You have to master your rage … or my rage will become my master? I loved this movie everything about it was good except for the Smash Mouth song. Same with Rat Race.
No idea the damn song was in so many movies at the time. Hell The Digimon Movie had it on the soundtrack for some reason ha ha. It was just the late 90's early 2000's movie cliche.
"When you can balance a tack hammer on your head, you will head your foes off with a balanced attack" is just such a beautiful line that I randomly say out loud, apropos of nothing.
It was before its time. It was a parody of a genre that didn't even really exist yet. If it had come out fifteen years later, it would have been a massive success.
The super hero genre definitely existed in movies long before this. Unless you specifically mean movies where multiple super heroes try to team up. That’d more of a plot though. Not a genre.
The superhero genre at the time was basically Superman, Batman, Ninja Turtles, Blade, the X-Men, and a bunch of other movies that did not do very well.
It wasn't really until Spider-Man and Batman Begins that the modern superhero movie started really rolling.
I’m confused? Xmen was one of the top grossing films in 2000. And the sequel did even better in 2003. The movies were also star studded. And had a very serious, modern tone.
Those movies are more in line with the next wave later in the 2000s than they are with older super man or ninja turtle movies. By a long shot.
You mean the Dungeon Family? Cee-lo got caught peeping in my window. I made him sing for me and he gave me some classic hits. I made Danger Mouse re invent him into Gnarls Barkley but yall probably just think I’m crazy.
I never understood why people thought this movie was a flop. Really, no one has been able to explain it to my satisfaction. MM wasn't perfect but it was funny and a bit anarchic. What's not to like? Also, disco is life.
It was a flop because it flopped. Lost the studio a ton of money and the director never made a movie again.
Not deserved, unfortunately - it’s a great flick. But I remember seeing it for my 10th birthday party in an empty theatre opening weekend. It’s brilliant, but it absolutely flopped.
Dane Cook’s character, The Waffler, was written in the script as a superhero who can’t make up his mind and “waffles” making decisions. But Dane mistakingly thought he was a waffle making superhero so he showed up in his Waffler outfit with waffle gadget accessories to the surprise of everyone on set. After some debating with Ben Stiller and other bigwigs in the movie, he convinced them that his rendition was funnier and should be featured in the film.
“I can only go invisible…when no one is watching” lmaoooo
Idk why but power sets with this sort of ridiculous stipulation are really intriguing and could be super entertaining
This is definitely a winner. I always loved William H. Macy delivering the line: "We've got a blind date with destiny... and it looks like she's ordered the lobster."
[Someone has it, and they're working on restoring it. ](https://www.hemmings.com/stories/car-culture/trucks/the-herkimer-battle-jitney-lives-and-the-new-owner-plans-a-full-restoration/)
Oscar award nominee William H. Macy + many Emmys
Oscar award winner Geoffrey Rush + many BAFTA
Oscar award nominee Greg Kinnear + Emmys
Et cetra. It's criminal how underrated it is
I remember when this came out. I wanted to go see it and none of my friends or my siblings wanted to go. Wasn’t this summer of 99? Or somewhere close to that
Yea it was, my first day of 5th I still remember hearing "All Star" for the first time and it wasn't till year later when I found out it was for this movie.
The egg salad speech at the end is rad. I wish we had gotten better and more thorough merch from this. I really want a figure of The Sphinx. HE'S TERRIBLY MYSTERIOUS Y'ALL
As a kid, I was obsessed with the fact that the original three didn't have real superpowers, yet the three recruits did.
I love it when Mr. Furious loses his 'rage' before the big showdown.
For me, just that movie he did with Adam Driver and it’s a skip because of Adam Driver. He’s such a fake douche in that movie, I couldn’t keep watching even for Stiller
The Blue Raja is my name. And yes, I know I don't wear much blue and I speak in a British accent, but if you know your history it really does make perfect sense.
Skipped it at theaters, thought it looked dumb and All Star by Smash Mouth ruined any other desire I had to see it. Rented it and loved it and would watch it anytime I was scrolling and it was on
My best friend and I loved this movie when we were in middle school. That part where the two guys run into the doorway, do that wavey thing with their arms, and then run off; we would do that to each other as like a greeting, haha
Not going to lie, but I always wondered what a sequel to this would look like; that now old, they have to band together and form a younger team to take over. Maybe the Waffler can have his go this time.
Yes the Spleen would be missing. But knowing how kind Paul was as well as a brilliant comedian too. I think he would not want someone to be the son or daughter of the character but more of the opportunity to give an actor a chance at a role not relating to his. Many people feel that when a sequel happens something like a storied “child” has to occur for someone who has passed on. The character could just be written out funny.
But I understand how many fans would want to hold on to Paul and the joy and happiness he brought to them.
My dad and I still quote this! I found the dvd at a thrift store and I watch it a few times a month. Geoffrey Rush and Greg Kinnear are hilarious and it’s weird seeing Frank Gallagher as a responsible family man/ superhero. Can’t even get into how much I love Tom Waits’ role in this. The whole dang cast was top notch and this movie deserves all the love
I could do without the Paul Reubens character because he's just gross and fart jokes only go so far with me and that aint very far. Otherwise it's a fantastic movie that deserves a sequel. Put it alongside Dredd as a franchise the studios totally missed out on.
I luv most of the actors, but found the movie a little cringey. If you enjoyed it, you will probably also like “Dinner for Schmucks”. They both have funny moments, but mostly i just felt bad for our protagonists.
I swear whenever this movie comes up people shit on it. I love this movie. It’s hilarious, ironically campy, fun, heartfelt, and even scary at times. Incredibly entertaining movie.
"Maybe you should put some shorts on or something, if you want to keep fighting evil today."
#“Lucille, God gave me a gift. I shovel well. I shovel VERY WELL.”
You put your father's skull in a bowling ball? *No, pshaw.............guy at the Pro Shop did.*
"Nice to see you so spoon." Is something my brother and I still quote to each other randomly.
This and a lot of “Fork-get” jokes.
You have to master your rage … or my rage will become my master? I loved this movie everything about it was good except for the Smash Mouth song. Same with Rat Race.
That song playing at the end of the movie was a product of the times. Happened more than people like to remember.
I wouldn’t have even minded the song but… why? I was given two copies of the CD.
No idea the damn song was in so many movies at the time. Hell The Digimon Movie had it on the soundtrack for some reason ha ha. It was just the late 90's early 2000's movie cliche.

This is the only good movie that’s ever been made
Junk it!
Is there a Sarcasm Man or something in this movie. Cuz, your comment has that vibe...
I shovel well
I shovel very well
I’ve been given a gift
You shovel better than any man I’ve ever known.
The way Lucille touches his face with her rubber dish gloves is priceless.
Casanova Frankenstein
Wouldn't have been the same without Geoffrey Rush.
That’s my rap name
What about The Not So Goodie Mob?
You mean the Dungeon Family? Cee-lo got caught peeping in my window. I made him sing for me and he gave me some classic hits. I made Danger Mouse re invent him into Gnarls Barkley but yall probably just think I’m crazy.
Perpetrate some evil on these champion city people
Nemeses

"Flop" doesn't mean bad movie. It means unprofitable movie. It lost money at the box office.
He who questions training only trains himself in asking questions…
Am I the only one who finds these sayings formulaic?
Loved this one. William H Macy is always a good bet. I hate Ben Stiller and even he didn’t ruin it for me. Maybe his best movie
His best role is the care taker in the old folks home in Happy Gilmore.
You will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep.
How about a nice glass of shut the hell up??
Great news ladies, arts and crafts has been extended for another 3 hours
Anybody else's fingers hurt?? I didn't think so
Well now your back's about to hurt, because you just pulled landscape duty.
Have you seen heavy weights!!!!???!!!!
Yeah, Heavyweights is pretty much the best movie ever, including Ben Stiller or not
Ben Stiller made that movie 10 times better. Imo
I’m doggin it pat! I’m doggin it!
Come on you devil log!
Idk I'm more of a Royal Tenenbaums stan when it comes to Stiller.
I like Ben Stiller! Tropic Thunder, man.
Happy Jack is still one of his best performances
A simple mistake…
The best character in tropic thunder was Les Grossman. Tom Cruises best role ever
only time I ever laughed at hands that wasn't always sunny.
Spleen was the most gifted of the lot
But sphinx could cut guns half using his mind!
How does he do it? Nobody knows, he’s terribly mysterious.
Wes Studi killed it! Funny AF!
Obligatory Tom Waits plug
Just dont pull his finger..
Absolutely this. Brilliant movie 🍿
And what about the watermelons on my feet?
I don’t remember telling you to do that

Waffle maaaaaannn yeah! Thin 'n crispy, bad guys are history! Legit the only time Dane Cook made me laugh lol
Totally forgot Dane Cook was even in this
“I can only go invisible…when no one is watching” lmaoooo Idk why but power sets with this sort of ridiculous stipulation are really intriguing and could be super entertaining
This is definitely a winner. I always loved William H. Macy delivering the line: "We've got a blind date with destiny... and it looks like she's ordered the lobster."
Damn I forgot how quotable that movie is.
I'm not stab man, I'm not knifey boy!
Knives and cutlery are a part of a table service just as much as any fork is.
You dress in the matter of a male prostitute
Casanova Frankenstein is one of the best super villains of all time
Junk it!
“This little baby just saved your life…”
Junk it!
"And why am I wearing watermelon on my feet?" "... I don't remember telling you to do that."
Funny movie must see
Must re-watch this! One of Claire Forlani’s few films
I still think about Herkimer Battle Jitney sometimes.
[Someone has it, and they're working on restoring it. ](https://www.hemmings.com/stories/car-culture/trucks/the-herkimer-battle-jitney-lives-and-the-new-owner-plans-a-full-restoration/)
My superhero alternate identity would be The Foiler. Id wear TinFoil outfits and foil my enemies plans
This was my first DVD. I was 9.
Isnt this where the smash mouth all-star music video came from?
This movie could only have been better if it had Tom Waits in it....oh wait
Tom Waits
I shovel. I shovel well!
Oscar award nominee William H. Macy + many Emmys Oscar award winner Geoffrey Rush + many BAFTA Oscar award nominee Greg Kinnear + Emmys Et cetra. It's criminal how underrated it is
Obligatory Tom Waits, Eddie Izzard & Goodie Mob plug.
One of those movies that when you look at the cast list it should have been way more successful that it was Still love the movie, still have the dvd
That little sucker just saved your life
I remember when this came out. I wanted to go see it and none of my friends or my siblings wanted to go. Wasn’t this summer of 99? Or somewhere close to that
Yea it was, my first day of 5th I still remember hearing "All Star" for the first time and it wasn't till year later when I found out it was for this movie.
The very beginning of the decade in which every trailer for a comedy movie had a Smash Mouth song for some reason.
My kid loves shrek I can’t stand smash mouth anymore
Hey now your an all start get your game on go play!!
Say it with me now: “Heller”
....crazy chicken world.
I can quote this movie line for line watched it so many times as a kid
I didn't realize their were only 7 members of the team. There are so many awesome side characters in this film as well. Very good flick.
The egg salad speech at the end is rad. I wish we had gotten better and more thorough merch from this. I really want a figure of The Sphinx. HE'S TERRIBLY MYSTERIOUS Y'ALL
Who are you supposed to be? The Disco Plumber?
“The police said it was an accident. He'd come home late one night and fell down an elevator shaft… onto some bullets”
You know I always suspected foul play...
“As have I”
25 Year Anniversary is this month July 22nd. Love this movie.
As a kid, I was obsessed with the fact that the original three didn't have real superpowers, yet the three recruits did. I love it when Mr. Furious loses his 'rage' before the big showdown.
I will get you your Brewskis
Gorgeous cinematography and set design, great comedy, interesting and compelling characters, Tom freaking Waits, I can't complain
Does Ben Stiller even have a skip in his catalog?
For me, just that movie he did with Adam Driver and it’s a skip because of Adam Driver. He’s such a fake douche in that movie, I couldn’t keep watching even for Stiller
The Blue Raja is my name. And yes, I know I don't wear much blue and I speak in a British accent, but if you know your history it really does make perfect sense.
Disco is NOT DEAD!
Are people confusing “underrated” with “not frequently mentioned in this sub” Edit: I did not see the subreddit this was posted to
Skipped it at theaters, thought it looked dumb and All Star by Smash Mouth ruined any other desire I had to see it. Rented it and loved it and would watch it anytime I was scrolling and it was on
All Star has ruined so many things for me.
My best friend and I loved this movie when we were in middle school. That part where the two guys run into the doorway, do that wavey thing with their arms, and then run off; we would do that to each other as like a greeting, haha
Recently got the 4K and it's a great watch. Just a tremendous amount of talent in this movie.
Not going to lie, but I always wondered what a sequel to this would look like; that now old, they have to band together and form a younger team to take over. Maybe the Waffler can have his go this time.
Unfortunately the sequel would be missing one of its kindest elements in The Spleen and I’m not sure anybody would believe he had a kid.
Yes the Spleen would be missing. But knowing how kind Paul was as well as a brilliant comedian too. I think he would not want someone to be the son or daughter of the character but more of the opportunity to give an actor a chance at a role not relating to his. This was one of those movies I didn’t really like the first go and after a second and third watch I really enjoy. 100% a under rated movie personally
Loved this movie as a kid rewatched it maybe 20 times
Truly one of the best.
Was fun
Watched it back in 2022/2023; it’s a good and underrated film!
I mean it doesn't have an Avengers-level following but it has a cult following
How many toggles in toto?
Needed half an hour trimming imo. Too many overlong scenes
We are number 1, all others are number 2 or lower!
The Sssssspleen!
Let's not forget this is the movie that brought Allstar by Smash Mouth to our attention. Mystery Men ran so that Shrek could fly.
I love that movie!!!
Favourite superhero, and favourite comedy, for me. Love it so much.
I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid. I do not remember Elon being in it
This movie still hits 💯
Love this movie. Loved it since I saw it in August 1999 and enjoy it even more now as an adult who gets all the jokes now instead of some of them
the waffler was the best
CLASSIC

We’re reviewing it on the next episode of my podcast, Reel Comic Heroes!
I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid and being terrified of Captain Amazing being mutilated on screen in old school CGI.
Massively? Good CULT super hero movie in my book.
I luv most of the actors, but found the movie a little cringey. If you enjoyed it, you will probably also like “Dinner for Schmucks”. They both have funny moments, but mostly i just felt bad for our protagonists.
It blew my mind when I realized this was based on the comic that teamed up with the Ninja Turtles and Flaming Carrot.
I swear whenever this movie comes up people shit on it. I love this movie. It’s hilarious, ironically campy, fun, heartfelt, and even scary at times. Incredibly entertaining movie.
“You threw a *spoon* at the guy, Jeff!”
Was kind of a prototype for Kick Ass in some ways. Way ahead of its time.
Blue Raja: Oh, *oh I get* it, so YOUR shovel in HIS face is MY fault?
I shovel well
This actually had an all-star cast!
The sssspleen
Really fun movie.
"There's not enough beer in the world Spleen, I'm sorry."
Spoooooooooooon
I rewatched it recently and pleasantly surprised to see the comedy hold up. Plus the aesthetic. It was ahead of it's time.
Incredible movie. Still funny; still cool. Also, Tom Fucking Waits hitting on old ladies.
Bought this one a while back. It’s so odd how it got buried.
Loved that movie
Other than Kel, the acting talent is fire. Anything with Hank Azaria is gold.
I never knew Nine Inch Nails had so many members
I can only be invisible if no one is looking at me
Can we bring brewskies?
Oh you can't use a rake sometimes??
I’m not stab man, I’m not knify boy, I’m the Blue raja
You threw a spoon at the guy, Jeff
Super disappointed by this saw it in the theater, haven't seen it since. Willing to give a second chance. Great cast great concept.
