Hi. I got a brand new ion Air LP Bluetooth record player, along with 4 brand new vinyl records, and the audio is really bad. I haven’t tried to replace or clean any parts because everything is brand new, so that might be a problem, but is there any common problems that might be happening? Or should I just buy a new needle and get some cleaning material? Thanks in advance!

sharkamino

What speaker(s) do you have connected to it? Does that speaker(s) sound good with other audio sources?

Ya_Boi_Is

I have it connected to an Amazon Alexa, which sounds really good connected to my iPhone or computer

sharkamino

You followed all of the setup instructions? Maybe a damaged stylus however that type of turntable with the [$5 mechanism](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXV8tXrPOR4) that is the same as in a suitcase or all in one have rather low sound quality. A better decent starter [turntable starting at $139](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/kql9u7/turntables_and_speakers/) and up will have the white AT diamond tip stylus and then an MM cartridge and an RIAA phono stage preamp. Alexa Echo Studio or the medium size Echo or the tiny Echo Dot?

Ya_Boi_Is

The medium one. I’ll check the instructions again to see if I missed anything. Thank you so much

bigfatrog

Hello. I would like to request help finding a turntable on Craigslist, belt-driven or direct-drive, budget of $100-$200, Baltimore, MD please. I want to upgrade from an Audio Technica LP60. I would like to be able to change the cartridge and stylus, counterweight, antiskate and have an up down lever. I would prefer to have a built in preamp to save some money on the overall set up. I'm not experienced enough to do major repairs on a turntable however. Thank you!

sharkamino

Vintage 60's, 70's 80's won't have a built in phono stage preamp. Phono stage preamp outside of the turntable is often preferred anyways for isolation and the many better external choices available.

sharkamino

What are your amplification and speakers? If those are basic entry level then upgrade them for the most improvement in sound quality. I don't see anything good used near you at the moment. New turntables: * [Fluance RT82](https://www.fluance.com/rt82t-reference-high-fidelity-vinyl-turntable-black-gloss) $299 adds auto stop and then an optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation. Pass on the older RT80 and RT81 that lack the new speed sensor. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. More turntables with the same speed sensor, basic built in phono stage preamp, no auto stop: * [Monolith by Monoprice Turntable with AT3600](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600045) $199 available in February costs $80 less than the similar AT-LPW30TK. * [Monolith by Monoprice Turntable with ATVM95E](https://www.monoprice.com/search/index?keyword=Monolith+by+Monoprice+Turntable+with+Audio-Technica+AT-VM95E+) $249 available in February costs $80 less than the similar AT-LPW40WN. Does she have an audio interface for digitizing music? If not and the turntable does not have USB output you can get a phono stage preamp with USB output. A [Behringer U-Phono](https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Phono-UFO202-Audiophile-Interface/dp/B002GHBYZ0/) is a low cost option. Best new turntable for $200 with USB output is the [**Monolith by Monoprice Turntable with AT3600**](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600045) $199 that costs $100 less than the similar AT-LPW30TK and has the same speed sensor motor as the $300 Fluance RT82. However it is not available until February so you could gift her an album with a printout of the turntable saying it arrives is February. The automatic AT-LP3 adds adjustable tracking force and a removable cartridge over the AT-LP60X but has the same motor. Music Hall USB-1 is ok however it lacks the speed sensor of the Monolith. [Victrola VPRO-2000](https://www.amazon.com/Victrola-Record-Player-2-Speed-Turntable/dp/B07JVK44M9) may be almost as good for $50 less than the Music Hall. The Fluance RT80 is ok however it lacks the speed sensor that the Monolith and Fluance RT82 and up have. U-turn Orbit like the AT-LP60X lacks user adjustable anti-skate and the the cue lever costs $40 extra but can be added later. The built in phono stage preamp is $70 or external is $90 start with the [Behringer U-Phono](https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Phono-UFO202-Audiophile-Interface/dp/B002GHBYZ0/) for $9 and it has USB output.

The Monolith seems to be a new release turntable so it may not have even been unloaded off the ship yet. If you did want a DJ turntable: Beginner DJ turntables with reverse playback and high torque motor are the AT-LP140X or Pioneer PLX-500 or Reloop. Or buy used * [https://djtechtools.com/2016/02/15/2016-dj-turntables-buying-guide-dmc-world-champion/](https://djtechtools.com/2016/02/15/2016-dj-turntables-buying-guide-dmc-world-champion/) * [https://www.reddit.com/r/DJs/comments/43p7hq/vekkeds\_ultimate\_turntable\_buyers\_guide\_review/](https://www.reddit.com/r/DJs/comments/43p7hq/vekkeds_ultimate_turntable_buyers_guide_review/) r/Beatmatch for DJ stuff.

It if sounds the same as before it should be fine. A foam mat? Which model turntable?

PaNdaRat0r666

Can anyone recommend an amp worth looking at? I've got an AT LP3 and due to circumstances, I exclusively listen to music via headphones. I've got a fiio ek10 amp but doesn't provide connection for the RCA cables. Would it be sufficient enough to get a female RCA to 3.5 to go from my record player into the amp of which my headphones ( HDR 165 / HD25 )

sharkamino

[JDS Labs Atom](https://jdslabs.com/product/atom-amp/) has a 2 input switch and 2 gain settings, [Liquid Spark](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33304) or [Schiit Magni](https://www.schiit.com/products/magni-1). [Monoprice](https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-111567-Desktop-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00KVVX2QW/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Sabaj+Audio+PHA2&qid=1618360914&sr=8-1) adds a switch to a USB input DAC to use with your computer. Low cost [Douk Audio](https://www.amazon.com/Douk-Audio-Headphone-Amplifier-Desktop/dp/B08C2MKBGN) lacks RCA preouts on the back if you need that to continue on to powered speakers or an amp or receiver and passive speakers. Also ask r/HeadphoneAdvice and browse r/headphones.

TheBlueVU

The E10K is a digital only amp, it will not work with an analogue source regardless of any cable combination. Your turntable does have a phono pre-amp built-in so you are good in that department. You will probably get better advice over at /r/headphones for the amp, the turntable has line level output so it is no different than using any other analogue component (CD, phone, etc).

sharkamino

Best to use r/HeadphoneAdvice. Over at r/headphones questions will be removed same as here at r/vinyl.

nicolesey

Hi fellow vinyl masters, I got a question regarding vinyl storage. It’s a fact that stacking vinyl flat on top of each other is bad. But how is it different compared to leaning them on one another? Thanks!

sharkamino

Store vertically, not leaning or heavily angled or more than a few stacked. [how+to+store+records](https://www.google.com/search?&q=how+to+store+records)

TheBlueVU

Do not lean, that is the worst option and pretty much guaranteed to eventually warp.

Svinhood

Hi, so I just got my first player from my grandma, an Philips FCD 858 with two speakers (Philips LSB387) and the sound quality is quite poor. Since I'm new to all of this, I wonder if anyone could give me some guidelines to where I should start troubleshooting? Thanks!

sharkamino

Does the stereo sound better with other audio sources besides the turntable?

Svinhood

I don't know sadly, and I have no other equipment to check that out

TheBlueVU

You'll need to describe the "quite poor" sound quality in order to troubleshoot. Is it slow, quiet, sound like its in a hallway, buzzing, feedback, plastic box syndrome, tinny, etc? The system isn't going to be good regardless as it's a pretty cheap one. That said something as simple as cleaning or replacing the stylus may make a world of difference.

Svinhood

It's sounds hollow/flat, I guess would be my best way to desctibe it. But yeah, I was afraid it might be because of the lower price tag on it. Thanks, I'll try that before I start looking for anything else!

dazzlinreddress

Can someone help me please? I have folklore by Taylor Swift and it keeps clicking despite me after cleaning it. Is it just a bad pressing or could there be some other problem?

sharkamino

Which model turntable? All of your other records play well?

dazzlinreddress

Audio Technica LP120. Yeah I tested out another one of them and it sounded fine.

nicolesey

Which edition is it? I don’t have one but I read on discogs that a lot of users having the same problem as yours and bad pressing with the limited editions (with the different 8 covers). The repress one released this year (with the beige-colored vinyl) is the best so far.

dazzlinreddress

It's the deluxe edition.

nicolesey

Most of the limited editions have the bonus track too, fyi. I suggest you check your version on Discogs first, read what the others are saying about it. If it’s not a pressing issue, then try cleaning your record and see if that solves the problem.

dazzlinreddress

How do I know which version it is?

nicolesey

Send me a pic of the vinyl, the front cover and the barcode. I’ll pass the link to you.

dazzlinreddress

Ok

Any good recommendations for record cleaning solutions? It's time for me to get a good general clean to my record collection, and frankly, I feel overwhelmed with the variety of different cleaning solutions available. Generally I use an Ortofon record brush and/or an antistatic wipe. I was looking at Protected https://protected.de/en/care-products since they are German and the shipping is cheap, fast and reliable to my home but I can't decide which one of the cleaning sets is better or has a good price/quality ratio. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays!

sharkamino

[Wet soak record cleaning](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/jpac5p/diy_wet_soak_vinyl_cleaning/)

TheBlueVU

Any of the spin-clean knock offs is what you are looking for (or an original if you can source one). Check /u/sharkamino link for cleaning advice [here](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/jpac5p/diy_wet_soak_vinyl_cleaning)

Anthony319

I've been using the 2M Blue since October. Recently, I've been having dust problems, specifically on my stylus. The Ortofon stylus brush works well in most cases. But sometimes, dust can get very stuck on the stylus, and using the brush is completely useless. For example, right now my stylus is covered in a ball of dust and the audio of course sounds very muddy. I almost think my stylus is damaged. What do y'all suggest I do that doesn't involve me buying a cleaning product? Buying an Onzow is my last resort.

sharkamino

[Wet record cleaning](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/jpac5p/diy_wet_soak_vinyl_cleaning/) to clean out the grooves, air dry, then place in new anti-static inner sleeves. Dry brushing is mostly just surface dusting and just do that if any dust falls on the record while it is out of its sleeve. [Stylus brush cleaning](https://www.turntableneedles.com/assets/images/stylus_Clean_Instructions.jpg) Alternative to a gel stylus cleaner is dabbing onto a [magic eraser](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=magic+eraser&ref=nb_sb_noss_2). I don't know how well either will remove a big ball of dust or fibers.

TheBlueVU

Are you using the brush dry or with a cleaning solution? Also if you are only going back to front all the time you may have some longer fibers that will require you to very carefully do some up/down motions on the side to dislodge whatever is wound up on it.

Anthony319

Yeah ive been doing it dry. And yeah ive done some up and down motions on it. I've must've brushed it like a hundred times by now and it still looks like it walked through a desert. Brushing it up and down has worked in the past, but this is a tougher case.

TheBlueVU

You'll need to get some cleaning solution, just be sure to get quality as your stylus is glued onto the cantilever mount and some solutions will break down that bond. Use a trusted brand name, not some chinese knock-off from amazon/

Anthony319

Alrighty then. Which one do you recommend me buying? I've looked at dozens of products on Amazon for record cleaning and they always have their own short comings. I think the Onzow might be the best choice. It's pricey, and I know its gonna have get replaced eventually, but I think it's my only choice. What do you think?

averaborman

Hi! I am new to the vinyl collector world and I have a question to ask. I was searching for MCR’s the black parade LP and I came across two stores online that sell the same edition with but has pretty far price range. I haven’t had any experience buying from both stores, but the more expensive one (around 55 dollars) is located in my city while the cheaper one (around 33 dollars) located in other city. Both of them have good reviews but I just want to know what kind of things that could result in the wide range of price, even though both of them are in the same edition (both are new and factory sealed). Thank you!

TheBlueVU

Record stores aren't held to a MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price) and can set prices arbitrarily. It could also be that they aren't actually the same edition, one could be a rarer color variant.

global_disapointment

I recently got a crosley voyager record player for Christmas (Not my decision), my brother broke the stylus and so we ordered some new ones. Different ones? I know that they call Crosley turntables "record killers" but if I change my stylus, does that make it better?

AcanthocephalaNo6036

AFAIK, it will make it *slightly* better. The problem with Crosleys it's not only the stylus, but the lack of a good tonearm, with counterweight and anti-skating systems. More so, the biggest problem with "Depot store turntables" is that they apply way too much weight on the record, thus carving the groove more than it should be necessary. So, if you change your stylus maybe you get a slight difference in sound quality (but if you're using the integrated speakers it's most probably more or less the same) but you will be carving your records anyway. One cheap but totally unreliable solution is to put a coin (in Europe I used a 1 or 2 cent coin) in the rear part of the tonearm so it acts as a "counterweight" but, again, this is a complete botch and the best way to take care of your records on the long run (and vastly improve your sound quality) is to get a decent entry-level turntable or a good one on the second hand market.

global_disapointment

Do you happen to have any recommendations that don't happen to be over 200 dollars? Or is it one of those things where I can't get a good one without paying qn arm and a leg.

sharkamino

[Turntables and speakers](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/kql9u7/turntables_and_speakers/) starting at $139 and $149.

AcanthocephalaNo6036

AT-LP60x is definitely under 150€ (last time I checked for a friend was about 100€), and it's the cheapest decent turntable you can get new. The other option could be checking on the second hand market for a decent turntable for that price, but if you wanna go safe mode I'd pick the AT. You'll need either active speakers (they are plugged to the house electric system, no need for a preamp), passive speakers (they need the amplified signal coming from a preamp, they are not plugged into the house electric system) or active + preamp.

ForsakenBovine

I am super confused, got my first turntable for Christmas, which has an included preamp, as well as a pair of Klipsch R-41M passive speakers. I went to go plug them in and yay, turns out I need an amp. But do I need an amp or a receiver? I intend to just use this to play some Beatles and stuff and I don't want anything huge as the plan is to put it on a shelf. Everywhere I look says I need a receiver and not an amp but I want to use these speakers only to listen to vinyl. Right now I'm thinking a budget amp and not a receiver but before I buy anything I want to know for sure if I need a receiver or an amp as I really can't make heads or tails of any of this.

sharkamino

1. Which model turntable? 2. What is your budget? 3. For the best value what is a Craigslist or nearby zip code to search for used options? ForsakenBovine

I actually bought that exact Fosi! The turntable I got was a U-Turn Orbit with a preamp (all basic besides that, I guess my mother thought a preamp was an amp, and I did too until yesterday!) The Orbit came with RCA cables and I ordered some insulated speaker wire with banana clips already on the end after making sure they were compatible so hopefully it works out, thanks for the help.

sharkamino

Great! Let me know if you have any setup questions when you get everything. If the Orbit does not have a cue lever you can add one for $40 from U-Turn.

randychardonnay

A receiver is a kind of amplifier. An amplifier that connects directly to speakers and includes a volume control and a tuner is called a receiver. There are different kinds of amplifiers, but basically what you need is either a stereo integrated amplifier, or a receiver. You can use either. Is there any chance you can swap the speakers for powered speakers for the sake of simplicity? If not, a mini integrated amp should do fine. Klipsch speakers require very little power.

ForsakenBovine

Thanks for the response, I was able to find a stereo amp for a pretty good price so hopefully it works out!

Redcapediverfox

My wife and I just moved and while we made the trip our 5 year old Harmon Kardon did not. I'm hoping to get any good recommendations for a standing speak setup at under $1000 if anyone had any good brands I would super appreciate.

Hi! New here! I was gifted a very damaged record cabinet and I am trying to replace the speakers in it. I know it had a sub mounted in it but I am wanting to replace the other two. Should I buy tweeters? Should I buy full range? Both? I'm wanting it to sound the best it can. Thanks!

TheBlueVU

You can try /r/vintageaudio for advice on old cabinets. Depending on what it is you may find it difficult to source replacements, or they are standard and super easy. You can also look into just gutting the existing parts and drop in a pair of regular speakers instead of replacing components.

Background-Number331

Thanks for the advice! I've decided to take apart some computer speakers and rig them into place. It should be nice once it's done!

sharkamino

Which model? A link or photos?

VinylRevivalMans

Hello everyone, I'm interested in getting into vinyl and record collecting. My parents have a Pioneer PL-Z91 set up, and I was wondering if it would be a good first turntable? If I replaced the belt and the stylus (and potentially the cartridge if needed), then how would this stack up to buying a modern turntable such as a Rega Planar 1? I can't find much information on the internet about what features this turntable has, in terms of how to adjust the counterweight, whether it has adjustable anti-skate etc, and how much these features would matter to someone who hasn't owned a player before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sharkamino

[Pioneer PL-Z91](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZOOiBPjWPE) looks similar to a $100 AT-LP60. If the Pioneer is working fine then it's ok to start with if it only needs a new $15 stylus and $15 belt. Or put that towards a new $150 turntable. The much better Rega Planar 1 costs much more at $575.

VinylRevivalMans

Thanks for the help! In what ways would buying a new turntable - either a new $150 one or going higher up to something around the $400 mark - make a difference to someone new to the hobby? I’m guessing just overall sound quality and ease of set up? I’m struggling to decide if I should stick to what I have now and buying a new belt and stylus as suggested , or going all out and buying a new, more expensive set up.

sharkamino

Does it work with the old belt and stylus on a dollar bin record? If yes then put on a new stylus and then a new belt if needed if the speed is off and adjusting the speed pots does not get you the correct speed. The Pioneer is good enough to get you started and you can use it for years or upgrade later. A $150 turntable will have a new belt and stylus already and and may be a bit better than the Pioneer. If you already have a $500+ or good vintage stereo setup then sure spend $300 to $400 on a new turntable or $200 to $300 on a good vintage turntable.

TheBlueVU

I'd advise working with what you have for now (replace stylus and belt) and learn a bit about the hobby. There's a lot of terminology that won't make sense initially and is pretty abstract until you've experienced things first. Your setup is going to be limited by every chain in the setup, you'll need to learn speakers, amplification, turntables, as well as learning what features may be important to you (more amplification, automatic, additional inputs, etc). Eventually you'll learn what is important to you and can make better decisions for upgrading.

OhGravity412

Got my first records for Christmas along with a record player. However, one of the records in particular keeps hitting the side of the arm stand once every rotation or so to varying levels of noticeability. It’s hard to explain in words since I’m new to this and have never seen this particular scenario lol, I tried posting a video of the problem for reference but it got removed and I was redirected here. Why is this happening? Will this damage the record if it keeps hitting against the side like that? Is there any way to fix it if there is?

TheBlueVU

Do not play that record on the table, you do risk damaging it by having the needle jump the groove. I'm guessing this is a suitcase type player? They aren't really meant to be more than a toy, unfortunately they are known for lack of tolerance in their build quality and can result in what you are describing. If the record in question doesn't have defects (is the edge lead-in (the darker rim) even all around the record, is the center hole off-center (does the arm move side to side when it plays)) you should take the player back to the store and swap it. If the record is flawed you can try to return it, but know that there are normal variances in records that a full size turntable will have no issue with. You may be SOL.

OhGravity412

The turntable isn’t a suitcase-type, it’s a Victoria Eastwood for reference. The edge lead-in isn’t even it appears

TheBlueVU

That is a suitcase player, the term references the all-in-one semi-portable nature of it with built in speakers and amplification and smaller platter. Because it isn't a full size table there will be occasional problems with flawed records (which is unfortunately far too common these days). Try to return the player as it should have better clearance than what you are experiencing.

ManitouWakinyan

I'm looking at connecting my record player to my home theater sound system - what are the pros and cons of using, say, an AV cable versus an HDMI one?

sharkamino

Turntable outputs to an analog audio cable. HDMI is for digital video and digital audio. Which model home theater system? It doesn't have an analog RCA or 3.5mm aux input?

ManitouWakinyan

It does have an analog output - but I've also seen turntables with digital outputs, so I wasn't sure what the ideal would be.

sharkamino

Which turntables with digital outputs? Some turntables or phono stage preamps have USB output to record to a computer. I think I have seen a Pro-ject turntable with a digital optical output. I don't know why it would have that or why anyone would want that. I have not seen HDMI output on a turntable, that would be a first, and I don't know why it would have it or why anyone would want that too.

EpicLibtardRekter

Hey guys! I’m pretty much new to vinyls and I would like to get on the train with you folks. I currently have a 300€ budget for the vinyl setup if it is to be bought on any online shop (I would like to resort to online shopping) but I can increase the budget to about 450€ if I buy something at Fnac, as I have some gift cards (150€). Again, I’m pretty much new to everything regarding vinyls so I don’t have any previous experience or equipment that can be of use. I still would like to get the best experience out of vinyls, as I’m aiming for high sound quality. Also, even though I would like having speakers, it would be nice if I could hear my records through the headphones. Which setup would you guys recommend? P.S.: I’m living in Portugal

AcanthocephalaNo6036

If you're looking for a nice setup with that budget, and you're living in Europe, I'd say that Audio-Technica is your go-to option. If your budget is 300 € turntable + preamp + speakers, I'd suggest you looking for second hand turntables (you can find a decent amount of Technics and/or AT, U-Turn turntables for a relatively cheap price), or aiming for the AT-LP60x, which is a nice, basic turntable what won't murder your records like a Crosley. Speaking of speakers (no pun intended!), [this](https://www.amazon.de/EDIFIER-Studio-R1280T-Lautsprechersystem-Watt/dp/B00GBN50SC) model is relatively cheap, reliable and small if you don't have lots of space. Additionally, they are active speakers, so no need to get a preamp! (but way better if you do). I'm currently using an AT-LPW40WN, which is around 250-300€ (I bought it while I was living in Spain) with a pair of passive stand speakers and the cheapest preamp I could get, and the quality jump from an AT-LP60x is really noticeable. So, If you're able to find the speakers and/or the turntable (or anyone at the same price-quality range) on Fnac, I'd encourage you to aim big and get the relatively expensive but good setup.

EpicLibtardRekter

Hey thanks for the response. I did some heavy research today and found an AT-LP60XUSB GM (which already has a pre-amp, if I can recall) for 128€ at the previously mentioned store which is nice so that I can use the giftcards I had. Also, yes I was planning on buying some Edifier R1280T as speakers and this all would leave me with about 200€ spare on my budget (taking 450€ as the budget because of the giftcards). Still, don’t know if that is the way to go, I could probably aim for a better turntable but I would have to resort to paying cash outside the shop where I got the giftcards from, as it has a very limited range of equipment and they are generally overpriced. Also, I was wondering if I could use headphones, either wired or wireless, but I don’t know what equipment to get.

I tend to keep the record outside the jacket as you've described. If the original inner has art on it, I keep it with the record but if it's a generic paper sleeve I don't bother. Do whatever feels natural for you. I mostly keep the record out of the jacket to keep it easy for myself. It's often a really tight squeeze with newer records, so I feel like I'm saving the jacket by not pushing the record back into it too many times. I don't know that there's a clear right / clear wrong answer on this one.

Techno3601

Does anyone have any recommendations for good vinyl inner sleeves? I just bought the rock & roll hall of fame branded pack which came with 25 inner and 25 outer sleeves. The outer sleeves seem decent enough but the inner sleeves just seem really janky, however these are the first sleeves I have purchased and that may just be how they are supposed to feel.

sharkamino

Original MoFi Mobile Fidelity or good clones: [HudsonHiFi](https://www.hudsonhifi.com/products/hudson-hi-fi-anti-static-vinyl-record-inner-sleeves-protective-vinyl-record-inner-sleeve-100-pack-protect-your-lp-albums-from-scratches-dust-dirt-acid-free-rice-paper-interior-disc-covers) 100 for $20, Sleeve City, Bags Unlimited, Square Deal, Invest In Vinyl, Check Out Stores, [50 inner 50 outer pack](https://www.amazon.com/Sleeves-Vinyl-Provide-Collection-Protection/dp/B07CYJ5LFN).

friedtwinkie

Mobile Fidelity has the best that I’ve used. But they run about a dollar per on Amazon. These Invest in Vinyl are fairly inexpensive and have worked fine for me. Not trying to steer you to Amazon. It’s just easier to show them. Your local record store should have some decent anti-static sleeves. 50 LP Inner Sleeves Anti Static Square Vinyl Record Sleeves 33 RPM 12" Provide Your LP Collection with The Proper Protection - Invest In Vinyl https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CYJ8ZH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MJ37XVRS7V67FS3DJF31

milkandtea3

I've had nothing but positive things to say about Invest In Vinyl's inner sleeves, seem to be one of the most popular options. Never used outer sleeves but I have heard some odd sizing complaints, you may need to look into that if you continue to use outers. Cheap and great quality, can't complain all that much!

Roger8503

Hey all- currently have an AT LP120 and some Edifier 1280 powered speakers. Want to upgrade the speakers for both the TT and my TV (currently have a sound bar) What’s a solid mid range receiver I can use for both? And is there one I can still use with the powered speakers and the sound bar until I can get new passive speakers? Or should I wait until I can get new speakers AND the receiver? Thanks!

randychardonnay

You should wait to replace the receiver when you can also get passive speakers, because new speakers is really the point. New passive speakers are going to be what actually make things sound better. There may be a way to connect a receiver to your powered speakers and your soundbar, but in that scenario, your receiver wouldn't really be doing anything. Just an extra link in the chain, passing signal along. So if you should happen to buy the receiver first and speakers later, I wouldn't recommend bothering to set up your new receiver until you've got the new speakers. Your tv probably wants to connect to a receiver one of three ways: HDMI, optical, or bluetooth. First confirm the connections offered by your TV. An entry-level home theater receiver would give you HDMI--just don't buy anything that comes with its own speakers. Many stereo receivers offer optical or bluetooth. What does mid-range mean for you in terms of budget?

Roger8503

Around $250 I’d say would be the budget. Looking at maybe getting these speakers: [Airmotiv T-Zero](https://emotiva.com/collections/loudspeakers/products/airmotiv-t0-pair). Would this be a solid receiver to pair with them? [Onkyo TX-8220](https://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-8220-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B075P831VY/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=stereo+amplifier+home+audio&pd_rd_r=8603a0b9-f756-4886-8cbe-8d432beb93b3&pd_rd_w=tDFGh&pd_rd_wg=9DXAQ&pf_rd_p=ce028c81-ed8c-425a-8404-93bf425aa8ce&pf_rd_r=3JFNM1BCB029XBJZ48GW&qid=1640623955&sr=8-15). Then I could add a sub at a later time. Thanks for your help!

That would work, sure!

Prior to the speakers I would just connect an aux to a Marshall speaker. I honestly just wanna be able to play my records I don’t care for sound and quality as much. Open to any suggestions tho lol thank you!

Hoping to get brand new, but in that case should I have the person return the speakers ? I appreciate all your help

The new Sony speakers will work with both a new or a used amp or receiver. The Sony speakers are a good value at the current $89 sale price. Can reply here or PM location if you are interested in used options.

bobbywasabi1639

Hey guys I have an LG SKM5Y sound bar system. I’m on the market for a new turntable upgrading from a crappy 30 dollar crosley. Looking for something in the 2-300 dollar range maybe a little more. What are some turntables i would be able to use with my sound bar? Or would I be better off buying entirely different speakers? I’m also looking for something that would be pretty upgradable. Any input would be super helpful thanks!!

sharkamino

You can start with the sound bar so you can get a better turntable instead of splitting the budget between a turntable and speakers. Turntable with a built in or external phono stage preamp > 3ft or [6ft RCA to 3.5mm cable](https://www.amazon.com/KabelDirekt-splitter-smartphones-notebooks-equipment/dp/B00DI89NPE) or adapter > aux input on the soundbar. What is a Craigslist or nearby zip code to search for a good vintage or used modern turntable? New turntable: [Fluance RT82](https://www.fluance.com/rt82t-reference-high-fidelity-vinyl-turntable-black-gloss) $299 adds auto stop and then an optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation. Pass on the older RT80 and RT81 that lack the new speed sensor. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. Phono stage preamp: * [Behringer PP400](https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Microphono-PP400-Ultra-Compact-Preamp/dp/B000H2BC4E) $19 is ok to start with for the sound bar if low on budget until you upgrade to a better pair of speakers. * [Art DJ Pre III](https://www.amazon.com/ART-II-Turntable-Phono-Preamplifier/dp/B0777NFCC5) $65. * [U-turn Pluto 2](https://uturnaudio.com/products/pluto-2-phono-preamp) $99. More turntables $199 to $349 with the same speed sensor as the RT82, adds a basic built in phono stage preamp, no auto stop. * [Monolith by Monoprice Turntable with AT3600](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600045) $199 available in February costs $80 less than the similar AT-LPW30TK. * [Audio Technica Drop.com VTA Carbon](https://drop.com/buy/drop-audio-technica-carbon-vta-turntable) $349 replaces some plastic parts with metal and adds VTA adjustment over the AT-LPW40 for the same cost. Then a later upgrade from the sound bar for both the turntable and TV up to the level of the turntable will be an [AV receiver](https://www.denon.com/en-us/specials) with 4K HDMI and 2 passive speakers for the turntable and optionally 5 or more speakers for TV and movie surround sound. Also would i need to get an amplifier or receiver?

sharkamino

To use a turntable with the soundbar no. Turntable with a built in or a separate phono stage preamp connects directly to the soundbar. An amp or receiver is used with passive speakers.

bobbywasabi1639

If i go with the audio technica drop vta carbon one that includes a phono stage preamp will i be able to add a better phono stage preamp later if i want?

sharkamino

Yes. Switch on back set to LINE uses the built in phono stage preamp to output a line level signal to the soundbar or an amp or receiver. Switch set PHONO outputs the low level phono signal to go to a better external phono stage preamp if you have already upgraded to some good better than entry level speakers that deserve a better phono stage preamp and often a stylus or cartridge upgrade too.

Mohammadrajabwalle

Hi guys, I have an Audio Technica AT-LP3 turntable, and I’ve used the rubber slipmat that comes with it. I’ve recently had a problem with debris always sticking to the slipmat, even after I’ve cleaned it with soap and water and left it out to dry. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or will I have to buy a new slipmat? Thanks.

TheBlueVU

You have a static problem, nothing wrong with the slipmat. Wet clean your records, anti-static inner sleeves, humidifier in your house, ZeroStat gun, move to a warmer climate, etc. Unfortunately static is a difficult problem to overcome initially and there's dozens of recommendations and solutions, but you'll need to see what works for you.

Upgrade your speakers first for the most increase in sound quailty or at the same time as the turntable or soon after since the speakers are more of a sound quality bottleneck than the turntable could be at this point. Upgrade budget is around $300 for the turntable or $600 or more for both the turntable and speakers? What is a Craigslist or nearby zip code to search for used options? Is there also a TV in the room to use the speaker upgrade with?

What is a good upgrade for the stock lp60 mat? The stock one gets a lot of static and sometimes sticks to the bottom of my vinyl.

randychardonnay

If it's winter in your part of the world, basically any felt mat is going to behave like this until spring when you stop using your heater. I'd just put up with it, personally. It's annoying but temporary.

mikebrady

Is a Philips 685 for $50 a good buy for a first turntable?

dups68

If it's in good working condition I do t see why not. You'll need a preamp (or receiver/amplifier with a phono section) as it won't have a built in one

mikebrady

Went to check it out and it wasn't putting out any music so the guy offered it to me for $20 with his thoughts on what he thinks could be wrong. Brought it home and it worked when I hooked it up. 🤷‍♂️ The belt was way loose though and the stylus seemed worn out, so I bought replacements and hopefully it will be good as new after that!

dups68

Congrats on the score! $20 is a bargain. Even if you decide to upgrade down the road youll be able to recoup your cost on it and then some!

[deleted]

Was wondering if this is proper vinyl storage? [https://imgur.com/a/hvqrOmQ](https://imgur.com/a/hvqrOmQ) Edit: Am trying to figure out where to put my speakers. I'm thinking of getting wall mounts but i've heard you need at least 10 cm distance from speaker to wall, if this is the case why are bookshelf speaker wall mounts even a thing?

TheBlueVU

Try this at home: Find an open spot of the wall in your room, find a source of noise (talk out loud, put on some tunes, have your spouse yell at you, etc) now back yourself up to the wall and get your ears as far back as possible. At some point you'll hear everything start getting muffled and distorted. If your speakers put out a fair amount of sound to the rear (bass ported or bad vibrational isolation) then that same type of distortion will be reflected forward. Sometimes just a couple inches can eliminate a good chunk of it vs putting right against it.

randychardonnay

Yeah that's fine, as far as your records are concerned. Different speakers have different recommendations depending on the model and manufacturer. There are plenty of speakers built so that they can sound good while mounted to a wall. You may need to get new speakers. But, when people say you "need" at least 10cm, they mean like, to sound their best. It's not harming anything to have them closer--they just might not sound as good as they could. Everyone's system involves some degree of compromise from what would be truly optimal. That's just life!

Hey everyone, I'm planning to get my first turntable and my dad found a good deal for a Lenco L-401BK. I'm planning to connenct it to a pioneer VSX-921 poweramp with some passive speakers I already have. Would this be a good turntable to start with? Any other reccomendations are welcome of course.

sharkamino

What is the price on the Lenovo? In the UK?

ikke_Z11

I don't live in the uk, but from what I can see the the lenco is about £250 over there. Edit: I just converted the price I can get it for and it's about £150. In case you wanted to know

sharkamino

What is the price in your currency, USA or elsewhere?

randychardonnay

Good way to start, sure! That turntable is nothing special, but it should do fine, and it's always reasonable to start modestly. Doesn't really matter, but your Pioneer is a receiver, not a power amp. Which is good, because a receiver is what you need anyway!

Always best to take advantage of the return window rather than try to fix something yourself or spend more money on a replacement needle.

iamsynecdoche

Hi everyone, I got my first turntable for Christmas. (Well, first since I was in high school playing on some ancient thing my parents had.) I only have three LPs at the moment but I want to take care of them. I read that I should be buying some inner sleeves and outer sleeves and want to make sure I am getting the right things. I'm looking at Amazon (Canada) but sometimes the reviews scare me a bit--maybe they're just a vocal few, but I don't want to make a bad decision. For inner sleeves are [these](https://www.amazon.ca/Sleeves-Vinyl-Provide-Collection-Protection/dp/B07CV42DNB/ref=sr_1_6?crid=V46DVGPQSQSZ&keywords=vinyl+record+inner+sleeves&qid=1640529138&sprefix=vinyl+record+inner+sleeves%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-6) okay? And are [these outer sleeves](https://www.amazon.ca/Groove-Vinyl-Outer-Record-Sleeves/dp/B06WRTDZNZ/ref=sr_1_14?crid=1WN3ODSF5HSN1&keywords=vinyl%2Brecord%2Bouter%2Bsleeves&qid=1640529254&sprefix=vinyl%2Brecord%2Bouter%2Bsleeves%2Caps%2C103&sr=8-14&th=1) okay?

Hello everybody! I recently inherited a Marantz TT2000 turntable. I was thinking about getting a backup headshell/cartridge/stylus setup. Since the TT series headshell are unique and very hard to find information about I was wondering if anybody could tell me which one of the following headshell is better. https://www.thakker.eu/en/accessories/headshells-tonearms/thakker-hs-3a-headshell-adc-standard-connection/a-7699/?ReferrerID=7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn9Tgk9f09AIVReJ3Ch05XAKGEAQYAyABEgIsBvD_BwE https://www.thakker.eu/en/accessories/headshells-tonearms/thakker-hs-11-headshell-adc-normanschluss/a-7698/?ReferrerID=7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoM_htr6B9QIVxOJ3Ch0b8wn-EAQYASABEgIMxPD_BwE The main difference is the room for aligning the cartridge. Does anybody have a clue?

randychardonnay

Do you have the stock headshell to compare to? The shorter one looks closer to stock to me, but honestly, I wouldn't bother unless you don't have a headshell at all. You don't need a backup. Maybe it would be fun to have a second one for experimenting with different cartridges, but you could just as easily just get a backup stylus to pop on if you wanted to make sure you were never unable to play records.

raschio

The original one is the shortest one. However, I was aiming at getting a Ortofon 2M red since the cartridge that I have right now a pretty basic ADC one which I would keep as a backup. However, since the headshell has more than 20 hears I am afraid of damaging the wires while changing the cartridge. So this is the reason why I wanted to get a whole unit in the first place. Also, I noticed that the ortofon 2M red is pretty big for a cartridge so I am not sure if it is the right cartridge to get, due to alignment reasons. But from what I read it should be the best one for an entry level one. Ahahaha sorry for the long reply but I would really like to experiment some other components, in order to enhance my listening experience

JellybrainEllie

Hi! I’m looking to buy a turntable, my budget is extremely limited, and I do not own any wired speakers. Not a good start I know, but as a student with 0 income, it’s all I can do. I’m thinking to buy either the SONY PS-LX310BT, or The Audio-Technica LP60XBT, and using them with Bluetooth headphones until I move and can get something more proper. They are basically the same price where I am, and I’m struggling to find out which is a better buy. Currently leaning towards the Audio-technica as it seems the most popular, and audio-technica is a more focused brand. (Another option would be something like a Crosley cruiser, but I haven’t seen anything positive about these at all, even though the form factor is very tempting) Any and all input here would be much appreciated<3

Reasonable_Apple

Hi! I really want to get into vinyl and need advice. My mom said I could have her Technics SL-1200MK2 that's been collecting dust in our basement. I know it's a nice turntable but my only fear is that it might be too complicated for me - a complete newbie. Do you guys think I should just get a new lower-end turntable (specifically an automatic one) to make things less complicated/cheaper to set up or stick it out and deal with the learning curve? Also, I know that if I stick with the 1200 I'd need to swap out the cartridge and clean the whole thing, but what else do I need to look out for? Any and all advice is appreciated!

Apokoliptictortoise

That's the best turntable ever made so I think you're good 👍.

randychardonnay

If you have a good turntable already, then I would suggest using that instead of buying a cheap and bad one! You don't know how expensive it'll be to set up until you brush off the dust and give it a go. You're also exaggerating the learning curve. Unless it the 1200 has actual problems that need to be repaired, there's nothing particularly complicated about it. You don't even need to swap out the cartridge necessarily. I'd just do a visual inspection to make sure the stylus is intact, and if it is, use a dollar-bin record first before trusting it on something expensive and see what happens. Or buy a new stylus straight away as that's something you can swap easily, as opposed to changing cartridges, which is more involved. Get that turntable running again! You've got a great opportunity to start out with a great turntable, rather than the cheap and junky one that so many of the rest of used when we got started!

That should not be the issue. It is a 7 inch record adapter.

Masen_The_Weeb

I received the Victrola Navigator today as a Christmas gift (finally replacing my Crosley, yay!) And everything works fine, but for some reason my cd player won't read my CD,it's a brand new CD and not dirty or anything,is there any way to fix this? Also 2nd question, what is the safest way to clean a record? Mine are kinda dusty (not a lot,I just don't want it to build up) and I need to know a simple and safe way to clean them

imnotyetready

>Everything works fine >CD player won't read CDs I would say that that means everything isn't working fine

Masen_The_Weeb

Really? Thank you so much you fixed my problem you soggy slab of wood

casualevils

You are aware that that Victoria uses the exact same crappy mechanism as the Crosley suitcases, right? All of these companies just buy the mechanism from the same Chinese OEM and put them in slightly different enclosures.

Masen_The_Weeb

That is not the question I asked you moldy pop tart

lilpop13

hello! so i have a few questions lol. first, what can cause a vinyl to skip? i got a few new records recently and they’ve been skipping and i wasn’t sure if it was an issue with my record player (which is kinda cheap ngl) or the vinyl itself. second, if it is an issue with the record player, what record player would y’all recommend? also, what’s the best way to clean a record? im kinda new to this hahha. thank you!

Masen_The_Weeb

The skipping part I can answer, usually this is becuase the needle is too light and the deep grooves cause it to bounce up and down and also skip some parts, usually a lot of people will tell you to replace the entire record player, but one temporary fix is to put a dime or something very small and light similiar to a dime on the needle to weigh it down a tiny bit. But you shouldn't do this for a long period of time, and if you wanna keep your records good then look into taking it somehwere in town to make sure you don't have to replace the entire record player,to see if there's a way to fix it. But as for the cleaning part,I'm still unsure about entirely,if you find a good and safe way to then be sure to let me know

lilpop13

thank u! it doesn’t skip with every record, would this still fix the issue?

Seannnnnnnnnnnnnnnm

This isn’t good advice, you shouldn’t put coins on your record player’s tone arm, unless you don’t mind permanently damaging your records and shortening the life of your stylus (you might not mind, and that’s totally valid!). Skipping can be caused by a number of issues, including insufficient tracking weight, too much/too little anti skate, a worn out stylus, etc. You’ll want to zero out your tone-arm and make sure it is properly calibrated for your cartridge/stylus. If you have a crosley type record player, these are not adjustable and there probably isn’t much you can do, aside from upgrading. Some cheaper models have a screw to adjust tracking weight and anti-skate, you’ll want to google to find out.

Masen_The_Weeb

Yeah, but I would recommend only putting it on the arm with the records that skip

JonasFGC

So I’m handling my vinyl, but I’ve been to told only to hold by the edges. Is this true for when in the inner sleeve as well? What about outer sleeve? Thanks in advance for my stupid question

foolish_dreamer

Yes, you should hold a record only by the edges and the center label. Our fingers have grease and dirt and you’d want to avoid all that getting into the grooves. You can hold a record normally while it’s in the inner sleeve/outer sleeve though since there is no contact between your fingers and the record itself.

milkandtea3

Do you mean hold it by the edges when you're taking it out of the sleeves? If you are, you can just take them out the same way. A lot of people end up buying the rice sleeves (various brands, I like Invest In Vinyl) and just lightly take it out without using any fancy technique. From there, put hand in the sleeve and I've always just put my thumb on the edge and middle finger + index on the label, mega secure.

ffergenstein

Hi guys, I just got some vinyls for Christmas. Johnny cash played 🔥 but my Adele vinyl sounds a bit staticky and snoh aalegra plays for a couple seconds then slows down and stops on its own. I have one of those victrola case players. After reading a bit on here, I’m realizing they’re not the greatest quality.. any advice/ideas what it might be? Thanks all!

[deleted]

It's the player

telula

Hi Everyone! VERY new to vinyl and I am needing some help with my set-up. I was gifted a Marantz TT42 for Christmas and read that you can hook up speakers through a pre-amp to listen. I purchased a Pro-Ject phono box E pre-amp and ROKIT 5 KRK speakers. The system is playing, but I am getting awful sound. I have trouble shooted, the grounding cable is connected and the turn-table is not on the same surface as the speaker, but still, this fuzzy sound quality remains. Please help!

[deleted]

My new copy of Texas Sun is skipping little bits of the songs on both sides. I am using Victrola briefcase player (I know they are bad, I just got it today for Christmas).

JonasFGC

You could try using a microfiber cloth to maybe get some dust out, but I’m not 100% certain

KindergartenCunt

I'd bet my bank account it's skipping because of the player. Like you said, they're bad, and that's putting it *very* nicely. Easiest fix is to start saving for something better.

[deleted]

Though, I have another new vinyl that I got today and it works fine.

KindergartenCunt

Sure, different albums play differently, but unless you have a dirty, damaged, or defective record, that one is still skipping because of the Victrola. Your complaint is a very common one. I'm not trying to harsh your Christmas cheer about this, but those units really are garbage. There's basically nothing you can do to adjust or dial-in those machines - they either "work" or they don't. If you have the option, play your record on a proper turntable to do a comparison, I'd guess it'll play fine with better equipment.

GeN_17

My dad has a direct drive Pioneer PLX-1000 that he doesn't want anymore (not related to Christmas just a impulse buy lmaooo), was wondering if it's a good turntable for listening as opposed to DJ performance. I assume its a great set just based on the high price, but I thought I'd inquire.

sharkamino

Good for home listening too. If it has a DJ cartridge you can replace it with a standard cartridge.

msusicman

Hello! I’m starting to get a decent little collection going and I’m looking for ways to keep track of it as it grows. Right now I’m using a spreadsheet but that’s not always very practical to use. Do any of you recommend an app or a website where I can put in my records and it organizes them to be searchable? Thanks!

sharkamino

[Discogs](https://www.discogs.com/)

derka_07

Question about tone arm set up. I have the tone arm and counterweight near perfectly balanced, and the tracking force gauge is set to 0. The manual says i need to now rotate both the counterweight and the tracking force gauge together counterclockwise to the cartridge’s recommended tracking force of 2.0g. What i’m confused about is that when i do this, the tone arm becomes unbalanced because turning the counterweight changes the balance, and the tone arm just sinks forward onto its rest without balancing. Is this what it’s supposed to do when the tracking force is set? Or is it still supposed to be balanced after setting the tracking force?

casualevils

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work. The balance point is when there is zero force, and when you set the force by moving the counterweight the balance shifts so that the stylus applies the two grams of force onto the record.

derka_07

Thank you so much, i was really stressing about this lol afraid i would damage the records or something

[deleted]

Hey guys ... spend my money. I got a Fluance RT82 TT for Christmas. My house is wired for whole house audio (but theyre not great) and I have an old Onkyo stereo receiver connected to that so I've gone phono into the receiver. I also have some decent Sony studio monitor headphones. I have $200 to burn. Trying to decide if I should get a decent pair of bookshelf speakers and build the vinyl collection slowly or just use the headphones for now and spend it all on vinyl. What would you do?

sharkamino

Used speakers or new speakers on sale and then the rest of records. What is a Craigslist or nearby zip code to search for used speakers? For Christmas, a good friend of mine gave me The College Dropout by Kanye West, but the way it was manufactured was off. For example, where I believe Side A Disc 1 should be, Side A Disc 2 is labeled (idk could be wrong). Heres ABSOLUTE the kicker tho, the other record is also labeled the same THING? I tested them, the beginning out of both records and the labels are wrong, the music is different. Idk what's happening, I did see this thing were Kanye's records have had a history of being pressed wrong but I really don't have any reason to believe that... My question is really wtf is going on?? I also don't know if I should return it and just get another Kanye record or wait until this album becomes more available? (sorry for the long post lol).

oh_invertedworld

Looking to get my first turntable after inheriting a NAD 7240PE receiver and Infinity RS 2001 speakers. Any ideas to match that setup? Looking at vintage tables mostly, willing to spend $300 or so. Have my eyes on a craigslist Pioneer PL-L800 for $100. In the greater Seattle, WA area. Any tips for an overwhelmed newbie appreciated!

Icy-Masterpiece-6279

I’ve been researching turntables and was leaning towards getting the Fluance rt82 as my first one, without mentioning to anyone in my family that I was thinking of getting one they got me the AT Lp60xbt for Christmas. As someone who doesn’t know anything about them, how much of a difference is there between them? I’m thinking about returning AT for the Fluance, just wanted to make sure the hassle is worth it.

sharkamino

The RT82 is well worth it for $100 more than the AT-LP60XBT especially if you already have a good stereo setup that is better than entry level. What are your amplification and speakers? The AT-LP60XBT has recently gone up in price by around $50 this year, the Fluance RT82 has stayed the same price so it's an even better value compared the the AT-LP60XBT. Also you are paying $50 extra to have Bluetooth in the AT-LP60XBT compared to the model without it. AT-LP60X is automatic, easy setup beginner plug and play, tracking force is set at the factory by a spring, lacks adjustable tracking force and anti-sakte since the cartridge is not removable, has a basic built in phono stage preamp, has Bluetooth. RT82 is manual with auto stop, balance the tonearm then set the tracking force on the counter balanced tonearm, has adjustable tracking force and anti-skate, has a better styls, has a removable cartridge, has a better speed sensor controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation, the platter can be changed to acrylic, no phono stage preamp built in for isolation from the turntable. Pass on the older RT80 and RT81 that lack the new speed sensor. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. More turntables $199 to $349 with the same speed sensor as the RT82, adds a basic built in phono stage preamp, but no auto stop: * [Monolith by Monoprice Turntable with AT3600](https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600045) $199 available in February costs $80 less than the similar AT-LPW30TK. * [Audio Technica Drop.com VTA Carbon](https://drop.com/buy/drop-audio-technica-carbon-vta-turntable) $349 replaces some plastic parts with metal and adds VTA adjustment over the AT-LPW40 for the same cost.

Icy-Masterpiece-6279

Thanks for this thorough response, I decided to go with the rt82. Any suggestions on preamp, I was going to go with the Schiit Mani but it’s back ordered until February. I los received the Edifier 1280db speakers for Christmas, I know there probably not the best will work for a few years and then use them in my office when I upgrade. I also have some speakers that I haven’t used in awhile for my home entertainment system, not sure how good they would be for for vinyl, the receiver doesn’t work anymore.

sharkamino

A $19 Behringer PP400 may be sufficient for the basic Edifiers. A good step up is ART DJ Pre II $65. U-Turn Pluto 2 $99 shipped is just as good as the Mani that costs $30 + $12 shipping more. Which model home theater speakers? You could get a new receiver or used.

LeastHornyRedditor

Need to know what to get for my first turntable. New to this, all I know is that direct>belt driven. I’ve found all of these used for 50- 100 bucks locally, just need to know which is the nicest of the bunch, thanks! JVC L-A31 - $60 Hitachi HT-60s - $50 Technics Sl-q350 - $100 Realistic lab 395 - $50

lilac_daisy

can I use outer sleeves as inner sleeves?

randychardonnay

I can't see that this would be a problem for the record, but I feel like it would work poorly if you then tried to put the record inside a jacket once it was inside an outer sleeve. So I wouldn't, personally.

Anthony319

Which record solution do you guys recommend me buying? The home-made record solution that I've used for a while now has been very hit or miss for me. I just want something that removes static almost entirely, truly deep cleans the dust in the grooves, and also cleans stains. I've been thinking about buying from the "groove washer" brand, but I'm still deciding. Any suggestions?

sharkamino

What is your home made solution made of? [DIY cleaning solutions and record cleaning](https://www.reddit.com/user/sharkamino/comments/jpac5p/diy_wet_soak_vinyl_cleaning/). What is your cleaning method or cleaning machine? Maybe you need an upgrade there.

Mediocre-Rough8061

So I have this abbey road record. The little panel isn't cropped out of Ringo's crosswalk and it doesn't list "Her Majesty." The actual Vinyl is Capitol records and does list "Her majesty." Would appreciate if someone knows what issue this is(Or if someone just put the record in the wrong sleeve lol)

PugDoesRed

Hi, I just set up my new turntable (LP5X) and was wondering if I weighted the tone arm correctly since it was my first time. https://imgur.com/a/m0vRrrn

randychardonnay

This is not something you can tell from a photo, but if you followed the steps I'm sure you did fine. It looks right, but a visual can only tell you so much. At the very least, it doesn't look like your tracking force is way too high as this can kinda flatten the cantilever. But other than that--can't say.

PugDoesRed

Well I couldn’t find the recommended weight for my cartridge but other cartridges similar to it are 2 grams so I just set it to 2 grams as well as the tracking force

useles-converter-bot

2 grams is the weight of about 0.01 cups of fine sea salt. Yes, you did need to know that.
