I would agree they are armored lily weevils (Brachycerus sp.)
sorry about your false sale:( weevils are still cuties though!! Here’s some information on housing, food etc:
https://www.newlands.ie/products/armoured-lily-weevil
I have to get one just so I can call it Gonzo!!!! 🥰

I love them so much, their little faces are so precious!!!! I feel bad for getting tricked and not checking the beetles properly, I did not realize they were weevils instead of darkling beetles/Pimelia, but I wanna do right for them.
Never knew weevils could get this big and spiky, it is kind of like a dream come true. Unexpectedly. 😂😂
I sure hope so 😍
If they don't, it's not for lack of trying on their part, lol. Though I have heard the larvae are difficult to raise. Only time will tell :D
I actually already have one egg that was with them in the transport box. I have literally no clue about weevil rearing so I put it in a mix of beetle substrate and some isopod food mix bc it said online that some larvae need extra food 😅
Some sources say the temperature has to be at a constant 31.1°C though, I cannot maintain that.
Maybe I'll learn more about weevil reproduction in the future, but for now I need to focus on finding something to eat for them :3
Who would have thought my summer would be spent on weevil biology. As a casual lurker on this sub, I am not too upset (although it is a little stressful lmao) :)
Ya know, there might be a couple of weevil raiser/experts who might be able to help. You could ask the sub. I’m sure people here would love to follow your attempts.

They really do! That's why I didn't question the death feigning at first. My best friend took a look at the pics I sent and was like "yo, those are weevils"
They're a little too good at playing dead, i thought these were preserved specimens lmao
As far as not getting what you thought you were purchasing: Sorry for your loss but congrats for your gain!
So did my buddy when I showed him, lol
He was like, oh, they look cool... omg they MOVE!!!
And yeah, I am happy, but also a little stressed because I know nothing about weevils 😅
Definitely review the seller as unreputable.
Also there's insects (or nearly any animals) that like alliums??????? I mean I'm sure there are some but I'd double check that. It's not okay for so many animals. Looking in general some alliums can be used to repel weevils from other plants but I don't know about this type of weevil.
The feeding suggestions seem to be for Pimelia rather than weevils. It doesn’t make sense to go to so much effort to feed weevils meat– they’re pretty much all vegans!
Yeah, I kinda figured that after reading up on them. I mean, I'd give them a small piece of pork if they wont eat anything else I try out. No mice though, that's a bit much 😅
Just head on over to r/Weeviltime and post your photos again and celebrate your wonderful purchase
Oh wait... This is the Weeviltime community... Nice weevils you've got there

They are super adorable!! I am just worried about their care... Thank you so much for the link! I will check it out
sorry u didnt get what u paid for but it warms my heart to see you happy to learn and take care of them regardless <3<3

Id be both very upset and not upset at the same time. They like leafy greens.
The pinkies live on! 🥳 Oh no! It's already too late for them I guess... 😔 At least no pinkies are required to be chopped off, oooops I mean up, now! 😂
Thanks! So, like spinach and lettuce? I'll try out some things
Lmao they bonk each other and then play dead? Like the weevil version of fainting goats?
Horny, fainting goats 😂
LOL
Try r/entomology
They are beautiful and love leafy greens like willow sprigs, sycamores, carrot tops ect. Enjoy the big little ones ☺️
They look like you over cooked them.
you can have pet weevils????? i want
Apparently only if you order Pimelia Sp 🙃
What I did not know you were here to this is like the tenth time this happened to some Redditer I know
it’s so funny seeing people i know from a subreddit on some other random bug subreddit haha!
IKR
Wow, kinda like a Jurassic Weevil! 🤩
omg they're huuuuge!
Are these guys dead dead or just *'dead'*.....? Cause they look proper dead dead...
Weevils will “play dead” They are perfectly fine! They are just weirdos.
🤣 They are so cute!
Wow, they need a different habitat. Sorry you were blindsided, but omg these are amazing! Please please please update with video!
Hi! I posted a video of one of the girls yesterday :3 https://www.reddit.com/r/weeviltime/s/MQOLeKT1MA
She definitely wants a hug 🥰 also, I hope they have babeees!
I sure hope so 😍 If they don't, it's not for lack of trying on their part, lol. Though I have heard the larvae are difficult to raise. Only time will tell :D
>>larvae are difficult to raise All the more reason for an insect nerd 🤓 to geek out

Good idea! Maybe I'll make a separate post just for that
It would be welcome! There’s also the geekier sub for insects. I’ll look it up

Hey, wow, it just sunk in your summer studying weevils. Guess you are their expert after all.
If they weren't brown like that OP I would've said you got scammed cause they look almost identical to Feigning Beetles other than they arent blue...
But yeah I'm agreeing with the others and believe those are most likely Brachycerus sp

Some Brachycerus weevils have alliums as host plants, though these don't. They just sleep on the onion that started to sprout, lol
Cool
Is he ok
They are doing fine right now :)
I thought he was dead 😦
I know right, they can feign death very convincingly! All five of them are doing okay now and explore their new (temporary) enclosure
