My friends and I tried for daaaays trying to get the damn banshee through that last skinny tunnel, and we just never got it. Is the scarab gun even real or was it just a mod with a convincing video?
IIRC the way to do it was to ditch the banshee before the checkpoint. It doesn't disappear if you're not in it.
It's been awhile since i played Halo 2 though.
Yeah I cannot even begin to count the hours I drained on this game, and again when anniversary dropped. But the OG Xbox multiplayer was something else back then. Slayer on Lockout, super jumping lol, just nothing like it back then really.
It got even better when you came to expect the glitches. Whenever my team spawned on the beach in Zanzibar, I would always make a bee line for the sniper on the ocean wall, and earn myself the first kill of the round by skeet shooting a super bouncer at the height of their jump. Only sometimes did no one come flying out.
Halo 2 is and likely will forever be my favorite in the franchise. The Anniversary remaster made me remember why I loved the game so much and made me fall in love all over again. It really is a spectacular game. It did everything the first game did but better and I think is a testament to how great a sequel can be.
I consider Halo 2 to be the greatest sequel in gaming history and I don't even like FPSs. The world building, lore, voice acting, online play, campaign, story, and weapon design are all S Tier.
From the moment Master Chief says 'I need a weapon' you knew you were in for a momentous experience.
Completely agree. It and CE still handle like butter and put a lot of games that come out even today to shame. And yeah that story 👌
And the soundtrack!
For real I played it a couple of years back and was shocked by how innovative and fun it felt even today. It feels like every level is trying some unique thing to make the gameplay loop more interesting
Wow, now I feel old. I remember being so excited when It was being released. I played it every day until I beat it. I downloaded CS and DOD, and the multi-player was incredible for those mods. The physics used in the game for objects on the map was like no other at the time.
Edit: What also comes to mind is watching the bodies fall after you shot em down. It was hilarious to see the limbs and stuff flop around
Edit2: Then I remembered just now how my computer at the time didn't have the capability to run it, so I paid like $900 to upgrade my computer literally just to be able to play HL2 and CS source and DOD source.
It’s getting a bit of a renaissance on PC. It doesn’t take much to run it these days, either. Even a decent integrated graphics could run it well enough to hop on and give it a try.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005)
It improves on everything the first did and gave us HvV, space battles, and of course
GALACTIC CONQUEST!
The only downside, in my opinion, was Geonosis. The map was perfect in Battlefront 1.
What I was going to write but realistically its street fighter 2
Its probably the only game on this list where when people talk about the game they are talking about this version. When people think street fighter. Almost no-one is thinking the original game.
Might genuinely be one of the greatest games of all time and the suicide mission is undoubtedly the greatest, most awe inspiring segment i ever played in any game period.
The suicide mission was SO good that I was incredibly let down by Mass Effect 3's final mission. I thought it would be like the suicide mission but on a MUCH larger scale, like we would command entire fleets and determine where reinforcements would go, that sort of thing.
They’re close. Sonic 2 being a self-contained game (no & Knuckles required) bumps it up a lot, but I liked the convenience of having a save file, the special stages, and I loved the soundtrack. Full disclosure, Sonic 2 is a 9.5 for me and Sonic 3 is a 9.75!! Two of my top 10 games ever
I got in trouble in preschool for drawing Pyramid Head on the whiteboards because “You’re not allowed to draw weapons at school.” My mother got a lot of calls about it, as I wouldn’t stop. Silent Hill 2 has been my favorite game literally as long as I can remember. I used to watch my mother play it over and over again. My very first memories are of Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2 is the perfect game and I’m totally not motivated by nostalgia
I liked playing as him in 358/2 in 2 though while I like Roxas his part gets carried out a little too long and feels rather slow compared to the rest of the game. Also always feel the need to get 1200 munny though I really don't care for the job minigames which doesn't help.
This is it. Such a massive improvement on the first game which was already badass. I played through that game so many times. The addition of Harry Hamlin as Perseus was amazing as someone who had grown up watching Clash of the Titans, i was pumped.
Last of Us 2 lived up and surpassed all of my expectations and was probably one of the few games I bought on release day (simply cuz I’m always behind in gaming).
For old school games it would be MK2.
Halo 2 is still to this day one of the best games I’ve ever played. That multiplayer was ahead of its time, don’t even get me started on the campaign.
The scarab gun.
My friends and I tried for daaaays trying to get the damn banshee through that last skinny tunnel, and we just never got it. Is the scarab gun even real or was it just a mod with a convincing video?
It's real. You had to break the "wings" off the banshee to get it through
Dang. I know we tried that, but the checkpoint would always delete the banshee. Oh well.
IIRC the way to do it was to ditch the banshee before the checkpoint. It doesn't disappear if you're not in it. It's been awhile since i played Halo 2 though.
You ditch it right before it says "Loading... done."

Glitches like super bouncing especially in mid match was just such a superior feeling. Amazing times.
Lockout was the map. Battle rifles no shields.

Duel wielding needlers, that is all.
Energy Sword fights for hours and running people over. Had battles using just Shotguns and RPGs.

The Arbiter story line blew my mind. What an awesome campaign. Top 5 games ever.
Portal 2
I immediately started looking for Portal 2 in these comments
Half-Life 2
It still amazes me how little that game has aged, considering that it is turning 20 this year.
And it plays great on steam deck!
For real I played it a couple of years back and was shocked by how innovative and fun it felt even today. It feels like every level is trying some unique thing to make the gameplay loop more interesting

Finally a good answer
And Team Fortress 2!
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
The soundtrack was incredible
Titanfall 2. My first shooter game, and I still love playing it.
Arguably one of, if not the best multiplayer fps.
I agree, the campaign was great, and when it wasn’t a dead game, it was a great game to do multiplayer on.
It’s getting a bit of a renaissance on PC. It doesn’t take much to run it these days, either. Even a decent integrated graphics could run it well enough to hop on and give it a try.
It's been revived by the Northstar mod. Respawn didn't fix the bot problem, so we did it ourselves
Twisted Metal 2
Is this the one where you could hold the top right button to fire (spectre maybe) machine gun and then do up down up up on d pad?
The best one of the series to me.
Same - although TM: Black and TM: Head-On are close second and third, respectively.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) It improves on everything the first did and gave us HvV, space battles, and of course GALACTIC CONQUEST! The only downside, in my opinion, was Geonosis. The map was perfect in Battlefront 1.
Galactic conquest was VASTLY improved in 2. It just doesn’t feel the same in 1
Ashamed this is so far down
Only two things I didn't like in two, geonosis and the fact you couldn't go prone, so dumb
Streets of Rage 2
Damned right. One of the GOAT.
Still my favorite video game soundtrack
Damn right.
It was such a great game!
What I was going to write but realistically its street fighter 2 Its probably the only game on this list where when people talk about the game they are talking about this version. When people think street fighter. Almost no-one is thinking the original game.
Uncharted 2
Mass Effect 2
Might genuinely be one of the greatest games of all time and the suicide mission is undoubtedly the greatest, most awe inspiring segment i ever played in any game period.
Suicide Mission is so good! Though I loved my playthrough where I got as many killed without losing the mission, was brutal haha.
The suicide mission was SO good that I was incredibly let down by Mass Effect 3's final mission. I thought it would be like the suicide mission but on a MUCH larger scale, like we would command entire fleets and determine where reinforcements would go, that sort of thing.
I can’t believe I had to go this far down for ME2.
Its the top comment for me when I clicked
Yea that’s a sin
Sonic 2, definitely.
[удалено]
I prefer Sonic 3, but Sonic 2 is such a huge improvement over the first
Sonic 3 was good, but something about Sonic 2’s level design and soundtrack just wins it for me. *Chemical Plant and Metropolis themes intensify*
But be honest ... if you have SnK, you're playing S3nK. It's not required, but you're not turning it down if it's there.
Correct! The whole package is definitely the way to go.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles is a better game overall from a critical standpoint, but I like Sonic 2 better.
Need For Speed: Underground 2
Oooo my childhood dear god. That Cingular sms
Spider-Man 2 on PS2. Before the new Spider-Man games came out, that one had the best web-swinging. Edit: a word
Carrying an enemy up to the top of the empire state and throwing them off will never not be a good time.
Spiderman: with great criminality comes great verticality Criminal: what? Wait! WAAAAAaaaahhh...
Silent Hill 2
I got in trouble in preschool for drawing Pyramid Head on the whiteboards because “You’re not allowed to draw weapons at school.” My mother got a lot of calls about it, as I wouldn’t stop. You sound like a serial killer lol!
Nah, that’s my friend Walter
You were playing Silent Hill 2 in preschool? Did everybody clap when you drew it?
Borderlands 2
Still play it. Great game.
Same, and it's not even close. Next would probably be NFSU2, Halo 2 and THUG2.
Scrolled too far to get here
Black Ops 2
Surprised this isn't higher. Probably the best COD in the last 15 years.
Resident evil 2 for sho
Left 4 Dead 2
Yes
While there are a lot of "games with a 2 in the title" that are a lot better, L4D2 does really well in the "games with a 4 in the title" competition.
Kingdom Hearts 2 🔑❤️
That's mine as well. I love everything in that game even atlantica except the prologue tutorial that honestly goes on too long imo.
I loved playing as roxas
I liked playing as him in 358/2 in 2 though while I like Roxas his part gets carried out a little too long and feels rather slow compared to the rest of the game. Also always feel the need to get 1200 munny though I really don't care for the job minigames which doesn't help.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong-Quest Edit: If we weren’t limited to sequels with 2 in the title, I’d say Super Smash Bros. Melee.
One of the greatest sequels ever. Improved on the original in every way.
And an absolutely incredible OST. I’ll still listen to it while doing house cleaning.
And still the best DKC game imo
*Diablo II*.
Took a while to find this.
God of War II
This is it. Such a massive improvement on the first game which was already badass. I played through that game so many times. The addition of Harry Hamlin as Perseus was amazing as someone who had grown up watching Clash of the Titans, i was pumped.

Age of Empires 2

Team Fortress 2

Evil within 2! One of my all time favorites
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Streets of Rage II
Streets of Rage 2 might be it for me
guitar hero 2
Metal Gear Solid 2 or Red Dead Redemption 2
Yup, two of the best sequels right here... I mean RDR2 is a prequel and MGS2 follows a completely different character, but I stand by what I said.
Alan Wake 2
Surprised it took this long to find this comment
Oh ya. Big time
All of them.
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
This should have more votes...
Last of Us 2 lived up and surpassed all of my expectations and was probably one of the few games I bought on release day (simply cuz I’m always behind in gaming). For old school games it would be MK2.
