You're probably looking for [Cy's Hoof & Horn](https://www.cyshoofandhorn.com/) in Sedgewick. Technically not in Wichita, but it's just a few minutes outside of town. Very easy drive and no more difficult to get to than any other restaurant you might choose to eat at that doesn't just happen to be next to whatever hotel or whatever you're staying at.
Usually I'd be more likely to recommend Scotch & Sirloin or Chester's Chophouse (both of which a lot of people will tell you are "too expensive" and that you should "just go to Texas Roadhouse instead"), but neither of those are anywhere close to a "hole in the wall."
I travel for work and Texas Roadhouse used to be one of my go to’s but no longer.
It’s always been loud but so many of their locations have become just obnoxiously loud. It’s become a deal breaker for me.
Saltgrass and Longhorn is where it’s at.
Worst service I’ve ever had at any restaurant was at Saltgrass. Overpriced and poor service. At least at Longhorn and TR you get free bread. Avoid Saltgrass.
Dang that sucks.
One thing I’ve learned in 8 years of weekly travel and hundreds of restaurants, you can get bad service absolutely anywhere.
Longhorn is probably my top choice but I’ve had bad experiences there at various locations. Not many, but it has happened.
But I don’t eat bread anyway and my meals are paid for by work so the bread/cost are not factors for me.
I'd go Longhorn. Chester's if you don't mind spending and want a more upscale environment.
6S and Scotch aren't bad steaks per-say, but you're paying for the name. The steaks are on the same level as the aforementioned at a considerably inflated price.
I've only been to 6S once not too long after they opened and it was literally like I was being served Applebees quality food in a school gymnasium fundraiser setting (but at fine dining prices), absolutely no idea how or why anyone eats there more than once or how it stays in business.
On the other hand, I haven't had anything but great experiences and great food at S&S. I mean, I do love me some Texas Roadhouse (don't get me wrong here), but there's a pretty big difference between the way they prepare and cook their steaks, and what S&S does. Two completely different approaches. Roadhouse grills relatively fresh cuts of average quality steak slathered in an SPG. They do it really well, but it's really just the same process you or I might do if we were buying a steak a Dillon's and cooking it at home. S&S sous vides much nicer aged cuts with a lot less seasoning for a much MUCH more delicate and tender steak. The experience of eating both is great, but they are completely different. It's almost like two completely different foods IMO.
I was honestly shocked at just how badly they missed on every single metric, but the weird fucking bingo parlor ambiance in there definitely takes the cake for me.
It's like eating at a VFW hall or something.
I've eaten at Taco Bells that felt more upscale.
If Longhorn is guilty of anything, it's that they season the holy shit out of their steaks. \*I\* don't mind it, but I'm sure there are others out there who might.
I have never paid for a meal at Longhorn, because they screwed it up so bad every time. Then they served us rancid... No exaggeration - actually rancid steak. Never going back.
Second for Bella Luna - they have a surprisingly excellent filet mignon. Not “hole in the wall”, per se, but not a place you’d expect for a solid steak.

I believe this is the correct answer.
Cys Hoof and Horn in sedgwick. Great steaks and the best chicken fried steak I've ever had.
We used to have this. It was called Doc’s and it was glorious.
Their garlic salad was the bomb
NuWays garlic salad isn’t bad… reminds me of Docs
I passed it the other day and it made me sad. That garlic salad too.
NuWays garlic salad isn’t bad… reminds me of Docs
Man, do I miss Siesta Steak Lounge
Harry’s Uptown has some pretty decent steak. And it’s divey as fuck.
Surprisingly, this cowtown is not really a good place to get a steak.
Savute’s on N Broadway had great steaks a few years ago. I’m not sure about now though.
I went about a year ago and the quality is way way waaaaaay down.
Omalleys is a hole in wall bar that serves steak...pretty good too if I do say so
has anyone tried Forged yet? it came to mind for the title but i’ve never been so i can’t speak to it
Too expensive
Hole in the wall, Vegas Video. Steak, Texas Roadhouse. Salt Grass has better sides and dessert. My family used to raise beef, so I'm biased.
Trying to stay away from the chains, as I’ve got both Longhorn and Texas RH local to me back home.
The filet mignon at Bella Vita's is one of my favs.
Only place in town I've tried that was worth not making the steak at home myself was Newport - it is a little more pricey/upscale though.

Same. It's a constant roar of people trying to talk over the loud music.
George's french bistro has a great steak. It's a little more upscale but for not being a steak house it's one of the best steaks in the city.
I don’t know if it’s considered hole in the wall, but Fat Ernie’s is great food for great prices. They have a great kc strip there

No need to burn the place. It'll burn down, anyway.

This guy Stevens
I found Longhorn to be pricey but it was a very solid steak. I ate too much there and regretted it.

Ajs music room and Dirty D's both have a steak special during the week
Surprised no one has suggested Hangar One by the airport ... been there once and it was amazing
Try it again it’s atrocious
Once was enough for me, I usually give a place a couple chances...not that
The best steak in town is not at a hole in the wall place, it's at Texas Roadhouse
Unfortunate, but true. Plus amazing rolls.
I'd rate longhorn better (and more consistent) than Roadhouse. It's also easier to carry on a conversation there.
I have never paid for a meal at Longhorn, because they screwed it up so bad every time. Then they served us rancid... No exaggeration - actually rancid steak. Never going back.
My house. I can cut a hole in the wall and feed it through if that helps. Lol.
Bella Luna, Sabor or Siena Tuscan might fit the bill there.
Do y’all really not understand what a “hole-in-the-wall” is?
Ya most recommendations are chains and upscale steakhouses
Second for Bella Luna - they have a surprisingly excellent filet mignon. Not “hole in the wall”, per se, but not a place you’d expect for a solid steak.
