For me I want a tiny front pocket wallet. Drivers license, bank card, health insurance card & a few bills. That’s 90% of what I might want. I want it durable enough to carry daily for at least a decade. Thin leather but full grain steer from the butt. Simple, functional, solid. I might also want a sophisticated version for suit & tie affairs.

I also search long for this and since some years now use a hand-made leather wallet from SingularLeather, an Etsy seller from Portugal. It’s perfect for me.

I made my own

I already made my perfect wallet. Thin but sturdy leather, hand stitching, two pockets for cards with easy access and a flap for folded bills. Snap secure closure and a way to carry important charms, attach to keys, etc. I even put red dragon scales on mine. I still carry the prototype of my wallet design even though I'm 5 iterations in. Finally have time to make the upgraded version for myself.

This is why I got into leather working. I can just make it exactly how I’ll use it. Speaking of… I think it’s time for a new one…

Speakeasy Leather did it for me lol. The D’Avella wallet is my perfect wallet.

Given how often I use a wallet, I want it to be both satisfying and premium to carry around - think fidget meets mechanical luxury. I want it to last and look similar in 10 years. Maybe even gift it to grandkids (dont have them yet). While I enjoy the look and feel of leather, I like the fidget nature of the popup/mechanical wallets. And many of them incorporate leather. however, Ive found the pop up wallets to lack in a. premium feel - they have tons of plastic bits b. cash and other items are seen as an afterthought. I dont want to fold my cash in 3s or heaven forbid 4s. c. I find that a wallet should also handle the unexpected parts of your day - extra cash, business cards, receipts, extra keys, coins, hotel key, etc. and they dont do that well at all. My solution is a system of slim "wallets" of different styles (a popup, a pouch, and a fidget) that each can work alone as a slim wallet and any 2 can attach/detach in seconds in a premium and satisfying way - allowing you to decide what to carry that day - whether its daily, travel, wedding, etc. and expandable to meets the changing needs of your day while still staying slim. I am currently building this solution now. The figet one will be ready first as a standalone and will be able to work with the other styles when they come out. Anyone want to stay informed, feel free to DM me.

I have it down to 3 cards, a flap for cash, and a pocket for whatever in a tiny bifold. This is all I’ll ever need. If it’s a gym shorts day, it’s easy to switch over to an ultra thin/light wrap that can take a few cards and still has a cash flap on front. It’s freeing to ditch the back pocket brick (and honestly I’ve never missed it).
