I don't recommend it for your first time playing. It is very different from the way the regular retail game plays.

Repealer

Very different how? It has the same flow - either dungeon or quest to max level, then raid dungeon to upgrade gear. I'd honestly say it's even more straightforward TBH.

Snivelss

They will be supremely disappointed by the power loss when going back to retail wow.

ifhysm

Especially the speed boosts, cogwheel gems for movement spells, and dragon riding at level 10.

SuspiciousWasabi3665

Not terribly disappointed by dragonriding at level 10. TWW gives skyriding at level 15.

Unhappy-Mix-6246

You're too deep in the wow bubble to see how this is wildly different to the normal game for a beginner

Repealer

I haven't played since WoD and came back for Pandaria:remix, I'm not deep in the WoW bubble at all. I'm just saying that it flows pretty similar unless there's been big changes in gearing since WoD I'm not aware of?

x0nnex

From what little I have seen, I cannot at all recommend Remix if you want to play and experience World of Warcraft. Remix is a VERY different experience, fun in it's own way. Dragonflight (that leads into The War Within expansion) is the recommended way to play.

Timbodo

I think it's a worse new player experience compared to both retail and classic but it's fun. However it's only fun, because it's different and most players got used to the old formula and we didn't really got new content in retail for a while. Remix itself is very broken in terms of balancing and as a new player the regular content is obviously new for you. I would recommend leveling one character in retail first with maybe a bit of endgame (\~20-30hrs) and after that you can play remix to still get some of the exclusive cosmetic rewards and the experience.

GMFinch

If you tried retail after remix you would be terribly upset how slow you feel

Both-Throat448

Not too worried about this being super fast paced vs retail being a slower grind. Just want to feel what it’s like to have fun in the game to know if the full game would be worth getting into

A12L472

Remix is not really reflective of the main game. Retail is actually very speedy / not grindy (unlike classic wow) - it’s just that remix has kicked it up several notches into zoomer territory. I’d recommend the main game, it is very new player friendly (for the most part - there is some issue with continuity as there are several simultaneous expansions in game at the same time, for different time periods of the game)

Ulu-Mulu-no-die

It's not the pace, retail is fast paced too, it's that it's a VERY different way of playing the game. Gearing is very different, the gem system doesn't exist in retail, and you get to use abilities of other classes that you normally can't, and some other abilities that straight up don't exist in the regular game, and you won't be able to tell the difference if you don't know the game. That's on top of having a background from Dragonflight that you won't be able to understand, tho that's a minor detail. It is indeed fun, but you will end up very confused and overwhelmed when going back to retail, if you never played *any* version of WoW before, that's why they put a warning when you create a remix char "this is an advanced way of playing the game". My suggestion is, start playing Dragonflight for 3-4 weeks to get the basics, then try remix if you want, the event lasts 3 months.

whitetrashadjacent

You can play for free up till lvl 20 on as many characters as you want. To see if you like it. You can do both a regular character and a remix

QTGavira

Its a completely different experience and not at all representative of what retail is like. Even the faster gearing aside. You dont really engage with anything that also carries over to retail. You dont need to know the ins and outs of your class because your gems do 90% of the work, so at no point will you know what youre doing right or wrong, you wont have these gems in retail, so its already a completely different experience there. As a first time player its probably even a net negative to start with remix in this sense as youll get used to things in Remix which dont work on retail, so youll have to unlearn and entire way of playing even while on the same class. You dont really do any of the raid/dungeon mechanics unless theyre hard coded by making a boss invincible at a certain HP treshold like Lei Shen transitions. And even then some AoE abilities the bosses do are scaled so highly that you just die to shit you wouldnt die to on retail. Giving you a massive false view of what raiding or dungeons are actually like in retail. I dont think you can really use remix as a gauge for wether getting into retail is worth it or not because of how different they are as experiences. Remix is a pure numbers race whereas retail is more strategic (numbers are also important obviously, but you wont have one guy doing the entire raid by themselves).

Relnor

As long as you keep in mind that this is really not representative of the "real" game in most ways. My worry for a new player would be that you'd then find the regular game slow and sluggish in comparison which it really isn't, WoW combat is fast, responsive and honestly best in industry for MMOs (sorry haters), but stats get so ridiculous even with a remix character you didn't grind on, you might feel differently if your 1st experience was remix. Maybe give the regular game a try first. The event is still here for 3 months.

cub4nito

Is a huge mistake dont do it. The biggest issue is returning to retail, you feel like a turtle since in Remix you get a lot of speed buff and you walk faster. Is a terrible feeling believe me.

Chocolatelover4ever

I highly recommend not doing it. It’s very different and way faster paced than retail. You should start with the regular game first.

Etamalgren

Dear god, no, don't try remix as a complete beginner. You'll either get horrendously spoiled by the ridiculous stats you'll get or absolutely dumpstered by the scaling with very little inbetween. It -is- a fun game mode, but you'll probably want to play retail for a bit more grounded experience.

lyeesia

It's completely different than the normal game... We're overpowered as hell, have things we don't have outside of this game mode. It'd create a false picture of the game in your mind. If you can accept the fact you'll be *massively* nerfed after remix is ended then give it a try, ofc.

WurstKaeseSzenario

MoP remix plays like farming old content in retail. You get OP pretty fast, skill barely matters, and most mechanics the gameplay in retail is based on can be ignored. It's fun. Try it if you want to, but don't expect the actual game to feel the same way.

San4311

No, not really. Its a great for-fun gamemode, but it gives a really bad perception of the game to someone new. With the gems and cloak, contrary to popular belief on reddit, the power levels are totally different, and combat is generally just not that fun in group content as you melt everything by just facerolling on the keyboard.

tboskiq

I know this is the worst answer in the world but yes... and no lol. For a solid bit it'll allow you to get a feel for the game without needing to worry much about gear, where to go, how to use things like group finder, not have to worry about the real currency or repairs, and learn the basics of class. Since you level so quickly, and are overpowered you get a feel for the talent tree and what is and isn't working faster. That last point, imo as someone who has a major alt problem and levels characters constantly, the new talent system is great for end game, but does not set up new players for success with too many of the spec basics being tied to talents. For example, a new player could accidentally never take a main ability in their talents where as before it was something they learned passively such as Arms colossus smash. There are many who will probably be like, "Why are you not reading a guide?" But what other game do you pick up and go right to a guide for? New players are not gonna do that. Alternatively, at the last 10 levels there is a massive difficulty spike, which does happen in the real game as well, but with how remix gear works you're very much less prepared to deal with it. In the main game you could potentially do an entire end game zone that'll only level you once or twice, but gear you up to take on that and next level, where as in remix you might get 2 levels and only replace 2 slots of gear due to RNG leaving you a piece of wet poo poo paper. Which I think for a new player especially would be an incredibly difficult hurdle to get past. You have vet WoW players complaining about the difficulty spike in remixes last few levels. Also, remix characters are locked in to this expansion until the event is over. I know a lot of ^ won't make sense without any knowledge of the game, but if you're on free WoW that only let's you go up to level 20 I'd absolutely do a remix character to get a feel then go in to real game, but if you buy a sub I'd continue with the main game character and save on remix for a bit.

TheRobn8

No, because remix is set up so you speed run MoP. There is no cloak buffs, gems or abilities in retail liek that, so if you do remix first then retail, you'll be in for a shock

Artrysa

Absolutely not. It's a messy, chaotic experience and could lead to bad habits and a warped view of the game.

Ruseludo

Well it would certainly give you a bunch of transmog/outfits and mounts that you'll be lacking on being new. It's very straight forward. You do quests and stuff, and the only loot you get is gear and stuff to attach to your gear.

New_Zookeepergame204

You SHOULD play Remix and you will definitely regret missing out. That said, while it IS very fun and you can get a lot out of it, you need to remember it's a timed event that will end and a lot of the power you get from it is temporary. The gameplay is somewhat different from normal WoW too. You'll still keep your characters, cosmetics and levels when Remix ends though.

Harucifer

I'd say Remix is a good "test-drive" to get a feeling for the game. Remix is akin to Go-Carts while Retail is actual driving with rules and limitations you you must respect. One example: Remix allows you to run raids with a daily reset. On retail the reset is weekly.

heyzeus_

It's a good way to get in and just start playing, the tutorial in regular retail can be a bit of a slog. However, the bulk of Remix will feel pretty different compared to the standard retail experience.  In my opinion, the best parts of wow are the max level group content: challenging raids, mythic+ dungeons, and (relatively) balanced pvp. None of these are in Remix. What Remix does well is make leveling more exciting and rewarding, especially on characters after your first. It's also come at a time where all the raids and m+ dungeons are repeated from earlier in the expansion, so people who have been playing for the past year and a half aren't getting much new content. It's a nice way to keep the game fresh in an otherwise slow period.  If you're interested, give it a shot. Just be aware it's not a good snapshot of the game as a whole.

Obie-two

These people are steering you wrong.  Yes it is worth trying.  It will give you a good feel of how questing works, the impact of spells and abilities, class identity. Its a very good way to experience wow, but it’s not the only way to experience it

FullMetalApe

You can definitely try, however the remix experience is not the same as the retail experience.

highonpetrol

Yes it's good. Raids are easy cause everyone does crazy damage

PlasticAngle

No, remix would ruin your expectation for wow. Like i played a DH in remix and now i can't stand anything in retail anymore, i was so fast and now i'm slow af

Jiijeebnpsdagj

I'd recommend Cata classic=>Retail=>Remix. There is just too much going on in retail and even more in Remix. You'd be introduced to the game in a better more beginner friendly way and if you want more speed, you can go to retail after

Darth_Csikos

nope. maybe cata classic is the best for new experience i would say (even tho i dont play it)
