It’s mourning dove tail feathers. They make interesting choices when it comes to nesting sites. One year it was atop the garden rake on my shed rather than in the 100 ft cedar tree in the same yard
They also like forest edge areas. There appears to be a pretty open area in the picture. We have tons of them were I live and we back up to the woods and I see them a lot flying towards the tree line.
But you correct, they also love residential areas!
Thanks for the lesson. Always like learning a little more about birds. I've spent a lot of time in the woods and don't remember seeing one. I also haven't been looking for them either. I had one outside my dorm room in college. It learned the back up beep of the construction equipment at the football stadium. It would sit outside my window almost every day and just keep making that annoying beep
I think it's a bird tail, as others said - a blue jay, maybe.
Not sure how anyone thinks it's a pad or mask. It would be against the lens and you wouldn't see anything else.
Could be a Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher
Is the trail in Texas?

Sometimes birds land on my security camera and bc they are so close to the cam it distorts whatever part is hanging over the lens. Squirrels like to lounge on it too. Same thing
I want to say someone put a photo up that looks like a cock and balls, but I think those are the tail feathers of a bird that is sitting on the camera.

Birds tail
Now does anyone know what it is? I can't think of a bird with a white tail other than an eagle and that isn't an eagle.
I think it’s probably a Northern Mockingbird. The underside of their tail is white.
Mourning dove?
Bird tail feathers for sure. Does look like a dove/pigeon.
Holy hell. Are they *mourning* doves not *morning* doves?!
Yes. It’s because they were thought to sound like they are mourning. (And, they sound like that all day long, not just in the mornings. 😉)
Also they tend to mate for life so it sucks if one of them dies
Many birds do. They are far better at this than most people (myself included).
I'm pretty good at mating with one person.
Same
A beloved sound from my childhood.
Inquiring minds want to know
And knowing is half the battle
Go Joe!
Yep.
Mourning Doves. I too was confused. The Merlin bird app set me straight
I love that app
I use the Merlin Bird ID by Cornell? I LOVE THAT APP!

I agree. Colorization looks like Mourning Dove.
In case you weren’t aware r/stupiddovenests exists 😀 Edit: spelling / autocorrect
Very aware lol amazing sub
obviously, it is mocking OP.
Wow, correct spelling of their on reddit. It's a miracle!
Trust me, I had to proofread my post before I posted! I’m constantly spelling it “thier” and am self-conscious about my spelling/grammar!
>Wow, correct spelling of their on reddit. It's a miracle! I know, right? I'm going to loose my mind! /s
I agree, it's also square at the bottom and that fits. There's several families of mocking birds where I walk my dog so I see them often.
My first thought was mocking bird tail
Genuine question not saying you're wrong, but do mocking birds hand out in the forest? I only remember ever seeing them in residential areas.

I moved from a place with out them so I was pretty excited when I saw my first! In a gas station parking lot off the expressway!
I have a blue jay in my area who mimics a hawk and a starling who mimics a hawk and also fire engine sirens.

My thoughts till
Could be the underbelly of a slug/snail. The lens on a trailcam isn’t very wide. This object is smaller than a 30mm lens.
Duck bill
My exact thought too!
It has wings, but it’s not a bird
That is probably what it is. Not sure which brand though. It definitely looks like one.
I thought it was a hotdog bun
Same
My first thought too!!
This has to be a bird that landed on top of the trail cam. It just looks goofy because it's so out of focus.
