Another year of almosts for the crows

Korasuka

King of the cold comforts.

GGezpzMuppy

It’s the Carey curse, I’m telling ya.

Korasuka

We've been racking up curses like uno.

JCK98

Getting Carey instead of going after Pavlich was the curse, then having to rely on Perrie and McGregor for the next few years added to the curse.

yogyadreams

Ah Carey Elwes? The bad guy from twister roite

TypeJack

The stages of crom

Markharris1989

*Crom

RidsBabs

*Kuwarna of judgement

RaidanRam

That would require even more editing and I can’t be bothered to do that

Propaslader

Kuwarna replaces Adelaide, not Crows

RidsBabs

Actually it’s the translation for Crows. So Adelaide are called Kuwarna Crows, or Crow Crows. I’m just going off what the AFL article about the name change said, and am not an expert on Indigenous languages.

TimChewBarker

It's just Kuwarna. Not Adelaide Kuwarna. Not Kuwarna Crows. Just Kuwarna, which means Crows

HomerJBagger

Crow Crow Again. First you crow, and then you, you crow again.

Gonzalez_Nadal

Adelaide is Kuarna

simon2105

At least it's a loss for Kuwarna and not the Crows

Fluctuating_Skills

I hate this sport

Admirable_Message497

Nah Collingwood won’t win the next close game don’t worry - me in 2022

billyisgoat07

![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)

Not_Stupid

At this point it's less getting away with it, and more the default gameplan.

Jarrod345

Something something RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME

ExcellentTurnips

Triggered

Korasuka

"say the line, Bart!" "right infront of me :( " "yayyyyy!!!"

sachiwtf

Back to our regular scheduling of Getting Away With It^TM for Collingwood it appears

yogyadreams

You're the only one to stop them winning in the last seven weeks. You're our only hope.

maybemyfirstrodeo

If you took a shot every time Daicos missed a target you'd have been fucked by half time. If you took a shot every time you heard "Adelai... sorry Kuwarna" you'd have been dead.

thekanaokid

Oop, take another one shot.

jordypouls05

any day with carlton out of the 8 is a good day

CorruptDropbear

RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME IT KEEPS FUCKING HAPPENING

sestero

I see players run that far without bouncing like 20 times a game

limeIamb

He ran about 2 full strips of mown grass, which if it is like the past, that's about 20 meters. I think the call is correct, but the annoying part is that's that one time they will call it this month

fickle-doughnut123

Yeah the afl will say the umpire made the correct decision and in the next few weeks umpires will moderate carefully.

TheVoluptuousChode

If players are going to burn an entire pack, take a bounce full tilt and still get penalised for it, I don't wanna watch. We love the game for the elements of skill, speed and power and they've done their best to eliminate the power aspect lately. Now here, they're penalising the other traits. The league is killing their own product. Absolutely soul sucking officiating.

limeIamb

I agree with the sentiment, but if you just play on vibes then you're going to piss off the other side. For example, the umpires were too scared to pay a free kick against Draper diving on the ball. They get panned for it. Now they correctly pay a free kick against Rankine and get panned for it. They can't win, and someone will always be upset. If Collingwood were on the receiving end of this bad call, I honestly don't think anyone would give a fuck

pierre_86

They'll get panned for it because in both of those examples they've effectively gone "against" the expected outcome. You'd expect Draper to have been pinged like at every other point in the game, like you'd have expected a no call on Rankine. Most viewers only want some form of consistency as opposed to technical perfection

Effective-Tour-656

He ran 24 meters without a bounce... that's 9 meters more than allowed.

notchoosingone

MCG strips are 12.5m apart, so maybe not quite 25.

moderndaydevil

Never see it paid and I can't believe it was.  But if he had kicked it as far as he ran, would it have been paid a mark.  There are two different 15 meters in the game which is wierd.

Whiskey-Stones12

Nankervis ran twice as far 10 minutes earlier without getting called.

IHaveNeverEatenACat

But are they crom?

PetrifyGWENT

On replay it looked around 14 steps, only thing I can think of is the umpires missed him bounce before that

dons_03

14 steps would be more than 15m though wouldn’t it?

acllive

yeah but does it ever get called? no i saw one in the middle of the ground before this go uncalled

dons_03

I agree it’s not called as much as it should - but I think it was a correct call (as much as it pains me to say it, given I was barracking against the Pies)

Sporter73

Just look at the player taking the kick in after a behind. They easily run 20 m before kicking it and it’s never called.

Dense_Hornet2790

Correct if they consistently called it like that, is quite different to technically correct when plucking just one decision out right at the end of the match.

Dense_Hornet2790

Possibly but a lot of them were quite short steps while arcing around to make the kick. Even if it was just over 15m it’s basically never called until it looks like a solid 20m.

winoforever_slurp_

When you’re sprinting a step is easily more than a metre

froggy2903

I counted 16 but it’s not worth paying. Let the game play out unless it’s an obvious free

Effective-Tour-656

9 meters over the allowed 15 is pretty obvious.

Propaslader

He was doing longer than 1m steps

front-on-contact

It's not steps, it's metres. And he's running big enough steps to do a hammy. So well over 15. At least 20 going by those grass strips

popcockery

I counted 16-17 steps so probably 20-25m, but gee those ones are never called especially when it's for the second bounce

Kelpieee55

It's pretty rare that gets called. Players are usually on top of it anyway and I also think umps usually give them a bit of leeway unless it's really blatant, which I don't think that was.

mal68

Horrible decision. No need for the umpire to be the one to determine the outcome of the game.

Pleasant_Inspection9

![gif](giphy|3ohhwFtRRjYgeIGali|downsized)

PetrifyGWENT

Adelaide getting a controversial decision against them in the last minute AGAIN 😭

TypeJack

They need to up their bribing fee closer to what Collingwood puts out.

free_potatoes

Adelaide and contentious last minute umpire calls, name a more iconic duo

Lintopher

Crows and Conceding junk time goals to give the opposition momentum into a break.

Korasuka

Utter pain. 29274828 incredibly close, competitive losses to Collingwood in a row. When will it end?

longliveLesGrossman

never

moderndaydevil

Of all the fucking free kicks to give it's not that one. What the fuck is that.

CatOutOfTheDrag

It’s actually just getting boring at this point. Get a new script.

Korasuka

Fr. A small part of me wouldn't even mind losing by a regular margin like no more than 4 goals. Always being so close but never good enough is so tiring.

CatOutOfTheDrag

Tell me about it

cynic__96

Condolences to my bird brethren from South Australia who seem destined to be the “almost team” for the meantime

laserframe

I really have to ask though in all these close games what Adelaide has learnt, 3:30 on the clock, 1 point up and Obrien takes the good contested mark on the forward flank about 60m from goal and rather than going back and allowing Adelaide to keep it in he handpasses off to Rachele who takes a pressured kick from near the boundary from 45m and misses. Then going by the commentary Crows have it in F50 and yet didn't have the outnumber behind the ball, as happens in these games the ball ping pongs luckily to a Pies player and they were off through the middle with all the space in the world to work with.

MisguidedGames

Sums up Adelaide and umpiring, lol * Adelaide against Essendon. Too Afraid to play obvious free kick for Adelaide. * Adelaide against Collingwood. Not afraid to pay a 50/50 free kick. mmm

CorruptDropbear

We need to move Adelaide to Victoria somehow

Mrchikkin

There’s this fun place called Ararat you could have

johnnymountain91

Hi Eddie

Peekay-

50/50 is generous was more like a 30/70 (with the 70 being not a free kick) Players run that far (and further) multiple times a game without being called.

PetrifyGWENT

Where does Sydney vs Adelaide controversy last year fit into this

Plenty_Area_408

Giants were. Right. South Melbourne all along.

Nefiros1

Wasn’t even 50/50. Was never there to begin with.

Ok_Acanthaceae6057

Crows did an awesome job playing from behind, took every possible risk did a great job. But when they had the lead they looked tight as if “I don’t want to fuck this up” was ultimately their downfall. Grandstand finish was good to watch.

TitanIsElite

I need a hug :(

Fuzzy-Mammoth-5680

It wouldn’t be an Adelaide game without a critical umpiring decision going against them in the dying moments.

wordtwoyamum

Go back to Lance Franklin when he took twenty steps on the stride. Absolutely no way Rank gained that meterage

Respected-Watcher

That’s gotta be one of the worst calls to decide a game, took 15 steps at most

JasnahLannister

You can take as many steps as you like though, it’s 15 meters. Rankine was running hard enough that he pulled his hamstring, they were long strides.

Wombat_Gaming_Aust

Totally agree, at best very close to 15, but to blow the whistle went 30 seconds to go, brave umpire.

NOwallsNOworries

What a horrible way to finish a ripping contest

uhhWoodsy

Idk about that last free..

post_angst

🚨 B U L L S H I T 🚨

TheVoluptuousChode

Crom and being ass blasted by the umpires in the dying moments. Name a more iconic duo.

sarigami

Disappointing loss for Adelaide. Had all the momentum in the last. Couldn’t kick a goal to save their lives in the last ten minutes. Collingwood only had a few looks in that last 5-10 minutes and made it count

TimothyLuncheon

It’d be sick if teams didn’t forget how to be efficient inside 50 when it matters against Collingwood.

smegdaddy

Crows show so much effort. They’re better than their record.

Kelpieee55

Least controversial ending to a 2024 game

___TheIllusiveMan___

Can we just like never play each other again? This isn’t good for either of our hearts.

bluetiges

thats way to close to call running too far, seen way worse not given

jono4416

Come on writers, 3 seasons of the "Getting away with it" plotline is getting a bit old

droopy_tree

Only tuned in for the last quarter, was that Joey on lead call? Really rate him + J Riewoldt.

TheRealProudyno1

I think there was another 50/50 running too far call a couple of minutes earlier in the quarter, the crowd obviously noticed it but the umps didn't pay it. May explain why the umps decided to call that at the end? It was so close, and in the context of the game is usually never paid.

wasabiface

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK GG Collingwhatever your name is

ExtremeSlothSport

A dodgy umpiring decision robbing Adelaide and giving Collingwood a win? I am shocked. SHOCKED!

warzonexx

Did it rob them though? If you saw the contest still going in the forward 50, it was about 20 seconds of tackles which would have run the clock to 0. But sure, let's just call it robbing them because Schultz didn't get pole axed mid air in a marking contest that the crow had no chance of being in.

moderndaydevil

It was a shocking call but they missed a clear on Schultz getting tackled in the marking contest like 5 seconds before it.

winoforever_slurp_

Also Keane’s throw in our F50 that resulted in their last goal

Icy-Rock8780

Mate don’t even try. Any reasonable consideration of poor calls the other way won’t matter to these people. The narrative is in full swing and there’s nothing we can do about it except just disconnect.

moderndaydevil

People hate Collingwood as much as they love their own team. As one eyed against us as Pies fans are for the Pies.

Icy-Rock8780

Yup

AussieOwned

<- Vicbias button

RadstoneGrove

Thank you for the button, I’ll be sure to press it 50 times today alone.

sam6172

It's ok Adelaide. They'll review it and learn from it. Won't change anything but at least you will get an apology....

retsibsi

The decision wasn't wrong, just inconsistent with how they tend to 'interpret' that rule. So the AFL will tick it off as correct (because it technically was) but continue to do nothing when non-calls are made in the same scenario. And the umpires will continue to let most players run 25m+ but occasionally ping someone for running 20.

limeIamb

🤫

NoOneImportantOCE

Crows losing close games with interesting calls in dying moments is to common

suanxo

Diabolical decision from the umpire. Rankine had taken 12 steps by the time he blew the whistle. Usually, but especially at that point of the game, umpires don’t call running too far unless it’s absolutely certain a player has gone more than 15. Adelaide on the wrong end of a bad call yet again

Brokenmonalisa

The AFL tweeted a throw back a few weeks ago of "an incredible Cripps goal" against us and he ran 35 metres easily.

dreamthiliving

Link?

Brokenmonalisa

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5rpb-KvGtF/?igsh=MWRiZXI1NXh5cW5ucg==

dreamthiliving

lol that’s outrageous, I’d say 35m there and the AFl praised it. Wait for the Umpires made the right call from the AFL tmrw for 10m less 😆

WonderingYowie

Important to note the rule is 15 metres, it doesn't matter how many steps. Was a harsh call, players run like that all the time

retsibsi

His stride length when sprinting would be well over 1.25m, so I don't think there's much doubt it was a technically correct call. The problem is that they are so inconsistent with it and usually give them a lot of leeway, but occasionally pay a tight one. I've been saying for a while they should increase the distance to, say, 25m, and put the players on notice that they're actually going to try to call it accurately. (So if you don't want to risk getting pinged, don't try to cut it fine, and don't complain if the replays show you only covered 23.5m)

mattinthehat1

According to fox footy it was 24.2m that he covered. I agree, in a game where free kicks were 8-11, umpires let most things go all day already, don't change the umpiring for the last minute. I think shultz being hit front on should have been paid. Unfair to let something of that standard go, then pay this.

FlynnyWynny

I think it's a rough call, but why would steps matter when it's the metres that count?

StellaXV

I don’t mind losing games. Losing close games like that though… *depression*

Franklinsleftnut

Rankine seemingly doing his hammy at the end a double blow from Crom.

qsk8r

Looking forward to another delayed concussion call. Gotta feel for Crom, they are a quality side that have had so many games just not quite fall their way. Wonder how many Pies fans lost to heart attacks tonight (to add to the tally)

DatPianoWalrus

I'm sure this thread will be uncontroversial

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhitexGlint

14 seconds left, on the wing and a ball up with 18 Collingwood players sitting on every spare inch of space, yes the call is shit, but it was absolutely unlikely that a goal comes out of that, they robbed a great ending but they didn’t rob them the game.

1UPZ__

Don't bother. The posters pointing it out were all hoping for a Crows win because they hate Collingwood.

Intelligent-Koala286

Great performance by Collingwood with no forward line. Good performance by the crows to nearly steal it. But nah, Collingwood wins a close one so lets hyper-fixate on the one decision that went their way late. Its the R/afl done thing.

HoneysucklePink

What the fuck man? I give up honestly

Peekay-

Can't believe that call at the end I mean either way Collingwood almost certainly win but wtf - calling a borderline call like that right at the end of a close game? Whichever ump that was should be demoted to VFL duty

ScoutDuper

They aren't demoting an umpire for making an objectively correct call in the dying seconds.

GreenArr0w

Nah get fucked. How many times does it have to happen with a shit late call.

TitanIsElite

Why do i bother watching this sport

Timbo_Mimbo

I am thoroughly sports entertained

Albeg2

Adelaide matches are always so stressful. Rate the crows!

LakeOval

Collingwood winning a close one, umpire stitching up the Crows with a dubious judgement call (he ran a slight too far but that will never get paid again in that situation), the Pies tipping the heart of the Crows and the Crows getting pipped at the post. All the classics, a true greatest hits tour today.

winoforever_slurp_

For every comment about the running too far call, how about we have a discussion about Keane’s throw in our forward 50 which wasn’t called and led directly to the last Crows goal? That was potentially a two goal turnaround.

sonsofgondor

I'm so sick of getting fucked by the umpires

RidsBabs

Illusive robbed of match thread. Winning club gets to post it.

___TheIllusiveMan___

I was legit waiting for you to post it because you said you wanted it lol

Kim_jong-fun

You left it wide open and now we have a new one to watch

doshajudgement

I didn't know you lot had a code to follow, I just thought it was a free-for-alll

NavyStarz

Thi appears to be a newcomer. Forgive them for not knowing.

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

We're gonna struggle for a while without Mihocek and Howe !

ImMalteserMan

What is with our inability to get up in osr games? This year and last year we've lost a number of games by less than a kick but won a couple I think?

TheStevenUniverseKid

Change the name and we still get robbed

dollabillgates

Don’t worry crow fans! You helped kick Carlton out of the 8!

-bxp

Been focusing too much on the running too far...Quaynor's smother and handpass out of fifty to setup the last goal was epic. I really thought we were done by then, and that was against the run of play for most of the quarter.

raresaturn

Last three meetings 1pt 2pts 4pts Collingwood margins increasing exponentially

genericTerry

It’s 15 m not 15 steps and he ran about 20 m

Skibidirizzletussy

He ran 24 metres mate. You're allowed to run 15 metres. How many metres should he be able to run before he gets penalised?

Detonator84

RIGHT INFRONT OF ME

Jarrah97

you know it’s bull shit because that would never, ever, ever get paid the other way..

luckst4r

People in here are so good at showing that they didn't actually watch the game.

dlm83

I dunno, it sounds like a lot of people are talking about a robbery that happened right in front of them

Bazalaylee

This game is maybe my breaking point

Bearsicle19

The thing that shits me about that call. If they didn't call it, no one would be saying " I think Rankine ran to far there" such a shit ending to a great game.

AlamutJones

The destruction of our forward line is complete. Next week we conscript the tallest of the Auskickers

LeDestrier

Can someone explain to me what happened with that call at the end there? I was only half paying attention, but I gathered that the Crows got screwed over again.

dlm83

People are complaining because the umpire didn't not make the right call. Sometimes the wrong call or not making the right call is the right kind of wrong and people rightly demand umpires to know when to get it wrong to get it right.

Apathetic420

Can some rich cunt make the BFL where the interstate teams only play each other without fuckwit biased Victorian umpires ruining every game with fucked up decisions again and again

Known_Definition_320

Adelaide need to call for an investigation. I don't think any other team gets shafted as much as they do

Tiny_Sherbet8298

Adelaide got 3 dodgy calls go there way in the final 6 or so minutes and then one call goes our way and it’s rigged lmao

liam_l_82

Holding the ball apparently doesnt exist, take on as many players as you like and then chuck it to your mate.

Sunnflwr

Yeah that’s when you just read and scroll on. It won’t change

hasumpstuffedup

Last call on Rankine a good one. Definitely ran too far after his bounce. Great umpiring to have the guts too pay that in the big moment

Maximumlnsanity

Why have the balls to call that then but at basically every other point in the season let it go. I don’t care if it’s technically correct, the lack of consistency makes it a bad call

Gorogororoth

Well that's not going to go down well

Bergasms

No it wasn't, it'd be guts to pay it consistently like that. That was pathetic.

Apart-Ad-8319

Crom robbed again

Drazsyker

Looking at the replay and counting the steps, Rankine goes about 18 strides after the ball bounces - it appears less because he fumbles the ball. Bold call by the umpire but I think it's the right one, one side is going to be angry however that gets officiated EDIT: Looked at it on replay and posted the video on the sub. I reckon I count 16, maybe 17 steps. Reaaaaal tight

Can we never play crows again? Thanks

Markharris1989

I’m a simple man, I see ‘Right in front of me’ and I upvote

Whiskey-Stones12

I'm glad we had the Rankine free kick right at the end so we can all talk about that instead of the two dodgy decisions in favour of the Crows in the minute beforehand that went their way.

Bergasms

That was a pathetic way to kill the game. Wrong umpiring call. Pathetic bullshit.

Bulkywon

How far can you run without taking a bounce and how far do you think Rankine ran?

Elcapitan2020

Fucking phew

Harreys

What's with Crows and losing close games with controversial umpire calls (or non calls)

Korasuka

Script writers need new ideas for us.

1UPZ__

Those pointing out the last call.... how about rewatching it and counting the lack of calls for the Pies that helped turn momentum. Bad luck Crows. Umpires cock teased you guys.

TheWolfAssassin

😎

TheWestWillRise

Such a funny time to call a free like that

BrandonSG13

Have no idea how this is the first one, I refreshed multiple times after the siren and it didn’t come so I just made the thread

pilsen86

Hear me out. That call was meant to help the Crows fans cope with the loss. They weren’t gonna win to from a ball up at that point, but now at least they get to blame the umpires, which is a lot better than having to accept their team is shit at finishing games.
