How is it that Albertans did not know this would happen before the last election?
Alberta, get your heads out of the sand.
If the UCP continues to win majority elections and Smith is no longer leader, the social conservatives will take over the UCP party.
Alberta Resistance and the ANDP are now our only chance to snub this religion based social conservative movement destined to destroy our human rights.
That could be, but I know many that support her massive overreach into women’s health and LGBTQ topics. Mostly super religious rural folk that have never taken a moment to consider whether any of that is their business, let alone the governments business.
Weird, socon reasons are almost all i see on alberta, 90-10.
The conservatives on here who don't really get into the social conservatism shit still can't really link ucp legislation to good economic outcomes.
Although some do argue in good faith wrt renewables while some do not.
And they don't seem to mind any of the measurably bad outcomes and *actual crises*. Or they won't until they or a loved one gets in an accident or has a cancer diagnosis. Or miscarries and dies.
Hey i guess anything goes when it comes to the bottom line.
Edit a word
Don’t kid yourself. Many who claim it was for economic reasons didn’t hold their noses at the idea of banning abortions or risk children’s lives, or demonising the LGTBQIA+ community.
What they tell you isn’t what they voted for.
If the social aspects didn’t turn them away, they tacitly agree to them.
Facts I live in fort mac and it's a conservative strong hold. Most of the people I work with and are under 50 agree that removing abortion is fucked up, yet they still vote conservative for economic reasons.
That’s how the conservatives get their votes. They will never talk about their social conservative ideology but when they have long term majority governments, they will pass anything they want. Just look south to the Republican states …
I said I did NOT vote for her. I definitely don’t want this and I am very vocal about it. I saw it coming but my vote wasn’t strong enough to stop the shittery that’s happening now. I am a huge advocate for educating voters and trying to mitigate complacency. I won’t fault you for misreading my comment.
I can barely talk to some of my relatives. They voted this mess in and aren’t paying attention to ANYTHING. They just vote conservative no matter what. 😠
The UCP will just do the same that they did with their anti-transgender legislation - gaslight the base.
“This is what the LGBTQ community wanted, we’re protecting these wonderful kids”
They’ll turn a story about bullying into “look at all the good we’re doing by taking control”
Every other thing that we tried to tell UCP supporters she was going to do has happened so there’s no reason to believe this isn’t something that they’re working on
I’m confused why basic human rights and health care are even a topic of discussion with any party anymore. Like shouldn’t it just be across the board we all get basic human rights and healthcare and have those not be involved in politics? There’s literally no place for this shjt in politics
Might as well accept the fact that we’ll soon be living in a quasi-dictatorship.
Their idea of freedom leaves a lot to be desired. The Unbridled Corruption Party strikes again!

LaGrange received a diploma in Rehabilitation Studies from Humber College, and worked with people who had mental and physical disabilities before entering the political arena.[6] In her time in Red Deer, LaGrange has served as the president of the Alberta Catholic School Trustees' Association until her resignation in June 2018,[7] vice-president of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Association, and has also served as a trustee on the Red Deer Catholic School board between 2007 and 2018.[3][7] LaGrange is the former president of Red-Deer Pro-Life, and was on the board of directors for Alberta pro-life.[8] The Campaign Life Coalition, a conservative Christian pro-life and anti-abortion advocacy group, lists LaGrange as a supporter of CLC principles.

Conservatives will pay any amount if it means a hit of amgdala juice for being awful in service to their fantasies of superiority through making others suffer for fun.
No money for better, infinite money to be fking awful.
So just 2 points, The Breakdown has been wrong many times and second the post seems to very inflammatory as the post has no specifics on how and who. Not saying this isnt happening but this is just an accusation without evidence
I didn’t say it was the truth. But it something journalists should do some digging on to see if there is truth. And with the direction politics have been taking, something to be vigilant about.
Unlike the breakdown though we can’t just run and post every single conspiracy theory someone’s DM’d us. We need actual evidence. Not gossip. If someone can offer us even a spic of evidence we dig.
Opt-in sexual education, parental consent for name changes in school, bill 20 & the ability to dismiss councillors and mayors are all questionable paths for the Premier to take. Why not abortions?
There are a number of US states banning abortions already. It would be foolish to turn a blind eye and not see it as a warning to pay attention.
I’m not saying it’s not a pipe dream or intent by the UCP but the Why, because our system is very different from the United States. The Liberal government can and would cut funding to Alberta massively if they try to do this. It will also hurt the Cons in the federal election with Ontario and Quebec. If the UCP try’s this it’s going to backfire on them.
We already have had health care transfer reductions.
They already don’t want parmacare birth control and diabetes meds. And paying for others bad choices came up more than once. Abortion isn’t too far down that line. This is the same group that likes to toss up bills every so often with things like reducing birth control access or to make sure pharmacists can deny us to get it just to see what bills stick. I feel like they’ve tossed up bills to reduce abortion too but those didn’t stick. I pay attention more to the birth control thing because I have a disease that’s improved with it.
Trudeau and the Liberals have promised many times to protect abortion access. It would become a massive federal election issue, one thats coming soon, and would look very good for the Liberals to punish Alberta for restricting access, as well as make the Cons look really bad in Quebec, Ontario and BC. Justin would absolutely take Alberta to task any way he can for doing it. It’s a win win for him.
Limiting access and outright banning abortion are different things.
Already in Canada there are varying levels of access. BC has a slight higher population, but also an older median age and has more than double the resource centres for accessing an abortion.
Ontario has a little over 3 x the population of Alberta and 5x more resource centres to access an abortion.
You are assuming the DM’s are whistleblowers and not just plain bullshitters. Whistleblowers go to actual journalists and provide evidence so a journalist can print an actual story.
One article. Out of the hundreds he wrote praising the UCP and attacking the NDP. You mean the media that some how gets scopes from the ucp about policy before it's announced? The media that talks about fake Edmonton letters? The western standard that asks soft balls questions or setup the UCP for easy answers? That media?
Rick bell did nothing it was the people that got it reversed!
Power to the people!
I agree that at this point, it’s just a rumour without revealing his sources and why he believes this DM, but Nate has also been accused of being wrong, and proved to be right.
From what I’ve seen, he’s just as reliable as many other independent commentators. He’s not a journalist and from what I’ve seen he doesn’t claim to be, but for an independent commentator, he’s done as well, if not better than many mainstream sources when it comes to Alberta politics.
I did notice that I can’t currently find this tweet on his Twitter account though, so there is a possibility that he’s checking it out, or that he walked it back because it wasn’t reliable. (NOTE: The tweet is still up)
I think a lot of things but I still don’t take gossip from someone who hides behind an alias on a social media site and makes unsubstantiated claims as facts. You do you though.
It’s all over the breakdown podcast… which this Twitter account is for. Took me less than 10 seconds to get a result when googling. He’s not very secret about who he is.

There’s lots of people that voted for her that want this. I am not one of those people. Her time in office cannot end soon enough.
Lots? I do not know anyone who voted for the UCP for social conservative reasons. They voted for the UCP for economic reasons.
That could be, but I know many that support her massive overreach into women’s health and LGBTQ topics. Mostly super religious rural folk that have never taken a moment to consider whether any of that is their business, let alone the governments business.
Good to know. Thanks.

And, how’s the economy going?
Considering the rental increases, grocery gouging causing food insecurity, insane increases in energy costs and homeless rate? Super duper.
Define economy
Don’t kid yourself. Many who claim it was for economic reasons didn’t hold their noses at the idea of banning abortions or risk children’s lives, or demonising the LGTBQIA+ community. Its simple the voters are dumb fucks
The UCP will just do the same that they did with their anti-transgender legislation - gaslight the base. “This is what the LGBTQ community wanted, we’re protecting these wonderful kids” They’ll turn a story about bullying into “look at all the good we’re doing by taking control”
Well, I could hardly see that coming. 😠 /s
I know who would've guessed /s
Called it. Everyone said I was crazy and needed to calm down.
Me, too! I was called a doomsayer.
Nope, turns out we’re just intuitive and don’t believe the whitewash. I hope there’s more of us.
Fuck the UCP The party of cruelty. They want to control every aspect of our lives
Wait till Timbit trump gets into power, Then you'll see some shite.
Is there any fact to substantiate this?
It's a rumour til the policy actually drops.
Hmmm. So like, where’s there’s smoke there’s fire.
Every other thing that we tried to tell UCP supporters she was going to do has happened so there’s no reason to believe this isn’t something that they’re working on
Valid point.
I consider it unsubstantiated at this point, but something for journalists to dig further on and Albertan’s to pay attention to.
My god…I can’t keep track of all the crazy bullshit these clowns keep coming up with.
I mean, they've already restricted access to only Calgary and Edmonton.
As was foretold!
Why am I not surprised at Disaster Danielle and her United Corrupt Party.
Fuck this noise! Get out of our province Marlena. Go climb up trumps ass where you came from.
I’m confused why basic human rights and health care are even a topic of discussion with any party anymore. Like shouldn’t it just be across the board we all get basic human rights and healthcare and have those not be involved in politics? There’s literally no place for this shjt in politics
We are seeing how well that is working out for elected officials in the US. Historic electoral losses in each state who banned abortion.
Not surprising. The Premier can't hold back her regressive caucus and expect to stay in power. And like everything else, Albertans pay the price.
Might as well accept the fact that we’ll soon be living in a quasi-dictatorship. Their idea of freedom leaves a lot to be desired. The Unbridled Corruption Party strikes again!

Access to abortions already varies by province.
You're right. We've gotta go after those feds! /S
Every flipping day, it is something new and terrible😣

This is in charge of health care so obviously abortion is gonna go....
Conservatives will pay any amount if it means a hit of amgdala juice for being awful in service to their fantasies of superiority through making others suffer for fun. No money for better, infinite money to be fking awful.
Can I get the link to this tweet? I need it as evidence in an essay
our current health minister *LaGrange* previously served as the president of Red Deer *Pro-Life*. So are we even remotely "surprised" by this?
Just ask my mother, told her awhile ago that the UCP would ban abortion next ! Ha ha ha I so hate always being right!
So just 2 points, The Breakdown has been wrong many times and second the post seems to very inflammatory as the post has no specifics on how and who. Not saying this isnt happening but this is just an accusation without evidence
For me, it falls under unsubstantiated at this point, but something to pay attention for and not dismiss.
It falls under unsubstantiated, but since the UCP don’t usually bother asking the electorate before they implement…..
It’s gossip. As reliable as TMZ or any gossip magazine.
I didn’t say it was the truth. But it something journalists should do some digging on to see if there is truth. And with the direction politics have been taking, something to be vigilant about.

Whistleblowers are incredibly important and the person that leaked this information would lose their job if it was revealed who they are
You are assuming the DM’s are whistleblowers and not just plain bullshitters. Whistleblowers go to actual journalists and provide evidence so a journalist can print an actual story.
I am sure the papers that endorse the UCP every election would run the story ..../s

Well it’s good to know YOU have done far more research than most people in this thread who are just jumping to conclusions so they can rant.
As if you think they aren't. Please.
I think a lot of things but I still don’t take gossip from someone who hides behind an alias on a social media site and makes unsubstantiated claims as facts. You do you though.
As if they aren't ALWAYS ready to do this. Be so for real.
I’m always real. Read my other posts.
The breakdown isn’t anonymous. It’s Nate Pike isn’t it?
No idea. His name isn’t on it. Hence the concept of anonymous.
It’s all over the breakdown podcast… which this Twitter account is for. Took me less than 10 seconds to get a result when googling. He’s not very secret about who he is.
And yet actual journalists online don’t hide behind an alias and so I don’t bother to follow them or find out who they are.
It’s his fucking brand. He’s not hiding. It’s the name of the show. The account is in the name of the show. The idea is if they like his tweets they’ll listen to his show. Is the Herald now hiding? Global news because the account doesn’t tweet under the names of the anchors? I guess the Western Standard should be burned at the stake because they’re hiding their identities now too 🙄
Every podcast and video he does, starts with his name. You may not have bothered to look further than that, but that doesn’t make him anonymous.
Bring it.
