They were popular on social media a while ago for small bedrooms and that exactly what the underneath was used for. The one I saw was a custom-built reinforced piece not a queen bed slapped on top of some cube shelves from Target thoughš¬
I had an IKEA loft bed as a kid. I felt out of it in my sleep and got the wind knocked out of me lol. Still worth it. Played on it like a jungle gym lol
This is actually a hack from the Ikea Hacks site. There is a wood platform attached to the shelves. I considered doing this for my kids, but they were fools in elementary school and would have jumped off of it constantly.
Fortunately looks like kids rooms. My first thought was I hope no one ever has sex on those beds because that could end in disaster and probably a trip to the hospital.
Reminds me of a time we were having sex in the hotel. Knocked the headboard off the bed frame. Fixed it then somehow the picture fell off the wall, cracked her in the forehead. There we are in the ER needing stitches and having to explain it was a sex injury.
We bought a loft bed for my son when he graduated from his toddler bed. It's the kind that's \~4' raised which leaves a cozy space underneath. My younger child now sleeps under there. We just put a toddler mattress on the floor and hung colored xmas lights on the top and it's her secret hidey space. It's fantastic. Truthfully, sometimes the little one sleeps in the closet. As long as they're safe I don't mind.
I would have LOVED a hidey hole like that in my room as a child. I was obsessed with little spaces I could get into and feel hidden and enclosed and safe.
My parents let me put my bed on two dressers like that when I was 10. Had my own little reading cubby and everything. It was the best!!!
These are probably kids rooms. Adult me would be terrified that those shelves would collapse in the middle of the night.
Oh my gosh I think this is a great idea tho! Itās a reading nook and fort space underneath for a kids room! And maybe the cube shelves they used here arenāt super sturdy looking, I canāt tell.. I would use ones made more of Real Wood (tm) and use boards that go across the whole top of the shelves under the mattress to stabilize it and reinforce it.
In middle school my mom got me a loft bed and having the spot underneath was soooooo coooooool!!
So in college i made my crappy dorm beds as high as I could, but that was so I could store all my crap under there.
I built a bed like this for myself in grad school. It worked for several years and was only dismantled when I moved out. I also used ikea stuff, but it was wardrobe cabinets vs. that particular shelving.
I'm not a slender person and it was a queen mattress. It honestly worked really well.
Eh. Plan to do something similar for the kids when we move into our new house. They like forts. Yolo on this, and they'll trust us when we say not to Yolo on the truly dangerous stuff?
I'm 5'7" and when I did this kind of bed myself, I just hopped a bit and got on like I'd learned in gymnastics class to get up on the beam (lessons learned 15+ years before their application, but finally useful!).
This is some grade A DIWhy Not?
Kids love a lofted bed with a cubby underneath. I had a ācaptainās bedā with drawers and a tunnel into the headboard for storage from the time I was 10 until I left for college. My kids have platform beds with storage underneath nowā¦and honestly, after seeing this, Iām considering using LACK/KALLAX shelving underneath insteadā¦thatās pretty awesome if you support it correctlyā¦using a pair of IKEA desk kits and legs underneath, I bet you could make a pretty awesome bed fortā¦
Iām both delighted and scared of whatever is going on in this picture. I want to make a cozy cave out of the space under the bed, but I feel like it would also crush me.
I am an adult and I have a ācaptains bedā. My house is SUPER old so the rooms are really old (no storage) and I needed more clothing storage. I have a 3 step, step stool to get in it andā¦I absolutely love it.
Those are kallax shelves from ikea. My son has knocked a hole in several of them just jumping off of them (the 1 x 4 version is 16 inches off the ground on top). They arenāt sturdy enough to be a bench. The mattress and shelves could collapse in on the kid underneath them.
That doesn't answer the question of why there are curtains on either side of the beds that stick out like a foot. Why are they there? What does that have to do with this being a child's bedroom?
I mean, those look like kids bedrooms. Not saying they are safe, but as i kid i would kill for such a reading cave
They were popular on social media a while ago for small bedrooms and that exactly what the underneath was used for. The one I saw was a custom-built reinforced piece not a queen bed slapped on top of some cube shelves from Target thoughš¬
Imagine rolling over in the night and the whole thing collapses ššš
Imagine reading underneath while your younger sibling is jumping on the bed.
"That was such a bad idea! Why would you let us build bunk beds!"
No power tools!
So much room for activities!
There's blood everywhere!
Apparently I move like a wildebeest in my sleep and our bed shifts every night (presumably before my fiancƩ comes in to it). I would be having the nightmare falling dreams IRL every damn night.
Think of the activities we could do! So many activities! https://youtu.be/ZS90l4L2t6k?si=DeAM91Y67Ze0rLDN
Those are IKEA shelves. I have a bunch of them and they are in no way sturdy enough for this.
Same.
Me three! As long as it's stable and strong enough, it would be perfect for a kid. (:
Me too. I used to read under the dining room table, it was so nice.

Are those mattresses just stacked on bookcases like sawhorses? Seems like a bad idea.
Iāve got all my fingers crossed theyāre at least screwed together
Fortunately looks like kids rooms. My first thought was I hope no one ever has sex on those beds because that could end in disaster and probably a trip to the hospital.
But after the hospital, great story! š
I came here to say that! š¤£
Reminds me of a time we were having sex in the hotel. Knocked the headboard off the bed frame. Fixed it then somehow the picture fell off the wall, cracked her in the forehead. There we are in the ER needing stitches and having to explain it was a sex injury.
š
They would need center support by at least having boards go across from shelf to shelf.
They look like Kallax shelves which have a weight limit of 55lbs on the top. Which makes it an even worse idea.
Oh... That wasn't designed to go together like that? š±
Looks a lot like the platform beds my husband created when our kids went to the dorms in college. Study/play area underneath.
This is kid heaven

If they're not anchored correctly, you may literally be right š¬
Concept, yes. Execution, unsafe.
I remember doing this in college, except we used cinder blocks and put our desks underneath
I feel like those IKEA shelves were not meant to be bed frames.
Not with that attitude
Not with that altitude.....
Thereās a hardware kit for that!
cardboard flat pack with approximately zero bracing against shear forces. this is cursed.
I would have LOVED a hidey hole like that in my room as a child. I was obsessed with little spaces I could get into and feel hidden and enclosed and safe.
Same! And preferably with something to read. (:
pro tip - you get to put the beds at the height you want.
Spoken like a true professional
you'd be amazed at what some people will cross off a house over.
Well, theyāre all giants and kids have really outgrown the place
I'd be more disgusted by a house that was sold including the existing bedding
makeshift loft beds I'm hoping the maker chose to check their safety first, but they're pretty cool and useful for smaller spaces
My parents let me put my bed on two dressers like that when I was 10. Had my own little reading cubby and everything. It was the best!!! These are probably kids rooms. Adult me would be terrified that those shelves would collapse in the middle of the night.
Feels like a college dorm all over again š
I used to have to take a running jump to get into my bed in college. Iām petite but I needed the storage space lmao
Oh my gosh I think this is a great idea tho! Itās a reading nook and fort space underneath for a kids room! And maybe the cube shelves they used here arenāt super sturdy looking, I canāt tell.. Honestly, I LOVE loft beds; I'm an adult and my bedframe is on 12 inch risers!
Mine's on 7 inch risers. Between those and the boxspring and then the mattress, I have to use a stool to get on the bed.
When you don't want the dogs on the bed but you own great danes
my dream as a child a raised bed and permanent fort? the dopest
Sheet door incoming

Dorm room style
I did this using oak, it creates ample storage. Weird for staging a house tho
Why do you assumed itās staged rather someoneās actual furnishings?
Native Floridians never trust realtors
The top of my mattress is at eye level (Iām 5ā 11ā) in a small room. I did it to maximize space. No falls yet.
I once built a bed like that with steps that had storage. It was actually really cool. And GF approved.
Eh. Plan to do something similar for the kids when we move into our new house. They like forts. Yolo on this, and they'll trust us when we say not to Yolo on the truly dangerous stuff?
[I actually saw someone build something similar once.](https://youtu.be/ZS90l4L2t6k?si=GEyBn5C_KWmrCyyl)
So much room for activities!
*Hey I never asked you, do you like guacamole?!*
By far the most underrated line of the whole movie! Haha!
Feel like bunch of negative nacys up in here beds look great and I need one
How tall are these people?
I'm 5'7" and when I did this kind of bed myself, I just hopped a bit and got on like I'd learned in gymnastics class to get up on the beam (lessons learned 15+ years before their application, but finally useful!).

Itās a kid thing. All the cool kids know ;)
Lots of extra storage space under the bed!

I live in earthquake country. This terrifies me.
Kids rooms and not much different than buying a loft bed.
But have you also heard of r/tvtoolow and r/tvtoobig. That bed is certainly too high!
Iām both delighted and scared of whatever is going on in this picture. I want to make a cozy cave out of the space under the bed, but I feel like it would also crush me.

This looks college-esque
It gives monsters more space to hide under your bed
Wait till OP learns about bunk bedsā¦
Link?
That looks like a death trap
Monster Tuck Bed
Itās because they have the Harry Potter bedroom underneath that bed
Guarantee that In front of this house are two cars this high on blocks.
In college they would sell you these pvc pipe extender things so you could raise your bed and put a lot of stuff under it. Maybe they got inspired.
This looks pretty cool/cozy but it would be a pain to get in bed. They should add steps or something so you can get up easier.
I put my bed on top up two kallax some years ago and it was quite nice (was and am still an adult).
Need a trampoline to get into it. Like the 3 Ninjas
He likes to feel he is levitating
Look at all the room for activities under the bed tho
Am I just scrolling right past the link and not seeing it?
Loft beds are great!
Those are kids beds
Whatās wrong with a grown man with a bunk bed?
If I was a child... I would've loved that.
I'd love that now as an adult but I'm also 4'11.
I had a really high bed growing upā¦. I LOVED It.
You do know the furniture doesnāt come with the house
Oh boy. As a kid. I slept like the Tasmanian devil. I fell off my bed a lot. This would not have been good haha
Those shelves are pretty sturdy.
ah yes, allow me to crawl into the bed hole
That one had hot air balloons to even it all outā¦
Must have a dog
I had that in college and it was great
Fun as a kid. Would suck as an adult.
Secret bed fort for the cat or dog.
Where is the ladder though? They catapulting themselves into bed every night?
Sex would be literally "bouncing off the ceiling".
Getting ready for dorm life early š¤£
Kids' rooms. We did ours with a bunk bed. Kid slept on the top for a couple of years. The Fort/Office/Classroom/Amazing Wild Jungle was underneath.
Also the curtains next to the bedā¦ what?? Why not just get a black out curtain this is so peculiar
Itās pretty obviously for young children. I also wouldnāt put beds on an ikea shelf but if theyāre like 60 pounds who cares.
That doesn't answer the question of why there are curtains on either side of the beds that stick out like a foot. Why are they there? What does that have to do with this being a child's bedroom?
is it a hangover dungeon?
