IFS was in 86. 22re was in 85. Which is why the 85 22re solid axle is so sought after. It looks like a decent rig and a starting point of 8k in CA isnt terrible. Just verify the specs before you proceed.
I second this.. only years of 4Runners with solid axles are 84 and 85 (and they ONLY came with solid axles). So this “1984” is either A. swapped to IFS (nobody does IFS swaps) or B. a stolen car with a swapped body/frame. Either way IFS didn’t come until 1986+ and 22RE didn’t come out until 1985. Nothing adds up or makes sense, a family member of mine bought a sketchy car like this and ended having to be taken from insurance since it was a stolen vehicle. Old school yotes are notorious for getting stolen and resold. Not doubting it’s a sweet car, but be careful out there
Ask them to keep it cold before you check it out. Watch that tail pipe on a cold start up. Watch out with the paint it looks good but could be rust or bondo under, look at those rain gutters. Check Vin& title. Not knowing the year of your customized runner makes me wonder.
If it’s IFS, it’s at least an 86. 85 could be had with an 22re or a 22r. 84 was 22r only. With a new motor, it looks like a solid option for a Californian. Just he sure he can prove it
First year was '84. IFS means it is an 86 at the earliest.
My thoughts exactly
Any chance you could do a VIN lookup or see the actual manufacturers data plate? That might answer a lot of questions.

How hard is it to go from a solid axle to ifs?
Better question is why would you? Seems he replaced the engine so I could possibly see how it got swapped for a 22re but I can’t see a SA to IFS..
Sorry, was meant to be rhetorical
Looks like an 86. Also looks like a scam
Miles? Interior conditions?
Claims 10k on motor and 200k on body. Interior looks pretty clean
Stay away from this

Makes sense. My ‘85 was solid axle with a 22r
I got a 1990 if you wanna buy
He updated it to 87. It all makes sense now. He’s not far from me.
Stay away
