They were not joking whatsoever in FNV when they made the only way to remove an idiot from his job he isn't qualified for is to be even dumber than him and take his job
When you're talking to Fantastic with a Low Int build and you say,
> "Me take your job cause me smarter"
and he says
> "Ah, shit, man. You're direct. You're no-nonsense. How am I supposed to compete with that"
That was actually entirely serious. Not a smidgen of humor to be found.
Fantastic has to be one of my favorite characters in new vegas
When they asked me if I had a degree in theoretical physics
I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics
why do you know the number????
Also why do both of these series havve sex scenes in general??? I am so incredibly unconfortable when watching those that i litteraly switch to a diffrente tab until its over
Mass layoffs are a good example. In the short term, they save money and make the investors happy. In the long term, they're getting rid of their trained employees while also scaring off potential new ones.
Also that the entire conflict was US aggression towards China, literally invading their mainland, that ended up in nuclear war. Or did they think nuclear war was just totally by accident in the Fallout universe?
China Invaded the US 7 years before the US invaded China, and had a lot of spies in the US.(this isn’t to say the US was the Good Guys they’re not they are comically evil but China is definitely a Bad Guy)
The conflict is the Cold War going hot, with fighting going on for a Decade including Chinese bio attacks on the US. Who dropped the first bomb is never stated. It’s inferred it was possibly the Enclave/Vault Tec or Chinese Subs/Bombers. We know the first American cities were hit by Chinese bombs. We don’t know if this was initiated by US or Vault Tec nukes on China although unlikely it was the Enclave.
I swear these people never touched a fallout game. You get kidnapped by aliens in fallout 3. You get robbed by a gang of grandmas, and in another occasion your brain gets fucking removed from you body, in fnv. And it's not like it's because of bethesda, fallout 1 has the fucking tardis from doctor who. The fallout series is silly. Embrace the sillyness
sorry to spoil the fun but calling them furies is a bit of a stretch when theres just like a handful of dudes who wear literal dead coyote heads in the legion.
if you want more goofiness: consider the fisting sex robot, the orbital laser super-weapon being used a childrens toy, the ability to make a museum trivia robot the sheriff of a town, and so on.
Ah yes the series of game in which the USA devolved into a fascist dictatorship controller by a secret government of generals, CEOs and politician; set in a world where resource wars for petrolium torn the world and thrown it into a nuclear war might have not the best opinion about the corrent economic state of the world
The Legion is ~~more of a theocracy~~ closer to a theocracy than a plutocracy isnt it? Caesar claims hes the son of Mars and iirc if he dies the Legion says he ascended to godhood.
no, Caesar literally tells you what the legion is - it's a totalitarian nationalist autocracy, he never mentions theocracy even once. It has some religious trappings for sure but it being a theocracy is not in the text at all. It's fascist; Caesar openly acknowledges this fact.
I dont remember where, but ive read that a totalitarian nationalist autocracy is what Caesar wants the Legion to be, but isnt what he thinks it is right now.
Edit: heres something from the game guide:
>Having assembled a loose nation of slavers and slaves, having won countless "wars" against inferior peoples, secretly he still feels like an upstart, an amateur-a barbaric King of the Gauls, instead of a lofty emperor of Rome.
Idk if thats implying what i read but id still say the Legion is closer to a theocracy than ~~an oligarchy~~ a plutocracy
No, what Caesar wants is for the Legion to be an actual *nation*. During FNV, the Legion may be a totalitarian nationalist autocracy, but it really isn't a country. It's more like an army that has occupied a large amount of territory. The people who live there don't consider themselves "Citizens of the Legion", but more so "Under Legion Occupation". They hold no loyalty to the Legion itself, but rather to Caesar, meaning if he dies then the Legion dies with him.
The idea, is that once Caesar conquers New Vegas and later the NCR, he would turn the Legion into an actual nation, with a strong national identity to boot. Now, people would venerate not only Caesar, but the ideals of the Legion and ensure longevity (theoretically at least). Though the entire time it remains a totalitarian nationalist autocracy.
Thats what im saying. How can the Legion be considered nationalist if most of the people who live in it dont consider themselves to be part of the national identity? More to the point, how can it be nationalist if it isnt really a nation yet?
Anywa, what we see in game is closer to theocracy than plutocracy.
A theocracy would have a religion in charge, rather having a dictator who claims legitimacy using a religion. Consider the divine right of kings, and how European monarchies would claim they where installed by god, a claim backed by the church, but how the church was still separate and not actually in charge. Or, what the acceded to godhood thing is based on, which is the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_imperial_cult , which is again a tool of a dictatorship, rather than the dictatorship itself.
Basically if you don't have priests running the government, it isn't a theocracy
Dont know political systems too well myself so Im gonna guess youre probably right but this bit from the game guide still sounds pretty theocratical to me:
>True, Caesar is the perfect man. But he is not just a man: he is the Son of Mars, ordained by the god of war to conquer all Earth. To prepare the way, Mars razed the Earth, cleansed it with fire, and brought the weak and the wicked low; and now his son has come to deliver the wasteland from chaos and barbarism. To follow Caesar is to obey the will of Mars; to disobey is to condemn oneself to death. As the Son of Mars, Caesar has the divine right to demand servitude from all he encounters.
Either way its closer to a theocracy than ~~an oligarchy~~ a plutocracy
Meanwhile Leonard Boyarsky, the man who shaped much of Fallout into what it is now has been dropping anti-capitalism into practically every game he's ever been allowed to write for.
Not only did he not understand Fallout, but also didn't understand Mad Max, who's central concept was that using up dwindling resources in pursuit of line go up will destroy our civilization. Yeah Max is a badass but he's also a shell of a man who's lost everything multiple times and living in a world much more bleak than Fallout.
Granted the original three star an anti-semetic homophobe, so that may be what makes them think it's on their side but George Miller certainly wasn't.
The worst part is that there are too many of these damn people in the game's fan spaces. Put on a lore video about the Enclave to have in the background and I made the mistake of going into the comments; top one was some absolute whiz kid whining about how the writers never did the Enclave right and how they were unfairly made out to be the worst people in the world.
Like, I don't really like the show insofar as what it means for the narrative direction of the franchise (it is very fun and very much in line with what Bethesda's doing with the series), but c'mon man at least try to understand what the game's trying to say... is what I'd say if I wanted to subject myself to that kind of moron
It's hard to enjoy satire these days when people have the media literacy of a banana or purposely ignore the central theme or subtext of it in order to push their own agenda. There are so many people who appreciate art in a pure aesthetic sense and literally have zero critical thinking skills.
I'm a big MGS fan and the amount of people who are oblivious to the anti war message of the entire series is astounding. These are the same people who probably clap like a seal when watching Dr. Manhattan commit war crimes in the Watchmen movie. Chuds, chuds never change.
>top one was some absolute whiz kid whining about how the writers never did the Enclave right and how they were unfairly made out to be the worst people in the world.
They were literally the closest thing Fallout has to *Nazis*. They tried to genocide everyone they considered "subhuman". No shit they're made out to be the worst people in the world.
I love Fallout, but the community unironically has a fascist problem. There are *way* too many people who try to defend or excuse the Enclave in some way. Or they do a bunch of weird LARPing where they go, "Oh yeah, those filthy mutants\* sure are disgusting and should be exterminated". And whenever I try to bring this up I'm swarmed with comments like "Oh I just think the Enclave looks cool, what's wrong with that? Why do you assume that it's all 'fascist' stuff when it's literally just a video game? You people are the *real* fascists for calling everyone you don't like a fascist!"
\*Mutants means minorities
Yeah it's crazy. Like, as a rule, I try not to engage with the 'fandom' anymore, just hang out in my little bubble with friends who I know are not absolutely awful about this kind of thing, but man is it hard. It's like one of my favorite game series ever gives me psychic damage every time I want to retweet some fanart or see a meme or a video or something because there'll be a Legion fanboy talking about degenerates or Enclave fanboys talking about bringing back the good old America—and yes you hit it on the head they throw up their hands like "ugh it's just a game" and then talk about how they want muties dead or whatever. Christ.
Altright reactionaries: cant believe the woke mob would insert politics into fallout!

it's so funny how people talk about the us being the good guys and that old fallout actually shows them in a positive light, like
the fucking intro cinematic of Fo1 shows the US invade and annex Canada, with american soldiers laughing while they execute an unarmed man/civilian (w/e it was, it's been a while)
One thing that I have to respect Fallout TV for is that it didn’t lose the message of the series it’s a part of: that 50’s politics are really, really stupid.
The vault in the begging with the fake outside really actually instantly reminded me of A Boy and His Dog as the vault in that has a fake outside kinda in the same way
I mean if you haven’t played fallout I get the expectations. The premise of the world sounds serious. But than you experience a fallout game or the show or something and it’s got this silly charm to it.
While the show makes references to the games, they are explained short and sweet or simply shown to you. Obviously, my enjoyment of the show was a lot because I knew the story of Fallout but my mom who's never engaged with the series at all was enjoying herself.
Watch the show then play the games. The show has quite a few retcons(fallout games from 1-4 are full of retcons to begin with).
The lack of west coast settlements is my biggest annoyance.

They're probably complaining about the comedy aspect.
fallout is well known for being entirely humorless
They were being dead serious in FO2 when you could become a porn star named Arnold Swollenmember.
They were not joking whatsoever in FNV when they made the only way to remove an idiot from his job he isn't qualified for is to be even dumber than him and take his job
When you're talking to Fantastic with a Low Int build and you say, > "Me take your job cause me smarter" and he says > "Ah, shit, man. You're direct. You're no-nonsense. How am I supposed to compete with that" That was actually entirely serious. Not a smidgen of humor to be found.
Fantastic has to be one of my favorite characters in new vegas When they asked me if I had a degree in theoretical physics I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics
You can also just kill him in front of everyone and no one reacts and you lose no reputation because everyone hates him so much
Cass was being serious when she mentioned Long Dick Johnson, a man with a lengthy penis, hence the name.
That guy in HELIOS One really did have a theoretical degree in physics
**Did you put a PLUG in his COCKTUBE to make him EXPLODE?**
i am gonna pretend i don't understand that. What the fuck are you even saying?
the vault dweller character shows strong autistic character traits and talks to people almost exacly like sheldon cooper. Exept she FUCKS
Just like a Fallout protagonist.
To be fair Sheldon also canonically fucks
12 whole times
why do you know the number???? Also why do both of these series havve sex scenes in general??? I am so incredibly unconfortable when watching those that i litteraly switch to a diffrente tab until its over
I honestly guessed the number and sex scenes because the producers heard "sex sells" and completely missed the point of the phrase
It is really good (the fallout show, not bbt)
You don't need to be a socialist to understand that fallout corpos are bad,but it's a libertarian so that answers if they're stupid or not.
Dropping a nuclear bomb made the stock prizes go up, clearly it was the right decision.
classic American corpo tbh. take a shortcut that is good for investors in the short term but very bad for everyone else in the long term
Mass layoffs are a good example. In the short term, they save money and make the investors happy. In the long term, they're getting rid of their trained employees while also scaring off potential new ones.
"Sure the world was destroyed, but for a beautiful moment we created a lot of value for our shareholders."
That's gotta be worth something!
Also that the entire conflict was US aggression towards China, literally invading their mainland, that ended up in nuclear war. Or did they think nuclear war was just totally by accident in the Fallout universe?
China Invaded the US 7 years before the US invaded China, and had a lot of spies in the US.(this isn’t to say the US was the Good Guys they’re not they are comically evil but China is definitely a Bad Guy) The conflict is the Cold War going hot, with fighting going on for a Decade including Chinese bio attacks on the US. China literally invaded Alaska first

It's a wild wasteland after all
Pun absolutely intended
Fallout 1 has a major villain sing something called "the yummy tummy song" if you pick certain dialogue options.
Never played the first fallout, might have to now
It's pretty fun, if a bit dated at times. Definitely recommend
fallout 2 was also a full-on clown show (affectionate)
I didn't include it because I don't know any of its tomfooleries but I have no doubt it's just as silly as the rest of the games
It's more silly
#**WHERE IS YOUR POWER ARMOUR**
There’s a whole gang thats just Elvis impersonators
Don't forget about the group of furries that took over a part of the united states by pretending they are the roman empire
sorry to spoil the fun but calling them furies is a bit of a stretch when theres just like a handful of dudes who wear literal dead coyote heads in the legion. if you want more goofiness: consider the fisting sex robot, the orbital laser super-weapon being used a childrens toy, the ability to make a museum trivia robot the sheriff of a town, and so on.
This is true… they’re more like weeaboos but for Ancient Rome
> weeaboos but for Ancient Rome given how common this is it really should have a term
Romaboo Like wehraboo, tojoboo or rhodiboo
You can have a full conversation with your brain too where you have to convince it to go back in your skull
Ah yes the series of game in which the USA devolved into a fascist dictatorship controller by a secret government of generals, CEOs and politician; set in a world where resource wars for petrolium torn the world and thrown it into a nuclear war might have not the best opinion about the corrent economic state of the world
And where the state that tries to imitate modern America ended up becoming a corrupt plutocracy
Would you like the corrupt plutocracy that you can vote in, the corrupt plutocracy that is just fascism, or the corrupt plutocracy that is Singapore.
Ironically Fallout NV features 2 of 3 of them
It contains all three
The legion doesn't really have the charateristics of a plutocracy tho
The Legion is ~~more of a theocracy~~ closer to a theocracy than a plutocracy isnt it? Caesar claims hes the son of Mars and iirc if he dies the Legion says he ascended to godhood.

And media in the top section did serve as heavy influences on the fallout series
I love how he couldn't find a way to visually spell out how he dislikes Fallout's opinion on capitalism and just had to smash the text in there.
Nick Mullen is in Fallout?
Well actually the show was written by him and was supposed to be called “making cum fallout of my ass” but the studio made him change the name
do i need to have played the games to watch the show

Well in that case I'm not going to watch it, can't stand the big bang theory..
the real media illiteracy was in the comments all along
Probably, I dunno I was just making a joke about tbbt!
This image is not an accurate summation of Fallout
Thank god, I might have a look at it tonight then
Say sike right now
I've got too much of the tism to enjoy tbbt I'm sorry..
fallout series is actually good though
I'll take your word for it, not got a lot else to do tonight so maybe I'll give it a go!
