God I fucking wish it wasn't made by a huge creep. Absolutely loved watching made in Abyss, but finding out about that goon really retroactively tainted my enjoyment.
The mangaka is like super outspoken about his weird fetishes and has publicly liked porn of the main characters in made in abyss. You know, the literal children.
It really recontextualized the continuous scenes of characters pissing and pooping themselves. First time I thought "wow that was so raw, traumatic, and realistic". The fourth time I thought it was getting weird how many times characters were soiling themselves which set off alarm bells in my head. Then I found all this out about the mangaka, and now I realize it's all just an outlet for that creep's fetishes.
Which is a damn fucking shame because the show is fantastic if you ignored the creepy shit. But I just can't recommend it to my friends now because of all of this.
That's a hallow btw. Yep, you heard me. It's an ex-human. An employee at the hotel.
Edit: and remember, the hallows take the form of their desires so... yeah.
Considering both you and the guy I responded to both assume this author is a pedophile can you show me the source of him saying he's into porn of his characters?
When someone points out that fetishizing kids in your anime is not a good thing... normal people don't respond with "well, it's better than assaulting real kids".
Using personal attacks when allegedly discussing a topic indicates you're looking to self aggrandize rather than argue in good faith.
I'm pointing out that if this person has these proclivities and this is their outlet that's far better than acting on them irl.
Japan has a poor history with mental health.
Short of locking this person up pre-emptively for a thought crime this is the best outcome.
You're making the assumption that I'm trying to argue at all lmao
Not everything is an opening for an argument. I'm not looking to give you an inch here. I said that the guy is gross, and what he is doing is wrong. Full stop.
I'm going to tack on that you are also gross for trying to come in with any argument, good faith or not, as I never said to lock the guy up.
It's gross. What he has done is gross. End of discussion.
If they are one of my trusted friends? Yes. If not? No, regardless of what hentai they watch I wouldn’t let a stranger or non-close friend babysit my hypothetical child.
I was collecting the manga until volume 5 or 6 when one of the colored pages was one of the kids naked and in a sexual pose. I thought I could get past the weird humor but that was too much
Made in Abyss is a fine example of "love the art, not the artist".
He's probably a decent dude overall, but I'd rather he be supervised when around children.
Yeah honestly for how relatively naive and innocent Gon is and considering HXH at the time was part of its generation’s shounen big 3, I remember being really surprised just how dark HxH got.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Utena. It starts off fine, but after episode 15 or so, you find out all the messed up stuff that's going on in the anime.
As a mother/grandmother, Kodomo no Jikan was fucked. Looks like a happy school anime with young children instead of teens as the MCs. I didn't research this before watching, and I'm glad I didn't choose it for family anime night!
An 8 year old falls in love with a guy who's in his 20s and HE ACTUALLY GETS WITH HER! Admittedly, he only gets with her in the manga, but the show is still creepy.
I...still enjoyed it enough to seek out the manga. Just know it's fucked up pedophilia and lolicon shit.
Yes, yes it is. As long as people realize it's fictional. So many people bash it just because it's lolicon. It's pixels. It's not for the family, but it's very interesting. Rin's behavior is actually common in sexually abused kids.
I literally finished season a couple weeks ago what happened was the wanted no filler episodes an just wanted to get the main plot line details from the manga I was so disappointed how they rushed things
I really need to stop talking about this anime, but Somali and the Forest Spirit (just one anime, not multiple) has tons of heartfelt moments, wholesomeness, and overall is one of my favorite comfort animes.
That said, it's also a big fuckin' tearjerker and they do NOT hesitate to get dark when they want to.
can someone explain how angel beats is dark? i ain't watched it in uears nor so i remember it being that dark tbh lol I'm a bit confused seeing it here
Kaiba
:D
Super super innocent almost astro boyish but super colorful show, like more cute cartoony chibi characters.
But is is one of the most dark, yet enlightening, makes you think about existence in general, way more than Angel Beats! Or most other series I've seen.
About everyone being able to transfer their consciousness to different bodies via chips, but there is also a plant that travels to eat all the memories of all things, engulfing planets.
Lots of mini stories going on as well as a deep love story within traversing bodies and gender, that even if you forget everything you'll still be drawn to the one you love.
That death doesn't mean death, but a bunch of other philosophical things.
The music hits deep on how it makes you feel too.
I highly recommend watching it to anyone and everyone.

school live is my favourite animanga oat. ive watched all shows listed, plus a dozen more, and I can't find anything that scratches that itch nearly as well
I haven't seen ANY of the anime everybody mentions in this thread. Thanks, now I have stuff to watch!
I'll throw in Steins;gate. Season 1 was good, it got kinda dark and tense, but Season 2. Man, I had to take breaks, it was so stressful (in a good way) to binge watch. So much going on and all the way to the very last scene, stress and more stress. I felt physically worn out during Season 2. To me, one of the best dark love stories I've ever experienced.
Your Lie in April, Angel Beats, Promised Neverland, Heavenly Delusion, Oshi No Ko
As for some oldies since I’m old: Full Moon Wo Sagashite, Angelic Layer, and Princess Tutu
Angel Beats
I’ve seen it already I literally cried my eyes out at the end
literally my first thought but stop 😭😭😭
This is my favorite anime trope and I have watched all 6 of these mentioned lol
Made in Abyss. For a lot of reasons.
God I fucking wish it wasn't made by a huge creep. Absolutely loved watching made in Abyss, but finding out about that goon really retroactively tainted my enjoyment.
Wait what happened? I never watched the show
The mangaka is like super outspoken about his weird fetishes and has publicly liked porn of the main characters in made in abyss. You know, the literal children. What the naked loli suspension bondage in book 1 didn't warn you?
Honestly, I think i just sort of blocked that out of my memory and forgot about it until I got to the flower toilet that licks you clean.
That's a hallow btw. Yep, you heard me. It's an ex-human. An employee at the hotel. Edit: and remember, the hallows take the form of their desires so... yeah.
😟
As long as he doesn't go after actual kids this is far better. Distasteful though.
Oh great... another one...
Considering both you and the guy I responded to both assume this author is a pedophile can you show me the source of him saying he's into porn of his characters?
Not assaulting kids is a pretty low bar that you're placing.
In this context that's exactly what the bar is because that's the topic.
When someone points out that fetishizing kids in your anime is not a good thing... normal people don't respond with "well, it's better than assaulting real kids".

I recently started watching it for the first time and did notice some weird scenes might still finish it to see it till end though
Ew what the hell? What's with all these Mangakas being pedos?
People on the internet learn what that word means challenge: impossible
Would you let someone who watches loli porn babysit your 8 year old daughter?
If they are one of my trusted friends? Yes. If not? No, regardless of what hentai they watch I wouldn’t let a stranger or non-close friend babysit my hypothetical child.
GODDAMNIT WHY DID I HAVE TO FIND OUT LIKE THUIS SADKFAGSDUI;HFupygf;iudhsg i guess that explains all the penis jokes, too.... jesus....
Yeah... sorry to break it to you, it really fuckin sucks :(
I think they're just talking about the weird pedo stuff the author puts in sometimes. Not sure tho, comment's really vague
Despite all that I will see what is at the bottom of the abyss…..I’ll just ignore all the creepy pedo stuff and pretend it doesn’t exist.
Yeahhh ill probably have to do the same. At least I'm not giving any money for it though.
I was collecting the manga until volume 5 or 6 when one of the colored pages was one of the kids naked and in a sexual pose. I thought I could get past the weird humor but that was too much

School days , angel beats , the promise never land ,it’s not anime but happy tree friends
Angel Beats It’s just perfect and a leasson to our lives. Amazing Plot Twist
Love angel beats. Have you seen Air TV?
No
It's so good.
HxH really threw me off from the first episode to Hisoka's existence. Then the Chimera Ants came...
Yeah honestly for how relatively naive and innocent Gon is and considering HXH at the time was part of its generation’s shounen big 3, I remember being really surprised just how dark HxH got.
Nah that’s so real, how did it go from a boy going on an adventure to find his dad to [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kfld760xjtA)
Honestly HxH first shocked me pretty early on when Killua ripped that guys heart out of his chest in the tower during the hunter exam
not an anime but the video game Doki Doki Literature Club, it’s a visual novel with anime styling
Madoka Magica is such a masterpiece
Higurashi is always the first one I think about

Maybe Magical Girl Site if you like madoka and future diary
I was just about to comment magical girl site
Magical girl raising project. Not as good as madoka, but it'll scratch the itch
My biggest issue with Magical Girl Raising Project is that there were way too many characters for the length of the series.

School Days. Elfen Lied.
As a mother/grandmother, Kodomo no Jikan was fucked. Looks like a happy school anime with young children instead of teens as the MCs. kojika so good
Yes, yes it is. As long as people realize it's fictional. So many people bash it just because it's lolicon. It's pixels. It's not for the family, but it's very interesting. Rin's behavior is actually common in sexually abused kids.
Death parade, get baited by the op theme
Mother of the goddesses’ dormitory. I was sorely mistaken…
spoiler? pls
Looks cute, but it's basically hentai.
Ahh yes the old loli bait and switch
It’s a manga “when I feel in love with a 11 year old as 22” very scary
You’re very scary for reading a manga called “when I fell in love with an 11 year old at 22”
In what world does that seem innocent?
umineko. mayoiga.
Oshi no ko
Magical girl raising project Selector infected WIXOSS Promised Neverland (season 1)
Do not watch The Promised Neverland, season 2. I'm told that the manga is fine.
I literally finished season a couple weeks ago what happened was the wanted no filler episodes an just wanted to get the main plot line details from the manga I was so disappointed how they rushed things
Princess Tutu
Princess tutu is phenomenal
Wdym happy sugar life was super wholesome, best op I ever done heard too

Magical Girl Raising Project seems like it fits the bill if you liked Madoka

Made in Abyss.
I really need to stop talking about this anime, but Somali and the Forest Spirit (just one anime, not multiple) has tons of heartfelt moments, wholesomeness, and overall is one of my favorite comfort animes.
