The location is ideal. My first apartment was on Washington Street and it’s a short walk from Lake Michigan. I would basically live in a shack if it was on this street.
I spent a lot of time in that church as a little kid. They did a stellar job remodelling it, and turning it into a home... but it must be hard to sell at that price point.
Did you? That’s so cool. We must be neighbors. I grew up in Spring Lake/Grand Haven. I’ve never been inside this church but I wish I had to the guts to try and book a walk through.
Are those the original stained glass windows? They aren’t the design I expected to see on church windows. gorgeous save of an old building rather than a tear down.
In 2018, it was reported to be a $3.8M house. [Terry and Rene French own a construction company. ](https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2018/08/grand_haven_church_transformed.html)
Well, *sure,* but these people have *taste.* LOL.
Honestly, I need to live with rich colors all around me, but I really love this conversion. They subtly highlighted that it used to be a church while making it a comfortable, easily liveable home. I would hit up Sherwin Williams to add color to the walls, and add vibrant textiles. But I could be very happy in this home. It's interesting, modern, and classy. Let me junk it up myself with my taxidermy and dark red velvet couches that could be changed out when I get bored, not with chandeliers and ornate stair railing.
The church-conversion in the original post screams of the gaudiness that new money often brings out in people.
Taxidermy would make it! I went in for a moving out sale so I never saw it full furnished but I don’t like the staging furniture that much myself in the pics. Great space, but I need some darkness to make it feel cozy
You would be surprised. They used to bury people right up against churches. My church is 250 years old and there are graves in a small 6'x6' plot right outside the door.
It looks like there is a grass strip between the door and the driveway too, which goes to the rear of the house where it looks like it has access to the garage again? It seems very cumbersome to get that car in / out anyway.
no expense spared on this one but looks like they are having some issues selling which isn't that surprising considering it's in small town MI on the lake there probably aren't that many people with that kind of money looking to live there.
up for sale in '18 for $3.8mil and has gone down to the current price since then, so on the market for 6yrs and lowering the price by more than a million.
There were some here in Norfolk VA abandoned. Beautiful old buildings build out of granite blocks. Really cool stuff. If I was a hundred millionaire I might go about restoring a few but alas I am not. Sad to seem them go.
The sky has been digitally replaced in every single photo. I remember when ordinary people would scoff at commercials and the lies and exaggerations that so often characterize them. Now it's those same fine people peddling those lies themselves...as if it's nothing.
I have always loved church to residence conversions, and would enjoy living in a former church, even though I'm not religious.
This is one of the nicest finish outs I've seen.
That curved door with stained glass! 👀
I found another one here: https://imgur.com/gallery/gate-on-austin-ave-waco-tx-JhXhsun
So striking!
Gorgeous! I would love to convert a small church into a home. Ironically I'm clergy and could never afford it. Although, one of my friends did convert his church into a kind of halfway house/resource center for folks leaving homelessness. He turned the youth room into showers, a bunch of the class rooms into apartments, etc. the back yard of the church was huge so they've built tiny homes in a village back there. Probably a better use than my dream of having a really cool bedroom in the choir loft, but a girl can dream
To each their own. But I would love it if they’d not eradicated most of the character from the original church. Much of it just looks like a new-construction McMansion. But thankfully they left the stained glass in place.
Wow! Never met anyone with a chandelier in the garage, lol! Well, maybe Liberace had one, but this is just very wowza! Wonder what price point the other houses in the 'hood average.
If you won’t sold on this property already. Go to the google street view. Go east down Washington street and check out the neighbors yard across the street.
Their garage is nicer than 98% of the homes I've ever lived in.
They have not one but two grand pianos.
This remodel is gorgeous, but the cost to furnish this place alone would break me. Let alone to heat, cool, maintain, etc.. It's definitely a dream house. Couldn't ever be a reality for me.

Too bad the surrounding area isn’t as expensive.
Edit: That sounded mean. I meant if they sell, it will probably be hard to get what they put into it. It is a gorgeous home, though. 🙂
I've always wanted to do this with an old church.
I'd replace the stained glass for Pagan and scientific art. Then I'd adopt kids so they'd live in the coolest house ever.
Meh. I think it could have been so much more beautiful inside. I don't understand all the white or the odd furniture but to each their own. I love the house itself. Just not the way its been remodeled.
It’s like minutes from Lakes Michigan though. It’s in a really safe area. Most Washington Street places are pretty nice, this one is just on the edge. There’s a downtown shopping area a little further up and then the lakeshore.
And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of room downstairs where the pews used to been.
Havin' all that room seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't have to take out their garbage for a long time.

There are a lot of things that need to be toned down like the two red chandeliers. There is way too much white.
But there are other things that I love. They made the stained glass windows functional. And, the other light fixture is beautiful. I think when their furniture is out, it won’t be as bad.
This is truly my local dream house. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/600-Washington-Ave-Grand-Haven-MI-49417/149741922_zpid/
I’m with you. I would hold some epic themed parties there.
The location is ideal. My first apartment was on Washington Street and it’s a short walk from Lake Michigan. I would basically live in a shack if it was on this street.
It was Colonel Mustard in the library with a rope.
Speaking of that. Love the house they filmed that movie in. Or at least the stage they did.
Not with that grand piano in there! I could just see someone divebombing off the 2nd level onto that thing... despair...
I spent a lot of time in that church as a little kid. They did a stellar job remodelling it, and turning it into a home... but it must be hard to sell at that price point.

We lived in Nunica, but moved to California when I was 10. Haven't been back to Michigan since, except for a trip to, of all places, Flint.
Are those the original stained glass windows? They aren’t the design I expected to see on church windows. gorgeous save of an old building rather than a tear down.
To be fair, it was a LONG time ago (mid 1970s). But the one on the S 6th St side definitely feels like it is the same.
It's perfect, except for the price. Even in GH, it's not a $2.5M house.
Maybe that’s why it’s been on the market for over 600 days.
In 2018, it was reported to be a $3.8M house. [Terry and Rene French own a construction company. ](https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2018/08/grand_haven_church_transformed.html)
I absolutely love it!!
Not as big but have one in the neighborhood as well https://www.compass.com/listing/2621-2nd-street-santa-monica-ca-90405/1402456295719163577/

I assume the price of $14,500 is not correct.
Per month…
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.
I absolutely adore this. Amazing!!
Impeccable taste!
Oh maaaaaahhh gahd 🎶
This is a work of art. Stunning
Love those round doors too.
The graveyard across the street of the people who had funerals in that home is a nice touch.
There's a funeral home located 2 doors down right past the railroad tracks.
*awakening Bette Midler noises*
I imagine there could be long-forgotten burials on the property itself.
And I kind of doubt there was just enough space between the church and graveyard for the road.
You would be surprised. They used to bury people right up against churches. My church is 250 years old and there are graves in a small 6'x6' plot right outside the door.
That's what I'm saying. How is there this big space between the church and graveyard? There have to be graves under that street.
Even that grave yard is popular, It will for sure raise the property value. I read that for years people were dying to get in there.
OMG those stained glass windows are gorgeous.
It's beautiful!
It's funny, there is a 2 garage too.. but then an indoors car. That said I would move in tomorrow and become eccentric
It seems like having a car indoors in one of their pics is a check item these days. This one doesn't even seem like it fits.
It looks like there is a grass strip between the door and the driveway too, which goes to the rear of the house where it looks like it has access to the garage again? It seems very cumbersome to get that car in / out anyway.

I thought about doing this to some cool old churches. Just the rehab costs, heating and cooling were prohibitive.
Yeah, same. I'd love to do this but there's no way. Someone put some serious cash into this place.
I've only ever seen small churches converted into single residence homes. Larger ones are usually multi-unit loft style to better absorb the costs.
There were some here in Norfolk VA abandoned. Beautiful old buildings build out of granite blocks. Really cool stuff. If I was a hundred millionaire I might go about restoring a few but alas I am not. Sad to seem them go.
Fantastic house!!

This is honestly pretty fucking rad.
Oh wow!
I would put speakers in the bell tower and every Halloween I'd get my spooky on
Love how it’s been done but some of the furniture is a bit OTT. I could live here but someone needs to repair the roads by it. Crazy paving or what!
~~McMansion~~. McChurch.
The overall idea is neat, but less is very often more, and it sure would be here.
Yeah, like the light fixtures are just too busy for the dining room because of the stained glass
Top golf heavenly touch
……..so that is a golf simulator Holy friggin Cow 🐄
To each their own. But I would love it if they’d not eradicated most of the character from the original church. Much of it just looks like a new-construction McMansion. But thankfully they left the stained glass in place.
Jesus would love what you've done to the place.
That pool is dope as hell tho
Chandelier in the garage is a nice touch. 🥲
That house is gorgeous.
This is the most beautiful conversion I've ever seen.
Love it.
I like it, but it needs to be on some land and not right on top of all the neighbors.
Stunning.
WOWZER! If two or three other folks want to join me, let's buy this place!
Incredible! I love it!!!
My aunt and uncle lived for years in a former church in London, Ontario. The pulpit was in the kitchen - it was really cool.
Wow! This is just beautiful and so glad that they re-utilized the space and didn't tear down such a wonderful building.
I love it. Mucho bucks can do anything!
Wow! Never met anyone with a chandelier in the garage, lol! Well, maybe Liberace had one, but this is just very wowza! Wonder what price point the other houses in the 'hood average.
I would have SOOOOOO much run decorating that poac for Halloween. LoL. Hell I would make it all satanic year round. Just to fuck with the joneses etc.
My city has a house like this! They painted it black & kept the features. It truly stands out on the block.
Too bad they didn't keep or didn't have a pipe organ. I would make it "that house" for Halloween.
Mmmmm….blasphemous.
What in the Sims is happening here?
My ~~cult~~ family would thrive here
They cooked
Sorry, not sorry it’s stunning. A work of art.
The amount of premarital sex, ragers, party drugs that would go down in this crib
church houses always remind me of Alice Brock.
You can get anything you want...
Amazing!
If you won’t sold on this property already. Go to the google street view. Go east down Washington street and check out the neighbors yard across the street.
For a minute I thought this was where Jake and Elwood Blues saw the light!
Stunning. Blessed and wealthy!
Maybe the most beautiful house I’ve ever seen, thank you for this!
This sub has been making me consider Michigan all of a sudden.
I've always wanted to live in a converted church, and this one is beautiful.
Damn its been on the market for awhile. But its gorgeous
It’s truly awesome but there’s no way they’re getting close to asking in that location
Amazing
Very well done. Great use of space. Well-appointed. Just don't care for the dining room chairs. They seem too plain, stiff, and not comfortable.
Minus the horrible half wall in the master, that is stunning.
Would need to sage the shit outta that place first though…
Stunning and tasteful But sexy times in a church, oh my
I’d have to petition the town to allow me to change the address to 666 Washington Ave.
Stunning!
The wood ceiling and bell tower. Wow
God damn!
Is the pool filled with holy water? For mass baptisms?
Whose house? My house now!
I want I want I want.
608 days on Zillow. Methinks they’re asking a bit too much.
Is it ok to be uncomfy and kinda in love with the house at the same time?
When chaotic meets charming.
My God lol
They don't have to take out their garbage for an extra special long time.
“That alter looks like a bed.” “That bed looks like an alter…”
Wow, it's gorge.... why is there are car indoors?
The Church Lady approves.
that vince mcmahon meme in the chair was me page by page, the golf sim is pretty next level
I love the hell out of this house!
Truly lovely architecture.
Absolutely divine!
Would live there in a HEARTBEAT

If they had any sort of yard that would be great; I couldn’t pay that much money to live right next to other people though
Is that a pool under the steeple!? Wow…
Sweet
Love this place.
Too bad the surrounding area isn’t as expensive. Edit: That sounded mean. I meant if they sell, it will probably be hard to get what they put into it. It is a gorgeous home, though. 🙂
It’s giving the set of *Charmed*.
Wow. This is incredible
why does every piece of furniture look like a png straight from google
Too funny. My house is a couple blocks from there
Holy redemption, finally something useful from religion
I've always wanted to do this with an old church. I'd replace the stained glass for Pagan and scientific art. Then I'd adopt kids so they'd live in the coolest house ever.
Ok, that’s gorgeous.
Oh shit, I thought that looked familiar! I'm just up in Norton Shores.
Meh. I think it could have been so much more beautiful inside. I don't understand all the white or the odd furniture but to each their own. I love the house itself. Just not the way its been remodeled.
I'm stuck on too many seating areas, 2 grand pianos, the red chandelier in the dining room and the 3 oversized clocks.
Stunning. Absolutely gorgeous.
The condition of the street makes me sad.
It’s like minutes from Lakes Michigan though. It’s in a really safe area. Most Washington Street places are pretty nice, this one is just on the edge. There’s a downtown shopping area a little further up and then the lakeshore.
Looks pretty darn nice but not enough Satan.
Wow. What a terrific renovation.
And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of room downstairs where the pews used to been. Havin' all that room seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't have to take out their garbage for a long time.
Holy crap Hate the dining room chandeliers but otherwise I couldn't love this more
I'd live there.
Wow they were really determined to make finicky chandeliers work in that space, weren't they?
All I have to say is 🪡⬅️🐪
It's beautiful. They did a great conversion.
I mean. It’s kind of cool.
Idc how much you do to these old churches, I still believe it’s sacrilegious.
House is so ugly
OMG I am in love!!! This is incredible, what a fantastic house!
This is beautiful! I love seeing churches turned into more useful things, and I appreciate that they kept a lot of the original design.
Okay this one has stuck with me. I’m so impressed by how well the space was remodeled. Everything here is just stunning.
It's meh IMO. Churches always have the wrong proportions for conversions and they always end up having awkward spaces IMO.

It's definitely very curly.
