I recently grabbed this OG Pacific Jazz 10” - Chet Baker Sings for $1 https://preview.redd.it/xa83w86hcq8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d999c051bece6b618d0c2b30f1e1b4f7ad042e82

Berno_sour

God damn what a record. Congrats.

monkeys_like_weed

I saw this at a store for €500 damn

HerbTarlekWKRP

Seriously a dollar?!?!? Garage sale?

why-yes-hello-there

Nice find. Shoutout Ugly Cassanova too.

rread9

Computer World - Kraftwerk. Mint condition, $1 Also, the Australian box set of every Beatles LP, including an extra album of alternative versions, for $0. Guy was chucking out a pile of records and didn’t even look at them 🙃

GramercyPlace

Just saw them perform the whole album last month. They’re on a tour doing all their main records. Worth checking out! I’m not a skater but ended up buying a Tour de France skateboard. 🚴🇫🇷

icarus88888

I randomly bought a lycra cycling shirt myself when I saw them about 20 years ago - lol I was wiped out, it looked so awful in retrospect been in a drawer ever since.

gusdagrilla

Sticky Fingers by the Stones with the original big zipper and Naked City by John Zorn. Found them on the street so free I guess lmao

ChuckBlack

Nirvana Nevermind 1st pressing. Worked at a record store at the time so I picked it up for 40% of retail price whatever that was in the 90's.

Steven1600

Does it have Endless Nameless on it? I have the cd version and can't remember how many of them they made but my Nevermind vinyl doesn't have it.

edom31

That was a mistake... and I know who was to blame for it.

Steven1600

Who? I do remember Dave Grohl saying they did it to screw with people's multi disc carousel deals. 10mins of silence should do it lol

edom31

Wont say the name, but it is someone listed in the credits... just follow album-making signal flow, last person to touch it before it goes to the plant. A few weeks and quite some pressings later, they found out and revisited.

Steven1600

Aaaah makes sense. Glad I've kept the cd then

Meen_MrMustard

Everyone was buying the CD's and tapes like utter fools (myself included). Thats ok I have 2 now!

TheAngryOctopuss

Big Star #1 Record... $1... The ORIGINAL Aregent records Promos... 1 of 400 Pressed. The More You learn, the less You Know...

chicagoctopus

That’s a grail for me!!

TheAngryOctopuss

I loved finding it, But It Sells for $400 +. I sold it off and bought a Purple vinyl one from Target

Devolutionator

Second state Beatles butcher Y&T for $10. I wasn't sure what it was when I bought it as it was very early in my collecting.

ehollen1328

Same thing happened to me! I just grabbed it because it was the Beatles. Had no idea what it was.

XxDJ-DavidxX

Not counting free: $2 for a mint condition Original Master Recording of Days of Future Passed by the Moody Blues. Worth about $110. $4 for a mint condition error first press (true first press) of Specters by Blue Öyster Cult with the rare black inner sleeve also in mint condition. Worth around $50. Free: A near mint + no skips Robert Ludwig "RL Hotmix" original press of Led Zeppelin II with a mint condition cover and inner sleeve. I've seen worse condition ones sell for $300+. Probably worth close to $400. Absolutely insane and all thanks to my mom!

Rat-Soup-Eating-MF

a OG copy of Songs in the key of life with the booklet but minus the single. The vinyl was NM and the cover VG, cost me £0.25 i also picked up the one he does about plants for sale price (actually it was 4 for £0.99) but that’s struggling to be worth what i paid lol

CrazySmooth263

Oh. And here I was safe in my congratulation that I got pretty same condition OG for £15.99 at Oxfam. But it did have the 7”…

Rat-Soup-Eating-MF

16 quid is good for one with the single included - with the added bonus that no matter what you pay that album is worth every penny!

Remarkable_Signal_78

Nirvana - Bleach original pressing radio station cut out promo for 10$ back in 2003. It has the radio station call letter written with a sharpie and ‘hardcore’ written on top. I like it because it is the their first message in a bottle they sent out to stations. The sleeve is beat up a little bit but the record is in great shape

HerbTarlekWKRP

That message makes this all the sweeter

ganonkenobi

Miles Davis Kind of Blue - stereo white label promo. $0.00

HerbTarlekWKRP

I’ll triple what you paid for it!

jessop-bentine

Seeds-Web of Sound (Mono) for a dollar at a charity shop (also loads of other 60s psych in the crate I bought but that was the best.) My hands started trembling when I saw that!!

HollyweirdRonnie

That’s sick. I got a mint in shrink original Seeds debut LP at a yard sale in May, but I gave the lady $20 for it. No complaints. I need “Web of Sound”!

mattmccauslin

Man, I got their original album from a yard sale too for next to nothing. The people having the yard sale were selling their father’s old records. He worked as a DJ for a radio station in the 80s and I paid $20 for a box of mostly garbage, but it had that album as is.

thisismytrip

Dr. Dog - Easy Beat In the used bin for $18. Saw it was worth around $80 when I got home. Now I could easily get over $100.

TheEdFather

Megadeth - So Far, So Good, So What? for 10$ Record itself is in mint shape, it was so cheap because the sleeve was damaged on the back so the seller didn't want to charge too much for it. I guess at a party back in the 90s, the original owner had spilled Rum & Coke on a stack of records and that resulted in damaged sleeves.

auralcoral

J.R. Monterose, mono deep-groove, $1

Phoen3tix

I’ve been trying to get an original for years, but to no avail! Almost pulled the trigger on a G copy without a cover, but they wanted $200…

DigitalArtAuthor

$10 for a Robert Ludwig press of Led Zeppelin II.

the_comatorium

I sold one once in my $3 because I missed the RL. Customer actually notified me about it and I told him to enjoy it.

Buffalo5977

jesus

chupathingy99

I got one of those from my dad. I guess you couldn't really call it a score because it's technically an inheritance.

HerbTarlekWKRP

Look 2 comments above yours ^^

HollyweirdRonnie

Can’t go wrong with free

DonCallate

I've gotten lots of free records including 2 whole collections of rarities, but the best purchase ever was a thrift store find original pressing of John Coltrane's *My Favorite Things* for US.80c. Got it home and found that there was an original copy of Johnny Cash *Live at Folsom Prison* attached to it for some reason.

coffee_robot_horse

PatrickAbb

A mint condition second hand copy of The Stranger by Billy Joel in a bargain bin for €8

chicagoctopus

money_floyd13

Easily was Supertramp - Crime of the Century, 1999 Speakers Corner German repressing. Found it for $15 at a record store, had no idea its value I just wanted to listen to School on vinyl. That store for sure did not know what they had. I sold it a year or so after, I cannot believe how much it’s worth now - $400 CDN.

BrknTrnsmsn

Found this one in a record store in Vermont on RSD for $8.99 with my student discount. Paul had instructed stores to sneak these copies in with his normal discography as a surprise to fans. I don't think I'll ever be so lucky ever again! https://preview.redd.it/o5rnhy7kpr8d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db77c426904401004173ddb89f2090d334f674e0

Herbie Hancock - Secrets ($8) Grateful Dead - Anthem of the Sun ($5)

magnumchaos

Dude... I got a first pressing Sgt. Peppers, mint, for $1 at a yard sale a few years ago. Couldn't pass that up.

hotsundae43

I snagged a copy of Tori Amos’ “From the Choirgirl Hotel” years ago from a vinyl store in Ann Arbor for $15. It’s now highly sought after since she never reissued it, and Tori fans are currently paying $300-$400 for it.

Rings_into_Clouds

When I had my own store I would buy records in bulk from folks. Generally it was older folks that were moving, or kids trying to get rid of their parents stuff. The majority of times I'd spend like $100 and take whatever the lot was. Usually it was mostly just shit that wasn't worth selling, but there were definitely some gems. I remember a lot that had hundreds of rare 60's garage/psych albums. Galdalf, Druids of Stonehenge, Southwest FOB original pressings.

HollyweirdRonnie

> Gandalf Damn!! 😳

CoconutWrong6098

Rocky Horror Limited Edition Picture disc, signed by Tim Curry, #124 for $25 in a 2nd hand store. Complete Symphonies of Mozart, $10

WalkRightNow

Probably my copy of the Christmas Album by the Jackson 5, the cheapest I ever see it is at least £25-30 on discogs, and this is sealed, and from 1982, so idk what this seller was thinking putting it up for £10, it hasn't been touched, so I consider myself lucky

HollyweirdRonnie

https://preview.redd.it/jkaqt2cxwq8d1.jpeg?width=2182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b12e7b402eb20ab44ac5a0644e2d8c1e69a3700 Got this 1965 Canadian garage rock ripper in an auction lot which worked out to around 50 cents a record.

karlware

An original Pistols Spunk bootleg for £1 as the record shop didn't know what it was.

frenchosaka

Before it was reissued.. I got first edition Songs for Cleaning Guppies, by Chis Knox at a Japanese used record store. I think I paid 1500 yen for it and sold it for over $300 a few years later. It had only 300 pressings at the time and I had one of them that the cover was hand made and signed by the artist himself. Never thought I would find such a limited pressing in a used record shop in Japan.

Swanswhatswans

I’ve been hunting for this for my little sister! That’s a pretty awesome find!

connorjohnson777

I recently just bought an original 1st pressing of 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul on a bid on Ebay for about 40$. It's one of my favorite albums of all time, and I would've spent hundreds on it, but getting it for $40 was pretty awesome.

Every Depeche Mode album from SPEAK & SPELL through MUSIC FOR THE MASSES including most of the corresponding 12" singles, all for free because my uncle had passed and no one else in the family was a Depeche Mode fan. That was 1990 and I only got a record player in October of 2023. They all still sound perfect.

Craftermax_HD

Human league - Hysteria Good condition for 2$

Mndudeee

I got a 67 sgt pepper for 20$

Zendomanium

Interesting story. Years ago when the electronic music genre called Vaporwave was huge, it generated an off-shoot called Dreampunk. At the time, the record to get was Birth Of a New Day by 2814: everyone wanted it, few had it, so naturally it was really quite expensive. I joined Reddit - which I was new to - to join the Dreampunk subreddit & discuss the album. Eventually someone offered to sell me their copy. I was extremely hesitant and explained I had never bought a record online from a complete stranger, so I appreciated the offer, but had to decline. He spoke for a while and he decided to just send me the album for free on the condition I don't flip it. I gave him my address and assurance I'd keep it. Within a few days it arrived in a mailer decked out with Vaporwave stickers and included a wonderful note. It's a great album and I still have it. This is probably the 'coolest' record story I will ever be able to tell. :)

American Pie for 9 bucks. Not a rare version or anything, but the cover is in fairly good condition and the vinyl plays super well.

FarGrape1953

I got a copy of Judas Priest - Jugulator on vinyl for around 50 bucks in 2009. It's worth about 400 now. I just wanted it on vinyl for some reason.

Effective-Meat2197

I found a copy of Pet Sounds in the dollar bin of my local record store. No scratches just dusty, cleaned it and it plays perfectly.

[deleted]

Got all of Stevie Wonder’s golden period albums, in near mint condition, for $10 on EBay. Similarly with some Beatles, zeppelin, and Dylan records

Meander86

Neighbors adult children were clearing out their late parents house, told me they had a huge record collection, and let me have first picks. I got 5 crates of classics and things I didn’t already have in my collection. Stand outs were some first pressing velvet undergrounds, and my favorite find was a UK pressing of Rolling Stones Aftermath signed by Bill Wyman

drugswontchangeyou

got a pretty big list of "best bargains". but got a good feeling plenty here would not believe me.

ongoingbox

I got the Johann Sebastian Bach - Henryk Szeryng – 6 Sonaten Und Partiten Für Violine Solo BWV 1001-1006 3xLP set for $10. Not a massive deal, but it can go for around $40-80, depending on location. It's a beautiful recording.

Swanswhatswans

I *criminally underpaid* for an OG UK copy of Still Life on Vertigo from 71, a 72 UK Island pink rim copy of Nick Drake’s Five Leaves Left, and an OG UK copy of A Toast To Panama Red by Masters Apprentices. I live in the middle of the USA so I always get excited to see UK pressings…especially when the seller isn’t aware of their full value.

serpentineminer

One buck for the creation of sunlight lp

ehollen1328

I once found a second state butchers album for 1$ at a record sale. I’d just gotten into collecting and had no idea what it was - just grabbed it because, it’s the Beatles. Started doing research a half year later and figured out what it was.

Huge-Name-1999

I got a copy of "a hard days night" for €1, I essentially convinced the record store salesman that there's no guarantee it would play since it had a massive ring around it. Took it home. Threw it on, works 100%, absolutely no audible damage. I still feel like I robbed the place XD

A sealed OG Rain Dogs by Tom Waits from my neighbor for a case of beer that my grandpa brewed.

dgpmusic

OG press of Pavement’s Terror Twilight and Westing (still sealed) in a Goodwill bin for $2 each

Backtrax-amazon

Your sgt. pepper pic reminded me of a great flea market pick, I was out hunting and it was not going well, I had bought a bunch of cds for the business, but no vinyl, I was heading for the door and spot a small pile of vinyl, pepper was the 2nd down, I think do I really need it already own a nice copy, then I realize I had burned through my cash anyway, I head for the car and drive away, and it’s nagging at me, and nagging, dude get some cash and go back, it will be long gone, what’s the point, I stop get the coin and head back, quickly i walk back to that dealer, wow still here, what’s wrong with it ? I give it a better look , Big dummy almost lost an original press Mono near mint vinyl and the insert, VG+ Cover, Not bad for a buck,,,

Apprehensive-Disk314

I received a promo of David Lee jr evolution for free. Buddy got a stack of records for free, asked if I wanted any. I had no idea who he was just grabbed it because the artwork was cool. After realizing how valuable it was, I ended up selling and split the cash with my friend.

HollyweirdRonnie

Nice.

ScabieBaby

I used to frequent a flea market in Vineland, NJ to get records. I befriended a guy there that knew more about psych and garage records than anyone I've met before or since. He'd display a few gems for higher prices ($40-$80) and the rest of his stuff was all in crates. I'd buy one of the higher value records and then he'd just throw in multiple records to sweeten the deal. He once threw in a free copy of *Boom* by The Sonics because I spent $20 on a Judas Priest record.

HollyweirdRonnie

Wow. That’s amazing

H4roldas

https://preview.redd.it/21ionm1lpq8d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=71e55a261b80b5f693ab1a832d192bf48cc221de £0.50 quite insane.

Brootal_Troof

Voivod's 3rd and 4th albums for fifty cents each, during a time when people were tossing out their vinyl for CDs.

HollyweirdRonnie

Score! One of Canada’s finest

Brootal_Troof

They were the first band I saw coming out of the pandemic and blew my face off. I was ten feet away on a Sunday night. It felt like a gift. Nice guys, too!

JoeyJojos_Wacky_Trip

I got a copy of Velvet Underground and Nico with most of the banana sticker still on it for under $1, it was at a Goodwill that just had things thrown into bins. The record was in one bin, the sleeve in another. Hell the sleeve alone would have been worth it.

RevolutionNine

Butcher cover, M condition. $20.

Hava_cold_one

Original press of Pink Floyd The Wall for $15.

AffectionateLunch775

Og 1st pressing of The Wall for $1 at goodwill. Records completely new and unplayed, sleeve has some water damage but didn’t soak all the way. Really only 1 of 5-6 records I’ve found at goodwill but def the best

Apple-14

I wish I got deals like this more often, super happy you could get a deal like this! The biggest deal I ever got was when my aunt's friend gave away a ton of old Brazilian records for free, some of which where worth hundreds! Not selling them but yk

NobodyCarrots6969

Some of the first albums I bought were OG Evil Empire, Either/Or, and OK computer copies for 15-20 dollars each. I didn't even know what I had at the time, but later would come to realize they're worth 80-120 each. Of course I'll never sell them. More recently, I bought a "scratched and dinged" All things must pass for 8 bucks. It isn't the prettiest copy, but it plays perfect and should be worth more

Salty-Rock7511

I definitely would like to find a cheap OK Computer somewhere 😂

NobodyCarrots6969

Yeah it was a great find. It took both a person and a store not knowing what they had for me to get that deal. I feel like every store is on discogs these days, so this kind of find is getting increasingly rare

Similar-West5208

i got a retail copy of "sleep token - this place will become your tomb" in march and now it looks like they are out of stock because discogs only has 7 copies starting at 70€ (special editions triple digits) and no retailer got them left aswell.

StevelKnievel66

Bought a mint copy of Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti from a charity shop for £6. I picked up an excellent copy of Hounds of Love for £3 at the same time too. This was probably 15 years ago, but they were still great bargains at the time. Still got em, still play em, they both still sound fantastic

PattyIceNY

Disraeli Gears, Cream, original US pressing for 24 bucks, near flawless copy.

JonCeini

Chris Cornell - Songbook - 2011 release mint paid 35$

HollyweirdRonnie

Original copy of Mort Garson Plantasia on Homewood in fantastic condition, with booklet, no Simmons sticker. Thrift store, $1

LiLohan

The best bargain for me was probably a copy of Tom Waits Rain Dogs before the recent remaster for $8.99. I just happened to be at Bull Moose when they were putting out a recent trade-in and they had it priced as generic "used vinyl" instead of my title.

your_message_here

I found an OG sealed 1999 Ben Folds Five - The Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Messner on Discogs back in 2020 for $30 shipped. Here are the stats now: Last sold on Jun 07, 2024 $93.98 Average, $82.50 Median, $161.29 High, $50.00 Low. My friend recently found a Misfits Walk Among Us OG Sealed for $6, it's worth $400-600

ShaggyLR76

The Smiths’ Strangeways, at a church jumble sale, $0.25. This was in about 1998 though.

InternationalAct4182

Kali Uchis - to feel alive rsd 40 quid, now 378 to 600 .

lackofself2000

Bought a Paramore picture disc single from Hot Topic during a sale back in 2009. Paid maybe $5. Just sold it recently for $90.

Acrobatic-Expert-507

MCIS #16xxx for $160 about 2 years ago. It was framed and the guy wanted to make sure I knew how much he paid to have it framed. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him that the frame would be in the trash in a few hours. Seems fitting my favorite album of all time is my best score.

AlbPerNil

the one I got today on White Pony by Deftones.

Rare_Following_8279

About 10 Bowies and 5 Enos, free in an alley. Among a bunch of other stuff. Took what I could and went back and the rest were gone

TheAngryOctopuss

AnonymousDickhead1

My dad got Port royal by Running wild for 10$ back in the day and recently got raw sienna by savoy brown for 4$

robcollier

Def Leppard Hysteria £2

Jojoman64

I got a 1st UK Abbey Road for $8 and a 1st US press of the Velvet Underground’s Self Titled album for $5. Neither are in stellar condition but both play without skipping and the covers are really nice so I can’t complain

welivedintheocean

Amazon had Mellon Collie on sale for like $11 and I snagged that.

Themostguyfulguy

Back in the day I got a 17 dollar numbered white album

vinylontubes

I bought a of records in the early '90s and late '80s when they were being closed out to make room for CDs. This was a response to CD longboxes being discontinued meaning CDs could no longer fit into LP size bins. Many were $2. Some were a little more expensive, MoFi Sgt. Pepper was $8. All brand new. I doubled the amount of records I had probably spending about $200 total. I'd go there everyweek after I got paid.

The doors self titled a buck works fine. Have no idea what pressing it is

CrazySmooth263

Mint edition of Micah P Hanson and the Opera Circuit LP… 50p at a charity shop in Guildford. Currently going for median £50 on discogs

jamie-cakess

abbey road for 10 bucks at a shop in southern Oregon. pretty good when most shops mark beatles stuff up at 25 or higher

TheRegularPikachu

Funny you posted this today. Received [Voices - London](https://www.discogs.com/release/16520853-Voices-London) in the mail today, got it for 39 SEK/€3.50/£3/$3.70. Probably my best bargain, at least from the ones I can think of

Marshmallow_man

In my area theres a well known flea market called the Swap Shop. on Wednesdays and Sudnays vendors egt in for free, but customers pay like $1, so people come in selling the wildest shit. like sometimes just a guy and he has like 6 pairs of ratty shoes and a bicycle. but sometimes you find old video games sytems, etc. i found a selaed copy of the gorillaz Singles Collection. though the plastic was ripped and a corner was dinged. i got it for $5. absolute fucking steal. ive also bought an old sony linear tracking turntable there once for like $25 that i gave to a buddy as a birthday gift.

May4747

Bob Dylan- desire new and sealed for $8

powerofcheeze

Faith No More. The real thing. Near mint Australian pressing. 40 bucks. Not a crazy deal but I thought it was pretty freaking good

Brettwon

A coworker of my mom’s gave me a box of LPs, it had 3 Led Zeppelin, a Bob Dylan, a Richard Pryor, a Cheech and Chong, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Cheap Trick, Cactus, Mountain, The Kinks,

junkronomicon

First press Cookin’ with Miles Davis at a garage sale bin for $2 in VG+. It’s also the most valuable record in my collection. I ran out of there like I stole something.

Your_Product_Here

I've gotten a lot of first-rate jazz for well under the going rate but the best ones: First mono press of Coltrane's A Love Supreme for 40$ (probably worth \~$3-400) and My Favorite Things first press for 10$. Mingus's The Clown first press for 10$. My most exciting one was Neighb'rhood Childr'n at a record show for 15$. I didn't get around to this table until the end of the show and nobody pulled out the psych rarity all day. It was waiting for me.

RevolutionaryRowen

I found the Dark Side of the moon for $1.95 at the salvation army. It was in a sleeve for the best of the Doobie Brothers and when I got home and pulled it out I was pleasantly surprised with DSOTM.

kr31szahl

a few minutes ago two OG Ohr tangerin dream for 8€ each and a while ago a OG Kraftwerk Autobahn for 3€

TonyTheSwisher

I once found a copy of Eminem's Infinite on cassette for $15 and Eminem's Slim Shady EP on CD for $10. This was after MMLP came out and when Eminem was the most popular artist in the world. I sold them for $400 and $1200 respectively in the late 2000s and regretted it so much that I ended up buying a signed Infinite Tape from someone else. Still trying to replace the SSEP CD which is now a pain because of all the bootlegs.

Forza_Harrd

The one in the picture. I bought a copy of Beatles ‘65 from a seller on Amazon. The description said it was stereo and had writing on the cover. It arrived as described but the cover said stereo, the disc was mono. Which I prefer anyway. So the seller threw in a free mono copy of Sergeant Pepper. Cover is in bad condition but the disc sounds great with visible scratches but very little noise. Literally my favorite record and it was free.

kennyguy4

Bought a purple 'The Drug in Me is You' by Falling in Reverse from discogs for about £20 when the average price was around $50. Current average price is $143 and lowest one on sale is $225

coffeewatchjunkie

To this day, the best deal I got was on an original RL press of Zeppelin II... for $30. The sleeve is in Good condition, but the vinyl is NM and still sounds absolutely insane. I'll add this since I saw someone else mention it too. Songs in the key of life, original press, with booklet. Didn't have the 45, but the shop owner said "hang on a second," and rummaged around the loose 45 section and pulled it out. All for $9. Plays great.

xat4012

In Rainbows box set MPO press for 125$ w shipping. Now it's 202$ w/o shipping on discogs. Low Roar - Once In A Long Long While Grey Galaxy for 91$ w shipping. No copies been sold since march and the median on discogs is around 150$.

Fishtaco1234

It’s crazy to think that was just the price 10 years ago. Everything was under $10. I’m stepping away from the game

supreme_glassez

I don't know what's considered a bargain because I don't know how much some of my records are worth otherwise. I definitely didn't pay as little as $1 for them. Most of mine are new when I buy them, with a few exceptions.

Meen_MrMustard

Nirvana Nevermind 1st US pressing - 100 dollars. (pre-COVID)
