Just saw her in Resident Alien. She can act. Totally different character - still quirky, but I had to look her up because I couldn't quite place why she looked familiar.
If you think this looks cool google Joel Olsteins house also in houston
[the church is big business in Texas](https://www.velvetropes.com/backstage/joel-osteen-house)
Did the ground work for the curious
Oooh, that article! Inspiring is not the word that comes to my mind. Excessive and a gross display of thievery of his congregation is closer to what pops into my head.
It's so bizarre because, even though I am not a Christian, when I think on Jesus and his message, it's the very opposite of this ostentatiousness displayed by the prosperity gospel apostles. I firmly believe when Jesus spoke about modesty, he wasn't referring to covering up your body but rather not making great displays of wealth.
He would literally puke on Osteen and his followers
They call it “prosperity theology” or “prosperity gospel” and (since I have nothing to do with it, here’s Google AI’s blurb on what it is:
Prosperity gospel teaches that Christians are entitled to well-being, which is interpreted as physical health and economic prosperity. It also views wealth as a blessing from God that can be obtained through positive confession, visualization, and donations. The theology often relies on non-traditional interpretations of Bible verses, particularly the Book of Malachi.
I’m of the opinion that there creepy preachers wanted to live the good life and had to come up with a way to sell the idea to the people who pay for it.
I find it disgusting.
It also gives the ability to look as the poor as lesser people then they are since if they were good people they wouldn’t be poor. Ugh.
Here’s the link https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/19525-Doerre-Rd-Spring-TX-77379/161415524_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare
I think it is actually several houses
Edit I went back and it looks like 6 total houses and 3 other structures with include 1 garage. cant tell what the others are
It’s ugly as sin but if I won the lotto, I would love a family compound with a shared party house and then individual homes so we didn’t actually have to live together.
McMansion describes a generic, mass produced, cheaply constructed, large home. It is a take off on McDonalds fast food.
Typically the size of the home is the most valued attribute by the owner. They often have smaller yards and limited poor quality landscaping.
Exactly. They're oversized tract homes with some decorative popouts, window frames, etc. on the front of the house while the rest is a big generic box.
On Reddit though, if people don't like a big house then they call it a McMansion.
Cheap, quickly built mansion. It’s the McDonald’s of mansions. They are everywhere around houston due to (previously) cheap land cost and the lucrative oil industry.
Term for bland, generic, oversized house that seem to say "look at me and my money!" Not much room for personality or unique ideas when the only goal is bigger = better.
These types of homes popped up heavily in the US in the early 2000s prior to the 2008 housing crash which stopped them for a while. Though they seem to have a hard time going away for good.
Long term trends in real estate in the US tend towards:
1. Single family homes
2. Houses getting larger
3. Lots staying the same size
4. More bedrooms and bathrooms
5. More storage space in terms of garages and closets.
6. Minor customizations to eliminate the look of a neighborhood all being the same house.
So you end up with larger homes that look 90% alike in a neighborhood. The way development is typically done, you might have 4-6 different floorplans that have the same overall look.
It's a comparison to McDonald's hamburgers that, while they may not be good, they're consistent. If you get a Big Mac in California and New York, it should taste the same. The houses look like they're created from the same mold, and are overall bland and don't have much innate character.
Property taxes are very broken in this country in general. I live in a college town where the university and teaching hospital provide a huge fraction of the jobs but both pay no property taxes. Everytime a big estate is donated to the university, every time they buy a huge office park for more doctors offices, every time they buy up retail space, the city and county lose property tax revenue. We have some of the highest property taxes in the state because our biggest industries pay nothing to contribute.
>property taxes are for County and City
Yup and it seems the burden is always shifted on the property owners/tax payers. In my area our local gov has been patting themselves on the back for bringing 3 large amazon facilities and smith and wesson but they're all on some sort of program where they wont pay taxes, merely personal property taxes which are a drop in the bucket overall.
Meanwhile homes/land has skyrocketed in the area in just 4 years. I'm aware the latter is happening all over but our area simply does not have jobs paying high enough to sustain locals/workers owning or hell even renting a place to shelter themselves. Its bullshit.
Looks like a nepotism thing… but congrats to “Dr. I” on finally getting her bachelors degree in business in 2019.
Still, odd that she uses the title of Doctor… “which was earned through tireless hours counseling youths around the world”, despite never having attended an accredited doctoral program, or any doctoral program, or any formal counseling training.
Nice that in today’s society the Christian mega church senior global pastor grift isn’t exclusively for creepy old white men.
This shit is just hilarious. Also this: "She is one of 92 beautiful, bold and devastating divas who are REDefinin9 Hi2tory."
I swear we're living in a simulation.
As a PhD, the only place a non medical doctor uses “Dr.” is in an academic/conference setting and even then 99% of us will insist you call us by our first name because it’s just weird. If anyone insists you call them doctor, run away from that person. They are almost guaranteed to be a wiener.
Owned by a church, that isn't taxed? If anything non-sexual were to scream -- OBSCENE!! this is it. How fucking *obscene*.
My church struggles to help people pay a few hundred in rent, feed them, house them, clothe them, and I see this and it's just mind boggling that anyone would support this.
It's obscene.
I wonder how Jesus would feel about this place and all places like it, especially considering that whole throwing the money changers out of the temple bit.
This is the exactly the problem with not taxing churches based on revenue/income/donation/child sacrifice. There are thousands of churches that genuinely do good and that charitable designation is what helps keep them afloat, but why can't there be a graduated tax rate to prevent abuse like this?
Reminds me of the preachers on that preachers and sneakers instagram which calls out preachers who wear designer clothes. Side note when I was more religious than I am now the churches I attended always had a 58 year old pastor named Brad or Doug who was rocking the promisekeeper goatee 15 years too late and a pair of new balance sneakers from the local Ross.
Imagine a company. A corporation if you will. That didn't have to pay taxes or a tually make and produce anything. That allowed all of its owned to take in money. And pay no taxes. Even though they can funnel same money into political campaigns.. They can directly influence govt and politics but they don't even pay taxes into it. can you imagine that ? It's basically a casino that's tax few and doesn't even have to anything. I will say they do at least put on one shitty show a week ........
Its easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Did I get that right? Its been about 50 years since I went to church.
Hmm suspicious lack of crucifixes, and items of praise in the pictures. [Can you believe there are still idiots out there who go to and tithe churches? A fool and his money, I guess…](https://youtu.be/UWt5PJhCmmg?feature=shared)
What a tacky, cheap piece of shit. All that square footage and a tiny kitchen with cheap-ass granite countertops. I jest. I didn’t look at it I have no idea but sounds like the kind of house they would have. I’ll see myself out-
I'd buy it and turn it into a foster group home. Needs some renovation to get the primary bedroom smaller or turn that upstairs part into an office. Plenty of space to teach the kids how to cook and stuff to succeed at adulthood.
The leader of the church. new lite is the name of it. He was a pastor or whatever. Now he calls himself a Bishop. I believe it was the biggest house in Harris county at one time.

Eta: it’s really annoying when the listing is all over the place. 20 bedrooms. 30 bedrooms. Ugh pick a damn lane and stay in it.
This is grotesque on so many levels. It’s not just in poor taste, it’s also putting forth cult vibes. And why is there not a single tree or flower on the grounds? Why?
I want to buy it and turn it into an all-gender pansexual swingers' club. Get in the really hardcore European fetish scenesters, the types from cold climates who have to go to serious extremes to fight off year-round seasonal depression. Make it the world-renowned hotspot for people to explore their filthiest desires just as long as everyone's of age and consenting.
And make sure to thank the church in all of our advertising.

“30 bedrooms” … “Single Family Residence” Ok.
*Dear lord.. Please reach down, from your kingdom of heaven, with your mighty hands, and save the homeless people outside my gated mansion. Amen.*
I mean, this has to be some sister wife shit right? Why would you need a 30 person dining room table and six separate homes that close?
![gif](giphy|pqHRNTAQnbsaEju4Vb) I'm not saying it's a cult, but I'm not saying it's not, either.
The royal purple carpet is a special touch. Only alternative is Prince Akeem of Zamunda finally got a promotion at McDowell’s.
No, you even get a whole other house with it. Saw it on like picture 28 or something like that.
I think it is actually several houses Edit I went back and it looks like 6 total houses and 3 other structures with include 1 garage. cant tell what the others are
So it's perfect for Mormons, got it.
Manson family
It looks like an assisted living facility.

This is a cult compound.
I mean, someone must have been brainwashed to pick that color carpet
Jfc the primary bedroom is 5,000+ sq feet. That’s like 4x the size of my whole place. Whyyyyyyyyy?!?
Where else are you going to hold 100-person orgies with your cult followers?
How's the buffet at these orgies? Asip reference.
Lots of snack trays. Ask rekieta. Lol.
Jim Jones kinds put the bad vibe on the whole cult orgy thing🫠
So do Warren Jeffs and Keith Raniere.🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I am so disappointed the listing didn't show a photo of the room. I can't even wrap my mind around how something like that would look/be furnished.
I think pictures 11, 12, and 13 are all part of the master bedroom. Picture 12 shows it a little bit.
You need a lot of wall space to hide all your cash.
There's always money in the banana stand.
The McMansionest McMansion to end all McMansions Hard pass, even if I won the lottery
Tacky AF, the exact style I'd expect from a Texan religious fruitcake.
The isn't the McDonald's of mansions. Give them some credit. This is at least the Chili's of mansions!
“I feel God in this Chili’s tonight”
Typically I feel God a few hours after visiting a Chili's
Fun fact: There are no Chili's in Oregon.
What does mcmansion mean? I'm not from the US
McMansion describes a generic, mass produced, cheaply constructed, large home. It is a take off on McDonalds fast food. Typically the size of the home is the most valued attribute by the owner. They often have smaller yards and limited poor quality landscaping.
People keep saying this is a Mcmansion, but I've always heard that term to me a cookie-cutter large house, not a literal boring mansion like this.
Exactly. They're oversized tract homes with some decorative popouts, window frames, etc. on the front of the house while the rest is a big generic box. On Reddit though, if people don't like a big house then they call it a McMansion.

Owned by a church = no taxes? We need to reform that

Sounds like my area as well. Are you in the south by chance? My state makes up for it by having one of the highest sales tax.
Yeah, Florida. Sales taxes can fund the state but the property taxes are for County and City
>property taxes are for County and City Yup and it seems the burden is always shifted on the property owners/tax payers. This isn't a mcmansion it's a mccompund.
My dad always said. Can't make it in Business Become a preacher
It's bigger that most actual church buildings.
How much you want to bet not a bit of this space is to provide shelter for a singer homeless person? Or someone else in need?
Who’s paying that amount of money for an ugly outdated McMansion in Houston. 😬
It’s Irishea Hilliard’s house; she’s the pastor at New Light Church. https://newlightccc.org/leadership
Looks like a nepotism thing… but congrats to “Dr. I” on finally getting her bachelors degree in business in 2019. Yeah… all for women’s empowerment, but that’s pretty cringe.
she named one son ivan and the other jonathan sean-michael. wtf is that about.
The use of “Dr.” in the US is an honorific. What really matters is the initials after the name, that’s the legal bit. (PhD, MD, DDS… etc.)
As a PhD, the only place a non medical doctor uses “Dr.” is in an academic/conference setting and even then 99% of us will insist you call us by our first name because it’s just weird. If anyone insists you call them doctor, run away from that person. They are almost guaranteed to be a wiener.
It feels good to laugh
I’m familiar. It’s just uncommon and eye raising to assume it like this.
You'd be surprised how much money you can save when you run a for profit but still somehow tax exempt mega church.
I’m sure the house is provided to the church leader for free and is “used for the ministry”… but not considered taxable income.
It’s probably considered the church parsonage or something.
Probably Joel Olsteen. Rip down the walls and get the loot. (He hid money in his own church walls)
Tax evaders.
Owned by a church, that isn't taxed? If anything non-sexual were to scream -- OBSCENE!! this is it. How fucking *obscene*. Something about camels, needles, and Pharisees. And possibly a whip.
He’d take an axe to it himself.
This is the exactly the problem with not taxing churches based on revenue/income/donation/child sacrifice. There are thousands of churches that genuinely do good and that charitable designation is what helps keep them afloat, but why can't there be a graduated tax rate to prevent abuse like this?
The church should be asked if its real estate holdings include any housing for the homeless, single mothers, orphans, the abused or refugees.
Paid for by your grandparents' pension. Religious greed is disgusting and evil.
Let me correct that for you: Paid for by our taxes, since churches aren’t taxed.
Right, the property taxes on this are floated by fellow Texans. But the purchase is brought to you by Great Auntie Edith.
It's owned by NEW LIGHT CHURCH WORLD OUTREACH & WORSHIP CENTERS. I wonder if she invites her parishioners there.

What does the church worship? Money?
Yes. Prosperity gospel, the kind of thing Joel Osteen does, is a literal heresy.
Yes
Truly imitating Christ.
That carpet is a sin.

Its easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Did I get that right? Its been about 50 years since I went to church.
So I’m guessing everyone in their congregation has their basic needs met
Imagine how many roombas you would need to set off every day just for a few rooms.

Vow of poverty my ass
This is exactly why no church should be tax free.
Tax churches.
I’m so glad that churches continue to remain so humble, truly continuing to follow in Jesus’s steps.
WWJL indeed.
Tax free too.
It’s owned by Bishop I.V. Hilliard.
That explains it.
They’ve gotta spend all that tax free money on something!
Of course it is, Modest.
Seems about right for a man of the lord. Gotta stay in poverty somehow.
Praise Jesus
Single family house?
After seeing this tremendous display of "reasons for taxing churches", I am swearing off using purple ANYTHING for a while. New money +ego+tacky
I'd buy it and turn it into a foster group home. Needs some renovation to get the primary bedroom smaller or turn that upstairs part into an office. Plenty of space to teach the kids how to cook and stuff to succeed at adulthood.
🎶 Do you believe in God? ‘cause that is what I’m selling 🎶
I didn’t even have to read the title—instantly knew that monstrosity was in Texas.
All that tithing money has to go somewhere
And yet the theme from Dallas is playing in my head…
People of "God".
So does that mean they don't pay property taxes? 🤔
The leader of the church. new lite is the name of it. He was a pastor or whatever. Now he calls himself a Bishop. I believe it was the biggest house in Harris county at one time.
Living the way Jesus intended…helping the poor, easing the suffering, sharing equally with others.
Good thing churches don't hafta pay taxes. They can drop that money on hideous shit like this. And Jesus said "screw them poors; ya gotta have a big ole parsonage!"
I do like those vacuum lines in the carpet when I’m don’t vacuuming.
Nice “values”. 🤨
This place is giving very unholy vibes....Nothing good happens in a place with purple carpet?!
Church, really helping people. Especially the homeless. 🙄 I’ll be a hypocrite liar too.
You would be surprised how big some of these mega church pastors houses are.
God would throw up 🤢
When you don’t pay taxes…
A hair salon with 4 hair dryer chairs? Yeah definitely a hotel/wedding venue type of property. Eta: it’s really annoying when the listing is all over the place. 20 bedrooms. 30 bedrooms. Ugh pick a damn lane and stay in it.
That is definitely giving cult house…

Appropriate because a certain JC’s name was the first thing I said upon seeing that creepy staircase
It's not a problem if you have an enormous needle on hand. Can fit whole herds of camels through it at the same time.
This is grotesque on so many levels. It’s not just in poor taste, it’s also putting forth cult vibes. And why is there not a single tree or flower on the grounds? Why?
The vulgarity of that! Lord have mercy.
I'm certain this makes baby Jesus smile to see his followers living such a luxurious life.
Wow, that's a lot of money for tacky.
Tax the churches
This is why people are leaving organized religion. The carpet makes my eyes bleed. Too much money and no taste.
tax all churches

Apparently they don't believe in trees.
Barf.
Tacky
Money can’t buy taste.
How awful
I built this house in the mid 2000's on The Sims.
Non taxable.
Looks modest!
Psh My Roomba will never be able to vacuum that
