So April 29th I got my Tentative offer. April 28th my current supervisor at my state government job called me into her office to ask if I had been applying for other jobs. I lied to her to tell her that when I was an intern for them in college I was applying for over 150+ jobs on USA Jobs. I said that to save my own jobs ass. So in two weeks on may 14th I got my finger prints done and all the medical documentation sent in. Eqip was sent to me the first week of June 1st. The final offer letter was sent to me June 20th. That week I waited till July 4th after the holiday to spring my notice on them. I was kinda tempted to do it on the spot because we were being FDA Audited at my company, but I didn't want to be a jerk during the inspection. My official start date is August 2nd.
Apparently to get this job you have to have confirmation clearance from the place you currently work at. So hiring managers from the USDA called my supervisor. The supervisor they called was just my temporary supervisor because my original supervisor was arrested 3 months into my full time employment. My original supervisor was arrested for setting up video cameras in the women's restrooms at my work. So honestly when the temporary supervisor was called by the USDA I think she knew why I had several reasons for looking for a different job. Still she should have never called me into her office to ask if I was applying, it was very unprofessional.
Yep, 6 months ago I accepted a position, got a raise. Then 3 weeks ago I got another offer for a job I interviewed for BEFORE this job. I accepted it and got another raise. Good ole government efficiency at work.
My FO was rescinded 3 days before start time for a mistake HR made 9 months ago. Until you are behind your desk, don't think you got the job. It could go away any second for any reason. Be it your fault or not. Learned that the hard way.
They thought my community College GPA and 4yr University GPA get averaged out by my university on my university transcript. My university doesn't do that. I was given a FO based on that assumption by HR and no one told me. Once I submitted my final transcripts after my last semester (which was 2 weeks before I was supposed to start), they thought about it for a week and half and ultimately decided to rescinded the offer. (this was for an internship)
Long story short, I didn't do too well the first 2 years of my undergrad, had a 2.5 GPA. went to a CC for a year and had a 3.9, went back to my old university and averaged a 3.9 again since going back. By that point I had averaged a 3.9 gpa for 2 years.
When I applied, I was still at CC. HR had both of my transcripts, they knew about my old GPA, they knew I was going back to the old university cus I had included my acceptance letter.
So it wasn't something they were not aware of before hand. If my uni GPA and cc GPA were averaged, I would have over the minimum requirement but as others mentioned, no university does that.
Had they just told me they had this assumption from the start, I would have told them it wasn't gana happen but oh well.
I am not sure but you should know your current GPA and final GPA plays a big role in what jobs you get offered. So does the words that you use. The don’t need to tell you the assumptions as you should have to meet the minimum standards which you did not. You should have asked if would be an issue and they could have clarified. I do it all the time and I have been a fed for 14 years.
Again, it's not like they didn't know my GPA. They had all of my transcripts. They knew what my GPA was and still gave an offer.
Fundamentally nothing changed from when I was given an offer to when I was supposed to start. I continued to have a 3.9 GPA every semester. It was just the number on a piece of paper that wasn't what they thought it would be.
Saying I should have asked x or y doesn't make any sense. By the same analogy, they should have asked or said you have an offer assuming x and y so they would be at fault too.
If anything I think it's the HRs Mistake to not mention you have this offer contingent on the two gpas get averaged on your transcript.
Alps who the TF cares about that. They have a calculator, they can average it them self...
(yes every time I think about it I get more pissed)
Well the good thing is that when I was given the TO I asked the people in HR do I need to send my community college or just my 4 year University Transcript. They said just send your 4 year. Plus I had already graduated over a year ago before I even got my tentative offer.
Yeah Me and my wife who just finished college are moving from Mississippi to Maryland. I have been in Mississippi for over 23 years of my life. I'm ready to get out of this state.
You know I have family who kept telling me to keep applying like they did. I come from a family of federal employees that do not work with the USDA. I felt it was impossible to get on the federal government. I would say just keep applying. I put in over 150+ applications back in February and I am still getting phone calls and emails today to do interviews and join them. So surplus in number really does help.
Your resume needs to be in a simplified bullet point list that has all the key words that are in the job description. For example, I am a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) trainer. On my bulleted list I have my certifications like HACCP, SCP, and SOP as key words. The field I have chosen has a lot of jargon. So when your resume has these key words, when you have your interview, it is important to bring these key words up and things that you know about it. Also I applied for over 150+ jobs on USA jobs, I had like 50 tentative offers all over the country. So the volume you apply for will help out a lot. Because if you mess up one interview you can learn from it so you can ace the next one. When I was applying for all the job announcements, I had a word document beside me with all my short answer responses so that I could stream line the application filling out process.
Hey! I interview tomorrow for a USDA position as a loan processor (?) Don't remember official title.
I have 5 years mortgage experience and this is a perfect fit. Any tips on the interview process? What type of questions did they have?
Congrats! I know it's got to be exciting for you
Congrats! What was your full timeline?

How did your supervisor find out about it before you even got your TO?

Great question… the people must know 🤔
Is this how government jobs go? You waited 4 months?
I’m just now getting my final offer with DHS after applying 2 1/2 years ago.
Yup pretty much sadly
Not uncommon. Mine was like a month I think, but I already knew it was a done deal anyway.
I waited 3😑
Yep, 6 months ago I accepted a position, got a raise. Then 3 weeks ago I got another offer for a job I interviewed for BEFORE this job. I accepted it and got another raise. Good ole government efficiency at work.
That's kind of fast. The process is slow for sure.
My FO was rescinded 3 days before start time for a mistake HR made 9 months ago. Until you are behind your desk, don't think you got the job. It could go away any second for any reason. Be it your fault or not. Learned that the hard way.
What mistake did HR make?, I’m intrigued…

It sounds like you didn’t have the minimum gpa that was required so you do not meet the hiring standards so they can’t hire you
Long story short, I didn't do too well the first 2 years of my undergrad, had a 2.5 GPA. went to a CC for a year and had a 3.9, went back to my old university and averaged a 3.9 again since going back. Welcome to the government! I am not sure you will last long in this environment
Well the good thing is that when I was given the TO I asked the people in HR do I need to send my community college or just my 4 year University Transcript. They said just send your 4 year. Plus I had already graduated over a year ago before I even got my tentative offer.
That is a crazy mistake as NO schools include grades before transfer in the graduation GPA!
Congrats ! And Welcome to Maryland. I hope you like Old Bay. 😬
Welcome to Md !!
Where are you moving to Maryland from? Are you ready for the culture change?
As a Marylander, what is Maryland culture? :P
They put old bay on their cornflakes.
I fry an old bay Turkey every year for my family on thanksgiving. Best Turkey ever with old bay on its crispy fried skin.

And shitty drivers, lol
“The best shitty drivers!”
Natty Boh with an Old Bay rimmed glass. For those unfamiliar, it’s a light lager beer with Old Bay on the rim. It’s disgusting lol
Just being amazing.
Speed cameras
tax your dreams

Ah I see! Thank you for your comment. For my series, not much of opportunities are up, so I just gotta wait, but thank you and congratulations

Pretty sure the post says they got a FO, and their TO was 4 months ago…

What's the best way to get a job with the government
