Surprised me that the Zone lasted this long, but still sad that they canned it.
How's YTV lately? Is it still Kids sitcoms heavy like in 2010's?
*edit, phone keyboard with chubby fingers
Its mostly mid cartoons, daily movies and some live action sitcom stuff, at least they arent marathoning the same 2-4 shows everyday like most US stations are now doing.
Yeah it's pretty much just online media becoming the dominant force. YTV targets a youth demographic and that demographic isn't terribly interested in live TV when they have so many other options available to them at any given time. They gotta pay the bills though so they pretty much just stick to whatever brings in enough advertising dollars to keep the lights on.
I think part of it could also be a change in leadership and/or ownership. I haven't kept up with the network's current events to see if and when there were changes to the network's chain of command/business model, but from what I've noticed with other networks (i.e. Sundance Channel, IFC), that's what leads to a decrease in the quality of programs as the new model becomes strictly fast-food-type profit-making. Maybe it'll make a rebound at some point. I hope. When I was a kid, that was my dream job; being a host on The Zone :)
It's not YTV but it blows my mind that Corner Gas had weird cult following in Australia of all places.
Can-con is cheap as hell, but there are so many breakout hits. Letterkenny, Trailer Park Boys.
I have a ReBoot patch on my jacket.
There was so much innovation.
Do we still even have that rule that you can't show as much adverts to kids as the US? Like that's why they had hosts, to fill time meant for ads.
I haven't been keeping track, but I'd not be surprised if we loosened regulations somewhere like always happens.
It's pretty cool, eh? I mean the quick and dirty rush to fill that extra time shaped the whole ytv format and made it the nationwide cultural curio that it is.
That's sad. I spent my whole childhood watching ytv. But I guess I'm not surprised. I remember my parents cancelled cable around 2009 because it was so expensive for just the basic one. It probably got even more expensive later on. Plus, all the different and cheaper streaming services came out in the early 2010s, and with no commercials, took away a lot of potential viewers. I'm honestly surprised it lasted for so long.
It's funny there's one lady that taped everything!!!! Amd she's considered to have the best record of tv of that age..... idk what her name is but she should he googlable.
My buddy saw Carlos downtown in Vancouver. He asked him if he was Carlos from YTV and Carlos basically told him to shut the fuck up and go away because he didn't want to be noticed.
Wack.
I saw Carlos at a grocery store a few days ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
erm... what the scallop
Outlandishly so
As a kid, I also had a crush on PJ Katie, you know, of PJ Katie's farm? I bet she was awesome to be around.
Edit:
[This shit is so my type that she may as well be the origin of it all for me](https://alchetron.com/cdn/pj-katies-farm-fe85d450-a197-4328-94a9-9a982fed644-resize-750.jpeg)
TV as a medium is dying. Who needs television channels when everything you want to watch is on streaming services like Netflix or Disney+ or even YouTube.
If it aint Phil and Snit or Paul (I think that was his name?) and Elvaze (I don't know how to spell Elvis's name with Hispanic phrasing but it was basically Phil talking behind an Elvis bust.)
Then it aint The Zone!
This made me look up the site for schedule info and found this: Sugar Favourite Moments in The Zone
https://www.ytv.com/shows/the-zone/video/sugar-fave-moments-in-the-zone/516bdea8-fc71-11ec-8e24-0242ac110005/
Pat and Jenny were my original Zone hosts until Jenny left and Pat locked himself in a box in the parking lot for a week to get a new cohost and Sugar came along and saved him.
I wish we still had the zone for nostalgia, in my imagination to keep up with times they'd have a live YouTube channel / next best online stream broadcasting shows with their hosts but that's only a dream lol
They canned the zone hosts last April. What a shame.

Man, what the hell happened to canadian TV post early 2000's?
Internet
That can't be it. I mean we were making some major contributions to TV back in the day and now we're back to our own isolated brand of TV.
Youtube basically took all the view time for children, and now also apps like Disney+.

Wow, that is news to me. I never knew we had that rule.

digital channel expansion. it killed it all.
That is sad news

WTH that's news to me. That sounds so stupid why?
They didnt want to spend extra money anymore on the hosts. Shame because I was still watching the zone sometimes.
The zone is a permanent place in my soul where there is still a kid in front of a TV... watching beyblade and metabots.......
It’s really too bad the world didn’t do a better job of documenting every moment of tv
I’m there with you
And Pokémon , dragon ball Z and Tex Avery (which I watched waiting for pokemon to start)
Couldn't have put it better myself. It's a place for my inner kid to feel safe
It's funny there's one lady that taped everything!!!! Amd she's considered to have the best record of tv of that age..... idk what her name is but she should he googlable.
Anyone?
Anyone at all...?
Possibly the Keep It Weird Project?

Sugar?

That’s lame
I always used to see PJ Phil at the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto and he was very receptive to people fanboying to him.
Based Carlos
Buddy is still goated tho, loved him and Sugar
Dudes at ET Canada now. Probably has an ego after spending time around actual celebrities.
Now? ET Canada had been cancelled since Oct 2023 https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/et-canada-ending-18-seasons-1.6979727
This happened years ago
He probably was getting shit on at ET Canada
That could also make someone a little bitter i guess.
Thats not cool
He is one of the main hosts/corespondents on ET Canada these days.

Many many months ago. I’m guessing your mother is watching something else

Based reference
i still salty over them cancelling [Crunch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crunch_(TV_programming_block)) & replacing it with Zone Weekend
Crunch? MAN I’m still pissed that vortex was canned for crunch
Y’all remember brain wash
I remember when it was "The Alley".
I was there 3000 years ago...
Only on their IG. Sadly it ended a while ago. No announcement or anything
When did it end because I feel when my son watched it it was still on maybe around 2014-16?
Recently
Ah okay
Sugar was cute
Yep!
[You're welcome.](https://www.instagram.com/p/C8C5xo_yjom/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
Channel 25 is still a thing?
Sugar is still hot

More nostalgia PJ Jen was the hot one. Lol Now looking back I even think PJ Katie is hot when I was a kid I thought she is rather big.
PJ Katie just seems fun, too. She basically improvised that whole show. It's insane looking back on it.
Wtf they canceled it? Was there not many viewers?
canadian TV is basically rotting away at this point. Depressing. We were riding pretty high back in the 90's and early 2000's.
TV as a medium is dying. Who needs television channels when everything you want to watch is on streaming services like Netflix or Disney+ or even YouTube.
Wait YTV still exists?
Yeah it’s not as fun I watched recently when I was Back home for Easter visiting my family
If it aint Phil and Snit or Paul (I think that was his name?) and Elvaze (I don't know how to spell Elvis's name with Hispanic phrasing but it was basically Phil talking behind an Elvis bust.) Then it aint The Zone!
Nope. Once they we 90s kids grew up... It basically died.
Not really, they just canceled it last year...
I was gonna say my son was born in 11 and they had them in his time
Sugar + Patt > Sugar + Carlos
I always liked Pat. Pat never got enough love
Sugars voice still pierces my mind
We saw Sugars feet. I had to say it, but it's true.
Calm down Dan

Was gonna say two years ago I was in a hotel and it was still on
RiP YtV PJs 😥
Pat and Jenny were my original Zone hosts until Jenny left and Pat locked himself in a box in the parking lot for a week to get a new cohost and Sugar came along and saved him.
Mine was PJ Phil
I was just slightly too young for Phil, although I remember Snit but on Saturday mornings
I was born in 91 I don’t know what years you’d have to be born for Phil but he was there most of my childhood
84 here, Phil was my host (tho I technically started in the literal last weeks of the original 'Afterschool Zone'.)
Although I remember before Jenny was on the Zone she was on in the mornings with the fuzzpaws for PJ Jenny’s farm
Patt looks high as fuck.
He probably was
I wish we still had the zone for nostalgia, in my imagination to keep up with times they'd have a live YouTube channel / next best online stream broadcasting shows with their hosts but that's only a dream lol
She does
No more PJs
carlos did not age for the past 30 years
Zone still exists In Canada, but it’s just SpongeBob, Loudhouse, and random movies
No pjs tho
Who would you take the bone zone?
The zone should have ended in 2007 after sugar left and Carlos was left alone for a short while
