You can surround your base with walls and dig a moat around the wall. You can also breed a large pack of wolves to protect the base and surrounding areas. Keeping your base structures and farm in the open is asking for trouble as you've already found out.

Blackhawk99x

This is the way. Deep Trench, High Wall, Wolf Pack. Though now I have a Wolf/Lox pack. Loxes feed the wolves killing deer, boars and necks that spawn around them. I have so many Tamed wolves around my base it isn't even funny anymore.

I’m a big fan of drenches walls and spikes. But my hubby just likes open spaces. When I said we need to build better defences he said we had defences. We have walls not defences.

ArcaneEyes

You don't need high walls, just deep trenches ;-)

tranquilseafinally

We can't do trenches as we are right by the water. I need to mirror the garden somewhere else I think.

ArcaneEyes

I don't believe blobs can swim, so just dig as deep as you can and built a wall maybe 2 tiles high and i think you're good. Make the edge too steep to climb and make space for spikes between the water and the wall so anything that jumps up gets pushed back in. An overhang with spikes on the wall could probably also push the blobs back when they try to jump over. I think you have some decent options ;-)

Kaarl_Smash

He'll change his mind really quickly. You'll probably be dead six times over and half your base gone by the time he does, but he will! This game is not friendly to a lack of defenses as time goes on. My advice? Go build yourself a very, VERY secure little keep on a small island somewhere. Make sure you have a backup of everything. Ideally it will be somewhere with good access to the swamps and mountains by boat. He may laugh, but when the bad raids come, you'll have the last laugh sitting safely in your island castle.

tranquilseafinally

hahahahaha \*this\* was actually what I came up with. I'm going to scout out a base of my own and slowly build it up and DEFEND it. I've actually already done that with my boar farm. He didn't want to have to \*look\* at a boar farm so I built it on another continent and defended it with walls and stakes. If I get another swamp event that takes out my farm I'm going to start digging all around it to get some depth.

Kaarl_Smash

We're big fans of islands for defense. Once the whole thing is covered with workbenches nothing else spawns on it. Then raids have nowhere to start except over on the mainland, and that's not where you are! If you can engineer a very long bridge over to the mainland, that's nice for access. But if the water is too shallow and the island too close, stuff will just spawn over there and walk over to your base. Our last base we found a black forst island and a plains island off the coast from some swamp. We farmed the plains and built the keep on the black forest island, then made a giant stone bridge over to the swamp, and a fortified gatehouse at the end. Raids spawned over in the swamp, so once the swamp raids were done everything just picked fights with the swamp critters and didn't bother us.

Redundancy. If you have a limited number of something, don’t put it all in one place. If you found four seeds, plant 2 and keep 2 in a chest. As you harvest, replant most but add a few to your backup stash. If you find a 2* boar, don’t tame him, harpoon and drag him home immediately. Tame him and a friend and build a small farm right where you find him and start breeding him right away. As soon as you have a couple, split them off into two locations, either your main base or a second farm. Always keep a healthy number at both places. You never know when a *cold wind blows from the mountains.*. Same with wolves, although I like to keep 3 in a central part of the base and breed them, then when there’s 6 I’ll take 3 and run them out a bit and leave them. Gradually the area will be blanketed in wolves and one raid won’t be able to wipe them all out. This works best if you’re in an area where deer spawn. I’m not sure that it works as well in H&H, it seems they are breeding on their own less, but it’s a different base so may be unrelated. tldr: don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

tranquilseafinally

We had \*just\* found them and it was my first planting to make it triple. This is our second play through. On the first one I built everything and chose the site. It was defended and our garden never got overrun. lol We had tons of wolves and the thing that bothered us was their constant howling.

bstowers

Wolf howling is the worst. Keezy's Better Wolves mod is the only way to keep tame wolves. If I had to give up that mod, then it would be wolf kabob for dinner every night at my place.

CowboyOfScience

Raids want you more than they want your stuff. You can just bait them away. Sometimes you have to move fast, though. Some mobs can be devastating to your homestead if you don't control the situation immediately.

My hubby stupidly ran INTO the garden when I told him that they were heading there. I was trying to lead them away. So I guess they tracked onto him. They ended up killing about 80 plants. I’m just glad that we still have 3 onions. It took us forever to find them.

CowboyOfScience

My wife does stupid shit, too. But not quite as much stupid shit as I do. So I figure it's in my best interest to forgive her quickly and easily.

tranquilseafinally

The upside is that I still have 3 onions so not all was lost. It may be time to build a Global Seed Vault like they have in Norway. Just in case.

glacialthinker

I hate the blob raid. Crops, livestock, and wolves... easily wiped out. My current solution has been: stay away from home. Not a real solution, but for now I'm busy with some exploring (looking for Yagluth). I was thinking that I might be able to make walls more blob-rejecting by having some 45deg angled roofing or beams, or any kind of overhang to prevent them from hopping over when they're at the base of a wall -- but coming up with a nice aesthetic for that could be an issue. I think they only do their AoE attack when they have a clear line to a target, so they don't trigger through walls even though they'd have effect. So, boars (or veggies) behind walls and a roof might be fine... until wolves (or a husband) get in the mix causing them to spew. So I've also been considering that I might need outer and inner walls/fence, or something, to keep that margin of their AoE range. Sorry I don't have much more than untested ideas and sympathy!

tranquilseafinally

My blob tests were happening at the boar farm. I had a blob event there that wiped out more than half my farm. I made some changes so now I need to see if the changes will work.

Magneith

All you can do is build a second wall further out. Perhaps build higher if it jumped the fence, They still damage through walls too so dont plant too close to the wall. Had my piggies in a stone wall pen and they got poisoned through the wall.

tranquilseafinally

Yeah I think that's what I need to do: two lines of fences. And I need to talk my hubby into having wolves again. My wolves in our other game took out \*most\* of the blobs.
