Tbf it might depend on the country. I went to Italy recently and the hotel I stayed at gave us chocolates and wine the day before we left. In return we gave them a bunch of snacks and drinks we weren't taking. Super wholesome. People I went over with apparently talked to them alot so it's probably not the norm.
Honestly anything by big corporation can be guaranteed nowadays to be a victim of enshitification.
Small business owners are 50/50 decent human beings or satans incarnate.
I allowed myself to be persuaded by a mini bar recently. Was hung over and desperate for water. I got a redbull instead because it was 3 dollars cheaper than some bottled water.
Oh 100% they do. I travel and sleep in hotels for work. Itās a nice gesture but they want to milk all they can out of each room. Not wrong just fact.
Well, it depends on the hotel and country. In the Dominican Republic for example, the minibar was free of charge with all sorts of things in there except alcohol (well, the room also cost like 1200$ for a week). But if the hotel is in a capital city, the minibar usually isn't even if it's expensive af.
They're SO fucking good. I can't justify the price for such tiny bottles (a sip of Yakult just ain't enough), but yeah. I've craved them ever since I tried 'em last year.
>Is Yakult any good ?
It tastes good cause its yoghurt with sugar.
>I have never used it and don't know what it's benefits if any ?
Normally there aren't really benefits, your gut microbiome is stable and there's already such a variety of microbes in there that the few from a drink that survive the stomach don't make a difference.
Only when you've had antibiotics or chemo, then probiotics are beneficial. But probably you'll get something medical grade if you need it.
It's tasty. I don't care about the benefits so much. It is expensive tho so I haven't actually had it in years. So I'm pretty happy that the lemon yoghurt from the bubble tea place tastes just like it (I just wish they'd also make a slushy/frappe version like the bubble tea place near my old apartment).
I can't stand yakult. Maybe there are different types, but my friends raved about the one they gave me. When they said it was a probiotic type drink, I was expecting something more like filmjolk or kefir.
Ā It was like a drinkable version of Rockets (Smarties for the Americans). Not my thing.

Bubble tea places will sometimes have a 'lemon yoghurt' flavour which is identical. The old bubble tea place I used to go to used to actually call it Yakult flavour, but it suddenly changed one day so they probably got in trouble lol. But yeah, it makes for a pretty amazing slushie/frappe.
I drank 4 in a day when I was younger and my ass blasted. Sometimes I wish they had the drink without the lacrobacilli and just the flavor so I can chug to my heart's content
Now that the rest of the gang have had their fun making (albeit justified) remarks about the hotel's motives - please let me say, as a fellow addict, that I totally felt that gesture. Quite heartfelf, because you're just one customer and I'm sure their yearly balance doesn't hang on the thread of your reservation. They could have easily emptied the minibar and called it a day. Instead, they made you feel like any other guest. And yes, to all you wise asses, getting treated as an equal means a lot to people with forced limitations. You guys see a business trying to rip OP off, I see OP being able to open the minibar at a room they paid for without risking unhealthy cravings or a relapse. If you don't know what that's like - lucky you.
Hang in there OP, one day at a time, I believe in you ššš
Yeah agreed. They want to make money of course thatās their business and how they make a living! But they could have just put water and called it a day. Instead they went above and beyond to find alternatives. Looks like they spent time and effort filling the bar.
I'm not sure IDK why it immediately has to be a negative perspective. Given the context of the post this seems like an over the top kind gesture. OP isn't forced to take anything from the fridge anyways.
Come on, we all know this a domestic fridge in a private household. Which minibar would give you a water carafe, two limes and a ginger shot that have already been open? š
Itās not a coincidence they have all that on hand. Why leave it empty when they can pack it up and over charge you. But, hey at least they actually took the alcohol out as requested.
First takeaway: Great, no alcohol. Respect.
Second takeaway: .... Great, so now I have to take EVERYTHING out just to put my own (non-alcoholic) drinks in there.
Hotel has a strange definition of "empty". When I ask them to empty the fridge, I expect it to be empty, so you know, I can store my own stuff like kids' milk and food.
Depends how you phrase ~~is~~ it.
Empty the mini bar fridge or empty the mini bar fridge of alcohol. I doubt they meant the latter otherwise they wouldnāt be happy about it.
$5 says this set off the sensor and charged your account for the items they replaced and the employee didn't check because they are so burned out they forgot what room they just serviced. I'm not jaded or anything.
I mean an alcoholic who needs to request no alcohol in their presence is gonna open the fridge at some point, and then kick themselves for doing so because they know exactly what they were gonna do if there was booze in there.
Yeah, it's possible to forget at a loose time and wonder what you were thinking. Though I'd never open something I can't afford even as an alcoholic which I'm not though that makes my opinion shallow.
I usually bring stuff to put in the mini fridge. Snacks, maybe sandwich stuff. Something for lunch so I donāt have to eat at an over priced restaurant.
Even if the person lacks accountability, it's life threatening to the person as an establishment. The hotel has nothing to be bitter about, but kinda sweet and sour for the rest.
Wow. Thats incredible. They really really need to be recognized for this over and beyond. So many places get cancelled for wrong things. We need to promote the good things. Do this not that. Apparently some people didnāt learn some of this in kindergarten.
Everyone here actually seems to have hit the point.
The hotel doesn't care if he is a recovering alcoholic, infact they'd probably love it more but since he made a request then they just sell him other stuff.
Ahw, how sweet!
Just two questions:
1) Does the hotel want you to recreate nasty bowel movements of a heavy night drinking with the Yakult six-pack?
2) What was in the nondescript bottle on the bottom-right with its seal already broken..?
Thoughtful? Or just common sense? If they know they can't make money off you by offering you booze, then they will provide you with something they hope that you *will* consume.
That's so sweet, they still want to rip you off
My exactly thought š¤£
Gotta cater to your customer!
Itās exact what I was thinking!
Fantastic! š
It is also likely that they aren't the first person to request the change to the fridge.
My exactly as well š
Tbf it might depend on the country. I went to Italy recently and the hotel I stayed at gave us chocolates and wine the day before we left. In return we gave them a bunch of snacks and drinks we weren't taking. Super wholesome. People I went over with apparently talked to them alot so it's probably not the norm.
Also depends on the size of the hotel, family owned businesses will probably be more nice than big companies
Very true
Honestly anything by big corporation can be guaranteed nowadays to be a victim of enshitification. Small business owners are 50/50 decent human beings or satans incarnate.
You gave the hotel snacks? What does that mean?
Yeah. They're probably changing hotel mini bar vodka prices for Yakult and beer prices for soda.
Precisely. I'll bet the cheapest thing in there is still at least $10.
I allowed myself to be persuaded by a mini bar recently. Was hung over and desperate for water. I got a redbull instead because it was 3 dollars cheaper than some bottled water.
Tfw *water* is more expensive than an industrially produced drink
Brawndo principle
They wont miss a way to take your money, no good sir!
Nailed it lol
~~Life~~ *Greed*, uh, finds a way.
$30 restocking fee
"Excuse me... what's this $13 charge.. "You took one of the yakult, Sir
those limes gotta be $10 each.
Depends, if you're in the fancy rooms the minibar is often complementary.
Oh 100% they do. I travel and sleep in hotels for work. Itās a nice gesture but they want to milk all they can out of each room. Not wrong just fact.
Hope they do with this person.

**Casei Shirooootaaaaaa!**
Worth it tbh. Yakult is life
In my country $4 probably could buy you a 6 pack of Yakult. Yakult has been hit hard with inflation too unfortunately.
Is Yakult any good ? I have never used it and don't know what it's benefits if any ?
They're SO fucking good. I can't justify the price for such tiny bottles (a sip of Yakult just ain't enough), but yeah. I've craved them ever since I tried 'em last year.
I buy the costco version, I think it's called cool plus. Does the job and you get a 50 pack for much cheaper per tiny bottle
In Korea they sell it in big bottles of 750ml, it's the best
It's like really really good, so there's that. I think that most of the benefits of yoghurt transfer, but I might be wrong in that
It tastes great and is being used in a variety of mixed drinks across Asia as well. Benefits? None. It's all marketing.
It helps a lot when my stomach is upset. I drink 2-3 bottles of it. It's also not ridiculously expensive in my country.
It genuinely helps with upset stomach
>Is Yakult any good ? It tastes good cause its yoghurt with sugar. >I have never used it and don't know what it's benefits if any ? Yeah in the hospital we just give packets of lactobicillus mixed in water.
Its like milk but for your stomach, for long exposure on your skin, it will be sticky, but when drink its like pure taste of milk without milk.
Am I having a stroke?
I think don't put the melk on your skin. Melk goes in your mouth.
It puts the yoghurt in the basket or else it gets the Melk again
Yoghurt is like melk for your stomach
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Or you get the sticky
Ah, stupid sticky melks
No, im just tired
>#it will be sticky
It's tasty. I don't care about the benefits so much. It is expensive tho so I haven't actually had it in years. Iāve always thought it tastes like a virgin pina colada

What did your skin think about it tho
Too damn sticky!

Honestly id drink all that yakult just as appreciation for respecting my request
Empty fridge wonāt make any money
Having someone relapse would probably make them more money though.
I think damages and cleaning that the person might no pay for will cost more
Exactly. The cynic in me sees business sense, not wholesomeness.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I like the taste of yakult but itās just expensive for such a smol bottle
It is a very strong flavour tho. Your gut would probably implode or something if you drank too much
I've made my choice
My asian ass could probably drink 100 of those things with no results
I was born in the yakult, molded by it
If it werenāt so expensive my gut bacteria would be corrosive by now
We have "family size" (about half a liter) bottles here in Korea and I will destroy the whole thing by myself.
Only in Asia is 0,5 liter called family size...
I mean it's Yakult.
If they had those here I would be diabetic in two seconds.
Bubble tea places will sometimes have a 'lemon yoghurt' flavour which is identical. The old bubble tea place I used to go to used to actually call it Yakult flavour, but it suddenly changed one day so they probably got in trouble lol. But yeah, it makes for a pretty amazing slushie/frappe.

you can: try Calpis
Calpis is the answer, if you're lucky, it should be at any Asian grocer really.
POV you drank 2 yakult a day
It's particularly annoying because it's a fraction of the price in Asia.
In asia you can get a pack of 5 for $1
Vs $3 for a pack of 5 here. Honestly not that much more expensive.
200% more is quite a lot
And the Asian ones are big bottles
Itāll be 3 times that at a hotel
That's cool that they provided options for you.
This should be default. You need to beg for danger.
They care, about collecting your money
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Always
Well I mean the employees don't set the prices
No they do not. This is coming from somebody who worked at the movie theater and got yelled at by peopleFor the movie prices every day.
I feel you, I've worked retail and somehow they thought I was the ceo while I was stocking shelves
Now that the rest of the gang have had their fun making (albeit justified) remarks about the hotel's motives - please let me say, as a fellow addict, that I totally felt that gesture. *Thank* you. It is a virtue to be optimistic in this day and age.
They just want more money.
still, replacing alcohol with non-alcoholic drinks is more effort than i would except from soulless company, thats for sure good service
10$ for the lime
Pfft, maybe 15 years ago, partner. $35 now š
I thought they were all alcoholic for like 5 minutes
Guys guys what if it's an all included hotel and the mini fridge is free why is no one thinking about that?
I'm not sure IDK why it immediately has to be a negative perspective. Given the context of the post this seems like an over the top kind gesture. OP isn't forced to take anything from the fridge anyways.
Yeah and I feel like if the fridge wasn't free to take they wouldn't put all this stuff in there.
And even somehow if this wasn't free, OP still benefits greatly by not being tempted by the alcohol. I see it as very positive
Yes yes that's very true and looking at the fridge seeing that must be encouraging to continue the recovery progress
I would call the receptionist back like "bitch do you understand what EMPTY means??"
The receptionist is not at fault here
Blaming front desk for the mini fridge is like asking your waitress why the fuck she cooked your steak wrong.
no you wouldn't
No I wouldn't:(
So I says I says I says..... ..... .... š ... .... š .... .... ^^biiiiiiiitch DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT EMPTY MEANS?
Can you explain pls?
All non-alcoolic drinks.
Thx
Me thinks deep advertising.
All great mixers.
Come on, we all know this a domestic fridge in a private household. Which minibar would give you a water carafe, two limes and a ginger shot that have already been open? š
Jack Monroe is also something of a pathological liar, so that wouldn't surprise me
If Jack Monroe is saying this happened then it definitely didnāt.
Itās not a coincidence they have all that on hand. Why leave it empty when they can pack it up and over charge you. But, hey at least they actually took the alcohol out as requested.
Yeah wanting to still make profit by selling you a bunch of shit is wholesome I guess.
OP finds a $7 charge on their bill for opening the fridge.
Is it ok to have an open container of water in a fridge?
theyāre x10 normal retail price bc they are generous š«¶
Aww they filled the minibar with mixers instead
nice advertisement! (oh look, most of the comments are highlighting literal brand names!)
First takeaway: Great, no alcohol. Respect. Second takeaway: .... Great, so now I have to take EVERYTHING out just to put my own (non-alcoholic) drinks in there.

This is just a normal at home fridge. 100%.
It's Jack Monroe ,one of Britains premier grifters. I very much doubt this is true.
Man a lot of you are crazy cynical
completed :0
$5 says this set off the sensor and charged your account for the items they replaced and the employee didn't check because they are so burned out they forgot what room they just serviced. I'm not jaded or anything.
YAKULT!!!!!
We seeĀ your alcohol addiction so we suggest you add a sugar one on top
This is a regular fridge and no Minibar in a hotel. Another bs post to get attention and clicks.
Is this wholesome? Even OP doesn't think it is wholesome
Fuck off Rebecca
Oh, this again. Great gesture for the celebrity that took the picture, but would the hotel go to those lengths for a pleb? Probably not.
Why are people so desperate for attention
"No problem. We'll overcharge you for other things."
"we're getting that money ā¤ļø"
A 3star hotel would give you a 2for1 coupon to get you back on track
Should have put some nice crystal in there for him
it was supposed to be empty, you were looking for alcohol
Why even open the fridge š
To put something in it?
Habit, or making sure it really is empty
I mean an alcoholic who needs to request no alcohol in their presence is gonna open the fridge at some point, and then kick themselves for doing so because they know exactly what they were gonna do if there was booze in there.

I would cry
YAKULT
I donāt recognize a single thing
I would prefer those š
Bro Yakult is an absolute W move by the hotel. They know whatās good
They did exactly what you asked for. Very wholesome. So thoughtful.
wow
Wholesome capitalism
They still want your money, yeah
This doesnāt even look like a mini bar fridge. Open water carafe?
Went to so many hotels never seen a fridge like thisā¦
wow
