NTA Teenagers lie. Her mum probably doesn’t let her stay up all night making prank calls to their boyfriends and parents. Twll then if they behave it’s lights out at 10 and no phones! If they misbehave and continue to argue it’s 10 minutes earlier every time they argue.

GoldenGoof19

NTA Don’t let the 13 year olds run games on you. Their moms don’t let them stay up all night and they know it. She won’t hate you forever. You’re the adult, you set the bed time. That’s normal and a good thing. Don’t let them manipulate you into thinking otherwise.

AcanthocephalaOld13

They are just mad the plan didn't go as they thought It's like having a substitute teacher to them.

MoMoJangles

NTA From one aunt to another I’ve had great success with such classics as, “Uh-hu, that’s me! Your crotchety old 27-year-old aunt. You’ll be able to tell your friends all about the torture I put you through tomorrow at the game. I’ll be in the stands cheering. Probably gonna make a sign with your name on it. I’ll put extra glitter on it. Cause I’m evil!! Now go and chow down on that pizza. You only have 3 more hours before the warden turns out the lights!” I’m also not above light bribery. “That’s fine. I’ll be the evil aunt tonight. But if YOU’RE the good niece tonight I’ll make sure to give us enough time to hit up (insert bakery, coffee shop, etc) so you can show up to your game extra pumped.”

capmanor1755

1) Call your sister on speaker phone and either make her ajudicate it or leave a voicemail that your niece can listen in on. Unless she's literally on a flight she better take your call. 2) If you don't hear back give them an hour if they knock off the snark. And damn does your sister owe you one. Watching your niece is one thing but supervising a teenage slumber party is a cage match. NTA.

KC87NQ

NTA. Mum has asked you to do something and you’re trying to stick to it, it’s the right thing. Unfortunately that’s teenagers for you lol try not to take it too personally, they’ll be over it soon enough. Keep up the good work being there for your sister and niece

Lemon586

NTA. 9 when they have to get up early for a game the next morning is perfectly fine. It's a sleepover, so they want to stay up late, that is normal. My question is why is your neice having a sleepover when she is staying with you? Also don't think a sleepover before a big game is a good idea.

Tacostandesaay

My sister agreed to drive the 3 girls to a tournament an hour away and here I am.

Rredhead926

Oh dip! Poor auntie! NTA. This isn't a normal sleepover. I'd probably say lights out at 9 then make sure they were actually asleep by 10. Also, the bribery someone else mentioned is a good idea. Tell them if they're asleep by 10, you'll get them \*$ or something.

Bunny_OnTheMoon

Oh yeah, absolutely, 13 yo girls know what's best for them, you're a monster to make them sleep. NTA.

turndownforwomp

No ruling; 9 is a little early for a sleepover, maybe give them until 10?

Peaceluvprosperity

Eh I agree, let them stay up an extra hour or so, they have to be in the car around six but can get that extra hour of sleep on the drive there. If they’re tired, hopefully that teaches them what they need to know for next time they have a sleepover before a game. But yea, OP is NTA

margery-meanwell

Info: what time do they have to wake up?

Tacostandesaay

I think warm ups are at 8, hour drive so I’m thinking 6am

Imaginary_Being1949

NTA. You’re doing what her mom asked, she’s 14 so everything seems more dramatic than it is.

SimonaMeow

NTA Teenagers are going to push the boundaries Maybe let them stay up until 10pm if they stop whinging They will be glad in the morning that they got the sleep--although they likely won't thank you...

Dry_Weekend7618

NTA, she's 13 and wants to get her way, try not to take it personally

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I’m 27 and watching my niece because my sister got called away on business. My sister’s parting words to me were “they have a game tomorrow, please make sure they get in bed on time.” When my niece showed up this afternoon I told she and her three friends that they need to be lights out by 9 PM. They have been soaking ever since and my niece literally told me I’m the evil aunt and she never wants to speak to me again. I asked her what she was planning on and she said that they were planning on staying up all night and making prank calls to their “boyfriends” and her mom lets her do it all the time and I’m just being a hard ass. Since I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m already exhausted and it’s only 6 PM can somebody please tell me AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Responsible_Hope_831

NTA. Nine pm seems a little bit too early, but maybe give your sister a call for confirmation. Either way her plans of "staying up all night" are not an option, I hardly doubt her mom would allow her to stay up all night the night before a game. I wouldn't take any thing she says by heart, dramatic comes with being a teenager.

0000udeis000

LOL welcome to life with teenagers. NTA

Kdubntheclub

NTA. Though I’d be utterly charmed that kids are still prank calling. How does that work with a cell or do y’all still have landlines?

Tygermouse

Think of it like being in school. The teacher is away and there is a substitute teacher. What student doesn't try to get away with shit? NTA, stand firm. Maybe extend it to 10.

RedditStaffCantCode

INFO are you really confused? She's 13 and obviously lying since her mom herself gave you the bedtime.

Wilted_Peony

NTA. Sounds like a 13y/o being dramatic.

He_Who_Is_Person

ESH 9PM on a Friday? That is kind of harsh. I at least could stay up as I pleased then. I got my As, yadda yadda. (Are you thinking you have to stay up with them the whole time?) Though, they're assholes for pranking anyone, let alone their boyfriends. Then again, teenagers I'm saying ESH because at the end of the day, they're acting petulant because an adult who is liable for them wants them to do a thing they don't want to do. They don't get it, of course. They could just grudgingly accept it. But I don't see what the potential harm. I'd have offered a later time . . . . . . but 9pm? For 13 year olds? They're probably on their phones until AM. I must've been very young when I had a 9pm bedtime.

DiamondGamerYT0

They have a sports game tommorow, you can't stay up late and expect to perform well

AcanthocephalaOld13

A tournament an hour away at that. This is a pretty important outing, I'd guess.

[deleted]

9 is too early for 13 year olds IMHO. What time is the game? Mild YTA

Tacostandesaay

It’s a tournament so I don’t know. Warm ups Are at 8

trappergraves

INFO: Can you text your sister and ask what time they need to be in bed?

Tacostandesaay

I have she said “9 is fine” and that’s it

Big-Ad5914

Then tell your lovely niece that…and she will face consequences from mommy dearest if she doesn’t comply.

trappergraves

If 9 is fine, then she didn't say her daughter could stay up all night. Let your niece know that you talked to her mom and bedtime is still 9.

CassandraArianaBlack

YTA the sleepover before a game is literally for staying up late, getting "hung over" on snacks and sodas, and prank calling cute boys. Didn't you ever go to a middle-school/junior high sleepover?

Tacostandesaay

I played d$d with the “ugly kids”

CassandraArianaBlack

Mmhmm. Well, I'm telling you right now that sleepovers will be forever cancelled at your niece's house if she *doesn't* rebel against your rules tonight.
