I doubt many know what it was originally for, though. I admit, I used to know but no longer remember.

The 30 lives code in Contra wasn’t even the original use of the code. It was just what popularized it. Its first use was in Gradius, where it gave you a full set of power ups when you start the game.

It’s why I knew it. In the 2000s all I had to play at my grandparents house was a box of NES and like 3 SNES games. So I played a lot of Contra and my dad told me the code and it blew my mind.
