It's wild lettuce. Its also a medicinal herb. When it starts to mature and flower you break a leaf off or cut the stem slightly it oozes a white Latex. This is made into a tincture for a natural form of painkiller. In the Civil War, they used it when they didn't have morphine.
Milkweed is a large species of plants with flowers. Monarch butterflies depend on it their entire lives laying eggs, forming the chrysalis and worms to providing its only food.
It's a salad green. Part of the dandelion family. Slightly bitter taste. Typically used in a mixed greens salad. We topped ours with edible flowers.
It's cool to have if you have the rest of the ingredients and want a $50 salad for free and 25 cents worth of salad dressing.
Better to gather greens from a box you planted though.
It's just safer.
Guess who never had to do yard work a day in their life? Had a relative that would go to unsprayed fields and bring home a bagfull and cook them with scrambled eggs. Real nummy.

It’ll give you terrible diarrhea if you eat it after it bolts though.
Thats a super good detail to know.
Rainbow diarrhea apparently
Diarrhea for Pride? Nice.
Thankyou! I also have this in my garden, and knew it wasn’t dandelion, because I have plenty of them and the leaves are different.
I can see how people think it's a dandelion. It does remind one of a dandelion
It's in the dandelion trice, in the daisy family.
Neat!
That’s so interesting!
Never knew that
I call it giant dandelion
I guess that’s why I always heard it called “ milk weed” while I was growing up.

Good salads!!!
Lactuca serriola or Prickly Lettuce. NOT A DANDELION
Looks like a Lactuca.
That’s my vote, too
Looks like wild lettuce. Feel if the back of the leaves are spikey. If so, it is.
Life finds a way.
Thanks, Jeff
Lunch
Break a stem and see if white stuff comes out, if it does it’s wild lettuce.. good for headaches/pain
I tried a drop of the sap to see if it works for pain. It’s bitter, but my pain was gone quick.
Yes it’s very bitter.. look up wild lettuce tincture
A drop of the sap killed your pain??? Shit i need to find this plant!
Mine's a rogue tomato plant 🙄 https://preview.redd.it/e55w8gl0qm6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c99dd59d6883931c91d75517b80dd0109404a8ed
Someone dropped a tomato slice at a BBQ.
Yes! 😂👍🏼
Probably dandelions.
Canada lettuce
salad
I think this plant is called “tall lettuce.” Lactuca biennis
dandelion
I'm with you . Dandelions
I was thinking dandelion too, but now I'm not sure. I'd be nice to see the underside of the leaf.
I used to harvest it for burns.
Did you ingest or rub it on the burns?
Rub it on the burn. It will turn blue but disappear after a day. But it numb the sting right away.
Looks like a thistle
Not one you can smoke
This is Lactuca canadensis, Canadian Lettuce, native to all North America.
It looks to me to be of the Endive variety of the lettuce genus. But don't rely on my identification, let us remember I'm no expert on lettuce.
🤦♀️
Prickly lettuce. In the dandelion tribe, daisy family. These mfs grow SUPER tall. I have a few around my 3 ft tall milkweed and they are nearly 4 ft.

Wild lettuce. Great medicinal properties when used right.
Not the one that will get you high
Looks like baby arugula.
Opium lettuce
If I could make opium from a driveway plant I'd be rich
I think whatever it produces targets the same receptors that opioids do,what my wife says anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Tasty until it flowers
