Both of my girls had been found as strays and I adopted them both from local human societies. Especially my first girl I can’t fathom who wouldn’t want that dog, she was perfect. She was dumped on the Lakota reservation in South Dakota to fend for her self. It still makes me unreasonably mad to think about even if she’s now crossed the rainbow bridge. So yeah let’s stop breeding dogs that are just going to end up in shelters or stray.

Even if they have the resources, STOP BREEDING THESE DOGS. I have to stop myself from screaming every time I see a post about breeding. Walk into any shelter in the country and you’ll find it’s basically a Pitbulls-R-Us of unwanted, discarded dogs that just want to be loved. It’s at the point now where when I see a litter of pittie puppies, I cry. Because I know what many of them are in for and the shit they’ll have to endure in their life. Because they’re cute now but I’m six months no one will want them. I love pitties, but the world needs more pitties like I need a whole in the head.
Unfortunately its some of the folks that get them, who are kinda like the ones that used to or still do fight them. Ignorant, so rresponsible breeding is almost inevitable in some cases, and some people don't really give a shit much as they pose otherwise. And money.

My girl was kidnapped from her old owners - she was being backyard bred and had WAY too many litters. I’m sure her puppies are BEAUTIFUL but she had a long recovery after a few surgeries. Now she just naps 20/24 hours 😂
Yesterday while walking my dog some random man yelled at us if “she had puppies recently?” and it’s like no she’s SPAYED SHE JUST HAS NIPPLES!

She is ridiculously high energy 😂 I dog sat her for a week while her mom went on vacation and it was the worst week of my life. She woke up at 6AM everyday and just didn’t stop going until like 9pm. We went to the park and a walk every single day she was here and it was just barely enough lol. Her mom and I go to this trail that we can let them be off leash and she will run like literally run the entire hour we are there 😂

Whereas my little lazy baby boy wakes up at around 10 AM, eats breakfast, and then goes back to sleep for another hour or two before he’s finally ready to get up for our morning walk lol

No way in hell was going to track that lady down and give him back. I forgot to mention it, but you can see it on one of the photos, she left a little pamphlet saying what he is and that he’s the runt. No other information.

Right??? If I can get the world’s best boy from a rescue for cheap, why would I spend thousands on a dog that already has a comfy place to live? I would much rather put that money away for vet emergencies, and give a good dog a home.
Damn. I paid $425 for mine. 😂 I just keep telling myself that it helps the rescue group pay to save other dogs. I’ve looked at their financials and they spend a lot on vet care and are very responsible with their spending.
My pup isnt a bully but i love the dogs dearly having grown up with them. Thank you giving a good home to this boy, he looks so sweet.
My boy was an accident puppy that we took in, it worked out for the both of us as i was looking to get a dog and he needed a home haha. My brother in law took one of his brothers. Theyre beautiful dogs, tri color shepherd mixes. My BIL asked me the other day how much the puppies would go for if he bred his dog. I told him $0. He was shocked, saying the puppies would be gorgeous.
I then had to explain that people only pay top dollar when they go through a legitimate breeder, who has pedigrees for the dogs, insurance, resources and the ability to eat the cost of unadopted or returned puppies. Anything else is going to be a on free basis for dogs who need homes.
The most concerning part? The dad and mom(of my puppy) are still unfixed, and there are now also 3 unfixed females as well.
It’s just so stupid. It’s like people look at their dogs and see a way of making money. They don’t think about all of the other factors that go into it. I really hope your brother changes his mind on wanting to breed his dog. My friend and I joke about breeding our dogs and how pretty they will be, but her dog is getting spayed in a couple months and mine is getting fixed. It’s just fun to talk about. But never in a million years would I want that to happen especially knowing absolutely nothing about their health work-ups from parents, etc.

This reminds me of my girl Valentine. A car drove by, rolled the window down and just tossed this sweet girl out the window going at least 30. She was pretty banged up, skinny, had a collar on that was waaaay to tight etc. etc.
She was sweet from the start. She didn’t wanna come inside, it was clear she was chained up in someone’s yard. I had to pick her up and bring her in those days lol. We got her cleaned up, on some really good dog food, she gets baths with good soap and lathered up after in shea butter/coconut oil. She gets treats pretty much every time we go to the store.
It’s amazing what love and a little effort can do.
This sweet girl went from cowering at the door and not coming in without being picked up or gently pushed in to learning how to open my damn door and *let* herself in lol. She was underweight when she found us, she’s right on target if not a pound or two over. She’s has a beautiful boxy/heart head and so muscular (from doing NOTHING!) that I’m kinda jealous lol. Her coats BEAUTIFUL, she has picked up so many commands, she’s gentle (but can get nuts with the zoomies) and really just wants to lay beside you and get petted and loved on. Why I named her Valentine.
These poor dogs get so much hate. People truly do not understand you can make ANY dog mean with neglect and malice and you can make ANY dog amazing with love, work and care. These dogs have hearts of gold, you just need to do right by them

I may. I’ll be honest, I’m kinda weary of posting any type of animal pictures. Maybe this sub is better but in other animal subs, specifically fish and some reptile ones, there’s so terrible folks. Reading the things people say to others that post their animals makes me second guess doing it even tho my animals live a better life than some people give to their actual human kids
I acquired my first pitbull as a "stray" in my brother's neighborhood 16 years ago. He had an owner that was starving and beating him so we made arrangements with his roommate to make sure he got out and just never made his way home again. There was a telepathic component to my communication with that dog (Buster). There will never be another one like him, and I will never have any other dog except a pitbull ♥️
Both my dogs are Adopted from our local animal shelter. When the time comes to get new dogs, we’ll go back to the shelter and I would LOVE to not find it full of needy Pitbulls. I would LOVE to have to wait for them to find a dog, or search further afield.
People want to make a quick buck off a dog they know full well people want. Its any wonder many dogs end up as rescue dogs, or down right euthanized. It is ridiculous.
I have a lovely purebred American pitbull terrier. Gorgeous, highly athletic working dog, in perfect health too. She was $20 at the pound.
When I adopted her they told me some people supposedly found her wandering around on the street and brought her in as a stray but I think they probably got her from a breeder, then when they realized how insanely high energy she is, they brought her to the pound and lied about her being a stray so they wouldnt have to pay the $70 surrender fee.
But it's just really disgusting to me that people would purposefully breed dogs like her. I absoltuely love pitbulls as much as the next guy and I'm not even a purely adopt dont shop type of person; I will never get a dog from a breeder myself but I can see the value in ethical breeders in certain contexts. But pits..? Cmon. My purebred was a pound puppy. Nobody is ethically breeding pitbulls, full stop. Theres no argument to be made for the preservation of the breed, since they're already far and away the most common in the US. It's not like pitbulls are particularly great working dogs; some certainly are, like my pup is defintiely a sport dog, but pretty much nobody is gonna say yeah I want an agility dog, let me go get a pitbull. pits might be good at agility or whatever else but its decidedly not what people are breeding them for. Maybe you could argue they're breeding for show but with how shaky the recognition for the breed even is across kennel clubs (not recognized by the AKC for example) and with how many people prioritize disqualifying features like merle and excessive bulkiness, theres just no way. people breeding pits are either in it for a quick buck, have no idea what they're doing, or both. Just get them spayed or neutered -.- and for the love of god if you want a pitbull puppy please just go to your local shelter. You'll get the same type of puppy for significantly cheaper and you dont support the first type of breeder who's just trying to get some cash. Theyll stop breeding them if people stop giving them money

I completely agree, but unfortunately, as long as there is a market for them, people will do it. If people would stop buying from breeders and rescue instead, it would stop, or at least slow down significantly. The words "I bought a dog" will immediately make me grind my teeth.
I can understand wanting a certain breed, etc, but with how many dogs are shelters I feel like everyone first choice should be to rescue a dog instead? My family growing up has always adopted through a shelter. We’ve only ever had one “bad” dog and he wasn’t even bad, just not right for our family at the time.
I don't know if I agree with this. Rescues should be for RESCUING animals. Cracking down on backyard breeders seems like a more logical first step, instead of relying on the public to "do the right thing". I also think that breeders should take on some of the heavy lifting for the breeds, and work more closely with breed specific rescues to provide education, low cost spay and neuter clinics, and breed specific training for people who buy dogs from them, or rescue dogs of that breed. But the call of making more money reigns supreme always.

My Lily is (according to her DNA profile) 100% AmStaff. She doesn't look it. Taller, leaner, black with a white collar that has spots. I adopted her from the family that took her in when a guy drove to their grocery store and tossed her out. They already had a dog, and their landlord had a one dog policy, so they posted her adorable photo on a local rescue site.
My guess is that he was a byb and she is a throwback genetically. He couldn't get $500 for her, so he threw her out of his truck.
His loss, my gain.
All three of mine are rescues, an Irish Wolfa-doodle, a havenese-doodle and a german shepherd -lab. They were dumped or turned over to a rescue (which is at least respectable). anyone who harms one of these innocent, beautiful creatures will inherit a hell on earth. This is not a guess. it's true. what they do to any other being they did to themselves. I certainly can't imagine how harsh that karma is but it's the worst.
But on the other side of that is us. You are caring person and he is your blessing. he had to walk that path, just like you have to arrive here. His extreme situation and your being his savior, has created a new love in the universe and that is powerful.
All of the dogs i've adopted have rescued my soul and they are all my children, even those whose consciousness is still here with me. they are truly the greatest gift we were granted.

My girl was stuffed in an outdoor kennel for the first four years of her life and used for breeding. The vet estimated by the scarring on her uterus that she must have had around five c-sections. FIVE. She didn’t even know what living in a house was like and still startles very easily. She is living her best life now, and my husband and I love her to death, but it makes me furious to think about how much this is still happening.
She was one of 62 dogs confiscated from a “hobby breeder” and then taken to an overcrowded shelter. I’m so thankful to the local rescue who sponsored her and took care of her through her final pregnancy

I acquired my first pitbull as a "stray" in my brother's neighborhood 16 years ago. He had an owner that was starving and beating him so we made arrangements with his roommate to make sure he got out and just never made his way home again. There was a telepathic component to my communication with that dog (Buster). There will never be another one like him, and I will never have any other dog except a pitbull ♥️

Both my dogs are Adopted from our local animal shelter. When the time comes to get new dogs, we’ll go back to the shelter and I would LOVE to not find it full of needy Pitbulls. I would LOVE to have to wait for them to find a dog, or search further afield.

I have a lovely purebred American pitbull terrier. Gorgeous, highly athletic working dog, in perfect health too. She was $20 at the pound. When I adopted her they told me some people supposedly found her wandering around on the street and brought her in as a stray but I think they probably got her from a breeder, then when they realized how insanely high energy she is, they brought her to the pound and lied about her being a stray so they wouldnt have to pay the $70 surrender fee. But it's just really disgusting to me that people would purposefully breed dogs like her. I absoltuely love pitbulls as much as the next guy and I'm not even a purely adopt dont shop type of person; I will never get a dog from a breeder myself but I can see the value in ethical breeders in certain contexts. But pits..? Cmon. My purebred was a pound puppy. Nobody is ethically breeding pitbulls, full stop. Theres no argument to be made for the preservation of the breed, since they're already far and away the most common in the US. It's not like pitbulls are particularly great working dogs; some certainly are, like my pup is defintiely a sport dog, but pretty much nobody is gonna say yeah I want an agility dog, let me go get a pitbull. pits might be good at agility or whatever else but its decidedly not what people are breeding them for. Maybe you could argue they're breeding for show but with how shaky the recognition for the breed even is across kennel clubs (not recognized by the AKC for example) and with how many people prioritize disqualifying features like merle and excessive bulkiness, theres just no way. people breeding pits are either in it for a quick buck, have no idea what they're doing, or both. Just get them spayed or neutered -.- and for the love of god if you want a pitbull puppy please just go to your local shelter. You'll get the same type of puppy for significantly cheaper and you dont support the first type of breeder who's just trying to get some cash. Theyll stop breeding them if people stop giving them money
These are my thoughts as well. Pitbulls are such high energy dogs and people don’t see that. They see an adorable little puppy.

I completely agree, but unfortunately, as long as there is a market for them, people will do it. If people would stop buying from breeders and rescue instead, it would stop, or at least slow down significantly. The words "I bought a dog" will immediately make me grind my teeth.
I can understand wanting a certain breed, etc, but with how many dogs are shelters I feel like everyone first choice should be to rescue a dog instead? My family growing up has always adopted through a shelter. We’ve only ever had one “bad” dog and he wasn’t even bad, just not right for our family at the time.
I don't know if I agree with this. Rescues should be for RESCUING animals. Cracking down on backyard breeders seems like a more logical first step, instead of relying on the public to "do the right thing". I also think that breeders should take on some of the heavy lifting for the breeds, and work more closely with breed specific rescues to provide education, low cost spay and neuter clinics, and breed specific training for people who buy dogs from them, or rescue dogs of that breed. But the call of making more money reigns supreme always.

My Lily is (according to her DNA profile) 100% AmStaff. She doesn't look it. Taller, leaner, black with a white collar that has spots. I adopted her from the family that took her in when a guy drove to their grocery store and tossed her out. They already had a dog, and their landlord had a one dog policy, so they posted her adorable photo on a local rescue site. My guess is that he was a byb and she is a throwback genetically. He couldn't get $500 for her, so he threw her out of his truck. His loss, my gain.
All three of mine are rescues, an Irish Wolfa-doodle, a havenese-doodle and a german shepherd -lab. They were dumped or turned over to a rescue (which is at least respectable). anyone who harms one of these innocent, beautiful creatures will inherit a hell on earth. This is not a guess. it's true. what they do to any other being they did to themselves. I certainly can't imagine how harsh that karma is but it's the worst. But on the other side of that is us. You are caring person and he is your blessing. he had to walk that path, just like you have to arrive here. His extreme situation and your being his savior, has created a new love in the universe and that is powerful. All of the dogs i've adopted have rescued my soul and they are all my children, even those whose consciousness is still here with me. they are truly the greatest gift we were granted.

The vet estimated by the scarring on her uterus that she must have had around five c-sections. FIVE. She didn’t even know what living in a house was like and still startles very easily. She is living her best life now, and my husband and I love her to death, but it makes me furious to think about how much this is still happening.
