Still better than ET on the 2600.
No joke, I'm probably in the top 100 of "humans who have spent the most time playing ET". My mom used to sit me down with a bag of Reeses Pieces n I'd play the game poorly until she was done doing whatever.
Considering what a stinker that title was, I'll bet that's a pretty low bar. I wonder if even that many people stuck with it long enough to finish?
^((I did.))
I know a guy who was at that dig. They invited him along because he gained some recognition for releasing a "fixed" version of E.T. a year or two prior to it. Don't recall much about except he got a dug-up copy of it, and the Ready Player One author was there.
He will defend ET to his dying breath, saying that it wasn't bad it was just before its time.
just a sidenote: if you skip the first boss (trophy from another server) and kill all other bosses, you still get the raid from before the first boss ;)
Okay, I did a second play through and discovered that the trolls take way longer to mine the copper for you. Plus I died way more. It was way easier to kill the trolls with fire arrows and a crude bow, just lure them out of the black forest first. Once you've killed 2. You can craft the troll leather pants and tunic. The deer hide helmet is also okay. Then you summon Eikthyr and kill him in 2 min.
This Armour protection will last till you hit the swamps.
Aye, it's definitely not an optimal playthrough, just a one-time option. Did it ages back when we fired up the peaceful hangout server just to see if we could. The more sensible option is probably to have separate peaceful and normal worlds and just borrow tech upgrades from the latter.
Don't you still get the other events too ? I mean, say you beat only Bonemass, wouldn't there be as much chances to have Eikthyr's event than Moder's, or Skeletons or blobs ?
you always get the story raid from before eikthyr, if you havent killed him yet. this boss somehow starts the chain ;) this does not exclude other events like troll, skeletons, blobs etc.
EDIT: I just played again and I got first the raid from before eikthyr and afterwards I got a foul smell.
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Events says, that killing a boss enables one raid and disable another raid. I dont know, when this was updated/patched.
Not true, I skipped eikthyr and only killed elder and I have had trolls and the foul smell events occur, thankfully only once each so far. I was going for Peace before I get my base area all set up, it failed by fighting the elder
You undercook fish? Believe it or not, raids. You overcook chicken, also raids. Undercook, overcook. You make an appointment with the dentist and you don't show up, believe it or not, raids, right away. We have the best patients in the world because of raids.
You only need one 2-star boar.
The baby boars will be mixed and random, but you'll get some 2-stars. Then you just kill any remaining no-star or 1-star boars and bam... the rest will always be 2-star.
(unless a recent patch changed this for some reason)
Even then, Iām on the Dragon boss and go boar hunting regularly and have yet to see even a single 1 star boar, let alone a 2 star close enough to base to get it in a farm
Before H&H I had a 2 star farm and it was pretty good, but it was useless quick because boar meat wasnāt that important compared to now
While you can get lucky with a 2-star on your home island, the trick is to find them much further out and tame them there. You'll have to build a pretty large pen, ideally with multiple cage areas to incentivize more breeding; and build up walls for protection.
Create a portal that goes right to that pen, hopefully connected to your garden for easy feeding. That way it's just a portal away and will feel just like your home base boar pen.
I made my garden really pretty, very well planned out for both function and aesthetics; two portals are there, one to a boar pen and one to my plains farm.
> have yet to see even a single 1 star boar, let alone a 2 star close enough to base
they are incapable of spawning within a pretty big distance from spawn. so if your base is near spawn, thats why.
I think with recipes like turnips too and sausage you should be able to use deer meat and boar meat alike. It makes sense from a practical standpoint that you would be able to just make sausage from whatever meat you have laying around, same thing goes for a meat and vegetable stew.
3 big logs stacked on lenght and then a pole on that with 2 piggies. It makes them poop infinite babies on the floor because of how the breeding stack works, then I just built walls around it and now itās a pig farm tower
I thought the pigs stopped eating when they aren't on the ground now. Someone put up a youtube video about a boar farm that will work now (pit and a narrow raised earth section that the boars front feet are on).
I can confirm they are still eating. I think the condition is to have floors. I have 4 boars (2star) in a 4x2 with 1m floors. Infinite meat and scraps.
Unless you have higher level wolves the slime poison hurts them quite a bit. We lost about 8 wolves in a slime raid last night but since they breed like crazy itās not a bid deal as long as 2 survive
They have enable and disable triggers. so for example elder dead and the deer guy alive you'll have the forest raid and say the troll and swamp raid but not the greydwarf raid.
>idk why we got bored of the no boss world so quick
Because you didn't work for it. It probably wasn't the "no boss" aspect of the game that bored you, but rather the "no challenge" aspect of it. Try it from scratch.
I know what you mean. I started playing alone 6 months ago on account of everyone else leaving the server and not being able to continue alone, all I do is build. Well lemme tell you, it just feels like a chore most of the time.
Downside: Odin doesn't come out to watch you. Which is a highly blessed occurrence.
We started a new server since H&H and haven't killed a boss yet. There is literally no point. All of their trophies just sit in a chest brought from last server.
Sorry. Items put in the Obliterator disappear forever and are replaced by coal (the game calls it A Gift From Thor). Most items give pretty crappy item-to-coal ratios (not that it really matters. The Obliterator is like a tag sale - the point is to get rid of shit). Trophies give one coal per trophy (or pretty close to it).
Newb question. Are events tied to characters or the world state? I.e. if i want a pick axe on a no boss run would i have to make it and leave it in a chest in a new world? Or can I use a character from another world?
The world. I think multiplayer would be unmanageable otherwise.
Also, you can make a pickaxe on a no-boss run. You just have to bait a bunch of trolls.
Damn.. last time some trolls came to visit and I was on the other side of the camp. Our camp is surrounded by a ditch and wooden wall. Sadly on one part of the camp there was no workbench. One MF spawned exactly there next to my pig farm. As I reached the spot I saw him slaughtering all my one-star-pigs.
So next time ill try a noBossRun
Pretty much. I like to live peacefully. If I don't kill any bosses, boars and necks are the baddest asses that ever come knocking at my door.
The challenge comes from achieving all the amenities of a comfortable life *without* killing any bosses.
I like to have my world peaceful as well. I do however have another world where I kill bosses and farm materials, so if you don't want to do your challenge mode I can recommend that.
It's almost worth it just for the change of pace.
Keeping two worlds going where one is your progress world, with all the murder and chaos, while the other is your building world where you can bring over materials and build to your heart's content, only having to worry about the occasional boar attack...
...pretty nice.
I can see where you are coming from because on my restart for H&H, a troll raid utterly destroyed my first home. They were swinging tree trunks at my wooden house. I didnt have a moat or terraformed high walls. Its taken another 30 hrs of gameplay to rebuild and fortify an island. Finally I can get to iron and stonecutting.
i had difficulty with the exploit today, solo vanilla H&H, not sure if it still works.
inconveniently imprisoned instantly on old chair, new chairs not settling down. still testing...
Right? Thought this as well. I'll kill bosses on my friends server and get excited when I dont have to hunt boars because they're all right outside my house lol
Raids are ridiculous.
Up in the mountains, mining silver by myself. One of those abandoned houses are nearby (generated by the game). Welp, the game thought it was a perfect time to spawn a "You're being hunted" raid because of my proximity to said abandoned house. I was slaughtered.
I thought I had to make the structure for raids to spawn at those locations, but I guess that's not the case. Will be sure to destroy that damn house the next time I play (while dancing around the stone golem that lives there).
>"You're being hunted"
The wolf hunt event works differently to the other ones. They trigger when you are far away from your base, and in the mountains. There's also a fuling horde event in the plains. The other raid events require you to be at home.
The abandoned house nearby was just a coincidence, ironically making a bed in there would have prevented the hunt from beginning.
Interesting. I'll keep that in mind as I continue mining silver (and will hightail it outta there the next time it happens).
I have no idea how anyone would survive that raid. There's just so many wolves it seems like it's impossible to not get overwhelmed.
I donāt remember if it has to be your active spawn point, or if it just has to be an owned bed. I think it has to be your spawn point based on my own experience. I often set my spawn point to a camp a fair distance away from whatever building project Iām working on to avoid base raid events.
My strategy for the hunt and horde is to just run like heck and get out of the event radius. The event timer stops so the red circle becomes a no-go area unfortunately, but the next event back at base will overwrite it.
Edit: Doesnāt have to be your spawn point, raids will spawn on you even if itās not your most recently used bed.
I thoroughly recommend having both a peaceful hanging out and building server, and a war and adventures one. No limitations on planeswalking between them after all.
You bait a troll. Find a troll, shoot him with an arrow or two. When he chases you, lead him to a copper deposit. Stand on the deposit and dodge when the troll swings at you. The troll will (hopefully) hit the copper deposit, knocking some copper ore loose. Do the same with tin deposits. Rinse and repeat. After you've accumulated 26 copper and 10 tin, you have enough to craft a bronze pickaxe (6 copper for a forge, then 20 copper and 10 tin for the pickaxe). It takes some doing.
I'm surprised there still hasn't been tweaks to random invasions. They don't really add anything other than frustration.
At the very least I think there should be proper home defenses, not just spike traps or whatever weird cheeses people come up with.
Iron also spawns outside of swamp crypts. It's just well hidden, and you're not really supposed to be able to find it until you have the wishbone.
If OP really dug up all that iron *without* the wishbone or the swamp key, I salute you. That's some serious grind right there.
You can either clip the gate with a chair or dig under and jump up into crypts.
edit: i see OP did reply the exact same thing and they used the chair
It's not that tough to find enough iron for a pick axe, a long ship and a banded shield if you're willing to spend the time and you [know where to look](https://i.imgur.com/cALgsfj.png). You don't really need the iron armor, skip straight to silver.
The place looks like some WWI trench warfare battle zone afterwards, but it's the swamp so it wasn't exactly pretty to begin with.
You can get the occasional scrap iron from killing oozers, also scrap piles occasionally stick out the ground. Silver is easy to find also, gotta keep an eye out for suss looking rock formations, they're usually nearby
I used the hoe to level ground on my first playthrough. It took about three minutes to find silver.
After trying to find a second vein, I realized how incredibly lucky I had gotten.
The bosses literally invaded Valheim to sabotage for Odin and just to give some examples, the greydwarfs were murderers and great sinners reborned as the greydwarfs! The dragurs was a great and noble people, their pride however, became their undoing! They challange the very gods to have even more then just their towers tall enough to touch the clouds and dungeons deep in to the earth to have all those precious metals all for then selfs! But the gods would not look on this lightly, Odin leveld their cities, Loki consumed their souls in flames, Thor broke their towers and Freya sowed their fields with salted tears! Thus the unholy walkers in ancient armours called Draugr was created! So yeah, all talk about peace, doesnāt really make any sence my fellow viking!
The overwhelming majority of the uses for silver are gear. And since I'm not gunning for any bosses, my need to 'gear up' is pretty limited. So the only item that takes silver that I feel I *must* have is the Butcher's Table, which only takes 2 silver. Seems pretty doable, even the hard way.
It's worth noting that the "The ground is shaking" event can not only be activated by killing the elder but also by killing a Troll, or more specifically, a troll dying. That means that even if you don't personally kill a troll, any troll that dies in your world can activate the event. This can happen if you're in a black forest biome and a troll spawns that then proceeds to pick a fight with another mob and dies.
Lmao are you giving me an attitude because I said prefer challenge in my games? Go back to building for fun oh my god, there's no problem with building for fun, relax
I like a good joke as much as the next guy, and I don't even mind when I'm the butt of the joke. But could you maybe find a less sexist way to go about this?
Well, you two ARE wanking over who has more Valheim clout because little Spite voiced an opinion and instead of leaving well enough alone, you had to front that-- based basically on absolutely nothing but *your* opinion which is somehow more valid here. Then they reply pretty evenhandedly by saying they've tackled it on their own, fair enough, conversation over.
But no. You have to take it a step further. You do the puckish, puerile disengage of 'Of course you did.' God, who the fuck even asked you dood. Who even asked?
And instead of leaving *that* moment-spent-embarrassing-your-parents-for-raising-you in the dust where it bloody well belonged, you took this even a step *further* and boiled this neutral disengage down to sexism.
I've seen people looking for fights, I've seen people on the trail of blood, but this is a special kind of axe to grind. The mere thought that someone disagrees with your world setup has led you here, somehow, to breaking down a disengage to sexism when it's pretty clear that the intention is to get both of you to shut up because you're acting like god damned clowns.
Why?
You're kinda just a piece of shit, though, so at least I'm not you.
Get mad over Valheim more, you absolute square. And maybe don't attack age if you're gonna bring up sexism. Dumbass.
Oh, and answer the question. Why so mad?
It takes 26 copper and 10 tin to craft a bronze pickaxe. That takes a fair amount of troll baiting, which is considerably more difficult than defeating Eikthyr.
But then you already knew that, didn't you?
i don't think it's much better than woodbuckle parry, neither are ideal, they're a bit shy on blockpower, and i think they may interrupt the animation from deeper into copper lodes
i just used dodge rolls, his swings don't seem janky/floaty (ie intuitive motion) and it seems client is allowed to decide outcome (no need to worry about netcode/ping)
I haven't tried the bone shield. My usual M.O. is to dodge as much as possible. I try not to go toe-to-toe with a troll until the troll is seriously low in the health department. Trolls hit *hard*.
Personly, I'd rather get toe-to-toe with a troll than be at the edge of its range. I find it way easier to dodge this way, and you can swing your blade through its knees, or just punch them. It helps a bit to lower its life a bit before recycling, when the deposit is empty or you have enough and have to dispose of the worker. But think about the environment : why just kill the troll when you can recycle it into a cool-looking cape ?
On our server, we call that Eikthyr event, "Uber Eats", because the food comes to you.
I call it "Domino's Delivers", which I suppose is showing my age.
If we're using pizza and video games to show age, how about that abysmal "Yo Noid" game back on the NES? š
Man I haven't thought of the phrase "avoid the Noid" in a long time.
I have but only because the McElroy brother mention it in an episode of "My Brother, My Brother, and Me"
Are two of those brothers named Daryl, by chance??
I have the T-shirt.
Domino's is currently running a campaign where the Noid does a cameo appearance. It's the one with the self driving delivery bot.
Yeah I don't have cable and have add blockers on every device as well as add free subscriptions. I likely won't ever see that.
^((I did.))
Didn't they bury all the copies in the desert
Yes, they excavated a landfill a couple of years ago for a documentary and found some of the buried game cartridges.
Man, she got the full product placement going on.
LOL - I'm 99% sure it was the inverse and those were by my request
I take it you didn't have berzerk. My mom used to play that game with us
Pizza and video games reminds a little too much of lego island
Now that is some nostalgia.
That game was great, actually. I played the heck out of it...
Itās not delivery, itās DeerGiorno
just a sidenote: if you skip the first boss (trophy from another server) and kill all other bosses, you still get the raid from before the first boss ;)
You don't really need anything from Eikthyr provided you can troll bait enough materials to build a regular pick.
Literally easier to kill the boss lol
It's much easier to kill the boss. But easy isn't the goal. The goal is peace.
Plus the way the game's set up you only need to do it one time ever.
Okay, I did a second play through and discovered that the trolls take way longer to mine the copper for you. Plus I died way more. trolls are triggered by killing trolls. the foul smell should not coming.
"The ground is shaking" is triggered by killing BOTH a troll and The Elder.
Nm I'm an idiot, didn't read that correctly before I responded
I believe this was changedā¦ā¦.because as soon as I killed Eik I started getting āthe forest is moving.ā
the point is to not kill him :)
Oh! I wish I wouldāve thought of that :))
All along with no trolls to knock down your base while you afk to get a drink
That's the idea.
You still get the troll raids, unless you never kill a troll.
Turns out that isn't the case. Troll raids are triggered by killing the Elder.
And killing a troll, both conditions need to be met.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You undercook fish? Believe it or not, raids. You overcook chicken, also raids. Undercook, overcook. You make an appointment with the dentist and you don't show up, believe it or not, raids, right away. We have the best patients in the world because of raids.

Idk dude the end just reminded me of this quote from Parks and Rec lol
Pretty sure its elder plus a troll.
I afk in my base all the time.
just make a portal to a safe afk base like a mountain fort or near the trader
All the tails and boar meat!!
i've been desperate for boar meat so I can make sausages
Boar farm, no?
Are super inefficient unless you get lucky with 2 2 star boars

I tried this but apparently the boars do not eat or breed if the player goes too far from them
My team noticed this too, we always joke that when we are going afk that we are "going to watch the boars fuck"
> have yet to see even a single 1 star boar, let alone a 2 star close enough to base they are incapable of spawning within a pretty big distance from spawn. so if your base is near spawn, thats why.
Huh, so you make susages with boar meat?
Boar meat, thistle and entrails.
And the upgraded kitchen.
I think with recipes like turnips too and sausage you should be able to use deer meat and boar meat alike. It makes sense from a practical standpoint that you would be able to just make sausage from whatever meat you have laying around, same thing goes for a meat and vegetable stew.
The dragons are the most annoying, remember them killing my precius pigs over and over. I got a pig farm tower now so itās all good
ā¦Pig tower? How pig are we talking?

Look up pig farming Valheim
How did you get iron if you didn't defeat the first boss Edit: read the other comments no need to reply
If you don't kill aby bosses, you don't get annoying night spawns ( like greydwarf shamans nuking your carrot farms through the walls.)
Yup. That's the idea.
Once you get wolves only problems you will ever have is slime raids troll raids and dragon raids
...slime raids? oh no.
Unless you have higher level wolves the slime poison hurts them quite a bit. We lost about 8 wolves in a slime raid last night but since they breed like crazy itās not a bid deal as long as 2 survive
So if you skip the first boss, but kill all others in a world, you can only receive this event ? Or do I miss something ?
I haven't killed any bosses. I assume killing any bosses trigger the appropriate events.
Okay but still nice for a building world. Never thought about this. Thanks!
They have enable and disable triggers. so for example elder dead and the deer guy alive you'll have the forest raid and say the troll and swamp raid but not the greydwarf raid.
You cant get troll or swamp raid without killing the Elder Only moving forest all the time... I'm really tired od these but I dont want trolls
Sorry i got it mixed up. I seem to only get two trolls at a time right now
No need to sorry. I didnt meant it to be agressive.
You weren't haha I just realised my mistake.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
>idk why we got bored of the no boss world so quick Because you didn't work for it. It probably wasn't the "no boss" aspect of the game that bored you, but rather the "no challenge" aspect of it. Try it from scratch.

I do miss seeing Odin. I throw trophies in the Obliterator. They give the best return.
What kind?
Any. Whatever I have too many of. I think they give close to 1:1.
Sorry for the confusion, I have not played the new update yet. What kind of return do thropies give in contrast to regular items?
Really cool design, thanks!
I'm early in a no boss run right now and I really love that eikthyr feeds all my wolves for me every once in a while.
Ok so what triggers the sulfer smell in the air and the fire guys?
Killing Bonemass and a Surtling (https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Events#List\_of\_Raid\_Events).
I never got the Eikthyr raid despite going in almost 30 days before killing him.
I like the greydwarf raids cause resin<3
I clear all the saplings around my base to make hunting easier. Clearing saplings nets a considerable amount of resin.
Resin is obsolete when you get iron. Burn their eyes instead.
Can't put their eyes in sconces.
True, but braziers burn forever on coal.
Damn.. last time some trolls came to visit and I was on the other side of the camp. Our camp is surrounded by a ditch and wooden wall. Sadly on one part of the camp there was no workbench. How do you get stone buildings and iron swords and whatnot without killing bosses?
I got bronze by baiting trolls. I got iron using the chair exploit. I'm currently working on finding silver using Stagbreaker.
Chair exploit?
You craft a chair so that the seat of it is halfway through the bars of a crypt. Then you sit in the chair. When you get up, you enter the crypt.
Then when you exit the crypt, you're outside the bars?
Yup.
If they ever want to fix this glitch they should only change this part. :D
i had difficulty with the exploit today, solo vanilla H&H, not sure if it still works. inconveniently imprisoned instantly on old chair, new chairs not settling down. still testing...
I haven't used it for a few days (maybe a week), but I know for certain the exploit was working post-H&H.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtVTmdxEB6c
How do you plan on smelting black metal?
I haven't thought that far ahead. I may not. The only reason I would want to is to make Pots and Pans.
That's what me, my fiance and our friend are doing on our new server. It's basically ordering take-out XD
Its free food tho lol
Right? Thought this as well. I'll kill bosses on my friends server and get excited when I dont have to hunt boars because they're all right outside my house lol
Raids are ridiculous. Up in the mountains, mining silver by myself. One of those abandoned houses are nearby (generated by the game).
Lunch time!
The entire reason why I have avoided killing Eikthyr in my world
How do you get metal with out a pick
You bait a troll. Find a troll, shoot him with an arrow or two. When he chases you, lead him to a copper deposit. Stand on the deposit and dodge when the troll swings at you. The troll will (hopefully) hit the copper deposit, knocking some copper ore loose. Do the same with tin deposits. Rinse and repeat. After you've accumulated 26 copper and 10 tin, you have enough to craft a bronze pickaxe (6 copper for a forge, then 20 copper and 10 tin for the pickaxe). It takes some doing.
Huh cool
I love my no-boss run! <3
Are there any mods that can just disable raids altogether?
I don't know. Probably. I run a vanilla game, though.
I'm surprised there still hasn't been tweaks to random invasions. They don't really add anything other than frustration. At the very least I think there should be proper home defenses, not just spike traps or whatever weird cheeses people come up with.
The moder one is better we call it free eye scream!
But how can it be a real no boss run, if you take materials from another server?
Who took materials from another server?
Some other random guy elsewhere in the comments that they apparently confused with you.
You can't build a pickaxe without defeating eiktyr and therefore not farm any metals..
I baited trolls to get them to smash copper and tin deposits. My first pick was a bronze one.
That's a legit strategy. What about the iron, though?
Stagbreaker shows dmg numbers when it hits iron (or did they remove that?)
You can get the occasional scrap iron from killing oozers, also scrap piles occasionally stick out the ground. Silver is easy to find also, gotta keep an eye out for suss looking rock formations, they're usually nearby
Silver is very easy to zero in on when you have a suspicious looking spot using Stagbreaker.
I used the hoe to level ground on my first playthrough. It took about three minutes to find silver. After trying to find a second vein, I realized how incredibly lucky I had gotten.
I used the chair exploit. I've heard you can tunnel your way into crypts but I haven't yet tried it.
Completely forgot about that. Gonna have to give this a try someday
Exploit, really, a man of your talent?
It's a peaceful life.

Luckily, your approval was not my goal. I just like to live in peace. I figure bosses probably feel the same way.
My man!
Odin never gave me a deadline, and in the game I'm functionally immortal. So I figure I can take my time about it.
Not an exploit. Macguiverheim over here just pried the iron gates like you would with a crowbar. Just need a lil ingenuity
Ok, legit.. But hell a lot of work to achieve this minor event..!
Trolls to break copper/tin, draugr can drop iron and you can dig blind for silver
Draugr do not drop iron. Oozers do.
You're right, my bad, remembered draugr dropping them for some reason
this sounds cool EXCEPT the blind digging for silver... groooooaaan
Stagbreaker/iron sledge can function as silver detectors
No bosses has pickaxe lol
Game is too easy if you don't defeat bosses IMO
you could delete all your weapons
I take it you've never tried it.
I did on my own server for 50+ hours
Of course you did.
Lmao are you giving me an attitude because I said prefer challenge in my games? Go back to building for fun oh my god, there's no problem with building for fun, relax
Ladies, you're both very pretty.
Why?
Do fuck off. Your knowledge of psychology is sophomoric and your attempt to apply it to strangers is childish. Thanks for participating, though
Not trying to disrupt the argument, but: Is the Bone tower shield useful in this regard? Or are you better off running away at every club strike?
i don't think it's much better than woodbuckle parry, neither are ideal, they're a bit shy on blockpower, and i think they may interrupt the animation from deeper into copper lodes i just used dodge rolls, his swings don't seem janky/floaty (ie intuitive motion) and it seems client is allowed to decide outcome (no need to worry about netcode/ping)
No need to tame boars this way
The moder one is better we call it free eye scream!
