Try it as they are about $500 and see - - if not you should be able to sell it for $250. Or just buy a used one to start off on ebay and then your loss will be even lower if it doesn't work out. There is a reddit group for metal detecting and you can ask them if they recovered their investment - i would say that 90% do find as much as the detector cost and much more !
