Just get a placard that takes both, I use a HSGI 3x taco placard with inserts that make them slide out easy

[deleted]

Can't go wrong with placards

[deleted]

Here HSGI Tacos I use this with front taco for like Light / Leatherman / Battery https://www.highspeedgear.com/45dd00#color=7055& HSGI Taco Singles 3x https://www.highspeedgear.com/45ta00#color=7055& HSGI Taco Double 6x https://www.highspeedgear.com/45x2r0 I would get a placard to place these on so you can swap out whenever you need to

[deleted]

Just remember that the AK mags rear lug is “pronounced” it might snag when returning / pulling the mag out. Just make sure whatever placard you get it can come out smoothly. (Check YouTube)

TopOneDoggie

I say get pouches that can fit ak/ar .. problem solved

Upset_Loan4640

Double or single mag pouches?

TopOneDoggie

Umm dm me ill send you pics of my pc to give you an idea

TopOneDoggie

Haha nvm you have them already

Upset_Loan4640

😂😂😂

Still-Employer8749

Single not double stacked. You can have triple mag pouches but having double stacked (6 mags) sticking off your gut is not ideal. Again, whatever you go with field test it in reality based scenario's like sprinting and not losing shit or flopping all around, firing/mag change from the every position, can you reach your essential items easily or make adjustments to radios and what not. Just test the shit out of all your gear. Not wear it around the house but get out there and get dirty putting it through the fuckin paces.

Upset_Loan4640

So do like 5 mags on the plate carrier and the rest whereever I can/want to carry them?

Still-Employer8749

I mean there's no one prescribed manner to do anything. The only wrong answer is ones that decrease your abilities and function as a whole. As well as not being able or ready to carry unexpected gear last minute which your absolutely going to do more times than not. But just think critically, practically and except that your mag pouch set up probably is the urgent task or priority do don't waste to much time on it. Know what you need and what will make you more comfortable. Check out a lot different videos that talk about how and why the use what they have to give you ideas (I'm assuming by the question you're not prior service?) you can buy or acquire gear if you need but spend your time studying and practicing fundamental infantry skills and figure out your gear a little later.

Upset_Loan4640

I have no experience with plate carriers because we still had to use the Lochkoppel you know.

Still-Employer8749

Well, you can still use a similar set up and using a chest rig is a still very good option since you can strip down quickly to just you're plate carrier. Are you using a side plates as well? Only a few justifiable reasons not to

Upset_Loan4640

Ofc I'm using them, wouldn't know why not.

Still-Employer8749

Basically any operation where traveling fast offers more protection mostly in special operations or Recce/Sniper ops. As well as what the threat level and threat type is

Upset_Loan4640

But you won't do such missions in 1st/2nd Bat. I guess xD

https://cloutac.com/products/templars-gear-cpc-3x2-ar-ak-front-panel-gen3. Bought this placard just in case

WillowUkraine

I second the Tacos, just keep in mind if you don’t have them all filled with mags they are prone to breaking. The sides are plastic and not super tough. It also doesn’t have elastic at the top. Everyone I’ve spoken to has no trouble with them but i’m not the biggest fan without elastic on top to keep it in

[deleted]

I am the same exact way about the elastic, however I used to take a pair of pants, and I would cut the pockets, buttons, and shins off then cut squares out of the pants and sew some fabric with an elastic band around the top of them when I was in Afghanistan. You can also make them taller so they have a sleeve that goes higher than halfway up the mag. Learning how to sew/stitch is a detrimental skill every soldier should learn. We also sowed burlap in the crotch, knees, and elbows of our uniforms so they didn't tear as easy bc everyone knows American uniforms like to tear 3 months into a deployment. I would sew the straps on my bag as well to reinforce them.

Still-Employer8749

After making my first ghillie suit for Sniper School I realized it is easy to use shoe goo or seam seal to lock down your stitching which protects and strengths it. I do it to everything that I abuse especially gloves. But I agree if you can't sew and make repairs to equipment you're wrong. Essential as caring for your equipment to begin with.

[deleted]

Man I really appreciate that info!! I've never heard or thought of that. I remember when I deployed the other guys with 2-3 deployments showing us and telling us to make sure we do it so our stuff will last longer. They all had sewing kits and told us we need to carry one, one of them was a sniper come to think of it. Do you have any advice on making straps for my ruck?

Still-Employer8749

What kind of straps, for what purpose? Send pics

FoxxyFrost

OP make sure you get something with TRUE retention. Reason for that is that often those mags you see with open tops tend to break, especially from crawling and going in the prone a lot. Better to have a flap or bungee cord, so when you go go reach for a mag its still there lol.

TouchTheSushi

In 4th bat training you get issued akm's, you will get issued something different depending on the unit you join after, if it's an ak it'll be 5.45 on the front

Im_JustSomeDude

Okay thank you

Calamity989

you get given an AK47/AKM for training, my warrior assault systems 5.56/5.45 mag pouches fit the 7.62 mags fine, however the steel ones are sometimes a pain to fit in them.

[deleted]

This is what I use. But there’s probably other companies that have the same. Just makes it easier to pull the whole thing off than having to deal with MOLLE all the time it’s not needed but it saves time https://ferroconcepts.com/collections/components/products/adapt-molle-front-flap

Still-Employer8749

Just stay flexible man. As my old platoon leader used to say "don't get hung up on the details". I'm sure the most are going to AK platforms if by majority averages. But hell, you might be a pkm or something else in which you'll need to adapt. So I'm packing in a general sort of way. You don't really need to know what youll be carrying because your kit should be as adjustable and adaptable as you are. I want everything adjustable and field tested before leaving. Knowing things like having a removable placard that allows you to remove or apply your mag pouches and other pouches is a game changer. And everyone is different. The essentials that I know I need, what I know I prefer, what weather to prefer for (I mean the extremes) drawing from my high altitude mountaineering and combat experience being unprepared for the environment can disable units and destroy morale if not just kill you, and everything else I know I'll need putting extra attention to detail on the small items like a head lamp that has a red light lens cover instead of one that you have to cycle through the different functions.

Im_JustSomeDude

Thank you

Low-Zookeepergame969

4th Battalion is training battalion- so AK what you will get there, after training at 4th you will maybe have choice to choose where you go, depends by unit where you go, you can get different kind of gun, M4, AK, GROT and something else. So for training just setup 4 mag pouches, don’t overload yourself with shit, once you will get to real unit setup all equipment there. You will get just 4 mags at 4th Bat.

mikatovish

Agilite pincer works wonders, focus on what is important because over here you can get used ones

Im_JustSomeDude

Noted

Potential_Dig_3439

Set everything up for AK, I’ve always refused western weapons due to ammo with the AK there is no ammo problems as both countries seem to have unlimited rounds 😂

Im_JustSomeDude

Noted and yeah I guess that would make sense

Aftermarket feed lips for HSGI Tacos https://hugoindustries.com/products/feed-lips-set-for-hsgi-tacos?variant=35424374259871

Queasy_Distribution3

Or be a chad and run this. Who needs a chest rig Am I right ? .https://carcajoutactical.com/products/eight-pack-rig

natomerc

Kamber Tactical makes a placard that can fit both. The OneTigris Vulture rig is also unironically excellent.

kim_dobrovolets

does it actually not glow under NODs?

natomerc

Surprisingly enough it doesn't. If it does, just use some non-metallic camo spray paint on it.
