Thank you for submitting to /r/unpopularopinion, /u/RoughSecretary. Your post, *Just fix the fucking typo. You don’t need to put “Edit: a typo”. I don’t care.*, has been removed because it violates our rules:
Rule 1: Your post must be an unpopular opinion.
Please ensure that your post is an opinion and that it is unpopular. Controversial is not necessarily unpopular, for example all of politics is controversial even though almost half of the US agrees with any given major position on an issue.
Keep in mind that an opinion is not: a question, a fact, a conspiracy theory, a random thought, a new idea, a rant, etc. Those things all have their own subreddits, use those.
If there is an issue, please message the mod team at https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Funpopularopinion Thanks!

Exactly. Telling people what was edited was part of established reddit netiquette back when it was still not one of the largest social media sites in the world. By established I mean it was in some reddit netiquette list somewhere like how subreddits have a rule list. It was common to see "edit: a word". I thought it was fair, since we can't see edit history, and that's always prone to abuse (or hilarity, see some casual ama posts based on editing comments).
I remember when reddit became mainstream this netiquette didn't get passed down to newer users. I got downvoted for commenting about the netiquette to mention the edit in a comment where the commenter corrected a mistake, but then it made all the subsequent comments look very weird as a result.
Correct. There are definitely trolls out there who will write: "r\*p% is BAD!" Get upvoted to the heavens and edit it to "Hitler was a hero!" Then write in the edit-Woah, glad to see all my Aryan brothers and sisters are all online yo!
There must have been a time when there was no "edit" indicator and online trolling must have been pretty wild then.
That makes no sense, if I wanted to edit my post to completely change its meaning, I could just put Edit: Typo and you'd all be fooled, so there's still no point
An asterisk will appear next to the post if it's edited >3min after posting.
If you edit before that 3 min window then an asterisk will not appear, which is called a ninja edit.

Because adding "Edit: typo" means that the alleged typo was what was in reality changed?
Do you really believe that the kind of cynical/paranoid people who would accuse you of any such shenanigans would accept your "Edit: typo" as a valid and accurate change log?
These people would likely not even accept an official printed log provided by Reddit if it contradicted their view of you as nefarious.
Yes!!! If you change an opinion or a fact, by all means point it out, but not grammar. The fuck do I need to know you can't spell "neseeceriaarirly" for?
Edit: I've only added this to find the magic asterisk mentioned below
Some people will try and pick at you for editing a comment.
I remember someone tried saying I edited my comment and removed information, but I was like, I just fixed a word.
Some people are so petty to win an argument.
I edit almost every single comment I post cause I suck with typing on mobile and I'm too anxious to click submit before checking my comment. I always make some spelling or grammar mistake. I have never been called out for an edit thankfully. 🥸
Bro it was just someone being super petty. I forgot what it was about, but someone was defending my comment and they were like, “she deleted some stuff to make herself look better.” And the other person just went along with it.
I was like wtf, I just changed my grammar, I didn’t capitalize a word, that’s it lol.
I’m not 100% sure but I believe there’s a grace period where you can make edits without you being flagged for it. I do the exact same thing as you by the way.
Even then, you could change the contents of a post entirely and still write “edit: typo.” If they think you’re lying about removing info, I don’t think that disclaimer will ease their minds.
edit: removed grandma’s meatball recipe
Well tbf better they do that here than out in the wild. If a comments "important" then fair enough I guess but 99% of this place is just memes and fuckery.

It's been reddiquette for many years to clarify that the author didn't change the content of their post to misrepresent the conversation. Feel free not to, but it undermines that comment and all it's children.

Depends on how you view it on your phone, but yes, you can see when a comment has been edited through certain apps and on the website. I think some apps just ignore the flag, though.
Personally I think it should be taught in schools that when you make changes to anything you document those changes. It's how the real world works anyway. And yes even minor spelling mistakes being corrected need to be recorded in technical docs.
Back when Alex Trebek died I saw someone made a joke about it here on reddit. It was something like "I'll take 500 for 'people who have died' Ale...oh." Yeah, maybe bad taste, but whatever.
But then this dingus came through and replied with "how fucking dare you, why do you think it's okay to joke about someone who died? I hope your family dies so I can laugh at you." Or just something WAAAAAAY too aggressive like that. He got downvoted hard. About 20 minutes later when he was clearly not winning, he editted his comment to instead say "wow, that's a bad joke. You shouldn't joke about deaths like that."
Can you guess if he mentioned in his edit that he completely changed the tone of what he said? If you guessed no, you would be correct.
There was a time someone was aggressively incorrect about something. I called them out and got down voted to oblivion since they were able to edit their comment in a manner to make me seem like a deranged lune. It's definitely proper rediquette to label and check for edits.

[this post for example](https://www.unddit.com/r/unpopularopinion/comments/wn0x8f/just_fix_the_fucking_typo_you_dont_need_to_put/)
Yup, lots of people in the past have had their shits used in comment threads for years because of a grammar change with no acknowledgment.
Also what a weird thing to be agrevated over. People literally put "edit: spelling or grammar" like I can read what their comment is while peripheral vision seeing the edit has one or two words after it so I know it's probably grammar and I ignore it but OP lacks comprehensive skills
Nothing. It's a courtesy. Like saying please and thank you. Realistically it adds nothing, but it's polite. Nobody is calling people out for edits they don't contextualize. Personally I do a ~~strike~~ across stuff I've edited out so it's apparent. Once again not necessary but gives some context to the edit flag.
Nothing. This is going back but there have been many instances where an OP post was edited to make a commentor look like they were talking out there ass because the OP edited the OG post. It's just common courtesy now to explain why edits take place.
Nothing. Just like you can reply to an edited comment claiming it was extremely racist and they should immediately remove it and holy shit how could they.
I mean, why would the reply make up stuff?
Yep, one reason I got into the habit of quoting the comment I was replying to - because people would change the entire nature of their reply with sneaky edits.
I found it super odd when I first came here but understood the intent and just started doing it. It still feels weird to do it but I do think the spirit of “don’t come back and retcon your post” is good for a platform like this.
I wonder why reddit doesn't just account for this by including an edit history. Or at least the past couple versions. I guess it'd use more storage space and whatnot, but as big as this site is, and as relatively rare someone edits a comment, doesn't seem it'd be that bad.
Maybe a cost/benefit thing. Or a liability thing somehow.
Consider origins: reddit used to be *much* smaller. We were a small community some 14 years ago. Back then I lurked because comments were "bullshit cruft that got in the way of my news agreggator."
With a much smaller community and a shoestring budget, the ability to track edits was low. But the desire to understand eachother was much greater, so this facet of reddiquette came to be.
Fast forward to today and I can see why some filthy casuals might not grok the value, but good practice dies hard. Some people comment their code, some people are assholes.
Its still [a thing](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette), its just not introduced to new accounts anymore
Its essentially dead.
i wish the dorks of reddit were called out more often. not gonna lie though, those same dorks put in a lot of effort for some quality ass posts so let’s not try to insult these people too much lmao
>Yes!!! If you change an opinion or a fact, by all means point it out, but not grammar. The fuck do I need to know you can't spell "neseeceriaarirly" for?
Because fuckers reply with something like "FYI, it's its not it's" or make some not so funny joke about a typo, and when you change it, they come back and flame you for "ninja editting".
How do they prove it's just a typo they edited? They could have changed the entire post but still claimed it was a typo edit.
The only way to be sure is to have a viewable edit history.
> How do they prove it's just a typo they edited?
They don't. You assume that the person you are speaking with is ethical enough to not lie about it; then if by some means (unddit, reveddit, what-have-you) you find that they were lying then you (and the community) can castigate them. If I assumed everybody I spoke with on Reddit was going to be duplicitous I wouldn't attempt to speak with anybody. I'm not that cynical though.
I assume you're joking, but for some comments, readers might assume the edit you make could have been to change the content of the comment after others replied. "Edit: spelling" is basically saying "Hey, I know things might be getting spicy in the replies, and you can see I edited this, and I promise I'm not pulling a sneaky"
Yeah, people can always lie or be disingenuous. Honesty is a social construct, and it's worth about that much, but we're taking about internet conversations here. Low stakes, low standards.
I don't think it's a huge deal, it's only a line of text
Edit: I forgot to purposefully include a purposeful typo just so I could purposefully fix it to be purposefully funny

I see that username crap pretty frequently still. I just don't get why anyone would take the time to read through stuff like this and back check every comment to the user to see if they can fit that in.
I dont really agree with you but that's ok, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Edit: typo; accidentally put "go fuck yourself" instead of "I dont really agree with you but that's ok, everyone is entitled to their own opinion."
This opinion is unpopular because most folks give a shit about the integrity of their comments. If my comment is edited, I don't want it to look like I'm revising the history of the conversation. Especially if that conversation thread is an active dialogue with someone.
I believe you can edit it for a couple minutes without it saying anything but on old Reddit on browser at least it will display an asterisk by a message that was edited. I know it doesn’t on the official IOS mobile app though but maybe other mobile versions it does.
Reddit shows edits on browser only. As I understand it, most folks use both, tho the number of mobile only user is definitely growing. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been included in the mobile app.
This is social media, not some college paper you’re writing. If I see a typo, I’m going to change it. Sometimes I even think of a better way to express my thoughts to be more clear and will change parts and never bother to post an clarifying edit sentence. Nobody else seems to care.
The only time I could see it mattering is if you were in a debate with someone and they went and changed their argument or something. But again, it’s social media and who cares.
It's a message board, which is the oldest type of social media. With that comes an older way of doing things, which is why the site rules (Reddiquette) lay out that edited posts need to be labeled.
Why do you give a shit that he gives a shit?
Some people actually have interesting and meaningful conversations on here and may want to preserve them for future readers, and in debates and arguments it's annoying to have a bunch of turds accuse you of editing the comment to make yourself look better.
It's just basic Reddiquette so people know why you edited your comment and didn't try to pull a fast one during an argument, misrepresent your original comment, or something along those lines.
Edit: real talk
There was a time back like 10 years ago that people would constantly point to Rediquette to the point where the suggestion would just receive downvotes. Now I hear about it like once a year and I doubt many newer Redditors even are aware it exists.
Now where's my cane...
There was a time when you might get called out for not labeling an edit. There's a reason why us old timers do it by habit.
I also remember when you might get ribbed for using "lol' in a post. Not sure why that was a thing, but it definitely happened to me. Lol.
There was also a time when any spelling or grammar error in a title meant instant down votes, no matter the content. Now titles generated from spilling alphabet soup hit the front page and no one even mentions it.
I think it was because most of the site was filled with people who were trying to distance themselves from short-form social media like Twitter.
I dunno. I'm almost 40 and I rarely if ever use "lol", even in texts. I feel goddamned geriatric at times
Reddit in general has changed massively. The site used to have a reputation for being incredibly anal about spelling and not using chat speak and now you'll gey a post at the time of /r/all with the title "u r rong xD
A decade ago it used to be a big deal for this reason. No one gives a shit anymore though. I've seen maybe 2 people call out edited comments in the last 5 years. Way back when, tons of people got their panties twisted over it.
Lol...yeah I find this funny too!
I edit posts all the time. Post and then realise I've said something that doesn't read well or bad typo due to autocorrect or there might be something darn bot might take exception to!
I love the people who actually look it up! And say "you edited your post" like it's some big sin against humanity🤣
Yeah, THEY are the problem lol. I have never submitted a post that I haven’t edited. It’s just how I write. Or I will see a typo and can’t let it go. It’s always something trivial, and never once have I explained myself. I don’t plan on it, either.
My reddit app takes 10 seconds to load a video, runs like ass and posts take multiple tries just to load. Idk what kind of brain damage do I have to be still using the official app.
Nothing on reddit is so important that you need to be leaving a paper trail of your edits and reasonings for said edits i swear to god everyone on this app has a complex
edit: just added this and nothing else. You can believe me or not, who knows maybe I originally typed a bunch of slurs and i’m not telling you. Oh no now my comment on this thread has no integrity. Foh
edit 2: actually did fix a typo this time
edit 3: added “2” to “edit 2:”
If no-one has replied, then I'd agree. However if someone has replied specifically mentioning an error in your post, then 'Edit: XYZ' is probably a good idea.
lol People responding “you need to CLARIFY why you edited so people don’t think you’re trying to pull a fast one in an important debate” might need to take a break from Reddit…
I post more often than I would have thought. My practice is to write, copy edit, post. And read it again. It sometimes happens that autocorrect or my own dimness will give me something to correct after posting but as it’s just been a minute I won’t bother you with an edit notification. Hasn’t happened yet, but if the next day I find I’ve posted something factually incorrect I’d do a correction and note it.
Oof. OK. I've been on reddit for a hot minute. Back in the day, if your post was edited, it was a big deal. What did you change? Why?
The comments would have people asking why it was edited so posters started saying why they did it at the bottom of the post after they edited it. This basically eliminated the comments asking why the post was edited but also allowed the user to add more context and clean up the post itself.
This trend caught on quick and anything that was edited had an explanation as to why.
It also kinda came from the fact that people would post horrible things and then edit the post once the hate rolled in
In a similar vain: "edit: wow thanks for all the upvotes!" "Edit: thank you for the gold kind stranger!" "Edit: I can't believe my most upvoted comment is about x"
Nobody gives a fuck.
Yet again (because this comes up fairly often from what I have seen) putting 'Edit: A typo' lets people know that the post hasn't been changed. You have only made a minor change where it doesn't affect the content of the post.
People can see that you have edited the post (on desktop at least) and without putting that in there, they don't know if you deleted half the stuff you once had, changed it to make the people who replied look stupid, or changed a single word within the post.
Edit: Remembered something. It also helps to let people know that your post hasnt' changed since they last saw it.
If I posted something, and an hour later come back and see that I misspelled something badly enough to want to change it, I don't want people who can see that the post has been edited to think I added or removed or changed something, and try to figure out what was changed.
This also isn't just for reddit. A lot of forums I have been on use the same etiquette, so that people know why the comment was edited.
Yeah there are people who make others look bad by changing the entire comment, but I'm not gonna explain every little grammar change I make just so some paranoid Redditor can feel better.
Besides, I catch most of the spelling errors only a few seconds after I post anyway, so I change it before anyone has the chance to see it.
its just a common forum etiquette.
People care about original intent when posting a comment.
There are some people who will edit out unsavory comment because they got flak for it, and then the guy who responded to him will look like an idiot because of the edited comment.
If I make a typo, a grammatical error or forget to change something that needs to be changed because I changed something else, I just edit it and leave it at that. I only put "edit:" if I've changed something important/meaningful. I also don't care if someone edited something my brain probably autocorrected
I have yet to even see the asterisk that indicates an edited post. Also, I don’t think I have ever posted something without editing it. Mostly for grammar. I annoy myself with it but explaining each “edit” would definitely be even more annoying so I don’t bother!
nah, the reason it's there is to explain why your post says 'edited', because you could have done anything to the post, and so, while it's still honour system, saying what the edit added adds some level of transparency
I just edit my comments. The only time I'll add a reason is for clarity or if I was incorrect about something.
I'm on mobile 99% of the time so spelling errors are to be expected.

It's unethical to lie on the internet and no one does it.

Lad, this is Reddit, people will spend hours to try to convince you of an opinion you already have or inform you of knowledge you already know.
It's Reddit. People will rephrase your opinion and argue it back to you not understanding you both completely agreed in the first place.
Y'know I've had that happen more times than I can count.

Didn’t you hear? The Reddiquette! Jeez.
Back then I lurked because comments were "bullshit cruft that got in the way of my news agreggator." With a much smaller community and a shoestring budget, the ability to track edits was low. But the desire to understand eachother was much greater, so this facet of reddiquette came to be. Fast forward to today and I can see why some filthy casuals might not grok the value, but good practice dies hard. Some people comment their code, some people are assholes.
>Some people comment their code, some people are assholes. \*chef's kiss\*
"Reddiquette" 🤓🤓🤓
Hah I mean that’s just what it was called back in the day. If I recall there was a link to the list of basic etiquette on the front page.
Its still [a thing](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette), its just not introduced to new accounts anymore Its essentially dead.
i wish the dorks of reddit were called out more often. not gonna lie though, those same dorks put in a lot of effort for some quality ass posts so let’s not try to insult these people too much lmao
Been a pretty common term on Reddit for a while now tbh. OP didn't just make it up all the sudden. It just isn't used as much now.
It's been a common term longer than some people here have been alive...
It's like spelling and grammar being enough of a reason to downvote on principal back then. Now the base is split.
>on principal 🤔 Not sure if it's an intentional joke or just ironic lol
[удалено]
Dude said reddiquette and thought we wouldn't notice
that term has been around for over a decade
It's not a new term on Reddit bud. Been around a while.

What happens when someone posts personal information? Can't keep that in the edit history.
Then delete the comment
...which we have via other sites. If a high-profile comment lies about the edit, you'd better believe some interested party would call them out!
How does saying that they only fixed a typo prove they only fixed a typo
> How do they prove it's just a typo they edited? They don't. You assume that the person you are speaking with is ethical enough to not lie about it; then if by some means (unddit, reveddit, what-have-you) you find that they were lying then you (and the community) can castigate them. If I assumed everybody I spoke with on Reddit was going to be duplicitous I wouldn't attempt to speak with anybody. I'm not that cynical though.
But I have to know why. WHY did you edit!? I stay up at night thinking about it. There must be a reason.
I assume you're joking, but for some comments, readers might assume the edit you make could have been to change the content of the comment after others replied. "Edit: spelling" is basically saying "Hey, I know things might be getting spicy in the replies, and you can see I edited this, and I promise I'm not pulling a sneaky"
but if you really wanted to pull a sneaky you could just lie
https://youtu.be/bo3S1pgG1o8
I mean, you can put the "Edit: spelling" just as a cover up and try to pull a fast one.
Yeah, people can always lie or be disingenuous. Honesty is a social construct, and it's worth about that much, but we're taking about internet conversations here. Low stakes, low standards.
i’ve always been confused about this. mobile doesn’t tell you when someone has edited, and i’ve never noticed it on desktop either
How do y'all see that a comment has been edited in the first place?
I don't think it's a huge deal, it's only a line of text Edit: I forgot to purposefully include a purposeful typo just so I could purposefully fix it to be purposefully funny Edit: Typo
It's kind of annoying. Edit: Typo Edit 2: Woah, this blew up. Edit 3: Thanks for the gold, kind stranger! Edit 4: /s Edit 5: Spelling and grammar Edit 6: Why am I getting downvotes? Edit 7: A word
I hate when I see someone edit their comment whether it’s on reddit or if it’s on YouTube, just to simply say thanks for likes/awards
r/AwardSpeechEdits Edit: nothing
Joined. Thanks for the new adventure. I’ll sleep when I’m dead.
It really grinds my gears when I click to see the full comment that's partly hidden because of it length - and realise that the rest of it is just a god damned thanks for all the fish (oops, I mean thanks for the "likes").
Cool guys don't look at explosions. Even if your comment explodes with likes or award, do not look back and edit. That immediately kills off the vibes. Edit: Typo Edit: Grammar Edit: Just cause
This a trillion times. Edit #1: originally used billion, but changed to trillion to emphasize how much I hate it Edit #2: not /s. I hate it Edit #3: thinking about it a little more… I’m kinda ok with edits thanking for awards. But likes/upvotes/ “wow this blew up” is annoying af
Yes, there's definitely a lingo in this realm. At least we don't tend to see "user name checks out" much anymore. Thank the gods.
I guess this is the right sub then
To be honest, I’ve only ever done that because I’ve seen other people do that and thought it was like an unspoken rule 😶
It's literally a written rule. [Reddiquette](https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439)
This opinion is unpopular because most folks give a shit about the integrity of their comments. If my comment is edited, I don't want it to look like I'm revising the history of the conversation. Especially if that conversation thread is an active dialogue with someone.
Unrelated but what is stopping you from doing illegal things on the internet? Edit: Typo
You can be caught. The internet does not forget.
Does Reddit even show if a comment has been edited?
I believe you can edit it for a couple minutes without it saying anything but on old Reddit on browser at least it will display an asterisk by a message that was edited. I know it doesn’t on the official IOS mobile app though but maybe other mobile versions it does.
Reddit shows edits on browser only. As I understand it, most folks use both, tho the number of mobile only user is definitely growing. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been included in the mobile app.
I'm on mobile, Reddit Is Fun app shows the asterisk too
I see the "edited" asterisk on the Sync app just fine.
Same with Apollo
The mobile boost app shows that a comment had been edited.
Why would you give a shit about your Reddit comment integrity. I think if we made a list of things that don't matter this would be pretty high up
Why do you give a shit that he gives a shit? Some people actually have interesting and meaningful conversations on here and may want to preserve them for future readers, and in debates and arguments it's annoying to have a bunch of turds accuse you of editing the comment to make yourself look better.

I prefer the real cringe. >Sincerity is peak reddit Perfection.
What integrity? This is Reddit. Most people use it to be a dick to strangers.
You may be projecting more than you realize. Dare to be sincere.

I like men’s basketball Edit: added “‘s basketball”
I always edit my comments and no one has said a single thing to me. So no, nothing happens if you edit the whole fucking comment

But you can always say that you edited for spelling but might’ve changed the original post entirely
mobile new reddit users can’t see that a comment is edited.
It depends on the app I guess, never used the official app. I can see it on Boost for Reddit.
But how do we know they didn't just write "typo" and actually did change something else?

I DEMAND satisfaction when I click spoilers goddammit
First dude to comment is a Donkey fondler…
Hey! Interspecies Erotica, fuck-o.
I do as I please Edit: typo
I agre (Edit: tiepo)
This was part of Reddiquete back in the day. It was considered courteous to leave a note explaining why the edit-marked comment was edited.
Reddit shows when there's been an edit, so it's a courtesy to say why. Edit: Happy Cake Day!
not on new reddit mobile
Only if you use official app. Third party apps show and they are honestly better in so many ways
My reddit app takes 10 seconds to load a video, runs like ass and posts take multiple tries just to load. Idk what kind of brain damage do I have to be still using the official app.
Nothing on reddit is so important that you need to be leaving a paper trail of your edits and reasonings for said edits i swear to god everyone on this app has a complex edit: just added this and nothing else. You can believe me or not, who knows maybe I originally typed a bunch of slurs and i’m not telling you. Oh no now my comment on this thread has no integrity. Foh edit 2: actually did fix a typo this time edit 3: added “2” to “edit 2:”
If no-one has replied, then I'd agree. However if someone has replied specifically mentioning an error in your post, then 'Edit: XYZ' is probably a good idea.
Yeah, sensible edit tagging for the win
lol People responding “you need to CLARIFY why you edited so people don’t think you’re trying to pull a fast one in an important debate” might need to take a break from Reddit…
This is what I do, and if you care, that's too bad, because I don't.
I like you're style. Edit: fixed correct your to incorrect you're
I do this. I announce an edit if I add anything to the original comment, like more info, a link, etc.
It's remarkable how many people thought it would be clever to do what OP is talking about. After seeing it done 217 times, it lost its cleverness.
Popular opinion, but one that needs to be mentioned
Oof. It also kinda came from the fact that people would post horrible things and then edit the post once the hate rolled in
I literally made a post about this and the mods took it down because it’s not an opinion. Therefore, this post should be taken down as well.
In a similar vain: "edit: wow thanks for all the upvotes!" "Edit: thank you for the gold kind stranger!" "Edit: I can't believe my most upvoted comment is about x" Nobody gives a fuck.
What's stopping me from editing the content and lying to say I edited typo?
Good thing no one has ever lied...
Totally *fucking agree.
Its to show that you didnt make an edit to your actual post content. That it was just a typo fix
Jesus yes. Why the fuck do people do this?
its just a common forum etiquette. People care about original intent when posting a comment. There are some people who will edit out unsavory comment because they got flak for it, and then the guy who responded to him will look like an idiot because of the edited comment.
Edit: just so you know.
If I make a typo, a grammatical error or forget to change something that needs to be changed because I changed something else, I just edit it and leave it at that. I only put "edit:" if I've changed something important/meaningful. I also don't care if someone edited something my brain probably autocorrected
I agree so hard with this. It might be unpopular but it ain’t wrong!
Happy cake day Edit: typo
This is a reddit problem. The on thing Reddit should steal from Facebook is edit history.
Thank fuck! This always makes me so mad
I have yet to even see the asterisk that indicates an edited post. Also, I don’t think I have ever posted something without editing it. Mostly for grammar. I annoy myself with it but explaining each “edit” would definitely be even more annoying so I don’t bother!
I'm new to Reddit and thought that is what you had to do or get kicked off of a sub or reported as suicidal.
nah, the reason it's there is to explain why your post says 'edited', because you could have done anything to the post, and so, while it's still honour system, saying what the edit added adds some level of transparency
I just edit my comments. The only time I'll add a reason is for clarity or if I was incorrect about something. I'm on mobile 99% of the time so spelling errors are to be expected.
I agree with you edit: typo
It's just anal head cases pleasing other anal head cases.
