Eddie Murphy was 19 when he started on SNL
From age 21-27 he starred in,
48 Hrs.
Trading Places
Beverly Hills Cop
The Golden Child
Beverly Hills Cop II
Eddie Murphy: Raw
Coming To America
I think a lot of that had to do with SNL having a really bad cast at the time and his being the lone exception. They needed him front and center to keep the show relevant.
It was a weak cast and they did keep him front and center, but the reason he hosted in this particular instance was that Nick Nolte was too trashed to host. Nolte would have been promoting 48 Hours and Eddie was his co-star, so it made sense.
Eddie was also the first cast member to host the show while still on the show.
A guy came to SNL while Eddie was there to teach them all improv, and Eddie skipped it, saying “fuck him, I’m already funny.”
*Trading Places* was Eddie’s second movie. Ralph Bellamy had made 99 movies by that time. One of the first days of filming, Eddie pointed out “Between the two of us, we’ve been in a hundred movies!”
It means she couldn’t fail. She could take bigger risks and not worry about being homeless. Other people can’t afford acting and comedy classes all day when they have to put food on the table.
For what it's worth, she was fired partway through the season.
Still crazy that she was there in the first place. Kinda makes me wonder if nepotism was at play.
Ah! Julia Louis Dreyfus’s makes more sense, thanks!
(I however don’t seem to find that this was posted under a mention of JLD - but yes, someone (maybe me?) clearly confused the threads.)
He did an episode years ago that hosted Mick Foley and Marylyn Manson. It was oddest two people to be on the show together and Conan kept having this look like "Who fuck is in charge of booking!? Of fuck it's me, god why I am here!?"
That’s not true. I’ve talked to plenty of hot girls at parties. The problem is they don’t like it and try to get away like they’re Indiana Jones and I’m the boulder.
Consider yourself blessed then. I've heard some of the dumbest shit about astrology affecting test grades in college while dozens of bros just mindlessly agreed.
She had a reputation of dating comedians and Late Night hosts, she has dated Kimmel, Louis CK, David Cross. Conan is most likely her type, and he knows it.
She hit on my younger brother, and he was just a national news correspondent at Newsweek (actually not sure if that was his Dailybeast era, come to think of it). He's rarely without a gf, though.
I’m not sure how old she was, but watch her guest appearance of Star Trek Voyager. I instantly developed a crush on her upon viewing that episode for the first time lol
I think they call it “sit up,” where a comic is just performing their stand up act under the guise of a sit down interview, and the interviewer is in on it and tossing them the pre-planned set up questions. Used to be pretty common in late night TV.
Also, she was super young and probably very nervous, and Conan was still new at this, too. Recipe for a bomb of a segment.
Most Bill Burr interviews are sit ups. He is basically regurgitating his whole routine for that year in them. All his best stuff. Though the *standing on the heads of those little people* bit wasn't in anything that I'd ever seen, so it was likely off the cuff which is why it destroyed Conan so much. He wasn't in on that one. I imagine it was one of his bits, just one that didn't make the cut on the special. So it is an all time *watch conan lose it* scene for all of us instead.
For those that won't know it is the Bill Burr Oprah Winfrey Lance Armstrong [bit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9YL04v-J5U) .
Not her fault at all, Conan was just staring at her, hardly responding at all. It was a terrible interview, she was trying her damdest to get some support from anyone up there with her.
I never meant to imply that it was anyone’s fault. I was just saying that from my perspective the conversation flow was kind of awkward and that’s fine. I’m not a master linguistic and I’m sure I’ve had my fair share of absolutely awkward, uncomfortable conversations myself.
Yeah, imagine her *and* Seven of Nine on the series together.
The only thing that stopped it was Garrett Wang (Ensign Kim) was randomly called one of Hollywood's "sexiest man" by a magazine at the time, so they didn't fire him along with Jennifer Lien.
Is it weird that I recognized her from that and not anything else? Until this post I had no idea she was a anything other than a random person in a couple Voyager episodes lol
**EDIT:** dang getting downvoted for being a nerd unaware of celebrity comedians
Just because he plays it up and tries to make light of it, doesn't mean it's a bit. It means he's trying to soften it with humor. Ya'all are some naive people ITT.
It was a weird interjection though, because the original post had nothing to do with gender, but got an overly defensive response about dudes also bombing.
Wow, she carried that hard.
Conan always talks about how he and Andy had to carry a lot of guests, seems like he's just having a really good time here.
God she irritates me so much. I don't understand why she became a celebrity. She can't act and she isn't funny.
I just recently saw a two part episode of Star Trek: Voyager and she was in it. She was so awful that it Made the episodes a chore to watch.
Worst of all they had her playing a radio astronomer who was supposed to be intelligent. LOL
I think she has a unique funny style, but people like this shouldn't be in Star Trek. Like would I watch David Spade? Yes. Would I ruin my Star Trek with him? No.
How did she get on Conan at the age of 22?
She was on SNL for one season.
Can you imagine being on SNL by your early 20s?
Eddie Murphy was 19 when he started on SNL From age 21-27 he starred in, 48 Hrs. Trading Places Beverly Hills Cop The Golden Child Beverly Hills Cop II Eddie Murphy: Raw Coming To America
Wow, I never once thought about how old he was during any of that and just assumed all was in his 20’s-early 30’s.
Same! And then you look at the top tier hits right off the bat. It is such an incredible start to a career.
He started doing stand-up when he was 15.
Guess how old Tupac was when he died
And Biggie. Both 25.
You forgot Delirious, which was before Raw.
And he was either 21 or 22 when he recorded it (22 when it released).
Also, while he was a cast member of SNL, *he hosted SNL*. That’s an absurd amount of fame.

*Trading Places* was Eddie’s second movie. Ralph Bellamy had made 99 movies by that time. One of the first days of filming, Eddie pointed out “Between the two of us, we’ve been in a hundred movies!”
Yeah but Eddie is Eddie. Wtf did Silverman do?
He kind of fell off the map after like the mid 90s though. I wonder why
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was 21!
Can you imagine being on SNL by your early 20s?
No but I can imagine being on Julia Louis Dreyfus in her 20s
They're real and they're spectacular.
That was Teri Hatcher
Hiyoooo
Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a billionaire father, so that's a big advantage to getting on the show.
How the fuck so? Did her father's wealth make her funnier or something?
It means she couldn’t fail. She could take bigger risks and not worry about being homeless. Other people can’t afford acting and comedy classes all day when they have to put food on the table.
I can't imagine being on SNL.
Omg I just looked her up and she is 53 years old. She looks amazziiiiinnngggg.
It’s a lot easier to still look amazing in your 50s when you start out an absolute smoke show.
And money.
she's still an absolute smoke show
Look up her sister Laura. She's basically the Tony Rock of the Silverman family but was blessed by being the hit sister.
Same goes for Conan. He's a ginger fox.
He’s a rotting pumpkin!
'tis true
No kids, never married
Ah yes :)
Clever girl
I can't imagine being in my early 20s
imagine how Anthony Michael Hall felt doing it as a minor
> Can you imagine being on SNL by your early 20s? ALL the coke
For what it's worth, she was fired partway through the season. Still crazy that she was there in the first place. Kinda makes me wonder if nepotism was at play.
Why was she fired?
She had no grace
HAHAHAHAHA!
She stabbed Al Franken in the head with a pencil.
Really? What did he do?
Oh, he screamed
lol yeah… she comes from an insanely rich family Edit: thought I was in the JLD chain of comments
Source? Wiki says her mother was a photographer and her father a social worker
You might be confusing the threads. Julia Louis Dreyfuss is the daughter of a billionaire. I have no idea who Sarah Silverman's parents are.
Ah! Julia Louis Dreyfus’s makes more sense, thanks! (I however don’t seem to find that this was posted under a mention of JLD - but yes, someone (maybe me?) clearly confused the threads.)
Oh shit I got confused. The Julia Louis Dreyfus comments were right above this
Yes
She walked downstairs from SNL after Conan had a last minute opening
nobody of note wanted to be on this show at the time. look at conan in this video, even he is thinking "i shouldn't be here"
Look at Conan now and he's still thinking the same thing
now he says it out loud
He did an episode years ago that hosted Mick Foley and Marylyn Manson. It was oddest two people to be on the show together and Conan kept having this look like "Who fuck is in charge of booking!? Of fuck it's me, god why I am here!?"
Idk I'm pretty sure Conan is looking like he wants to get her in pants lol
This would have been sometime in the first few months of his first ever show so they probably weren't booking that many well known guests.
Yeah, they had some kid on whose whole shtick was saying "I didn't do it!"
Shame he didn't get to dance
Her grandmother was the Wicked witch in Wizard of OZ. She was kind of born into showbiz.
It's not exactly an uncommon thing.
connections bro....connections
nepotism probably
Her daddy's connections.
I dunno but I could only watch about 45 seconds of this. Awful.
Did not want to be a hater but it was awks. But like... who cares. It's Sarah Silverman.
This interview simulates "talking to the hot girl at a party" perfectly.
Bro this is Reddit. None of us can relate to this comment.
That’s not true. I’ve talked to plenty of hot girls at parties. The problem is they don’t like it and try to get away like they’re Indiana Jones and I’m the boulder.
This interview simulates "browsing /all" perfectly.
Ooooooh I get it now.
💀💀💀💀
Why you gotta call us all out like that?
Consider yourself blessed then. I've heard some of the dumbest shit about astrology affecting test grades in college while dozens of bros just mindlessly agreed.
Speak for yourself homie
It's crazy how much Conan is eyeing her up.
God they would have the most charismatic babies.
Conan has always been a flirt.
i would love to see her react to this clip now guarantee this is pure, straight to the veins, cringe, for her
Ask and ye shall receive. [Sarah looks back on her first appearance on Conan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJsHFFbUoxc)
This right here is why I love Reddit so much.

I appreciate the level of cynicism but it could just be a coincidence.
Hah! “I came up with a craft you can do with your phone”
Censorship in America is so fucking stupid. They just censored an image of a man's lips lol.
Or maybe cringe for how much Conan is checking her out.
I've thought ever since I was a kid that she is just absolutely gorgeous.
And she doesn't age.
Hair is on FIRE. That sheen under relatively harsh studio lighting.
Yep. Still do.
Her old nose was so much better.
Did she have a nose job or did someone punch her in the face like in *The Way of the Gun*?
Yeah, she got punched in the nose during *The Way of the Gun*.
Saying she got punched in the nose sounds so crass. What actually happened is she got her head fuck-started.
I’m not sure how old she was, but watch her guest appearance of Star Trek Voyager. I instantly developed a crush on her upon viewing that episode for the first time lol
Stimulating conversation...
Chuck Barris of Gong Show fame sitting on the couch beside her.
Nice of them to keep the camera on Sarah while he cut up his lines.
Rough crowd. No laughter for tap dancing at a club?
to be fair this really didn't feel like an interview and more of a setup for a standup routine. i personally found it uncomfortable
I think they call it “sit up,” where a comic is just performing their stand up act under the guise of a sit down interview, and the interviewer is in on it and tossing them the pre-planned set up questions. That bit is my favorite Bill Burr bit, he says every perfect word to make it 100x funnier. “The guy was a *SOCIOPATH* on a *BICYCLE*!”
I think he had a pretty small studio audience at the time too, just getting started? Either way, didn't really feel like a disaster, just awkward.
Yep. Also, how Conan doesn't even do an interview, he just pitches the prerehearsed setup lines to her bad 5 minutes that barely land.
Same, and I’ve really enjoyed her presence throughout the years, but this was uncomfortable for me to watch.
I don't think she's ever made me laugh.
Andy already looks so old. I have often thought he first showed up delivering the couch and just never left.
Loved her as Rain on Star Trek Voyager - Future's End S3 E8
I’ve read rumors there were plans to have her join the show. Could have been pretty interesting.
Yeah, imagine her *and* Seven of Nine on the series together. The only thing that stopped it was Garrett Wang (Ensign Kim) was randomly called one of Hollywood's "sexiest man" by a magazine at the time, so they didn't fire him along with Jennifer Lien.
her mannerism on conan is exactly same as Rain
Is it weird that I recognized her from that and not anything else? Until this post I had no idea she was a anything other than a random person in a couple Voyager episodes lol **EDIT:** dang getting downvoted for being a nerd unaware of celebrity comedians
Same for me. I had no idea that she was a fairly famous comedian until many years later.
Post the link? 🖖🏼
Peacock has all the trek.
and she was a total freakasaurus
I love Conan but I didn't realize how his stare was INCREDIBLY weird the younger he was.
love conan but he is a creepy looking guy. thankfully his personality does not seem to match and he seems like a great guy
Love Conan, but he creeps on every single attractive woman he's ever had on the show. He tries to hide it and it's subtle, but it's *always* there.
It’s a bit.
Just because he plays it up and tries to make light of it, doesn't mean it's a bit. It means he's trying to soften it with humor. Ya'all are some naive people ITT.
Just don't look up her history with black face or the N word.
Damn she was gorgeous
She hasn't got any less attractive IMHO
I'm only at the end of Season 3 so haven't seen it yet.
We can edit her out in post.
uncomfortable
We’ll be right back with Jamiroquai
i love sarah, but this is awful.
You know how many dudes went on Conan early as the final act and bombed?
no, i don’t, and i don’t care. this is about sarah silverman. in this particular instance. and it’s bad. any other questions?
Don’t be such an angry person mate
It was a weird interjection though, because the original post had nothing to do with gender, but got an overly defensive response about dudes also bombing.
You’re not going to discover much in life if you shut people down who try to engage in conversation.
This is just weird stand up. Conan probably new enough here where he went with the format instead of guiding the interview
So she's never been funny huh
That "I'm going to the BATHroom" is such an amazing deconstruction of comedy timing and patterns, I fucking lost it.
No clue she was on SNL
She looks and sound like a Friends character.
she gives me aubrey plaza vibes.
oh wow thats a good call
Sitting and talking like a twelve year old is mad weird.
This is Norm Macdonald.
Wow, she carried that hard. Conan always talks about how he and Andy had to carry a lot of guests, seems like he's just having a really good time here.
She's such a freakasaurus
I guess I’m the only one who thought this was genuinely funny
I mean shes rough, but she's trying. Reddit is a bunch of cunts who wouldn't know funny if it punched them in the stomach.
Might be a vile person but Conan handles it so well
It's so interesting to see Conan so rigid and frozen. You can tell this is well before he hit his stride as one of the best interviewers out there.
Love her 😂
The edge sharpening is ridiculous in this video.
When did she do the black face
She's insufferable
[удалено]
Horrible thing to say about a person.
That “I had a ball” joke was amazing. Love Sarah Silverman.
Jamirickwhy
new drinking game. Randomly choose any time in the video and if Sarah Silverman says "Yeah!" within 3 seconds, take a shot.
Tap and club are very different dances. In tap, you shake your feet. In club you shake that butt.
she has got an incredibly perfect timimg.
genocide denier
I don’t understand how she even get popular in the first place? I wanted to laugh and like her but she was so dang unfunny.

Such a horrible person
She is? I don't know much about her why so?
Because shes fucking Matt Damon.
She must like dem apples
why?
She handled it like a champ! Very awkwardly funny!!
She was so cute. Weird boobs tho.
LOL
That’s like one of the best voyager episodes.
How about the episode with Andy Dick?
I think she has a unique funny style, but people like this shouldn't be in Star Trek. Like would I watch David Spade? Yes. Would I ruin my Star Trek with him? No.
Pretty sure it was her first ever acting role.
