Literally had the same exact stop at that place on a family trip to Savannah. Stopped on way back for brisket sandwiches as well cause that place is like bass pro shops meets Walmart meets Disney. I can see how they can afford to pay that.
Their location in TN in the Smokys is humungous! The store and restaurant is the size of a full fledged Costco warehouse! Food is amazing, gas was cheaper than other places. That said those are some incredible pay packages, i bet they don't have any shortage of applicants at those levels..$125k for a car wash manager? Damn..

That place is balls to the wall crowded at all times, I imagine the employees need to be 100% "on" the entire shift.
Places like North Carolina kicked out Buccees when they tried building a mega gas station there. They missed out on place where their teenagers and locals could get a decent paying job. Theres been a lot of backlash outside of TX when they tried branching out. Yet, the local govts allow Walmarts to come in and destroy their local shops.
Also, places like Buccees are cool, because they are 24hrs and can make pitstops w/ trailers there and be safe. Its nice to be able to pitstop at 4am w/ a boat trailer.

Read often that the owner(s) got "consultants" who supposedly help navigate growing the business and government, but instead just asked for insane fees for powerpoints, didn't do anything getting more customers. Consultants are the scourge of many industries, but the food industry where the margins are often razor thin, this is just stupid. Pay them for results, not blabbering.

You're right, that is a lot of money for a car wash manager. But I'm not just any car wash manager, I'm the best there is. And my clients are willing to pay top dollar for my services.
I think these rates are probably for rural areas where entertainment is limited to tumbleweed races and guessing which RV's are meth labs.
Also, usually (not always though) when you see high manager rates, they're able to achieve that by allocating less labor than what is required to do the job such that you'll be performing a lot of routine non-managerial tasks yourself and/or working 60+ hours a week.
Could be wrong though. Companies like Costco are notable exceptions to the above.
Bucee’s is incredible. I did taxes for a smaller local neighborhood store manager/general manager.
They make good money, great benefits, solid work life balance. The company has leveraged technology very well to allow scalability.

I had actually never heard of them until just recently when I saw them pop up on one of those first amendment audit things where the guy was holding up a Buck Fuckee's sign protesting the fact they don't allow semi-trucks but don't notate this on their highway adverts until you actually reach the store.
So if you're a trucker and pull off the highway and navigate all the turns you're greeted with signs turning you away.

There is always a catch when it comes to anything in life. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The same goes for hiring practices - if a company seems to be hiding important information or details in the fine print, there is likely a reason why. Always do your research and due diligence before making any decisions, especially when it comes to something as important as your career!
The work is very demanding. Like it’s a huge no no to even lean on something when you are without a customer to give your back a break. There is also shenanigans with that pay from what I’ve read in the news.
Everything I read on the other thread says it's a toxic work environment where you get one 5-10 minute break and you cannot sit, even on break. If you're caught using your phone or having it on you then you're fired on the spot.

I believe the average person at bucees works 40+ hours because corporate pushes for it and apparently you sometimes aren't allowed full lunches. Just breaks here and there during your shift.
It’s is kinda a requirement, we work 50 hour weeks, 45-47 if you wish. I like the 53-55 range !! Makes for quite a nice check. The also match 6-% 401-K.. so when you are banging $177 a week into it and they match that it makes for a nice nest egg. Everyone get a paid break on the company. Well there are states that require you to clock out for 30 minn’s..
You're right, it's not easy work. It requires a lot of dedication and hard work to be successful in running a gas station the size of Walmart. However, I believe that if you have the right mindset and are willing to put in the effort, anyone can achieve success in this field.
Extremely high but extremely worth it. They even have a "snitching" incentive policy where if you catch and report another EMPLOYEE for shoplifting from work, they give you a pretty hefty bonus.
Yeah if you look at reviews people complain about being fired because they were 15 minutes late every day for a week. As well as other stupid shit it’s as if they showed up on time and did the job they wouldn’t have been fired.

It depends on what job you’re doing. When the time you arrive actually matters, then I understand. Aka outward facing job. Though when it doesn’t, being anal about the time doesn’t make any sense other than stroking your ego. Its akin to forcing people back into office when they can work from home just as well.
Being on time is the most basic aspect of working with people. You're paid to be doing something at a certain time, show up at that time. It's like life's easy way to spot a loser. If they can't even show up on time, why even wait for them to fuck up the actual job. Being on time takes zero skill. If you can't do that, you're not reliable.

We have shit salaries in Europe, and people don't even realize that there's an insane gap with the US. And no, free healthcare or whatever doesn't bridge the gap.
I’m in Canada and we also have free healthcare. That being said if i want a simple X-ray i have to:
- see a doctor for a prescription: at minimum a 3 week wait and I’m considered lucky for having a family doctor)
- hope he will give me a prescription for an X-ray and not just say to go home
- book the X-ray (1-2 month wait)
- have a fucked up bone or whatever forever because by the time i receive any care the issue has progressed too much/healed on it’s one
Typically your only option where i live is wait outside of a walk in clinic at 6am like it’s a fucking iPhone release or go to emergency for any issue and wait 12+ hours.

Welllll, in fairness a lot of folks dont move and then complain. Go to where the money is, rather than find reasons not to. I did UK, CZ, PL and CH now, with salaries differing massively. Mind you, so did life style and living standards, which ironically was pretty amazing in Czechia a decade ago.

Germany is really the best balance between wages and COL. The german service industry is full of italians that travelled to work in germany. Their outlook is not great though. Between demographics and the cost of energy. They thought they could pump their collapsing demographics with refugees but none of them work.
In smaller ones, possibly. American cost of living is very low outside of the big metros.

Bucees are bigger than any grocery store in Germany tbh. Bucees have like 100 pumps at the gas stations and have hella branded merchandise (that sells extremely well). They have their own branded foods that they sell. Extremely clean bathrooms too. Some kids take their prom pictures at bucees. Travelers coming thru Texas almost always stop and spend a bajillion dollars like it’s a tourist spot.
Heb is another Texas only grocery store and they pay just about the same as Bucees on probably less profits.
For anyone unaware, Buc-ees is basically a giant gas station that’s equivalent to Walmart. It’s pretty much a cult icon following here in Texas because everyone always wants to stop there during road trips for snacks, overpriced bbq sandwiches, and to use a spotless restroom.
As for why they are paid that much, they absolutely work your ass off from what i hear. Phones are basically locked away your whole shift. You pretty much cannot sit down at all while working. You have a like a 5-7 minute lunch break your whole shift. Reading reviews on Indeed definitely can confirm these sentiments.
I think its several things. But one thing I don't see mentioned is how remote a lot of Buc-ee's are. This isn't a chevron, where there is one on every corner of the city. They are out on busy interstate highways, at intervals between large cities. So, its not really a job you can commute to from the city. You have to live in the area, or relocate.
For example, the largest Buc-ee's is in Luling, Texas. Luling has a population of 5.5k. It's an hour from San Antonio and 2.5 hours from Houston.
it's the rest room for me. it's so clean you can eat in the floor. and the cubicle truly provides privacy unlike the half assed wall coverings you are used to see.
I had an interview yesterday for a job that listed it’s pay as $18-24 an hour and I hung when they told me their new employees start at $18. This was at a state of the art bio materials manufacturer working in a clean room lab. Good to know they offered me less than a bucees bathroom attendant.
I have never seen a glassdoor salary that actually lined up with reality. Not sure if it's because it's living on a lag of a few years from averaging out, but it always seems to underestimate what you can actually get by a good margin.

Just my two cents, everyones talking about how "But no one wants it cause you actually have to work" but that's a MASSIVE undersell on what they expect from people. My ex worked there when she was in college, one 25 minute lunch break for a 7 hour shift, no sitting period, got in trouble for going to the bathroom more than 2 times in a day, they were required to ALWAYS be cutting fruit (her station) regardless of if there were already fully stocked on fruit cups (btw, they throw them out every 3 hours), and when she found out her dad was dying of cancer and asked for a weekend off to go see him, she was told she had to find someone to cover her shift, then when she couldn't they told all her coworkers that it was her fault they had to cover for her because her dad was dying, which was obviously not something she wanted everyone to know.
They pay that ,but they also hook you. Have to work x amount of months or you have to repay them. Shady dealing but if you can handle the hustle. It's great money..

This guy said "all the OT you can handle" but that's the requirement not the option lol I believe the average person at bucees works 40+ hours because corporate pushes for it and apparently you sometimes aren't allowed full lunches. It’s is kinda a requirement, we work 50 hour weeks, 45-47 if you wish. I like the 53-55 range !! Makes for quite a nice check. The also match 6-% 401-K.. so when you are banging $177 a week into it and they match that it makes for a nice nest egg. Everyone get a paid break on the company. Well there are states that require you to clock out for 30 minn’s..

Extremely high but extremely worth it. They even have a "snitching" incentive policy where if you catch and report another EMPLOYEE for shoplifting from work, they give you a pretty hefty bonus.

Yeah if you look at reviews people complain about being fired because they were 15 minutes late every day for a week. As well as other stupid shit it’s as if they showed up on time and did the job they wouldn’t have been fired.
I’m habitually late, but I’m also not going to work at a place that expects me to be a robot.
That’s like my wife her boss started scheduling her 30 minutes early and my wife complained. Then she went out for drinks with her boss and her boss got drunk and told her she scheduled her early so she would show up on time. My wife started to be late again.
It depends on what job you’re doing. When the time you arrive actually matters, then I understand. Aka outward facing job. Though when it doesn’t, being anal about the time doesn’t make any sense other than stroking your ego. Its akin to forcing people back into office when they can work from home just as well.
Being on time is the most basic aspect of working with people. You're paid to be doing something at a certain time, show up at that time. It's like life's easy way to spot a loser. If they can't even show up on time, why even wait for them to fuck up the actual job. Being on time takes zero skill. If you can't do that, you're not reliable.

That being said if i want a simple X-ray i have to: - see a doctor for a prescription: at minimum a 3 week wait and I’m considered lucky for having a family doctor) - hope he will give me a prescription for an X-ray and not just say to go home - book the X-ray (1-2 month wait) - have a fucked up bone or whatever forever because by the time i receive any care the issue has progressed too much/healed on it’s one Typically your only option where i live is wait outside of a walk in clinic at 6am like it’s a fucking iPhone release or go to emergency for any issue and wait 12+ hours. Shit sucks

Isn't cost of living generally cheaper though in some European countries? We had an ex-pat from Italy at my last job. He was surprised about how expensive America was compared to Europe. Hell even when me and my wife vacation in Europe, we notice money goes further. I laughed when we were in Portugal and a local complained that daily parking was 5 euro in Porto. We laughed because in our home city, daily parking could be 10-20 dollars depending on where you're at. In larger cities could be 40-60
Italy is cheaper because the wages are shit. I haven't been there in 12 years but when I visited I ate and drank like a king. Germany is really the best balance between wages and COL. The german service industry is full of italians that travelled to work in germany. Their outlook is not great though. Between demographics and the cost of energy. They thought they could pump their collapsing demographics with refugees but none of them work.
In smaller ones, possibly. American cost of living is very low outside of the big metros. Before COVID the average cost of a house nationwide was around $200k.

Bucees are bigger than any grocery store in Germany tbh. Bucees have like 100 pumps at the gas stations and have hella branded merchandise (that sells extremely well). They have their own branded foods that they sell. Extremely clean bathrooms too. Some kids take their prom pictures at bucees. Travelers coming thru Texas almost always stop and spend a bajillion dollars like it’s a tourist spot. Heb is another Texas only grocery store and they pay just about the same as Bucees on probably less profits.
It’s higher than what an engineer would start with in America. An engineer with a PhD.
For anyone unaware, Buc-ees is basically a giant gas station that’s equivalent to Walmart. It’s pretty much a cult icon following here in Texas because everyone always wants to stop there during road trips for snacks, overpriced bbq sandwiches, and to use a spotless restroom. As for why they are paid that much, they absolutely work your ass off from what i hear. Phones are basically locked away your whole shift. You pretty much cannot sit down at all while working. You have a like a 5-7 minute lunch break your whole shift. Reading reviews on Indeed definitely can confirm these sentiments.

I think its several things. But one thing I don't see mentioned is how remote a lot of Buc-ee's are. This isn't a chevron, where there is one on every corner of the city. They are out on busy interstate highways, at intervals between large cities. So, its not really a job you can commute to from the city. You have to live in the area, or relocate. For example, the largest Buc-ee's is in Luling, Texas. Luling has a population of 5.5k. It's an hour from San Antonio and 2.5 hours from Houston.

I had an interview yesterday for a job that listed it’s pay as $18-24 an hour and I hung when they told me their new employees start at $18. This was at a state of the art bio materials manufacturer working in a clean room lab. Good to know they offered me less than a bucees bathroom attendant.

I have never seen a glassdoor salary that actually lined up with reality. Not sure if it's because it's living on a lag of a few years from averaging out, but it always seems to underestimate what you can actually get by a good margin.

Just my two cents, everyones talking about how "But no one wants it cause you actually have to work" but that's a MASSIVE undersell on what they expect from people. My ex worked there when she was in college, one 25 minute lunch break for a 7 hour shift, no sitting period, got in trouble for going to the bathroom more than 2 times in a day, they were required to ALWAYS be cutting fruit (her station) regardless of if there were already fully stocked on fruit cups (btw, they throw them out every 3 hours), and when she found out her dad was dying of cancer and asked for a weekend off to go see him, she was told she had to find someone to cover her shift, then when she couldn't they told all her coworkers that it was her fault they had to cover for her because her dad was dying, which was obviously not something she wanted everyone to know.
