Why is my GPS telling me it’ll take 1hr to get from 406 Lodge to Slough Creek and 5hrs to get back?
Could I drive from 406 in Gardiner to Slough Creek?
It’s like this for every drive I search. 1hr to Lamar Valley and 3hrs back. The heck?
Agreed! Was just there last week and got to slough creek around 6:30. Saw the butte pack chase a grizzly away from the den
Didn’t see any moose in yellowstone but saw three in Tetons on the moose ponds trail
Last week there were wolves in Hayden Valley visible from just north of this overlook. However they were a long way from the road so a spotting scope was needed to see them.

Very cool but definitely not hunting pika! Pika live at high elevations in talus rock fields, not meadows, and are generally fairly rare. They wouldn’t be in eastern Lamar. Most likely they were hunting ground squirrels, mice, or voles!
As others have said, Slough for wolves. They're not usually easily visible but when I was there last week people with scopes trained on them were happy to share knowledge and a look through their equipment.
Have not had luck with moose in Yellowstone. Saw them in both Tetons and Glacier in our recent trip.
If you want to see moose, they were seen a lot in the northeast corner, from Trout Lake to Cooke City. There's a young bull, a cow, and two that hang together -- at least when I saw them in June. The cow was checking out the grass behind one of the hotels in Cooke one evening. If you come in from the northeast entrance you might see them and, of course, drive another 28 miles west will put you at Slough Creek for wolves.
Good luck!
We saw them in Hayden valley last week hunting down bison about an hour before bison. Heard they were there in the morning also. Need some good binoculars.
There's a park news paper...not sure where you find it. Photos of all the wolves, where thier pack hangs out, they have numbers associated to them for identification. So for example it will call the the Nez Pierce pack... introduced in the upper meadows of the Nez Pierce creek.... and pictures of the pack, some with collar, some without...etc. And there are several areas... I would assume that these area are good.
You need binoculars... as your wolf experience is likely off in the distance. You scan the tree line across distance valleys and meadows. Stopping at every pullout in Haden Valley, looking across the valley a half mile at the tree line... might see something.
Maybe see if you can walk up Nez Pierce...bring bacon
Slough creek for wolves
I play the video game WolfQuest which is set in Yellowstone and forgot this was a real place LOL! Will try and check out

It's probably incorrectly listing one of the park roads as closed.
There is a park road closed for police investigation into
Thanks! That’s reassuring :) My husband would not be thrilled about a 3am wakeup call!
The 3 AM wake-up call for Haleakala though.

The Wapiti pack is in Hayden Valley. I saw them there last week as well
Hayden Valley is the answer
Saw 2 wolves in the east end of Lamar Valley. They were hunting pica.

Maybe voles. They are about the size of a squirrel but burrow underground.
Probably ground squirrels then!

Saw a moose by inspiration point in grand teton 2 days ago, right off trail.
Tetons is a likely place for moose - always see them there
