That's in lieu of a pantry wall, gotta be. Obviously more to this kitchen (where's the range/oven/cooktop/refer/hood).
That horizontal grain match is SICK and God help you if you drill a handle wrong on one of 'em.
Oh I didn't even notice the grain matching, holy hell! I don't work with wood myself, I am just an admirer, but I do make quilts and garments and matching patterns is a skiiiillll!
I mean your cabinet work is fantastic, but to lose that amount of counter space seems nuts to me. Especially with that color blue, it just looks super odd.
I’ve seen cabinets like these before and it’s basically a mini butlers pantry; the bottom shelf is all the stuff you would have in that counter space anyway (coffee maker, toaster, air fryer, blender, etc) there are plugs inside so everything is ready to go and then can be easily ‘tidied away’ by closing the doors. It’s not how I use my kitchen space but I get it.
I'm really confused by this. So you pull the toaster out 4" and have it roasting the shelves above? The coffee maker and kettle steam it all?
It's probably built exactly how the client wanted it, and the craftsmanship is nice, but boy do I hate the design.
Sometimes the bottom shelf is a slide out but usually it’s exactly as it would be if you have your appliances sitting under the uppers. I never move my toaster to make toast and it doesn’t burn the bottom of my cabinets. I don’t move my coffee machine and it doesn’t steam the surrounding cabinets. If you google ‘hidden coffee bar’ it’s a very common type of cabinet like this on a smaller scale
Are your cabinets solid wood? Mine sure aren't. I've got about 10 inches of space in front of the cupboards in my kitchen, and I pull my coffee maker, toaster, and kettle out when I use them.
If the shelves were solid walnut or something I definitely wouldn't want to heat/steam warp them, that's all.
Beautiful!
But honestly, I'd hate to put walnut into a kitchen knowing that someone will eventually gut it and redo it to the latest trend on HGTV. Even if that's in 100 years.
Why didn't they want a space under the upper cabinets? It seems like those counter spaces aren't really useful since the doors swing into that space.
My first question!!

I would hope they’re push-to-open
Couldn't work in my house even though peanut butter kinda matches walnut. 😁

Tbh, not my design- I'm just the builder
Because they didn't and paid for it. I never ask anymore ...
But sticking vertical grain next to horizontal with one huge open centerpiece knot in the overhead makes it a Dr Seuss build

Grain matching is immaculate. Great work
So much more interesting than the all-white hospital ER school of kitchen decor.

Thanks! Second attempt at glass doors, they are leagues better than my first- so bad i didnt even take pictures
Clients with a big budget and taste. How nice. Must be fun to work with walnut.
Very, going to miss it- next set is oak
Who the hell can afford that much walnut...
A professor, a doctor, a vet clinic owner....not an average cabinet builder, I can tell ya that😎
Looks good! What’s your process for the doors? Are they hardwood slab doors, or are they sequence matched walnut ply?
1" slab doors, only walnut ply is a couple box sides, and box liners
You’re not worried about wood movement on the slab doors?
I guess not, 1/8" reveals
I don't see the point of a 6" deep counter.
The insides of the cabinets for all counter items. There's an outlet in every bay
That looks beautiful!
Honestly good job and cool grain matching but I don't like it at all, the design, the small counter, the colors...

Thank you, I would agree- but paid & craftsmanship is the goal here🙂
