I can give you a first hand report of what this is like. PT exam is 25 push ups 25 sit-ups 4 pull ups 12 minute run Obstacle course If you fail to meet those requirements, but actually attempt everything and aren't so out of shape that there is no hope, you'll be offered a "delta" contract. It's the same contract that you sign if you pass the PT exam, however, you must pass the PT exam within 4 weeks. If you don't pass, they'll break the contract and send you home. It is a real contract with the AFU which you can't break until you've served for 6 months. If you don't want to sign a contract, you can keep attempting the PT exam, and if you're improving, I haven't heard any indications that there is a time limit. If you're not improving, or you're being lazy and not doing extra PT to pass the exam, they say they'll kick you out. I don't know if that is just a scare tactic or not.

I've heard the same PT requirements from other 4th bat guys. Interesting to know about the delta contract

Arom123

According to the commander, they added the delta contract to help guys who came over with no money. After signing the contract, they'll get paid on the next pay cycle.

AresLegion

It's a good idea, as a way to motivate recruits but also keep fitness standards in place. Good to know, thanks for the info)

Shouldn’t just be training to pass those standards. Deadlifts and hiking for when you have to ruck. Shoulder exercises and forearm strengthening helps with weapon handling. Core exercises to support everything else. Conditioning like burpees and running. Many others as well. Exercise must become a way of life as there is probably a Russian training harder than you…

BRRRY2

While I can't answer how many attempts you have, if you need more than one on that easy test then I think most would agree you don't belong as an infantryman.

Thank you for your reply, I will get squared away before I leave.

The better you do, the better chance you’ll go to a good unit. That’s all you need to worry about. The standards in training are low. The standards in good units are high.

Ok_Variety_4942

How does that work? Say u are super fit and have a very good attitude, will the instructors talk to different units and like tell them who they think will make good soldiers and who are fit ?

Queasy_Profession_62

Yes that’s usually what happens to the studs in the group

FoxxyFrost

I will shake your hand if you just quit now.

Have heard a lot of people get by without the pull ups. As long as you can do the run part and you are not someone that have not exercised in the past 10 years ago you shoukd be fine

I can't run to save my life, luckily I can run to a pickup truck and get in it and drive off to save my life. 😂 Obviously as a Mortarman you don't really need to be able to run, if you're running something has gone horribly wrong. However we do need to be able to lift heavy objects, some of them extremely heavy, and sometimes with no help. This is why I believe in PT tests that are tailored for the job that you're doing. For anyone with artillery, mortar, or other indirect fire experience, who is thinking about coming to Ukraine, I would suggest getting a large ammo crate and filling it with sand. 2 or 3 times a week move it 100 meters about 50 times. You don't necessarily need to be weight lifter big, but you need to be "farmer strong" if that makes sense.

The only real Answer is there is no guarantee. I have heard theres 1 retry, if you fail again, you go home, but i also heard that very often it comes down to the Discretion of the Recruiter that is checking your Progress. Honestly its not that much, just do your best at home, and do your best when theyre testing you, i have heard that even if you fail, the most important thing is that you show that you dont immediately give up. Show em, that even if you reach your boundaries, you wont stop and do your best, and that might be Reason enough for them to let you trough even if you didnt make the whole Test. Fitness can always be trained, your Mindset with how you go into that Test though will say a lot about you and how you will potentially be on the Front.
