That sounds like you got your worth out of the controller. Most cheaper controllers don't even last as long and you spend more replacing it lol.

SPEEDFREAKJJ

You got almost 5 years out of it? Or you have used it for a long time in a broken state? If all those things happened at the 5 year mark that's not bad. I go about 9 months before needing to run to best buy for a swap. Bumpers fail before much else can go wrong.

crazydiavolo

Same, lol. First time I had no idea of the issues and it began to fell apart just as the warrant expired. The bundled series x controller that came with my console bought in 2020 still works like a charm.

mixedd

>The bundled series x controller that came with my console bought in 2020 still works like a charm. Yeah, same here. Only thing I did, changed stick rubbers, as my kid chewed them :D >First time I had no idea of the issues and it began to fell apart just as the warrant expired. My Elite 2 worked fine for a year, then got drift on a left stick, right bumper started to fail, and rubber grip to peel off, so I have no clue how OP went 5 years with it. Maybe used once a week, mine was handled with care, but used every day tough, until I killed it trying to replace pots and lifted a trace while desoldering

NeoStoned

Bumpers are super easy to buy&replace for my elite1

SPEEDFREAKJJ

The fix for series 2 would be just as easy if they just sold those plastic U shaped inserts. They form an indent which causes the bumper to not respond after so much use. Super easy fix for any average person. But it's better $ for people to have to go spend nearly 200 on a new controller rather than a few bucks for some little plastic pieces. If anybody from MS lurks around here and can get ahold of some of those plastic pieces I would gladly buy a bag of them.

Vegiemighty

Do they need to be in there? I saw a YouTube vid that said it didn’t matter , so when I open mine up to give it a clean, I didn’t put them back in and I haven’t had any problems, it’s been 3 months since clean

FlREWATCH

me when i realize that a piece of tech gets shitty after half a decade of use

donutdude47

I didn't suddenly have all of these problems today. Most of these issues happened within the first year.

KarlNarx

Why would you call it a review 5 years in then?

RS_Games

To make it look dramatic for engagement

donutdude47

Because I've had it for 5 years? What do you mean?

Glittering_Lime9001

Why would you use a shitty controller for 5 years, you make no sense, most of the problems occurred in the first year? So you decided to keep using it for another 4?

ohio, when the ohio nightmare attacks

TheExit148

I’ve had my elite v2 for 4-5 years and the only issue I had was the tiny bit of felt that is on the triggers came loose/folded over. It caused sticking of the trigger. I opened it up, removed it and all good. It’s bit louder than before but problems. I game a good amount with and basically need to get new stick replacements as the rubber has worn down substantially. Still work fine but they’ll start to get thumb slip I would imagine.

Cristiano7676

I am having the same issues with the bumpers and the rubber starting peeling off. It is a shame once apart from that issues is a good controller.

whatsadiorama

I've had an elite one since 2015. And I fucking love it. Not a massive gamer but it was well used. When I moved in with my now wife and stepkid it got used a lot more by the kid and her mates. I sent it off for a refurbishment with EB Games a few years ago and it did come back better iirc one of the bumpers was sticking. Since then all the rubber has degraded but buttons all still work, occasionally a thumbstick sticks. So it's had considerable use, especially by greasy handed kids lin recent years ol. Pretty impressed with it. I'd love a new one but don't game enough to justify. Out of curiosity what's a decent alternative?

NeoStoned

I’ve used my xbox elite1 for 8 years now and only problems have been the back grips come off and my left bumper broke but was easily repaired for 10$

NeoStoned

Which happened about 2-3 years after buying

I'm using an Elite Series 1 controller. I think its 8 years old this year. The left bumper has broken, but still works fine. Everything else is working perfectly, I use it daily and for some pretty intense gaming sessions. Have I just been lucky with the life span of mine? Admittedly I've changed the case and grip handles, not because they were worn, but because i wanted a cool coloured controller.

AnotherInsaneName

The bumper is actually an extremely easy fix if you're interested in doing it yourself. I bought like 10 replacement bumpers on eBay for 12 bucks.

Shreeder

I got my elite series 1 the day it came out and it’s still going strong. 1000s of hours of gaming on it over the nearly decade I’ve owned it. Only have had to replace the sticks since the rubber was coming off

Twistedxslayer1

Yeah I'll replace it myself, probably with some shiny type ones. Was debating getting a S2 Elite for the Bluetooth connection

Conflict_NZ

Also got mine on launch, the only issue I have with it is that the rubber cover for the trigger switch fell off, the rest is in perfect condition besides some light wear on the thumbsticks. I'd say I easily have over 1000 hours on it. Also have the Halo Infinite edition, same problem with the trigger switch but the rest is also perfect.

[deleted]

I got all of this plus a shitty A button within a year you got super lucky

dubstateofmind

I’ve had mine for about as long with half the issues you listed. I feel like i got my money worth considering it has lasted 5 years.

McCandlessDK

I am 18 months into mine and it is in mint condition. To be honest, if I can get three years out of it, I would say it is well worth the price.

Gwent4Geralt

Mine needs to have the right thumb stick piece replaced. I've had that thing for the last 3 years and the only thing to have happened to it, is that I dropped it and now I don't have the RS button.

Dodoloco25

I have an electric circuit cleaner. Sticks drifting, spray it. Buttons not tactile? Spray it. My normal xbpx controller had drift for a month and the left trigger would stick. Not anymore (knock on wood). They fix most things. I have had a switch since 2019. It's known for drifting and other issues. I only sent through one pair. I did repair a previous pair of joycons but that is it really.

[deleted]

Clean your controller, buttons & bumpers get covered in gunk. I’ve used Elite controllers since they were released. Had maybe 3 bumpers break, got it repaired & cleaned. Works fine again.

Flat-Inspector2634

My wife bought me one probably about 5 years ago too actually and I had issues with the RB button just being too sentitive and the panel peeling off like you said. I didnt really use it too much and one day a kid dropped it and I think broke the rumble on it so its loud and offset. I think she paid like 150 for it and while I'd never buy a controller at that price it was decent enough.

NotFromMilkyWay

It was released 4.5 years ago.

Psebcool

To replace front panel (and back panel if you want), go xtremerate shop. They selling nice replacement parts for elite 1 & 2.

OmeletteDuFromage95

I'm at about 4 years now with mine and so far can confirm that it's still working pretty well. Only complaints I guess I could have is that the rubber, though feeling nice, has smoothened out so it gets a bit slippery if my hands get a little sweaty. Otherwise, everything still works just as well and the battery life is still ridiculously long. No regrets on the purchase, still the best controller I've ever used. I do have to wonder though, your other comment suggests that you experienced most of these issues within your first year... which sounds like a defective product that you could or should have had replaced within that same warranty period. Instead you continued to use it for 4 more years...?

Countdown3

Mine didn't last 5 months lol.

jgillesp21

I just fixed a bumper on my elite 2 by squirting a bit of WD40 on the sensor.

GAWDAMN69

I swear people on this sub just cave man their controllers I've had the same Xbox one controller since the first ones came out with the headphone jack and it has literally no issues minus a cosmetic one around the dpad where it's faded out and I game every single day for the most part.

Conflict_NZ

I wish there could be a study done on this. I have controllers dating back to the N64, never had stick drift across 30+ controllers, never had issues with buttons not working or sticking, no peeling parts etc. There has to be some kind of combination of luck and usage that cause all these issues. I remember one guy posting about his Elite Controller "bubbling" and it turned out he moisturised his hands like crazy.

E6Hooch

Yours lasted 2 years?! I was going through an Elite 2 every 6 months until I gave up on the brand

MobileVortex

lol yea the controller is the issue lol.

whatsadiorama

Jesus, check out money bags McGee over here. Do you chuck em around in rage or just heavy use? I'd be pissed if I got 6 months out if a ~$250 controller

E6Hooch

I wasn't happy. I got an extended warranty on my second. when I used that warranty to get my 3rd in under 2 years, I swore it was my last. the elite 2's are horrible quality. I definitely did not throw it around or abuse it.

whatsadiorama

Thanks. What do you use now? If the elite 2 which would be what I'd look at is shit, what would you recommend I look at?

E6Hooch

I got the turtle beach stealth ultra. Will never get stick drift and tested for 5 million clicks

crazydiavolo

How long have you been using the ultra? Had any issues? Have heard that people had issues with it's deadzone or with the controller some weeks after, but dunno. It kinda of brushed me off buying one when it launched.

E6Hooch

I've had no issues yet. Been using it since Jan.

whatsadiorama

Righto, will have a squizz at them. Cheers

barbietattoo

The whole controller seems to do a really good job at making an amazing first impression, with all the parts which you interact with feeling high quality and well made. They very clearly however, did not test these materials in real world setting nor used components that are built to last. I’ve had mine a few months, I really like it so far. I’m just not expecting much to last very long considering the price.
