Oh it’s not 1 windshield, it’s every windshield in every vehicle, and once you replace it, it gets chipped/cracked again like a week to 6 months later. It’s amazing
It’s brutal, got a 21 Durango hellcat in aug of that year, 3 months later I drove the wife to the airport 3 hours away, bam rock chip on the way home, resulted in large crack, got it drilled out to stop the crack… insufficient and resumed cracking. $180 for the failed repair. Put a brand new windshield in the 03 Mazda protege last year, guess what got a rock chip and is starting to crack this year. I know it sounds funny but to live here and deal with it is kinda hard and depressing. That’s not to mention the paint chips
You can defend against rust but there ain’t shit you can do to avoid a pebble cracking half your windshield. And of course it always cracks right in front of the drivers side
We salt the shit out of our roads but if you oil spray it really helps. My truck doesn’t even have any surface rust after four salty winters. Filthy with dirty rustproofing oil though. I can also report that the driveway is also free of rust.
It’s actually hilarious to me when people from other parts of the country come here and are always like “why does everyone have a broken windshield, like why not fix it?”
And I’m like “oh hunny…..”
We definitely use salt in Alberta. That white shit on your car if you don’t wash it for a week in the winter isn’t road grime. That’s also why every pickup truck has rusted out fenders/tailgate in less than 10 years.
We have been using salt (both sodium chloride and calcium chloride) for a long time. City of Calgary only finally stopped saying “it’s not salt, it’s calcium chloride” a couple years ago, but they’ve been using it a long time. It’s just not *rock salt*.
Yep would be considered rust free in PA. Price seems to be a bit high. But prices vary in different states. I see them go for $12-$14k around the same mileage and year.
In Australia that would be "rusty as sh*t". We scrap cars with no rust just because it would cost too much for a "road worthy" that would be factory fresh pristine to you guys.
if there’s a place around you that will oil spray the bottom, i’d recommend getting that done
wait, what state are you in?
edit: not really a necessity unless you live in a place that salts the roads
They said SC. We have one salt truck for the whole state. The only people who need to worry about salt are fishing guides that live on the coast and are constantly taking their boats in and out of the water.
Can’t say I have ever noticed anything like that. I don’t live at the beach but have lived close enough to a brackish river for 5 years and never noticed salt being an issue.
no, it’s not. oxidation can’t continue without oxygen. a good penetrating oil spray treatment will prevent a lot of oxygen from reaching the iron.
best case scenario you halt the rusting, worst case you slow it down. it’s certainly better than doing nothing.
in your little metaphor, that would be like not taking valacyclovir based on some unfounded belief that it doesn’t work.
you’re talking to someone who has both herpes and some very rusty cars... you’re out of your element, Donny
Go ask any autobody shop to do rust removal and guarantee their work. You'll be laughed out of them all. Once the rust starts good luck. It will comeback
You can buy rust cover too the spray cans for like $10 that cover rust black in spots you think it might be real bad and it will stop it from spreading at least. But if ur in the Carolina’s does rust even matter? Lol
Generally not but there are a few areas in the mountains where it snows quite a bit. The outer Banks and some coastal areas would be subjected a lot of salt from the ocean. I live in the Piedmont and they do salt the roads several times a year. I always give it a good washing once the snow and salt is gone.
Oh Lord, you don't want to crawl under a 5 or 6 year old vehicle from the Rust Belt. And it's worse now with the brine pre-treatment that's put down now.
I’m not. I’m actually shopping for a 1-ton right now for a trailer hauler. Used prices are insane. 10-year old diesel 1-tons with 110k+ miles on them are still going for 60-70% of their msrp. Driving me nuts looking for deals. Probably will end up waiting for a manufacturer incentive for low interest rates on a new one.
I spent all last winter living in Tahoe shopping for a used Toyota, with access to Reno & Sac & The Bay, and I never once saw a decent 4Runner this age so cheap. It’s a deal
As much as I like Toyota, I'm beginning to wonder if all the prase we give the company is hiking up their used vechicle prices. I wouldn't pay $18,500 for any vechicle with 140,000 miles.
I've personally owned and dailyed 4 Toyotas well over the quarter-million mark (one Camry had over 400k on the ODO *when I bought it*, drove it hard slinging pizza for a few years and still ran like a clock when I traded it ~490k). They're worth the premium. That's not to say *every* used Toyota is worth shelling out a ton of money for, but I'd sooner buy a 10yo Camry with 140k miles than a Sonata fresh off the lot. The Camry will last longer.
After they're 25 years old if you want a clean title and plates. Sure, people find loopholes, but it really sucks when the Feds show up, confiscate it, and crush it with a bulldozer.
11½ year old. But it's canadian dollars. In USD 18500 is roughly 14k that's about right
Oh wait your talking USA? Dude, look at Kelly bluebook. I wouldn't pay a dime over 15 and only if it's 4x4 limited trim fully loaded at a dealership since they always mark up price..
Just because people are stupid enough to pay it doesn't mean it's not a worn out piece of junk. There was a dealer around here who wanted to sell me a 6 year old Honda Pilot with 200k miles for $3500 less than it's original MSRP. (And that was pre-pandemic.) It amazes me that someone could see >100k miles and not blink.
I agree. Don't get me wrong 4runners are great and the price seems high but it's average at the moment. Unless your specifically looking for this car you can do better.
Certainly not a “complete” view of the underbody but whats shown is absolutely acceptable! Would definitely be scrutinizing the exhaust. Have a local mechanic do a “pre-inspection” to get a good once over. If no plates and/or dealer wont let you “test drive”, then bring someone knowledgeable or you are relying solely on strangers take on 6 pics of some parts under this thing!!
Best of luck!!
Put it on a lift. Power wash, let dry, then dose it all with some pb blaster surface shield, amsoil metal protector or equivalent. Repeat every couple years and it’ll last a very long time.
1500 grit sandpaper in a garage very meticulously all day. The next day hit it with RUSTOLEUM. Check every 6 months. I used to do this when I lived in NYC. If you really want to get fancy in the summer you sand, prime, rustoleum and then clearcoat. If done correctly it will last for years.
Condition definitely isn't bad for the age and definitely repairable. Not bad for milage. The price tag of 18.5k is horrendous! I would not pay that much for it.
$18,500 USD for an 11 year old car with 140k MILES on it?
How much money do you have that you're giving away exactly? I'll take some.
I've got some coasters over here made out of pure-bred cedar trees I'll sell you. $20 a coaster or $60 for a set of 4.
Why is everyone saying this is 13years old are you retarded. It’s 2023 the car is a 2012. It’s 11 years old. 12 at most of you consider it’s almost 2024.
Model year =/= Calendar year. An early build 2012 could've been produced and be on a dealer's lot part-way through 2011... which makes it closer to being 13 years old.
It’s not a full year they make it around 1/2 year early at most and it could’ve also been 1/2 into 2012 as well so tacking on an extra year to the model year when talking about cars is stupid. Not to mention they are kept in very good condition before arriving at the dealer and have almost no wear.
> I am not even sure whether because it was 6 years old when it got rusted worse than your shared picture or it is because of I got stuck on a mud once
Hello, fellow Wisconsinite. Isn’t it a bit comical how people who aren’t familiar with *only* surface rust are, being from the rust belt area yourself? Their heads would explode if they saw how rusty vehicles get after a few years of Wisco or northern Michigan daily winter driving, lol!
It's kinda suspect that the exhaust has been replaced but looks fine
These newish 4 runners don't make sense to me... Get a 2003 you're getting the same engine, transmission, frame, suspension, steering, brakes, and 4x4 system for a literal fraction of the price
If you want to get picky about it the 2010 model year is when they introduced dual vvti in the 4.0 which did give it a bump in power and I assume mpg and went from an 8.0" to 8.2" rear differential
Looks as good as my 2011 4Runner with 170k KMS.
Price depends on where you are. In BC that price is good. When I moved from Ontario to BC the value of my 4runner junped $10k. I almost sold it but glad I didnt.

That’s Canadian mint
Mint. Source: salt belt Canadian
Is there any other belt in Canada?
Alberta. No salt. But 2/3rds of the cars (trucks) on the road have busted windshields from all the chunky sand they lay down instead.
I’d take a busted windshield over losing a vehicle to rust any day
Oh it’s not 1 windshield, it’s every windshield in every vehicle, and once you replace it, it gets chipped/cracked again like a week to 6 months later. It’s amazing
So maybe pexiglass time? Or maybe remove the windshield and try a motorcycle helmet? 😂
I know it sounds funny but to live here and deal with it is kinda hard and depressing. That’s not to mention the paint chips
In Saskatchewan, they use gravel *and* salt.
You can defend against rust but there ain’t shit you can do to avoid a pebble cracking half your windshield. And of course it always cracks right in front of the drivers side
Yeah but a windshield is like $500 but rust can quickly be thousands in body work
Maybe in 1996. Try getting a quote for changing a windshield with collision cameras behind it....
that’s a very good point I didn’t think in
We salt the shit out of our roads but if you oil spray it really helps. My truck doesn’t even have any surface rust after four salty winters. Filthy with dirty rustproofing oil though. I can also report that the driveway is also free of rust.
It’s actually hilarious to me when people from other parts of the country come here and are always like “why does everyone have a broken windshield, like why not fix it?” And I’m like “oh hunny…..”
It's so annoying when the rocks get kicked up, but it happens all the time

The bagel belt from Tim Hortons.
It’s too cold where I live for salt to work so it isn’t used. We just put gravel down for traction instead.
Holy shit where u at?
Was gunna say what rust 😅
Yep would be considered rust free in PA. Price seems to be a bit high. But prices vary in different states. I see them go for $12-$14k around the same mileage and year.
Miiiint👌
In Australia that would be "rusty as sh*t". We scrap cars with no rust just because it would cost too much for a "road worthy" that would be factory fresh pristine to you guys.
Looks fine to me. Normal age and wear for that area.
Agreed
Great. I wasn't sure if the rust on the seams was normal or not. Thanks for your input!
if there’s a place around you that will oil spray the bottom, i’d recommend getting that done wait, what state are you in? edit: not really a necessity unless you live in a place that salts the roads
They said SC. We have one salt truck for the whole state. The only people who need to worry about salt are fishing guides that live on the coast and are constantly taking their boats in and out of the water.
The same SC whose winter catalogue shows shorts and long sleeved T shirts ?
South Carolina had like 4 days below freezing last Christmas. It was brutal.
Dang, that was terrible !
There’s a saying in Florida where I am….”Winter was tough this year…BOTH days!” 😁
Or as we say in my house. "Hey it's cold out there. Had to turn off the AC."
welllll, lucky you!! all of southern ontario is as salty as the atlantic for 5 months a year. i’m sure it’s great for the environment
You mean “anyone near the coast” that shit eats everything. I woke up to a layer of salt on my phone once when I left a window open down there lol
Can’t say I have ever noticed anything like that. I don’t live at the beach but have lived close enough to a brackish river for 5 years and never noticed salt being an issue.
Oil spray is pointless once the rust begins. Its like putting a condom on once you get herpes. Herpes and rust 4 life yo.
no, it’s not. oxidation can’t continue without oxygen. a good penetrating oil spray treatment will prevent a lot of oxygen from reaching the iron. best case scenario you halt the rusting, worst case you slow it down. it’s certainly better than doing nothing. in your little metaphor, that would be like not taking valacyclovir based on some unfounded belief that it doesn’t work. you’re talking to someone who has both herpes and some very rusty cars... you’re out of your element, Donny

There's plenty of space between pointless and completely defeats rust. I put fluid film on my car in Ohio.
You can buy rust cover too the spray cans for like $10 that cover rust black in spots you think it might be real bad and it will stop it from spreading at least. But if ur in the Carolina’s does rust even matter? Lol

What rust? That's mint here in Ohio.
Shit, don’t even need to go that far. Come check out my Chevy here on Long Island
I feel like rust isn’t too bad here on LI, most cars I’ve come across just have surface rust.
That’s what last years 23’s look like now
Cleaner than a new one on a lot in Cleveland
Always weird how much things are different. Here in GA, I'd walk away from this.
Oh Lord, you don't want to crawl under a 5 or 6 year old vehicle from the Rust Belt. And it's worse now with the brine pre-treatment that's put down now.
Yea I don't envy yall. We've got cars that have been sitting in a field for 40 years and are still less rusty than your 5 year old car.
Do you think that 18.5k is a good deal? It’s not
It is. You must be a boomer or know nothing about cars. These will turn over on the odometer with the proper care. Frame looks great too.
Not a boomer, definitely not a sucker. That’s a sucker price. Should be closer to 10k, even w/ our modern day Monopoly money.
Toyota tax. Go look at 4x4 Toyota trucks from the 80’s. If they run in any shape they still at 6000+
6k is a lot different than 18.5k. You guys sound like used car salesmen.
13 year old car for $18,000 ???
No... 13 year old 4Runner... they're in a price bracket of their own.
4runners have a crazy depreciation curve
I’ll say
I spent all last winter living in Tahoe shopping for a used Toyota, with access to Reno & Sac & The Bay, and I never once saw a decent 4Runner this age so cheap. It’s a deal
With 140,000 miles?
They can easy last 300k miles. We just bought an ‘08 with 100k for $14k. These things are beasts
With $140,000 miles?
Yeah, they don't lol
As much as I like Toyota, I'm beginning to wonder if all the prase we give the company is hiking up their used vechicle prices. I wouldn't pay $18,500 for any vechicle with 140,000 miles.

Exactly. I have an 03 Tacoma with 200,000. A 2000 Tacoma with 390,000. A 74’ Land Cruiser with 625,000 original engine miles. They don’t die.
You should see what Land Cruisers are going for…
First time?
Normal for a Toyota 4runner. They don't die, hence why they are so desirable and have high resale value.

Good luck getting one in the US
you guys know you can import cars right? i’ve done it.
After they're 25 years old if you want a clean title and plates. Sure, people find loopholes, but it really sucks when the Feds show up, confiscate it, and crush it with a bulldozer.
In all fairness if it’s a Hilux, it’ll probably still run and drive…
11½ year old. But it's canadian dollars. In USD 18500 is roughly 14k that's about right Oh wait your talking USA? Dude, look at Kelly bluebook. I wouldn't pay a dime over 15 and only if it's 4x4 limited trim fully loaded at a dealership since they always mark up price..
That's including the Toyota tax
Toyotas man…. They just tend to hold their value
Have you priced Toyotas recently?
With 140k miles!!! That's just dumb.
Just a joke, but they said somewhere it was in Canada, so MAYBE….that 140,000 was km, which brings it down to, say, 92,000 miles? Lol
Add an extra 4k to the asking price then.
Not a mechanic but own 2 Toyotas. It better have 4x4 at that price.
+ Limited trim. But like still should only be like 15. At a dealership. Private party- even less
It is 4x4, you can see the front drive shaft go frontwards to the skid plate
What rust???? Come to canada lmfao
Happy cake day! Can confirm on the additional underside colors. That tint is mint!
Happy cake day!
$18,500 for a 140k 2012 4runner? That price alone isn't acceptable
I'm seeing 2012 ones near that mileage going around $19-20k
Just because people are stupid enough to pay it doesn't mean it's not a worn out piece of junk. There was a dealer around here who wanted to sell me a 6 year old Honda Pilot with 200k miles for $3500 less than it's original MSRP. (And that was pre-pandemic.) It amazes me that someone could see >100k miles and not blink.
Pretty much the definition of "worth" or "value" when discussing cars: what people are willing to pay for it.
So crazy to me that people can put 200k miles on a car in 6 years.. that's almost 100 miles every day on average
That’s because your experience seems to be based on new cars, and especially NOT 4Runners
Those are probably dealers. I'm talking about cash value of the vehicle
Lesson learned, don’t be like other stupid people
I'm seeing most around $10000
8500 at best
Price seems steep even for a 4 runner, otherwise it's fine underneath.
The price is high
Stretch your budget a little and you could buy a car with 0 miles.
I agree. Don't get me wrong 4runners are great and the price seems high but it's average at the moment. Unless your specifically looking for this car you can do better.
20k out the door with tax. 140k miles for 20k? Crazy.
That price with that mileage is crazy!!
Looks really good for a 13 year old car.
That's dealership new here in wv
Looks good but it’s still overpriced 😂
As a Michigander living in the rust belt: what rust?
I'd be more concerned about the price of that 13 year old 4Runner with 140k miles. That's way too much, don't do it.
Idgaf if it's a Toyota 4runner. 20k after tax/tags/etc for a 11 year old car with 140k miles is stupid af.
Just barely getting started there. Recommend spraying the whole thing with rust converter primer and driving it.
I’m from Minnesota so that looks damn near like new.
Put it on a lift. Power wash, let dry, then dose it all with some pb blaster surface shield, amsoil metal protector or equivalent. Repeat every couple years and it’ll last a very long time.
Cries in Midwest. What rust?
1500 grit sandpaper in a garage very meticulously all day. The next day hit it with RUSTOLEUM. Check every 6 months. I used to do this when I lived in NYC. If you really want to get fancy in the summer you sand, prime, rustoleum and then clearcoat. If done correctly it will last for years.
What under body rust? Cars in the UK look like that after a few days on the dealer forecourt.
Condition definitely isn't bad for the age and definitely repairable. Not bad for milage. The price tag of 18.5k is horrendous! I would not pay that much for it.
There's almost zero rust in there, so don't worry. However the price seems too big
Are people out of their minds, offer him $5k
What underbody rust?
Bro 18k for a 2012 Toyota ? Am I the only one that thinks that’s crazy
18k for a 2012 anything is crazy
Pay a mechanic to look it over. I legit seller would not object
Seems a bit overpriced imo
A ten year old, half used up car for $18k?!! Does it come with built-in deployable hookers or a coke dispenser?!
Lol, what rust? Come and take a looky-loo at any Minnesota vehicle with more than one winter on it, and it’ll look way worse than this
a lot of money for a 14yo vehicle w 140k mi
$18,500 USD for an 11 year old car with 140k MILES on it? How much money do you have that you're giving away exactly? I'll take some. I've got some coasters over here made out of pure-bred cedar trees I'll sell you. $20 a coaster or $60 for a set of 4.
Why? 11 year old car with 140k for 18500, please don't! It's crazy you are even considering this imho
What underbody rust?!
18,5k is high... I wouldn't do it, unless they have impeccable service records.. the rust ain't bad though 👌
Plan on getting a tailpipe.
140k miles is a lot even for a 4Runner. And 18k seems like a lot too but maybe you are from where these 4x4 are valuable
If it was maintained somewhat decent 140k isn’t even half it’s possible life
140k is peanuts for a 2010 4Runner.
Lol!
Price high
Almost satire - I don't think I've ever seen a frame this clean.
I think they just failed math class
They took a meth class instead 🤓
You'd have to be on meth to spend 18.5k on a 13 year old 4x4 with almost 150k miles.
He didn't even say if it had the 4x4 option. Like half don't come with it as it's not a standard feature, despite the name.
4runners are rust buckets after five years.
Not that 1
How many frame recalls have they had? Tacomas of that time were horrible.
[удалено]
What?
> I am not even sure whether because it was 6 years old when it got rusted worse than your shared picture or it is because of I got stuck on a mud once
Looks good... Cars a lot newer look worse sometimes..
Get that shit exhaust off there and you'll be good.
What rust????? Looks perfect to me.
Negotiate a price that accounts for the price of replacing the exhaust pipe and muffler.
Price seems steep but I don't know your market there
Shoot as being from Ohio this looks mint
Check in from Wisconsin: that is brand new. If you stay in SC, that rust may become a problem when the drive train finally takes a knee at 375k.
That's mint af, I have 150k 2012 and wish it was like this. Only a kinda bit worse but
Honestly not that bad. Treat the rust that’s there now and continue to do so, apply under coating if possible
Looks painted over, you might wanna check
Not bad. Spray it with lanolin if you’re in the rust belt.
Totally fine
Not bad at all
It's kinda suspect that the exhaust has been replaced but looks fine These newish 4 runners don't make sense to me... Get a 2003 you're getting the same engine, transmission, frame, suspension, steering, brakes, and 4x4 system for a literal fraction of the price If you want to get picky about it the 2010 model year is when they introduced dual vvti in the 4.0 which did give it a bump in power and I assume mpg and went from an 8.0" to 8.2" rear differential
No tailpipe is dangerous on a suv for one.
What rust?
Are u trying to get a free used vehicle inspection from the internet?
She’s a beaut

What rust?
Almost brand new in NNY
Yea it will buff out
Mint
It's at 50% life remaining at he's charging 85% of the price of a brand new one. Think about it.
I'd say pretty good. You can't see the inside of the car from underneath.
Includes spare tire? Wow!
That’s brand new. Buy it. Get it undercoated tho
Personally, to much rust. But I'm in a rust free state. My opinion doesn't hold here.
What rust?
The brown is even all over. It’s not in one obvious spot. You still need to get the car inspected, but it doesn’t have an underbody rust issue.
Dude that’s mint
That doesn't count. Beautiful.
What rust?
That's what a brand new car looks like in the UK after a week.
Looks as good as my 2011 4Runner with 170k KMS. Price depends on where you are. In BC that price is good. When I moved from Ontario to BC the value of my 4runner junped $10k. I almost sold it but glad I didnt.
