's more A-Team than McGyver, I think.
But unlike the A-Team, the U-Team actually kills the enemy.
How do they have any idea where those things are going to land?
I think this is more of a "keep them guessing and hiding" weapon. Probably just firing into and behind enemy lines to keep them dancing. they may kill a couple, But the effectiveness is the constant fear more than a direct attack.
Maybe even to draw out their counter-arty so that they can counter-counter-arty. That would be funny as hell.
I think that its best use is in conjunction with a drone, If they are hiding in the woods somewhere this may make them scatter and move about , revealing their position so arty can drop by and say hi!
yeah I'm interested too, gonna start a war next week and could use some of those
You could have told me this was Texas and I would have believed you.
30-50 feral hogs are no joke my man
Haaaa! Deep reference. Nice.
Truck would have been much larger in Texas.
3500 or F-450 diesel with a lift kit.
And not a Toyota or Nissan (I think)

I’m curious how the targeting works.
"They're over there."
"Fire in that general direction"

Spray and pray????
The old way. A spotter and a gunner
Even with modern day drones, armies still heavily rely on recon soldiers to help coordinate attacks.
I really want to know that
Have them horizontal and race into the thick of them. Lay down a smoke screen first.
I’m thinking in terms of plotting the missile trajectory, flight time and point of impact.
Hit that area, in that direction.. The physiology impact remains though and will keep Russians constantly on toes digging trenches for cover.
"We all fart in your general direction! "
Fetchez la vache!
Toyota should do a commercial for how well their vehicles fare in warfare.
They have since decades a reputation of being versatile low budget combat vehicles, especially in desert climates. I doubt they need any commercials at that point.
That’s a Mitsubishi But you’ve proved the point that Toyota doesn’t need to make that commercial because they already gotten for free the broad assumption that pickup trucks in war zones are all Toyota Hilux
Definitely a Twisted Metal worthy character right here
Low rent Minion.
BTW they're making a twisted metal tv show
Ukrainians just returning the stuff the Ruzzians left behind. Seems fair to me.
I want my local Toyota showroom to stock these.
That would be weird if your local Toyota dealer was stocking that Mitsubishi pickup. Also weird if they were stocking rocket launchers…

Easy: put the rock on the top of a Z tank turret, and then launch the thing into orbit
The 2A people in America are going to love this shit.
That's the secret upgrade package for the Toyota Hilux after a 20 kill streak isn't it?
Right before tactical nuke
I wouldn't generally consider getting a Mitsubishi in exchange to be an upgrade. But maybe the rocket launcher is worth it.
Ukrain on that whagggg. If it weren't for the Russians I would say they should paint that wagon red (to go faster of course).
Electric blue would look sweet…
This is what Cain and Able is all about, what a fucking travesty, fuck Putin and fuck all Russians who support him, i'm Russian
Improvise adapt overcome-bear grylls
“Improvise, adapt, overcome” is an unofficial slogan among the U.S. Army Marines
And eat crayons
If it hits it hits 🤷🏻♂️
Mom can we have HIMARS Mom : not we have HIMARS at home Himars at home...
Installing that rocket launcher in the back of a pickup must have been quite "technical".
this might be the most technical technical so far
you do not want to date this man's daughter.
Damn, my dealership only gave me free floor mats :(
I pity the fool you gets into a road rage with that truck.
I would much rather face a road rage incident with this than one with the standard dushka on the back.
Ain't no way this is real. Ukraine is on a whole different level
If the truck is rockin' , don't come knockin'!!
That’s soooo genius 👊🏼🤙🏽✨🏆🇺🇦
Wow. What model comes with that extra?
Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.
Welcome to insurgency
Funny how ukrainian makeshift combat vehicles look to be in better shape than many of Russia's military vehicles.
HIMARS, or Hilux - both work well lol

Fits like a glove!
I though this was taken in suburban Texas.
Ok now this is pretty badass!
These Ukrainians..... give them some bamboo, and some duct tape, they make a mortar ....

So Red vs Blue was wrong, you can have a pick up with a rocket launcher
what did they hit?
"Welcome to hell"
This would look pretty cool on my Toyota Tacoma..
Fuck yeah is that a Hilux?
