I really needed to hear this. Thank you. I wish you the same. ❤️

Expensive_Potato7316

You’re welcome!

I also needed to read something like this. It made me tear up. I’m one of those that had been struggling a lot. I lost my 12 year business due to the pandemic. I’ve being applying for almost a year now, many referrals, no interviews. Can’t even tell you how hard it’s been. Thank you for your words! I needed them. Sending you positive vibes and light along your way

<3 hang in there. I had a terrible job with minimal transferrable skills for 10 years and finally threw all my energy into applications. I applied to HUNDREDS of jobs and updated my resume dozens of times and spent hours on the OPM website looking for keywords and qualifications to tailor my resumes and interview scenarios. Well 5 years, two promotions, 1 transfer and one lateral move later, i have a whole different life. I’m making twice what i was and in two more months I’ll get another grade increase. It really does happen if you live for usajobs for awhile and tailor tailor tailor. Good luck 🍀

ZealousidealYam3537

Congrats. When you say tailor, do you mean you went into resume builder for each position and tailored and adjusted your resume? I thought USA jobs did not use ATS like private sector…? I’m so confused now.

TheSheWhoSaidThats

Not for every single job, but for every type of job/series. I have a general one that i use if I don’t have time to tailor, then i have 2 or 3 saved that are tailored toward job categories. If something comes along that’s absolutely perfect and i want it really really bad, i go through the questions in that specific announcement and make sure each one is specifically/clearly addressed in my resume.

Expensive_Potato7316

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I can’t imagine how you feel as it relates to losing your business especially after 12 years. Though it may not mean anything we know most businesses fail after the first few years so please be proud of your accomplishment. I trust that something will come through for you very soon.

BroccoliOne6320

Thank you so much for your words! Sending blessings your way! Good luck 😀

i'm in a tough spot. we just had a baby and i've been on parental leave for 11 weeks now, i have 1 week left. I'm a USPS worker and i absolutely do not want to go back to that job, but it looks like i will have to. i've applied to 125 federal jobs since december and have only had 3 interviews so far. i have one more interview for a contract specialist 1102 next week, and i'm basically praying that i get it. my only options are to continue working at USPS until i land a job at another agency, or quit, which i don't want to do, since it obviously looks bad when trying to transfer.

Expensive_Potato7316

I understand and I hope you get something soon. VA has already started a huge hiring surge and it will continue pending the Presidents signing on a new bill to help Veterans get approved for benefits. About 70k jobs will be needed to be able to service the Veterans so VA is trying to get ahead of the ball. Look for openings with them…LAS positions are remote

phrostbyt

i'm holding out hope. i check usajobs every day for jobs that i might be eligible for. I have a background in IT, as well as a BS in psychology and MA in government. you would think that would be enough to get SOMETHING at least, but not yet :(

Expensive_Potato7316

It will come! Sending you lots of light, things happen when we least expect it

No-Target6913

IT cyber security is very hot and in demand now. (I am a HR Specialist). If you could get some of the certifications and put it on your resume, you stand a very good chance of getting employed. A lot of job are with DoD and would require a clearance so if you think you'll pass the backgroound investigation I would suggest giving it a try.

phrostbyt

ironically my MA in Government is Government (Homeland Security & Counterterrorism) and I did a certificate in Cyber Security. but I don't have any certification, i guess i should look to see what kind of certs the feds hire with. too bad i didn't do this 11 months ago!

No-Target6913

Go to the National Institute for Standard and Technology (NIST) and peruse their page which will give you insight in what they are looking for: [https://niccs.cisa.gov/workforce-development/cyber-security-workforce-framework](https://niccs.cisa.gov/workforce-development/cyber-security-workforce-framework)

phrostbyt

thanks i'll take a look

ElderberryEqual2911

What is LAS?

Expensive_Potato7316

Legal Administrative Specialist in short you take calls from Veterans and answer questions about their benefits. There is a hiring increase for this position due to upcoming bill the President will be signing to qualify more Vets for benefits. You can work as a LAS remote and training is virtual

ElderberryEqual2911

I was applying with USPS, is it that bad?

phrostbyt

depends what you're applying for.. and more importantly your specific station

ATLBusinessMan

I'm not sure what your salary needs are but usajobs recently posted another contact representative position, over 4000 positions available, its remote, union representation, over time available. It is direct hire announcement so they are not conducting interviews, as soon you apply, you will get a call. http://www.usajobs.gov/job/655096900#

phrostbyt

thanks for letting me know, too bad the site is down for maintenance! i actually setup a saved search for remote jobs.. i wonder if i already applied for it? if not, i definitely will!

phrostbyt

thanks, i just applied. i wonder why i didn't see it the first time around, i usually check usajobs every day. hmm

Johnnguyen0220

Thank you i hope everyone will hear good news soon!❤️

Expensive_Potato7316

You’re welcome!

mon2day0mor2ning2

Thank you for your encouragement!

Expensive_Potato7316

You’re welcome

Connect_Box_2577

Thanks for the encouragement I was really starting to believe that no employer WONT discriminate against me for my severe medical disability despite being over qualified for every job I’ve ever had to date. I hope I can find a job with the federal state or local government soon

Expensive_Potato7316

You’re welcome! If you haven’t already check out VA Legal Specialist positions…it’s really a call center set up but we work remote from home & training is virtual…it’s really sweet if you are trying to get your foot in the door plus if you have a disability there should be a form you can sign that offer protection and etc

Sorry for a longer post I just think it needs some context to get my point across. I've had the opportunity from the military to get thrown around in different areas that have nothing to do with the job I was trained for. I learned to work on airplanes and inspect engines. I got orders to a new base, requalified on everything faster than anyone else, inspected those planes/engines, and "broke" them. Supervision did not appreciate that even though it should have been found several times before. I got sent to the tool room and got assigned additional duties for a program that had been given up on neither anyone in the section nor even QA knew what the standards were. I was trained on forklifts and other industrial equipment, hazardous materials, and waste by the base environmental engineers. I fixed and improved the entire program myself. I knew things no one else did and basically saved us from a major logistics problem. For anyone in the military, take those duties seriously, there are vets that did and turned it into a career. I have. That's what makes the difference between someone with a business degree and someone with real experience and maybe an associate's degree or less. I won't get into how useless arts degrees are. You may apply for an environmental, logistics, or even business office job, especially for you all with no military experience, you don't have the experience of real problems that will happen to the people you would potentially lead. You have to prove that you can do the job and have learned how to solve real problems without your supervisors' help because you're competing against people that have great stories real or not. What's better, the same story you and 50 other people have or to be able to at least say you know how to solve problems ( in specific circumstances ) of people you would lead or help manage because you at least know how to use the equipment that makes units move, your veteran competition will. I and them will have more opportunities, better answers to interview questions, and not be useless in situations where someone needs to step up to make the mission happen. Have no idea? Go to a local equipment rental company for forklifts, cranes, and scissor lift training. It's the scary situations that'll you stand out as a problem solver and you'll be rewarded for it. At the very least you'll know a little more about safety which could open up even more opportunities and is severely lacking with budget constraints. It's a lot more fun than competing for GS jobs that do nothing and hate their jobs because they sit in front of a computer and have no fulfillment. Going on with a lot of our current situation that everyone is going through with federal jobs, with everyone retiring and transferring to agencies with better funding so that you can do your job the way you're supposed to everyone feels your anxiety about it. Keep working for your dream job and keep helping everyone else get to theirs if they like it or not.

Expensive_Potato7316

Thank you for sharing!

[deleted]

Thank you for posting this. Although I’m grateful to be currently employed, I’m not in my *dream job* yet. I hope to find that this coming fiscal year.

Expensive_Potato7316

Yes I’m hopeful as well! We got this don’t give up until you get what you desire. When you get that go ten times harder because it won’t feel like a job when passion is found!

[deleted]

Very true :-)

Poopfiddler81

Thank you expensive potato, I pray I do. I feel like the job I’m in now is purgatory compared to what my Masters Degree should get me in a job.

Expensive_Potato7316

Yes I completely understand but our dream jobs are coming! I will definitely be asking for the federal employee student loan forgiveness incentive because they can pay up to 60,000 (10,000 each year) student loans, but they must sign off on the form.

Poopfiddler81

That’s awesome!

Flat_Print3068

Thank you for the encouragement...I've applied so many times and get many referrals but still no interviews nor selections....I think its time to end my search because its not working out.

Expensive_Potato7316
