Concert tickets. I used to buy them, but now when I try to buy them… I just don't.

therealnaughtyxx

Me too: 1. Sees a cool show 2. Goes to investigate the price 3. Gets to the checkout screen 4. Closes tab in a rage 5. Falls asleep crying because I'm too poor to see a band that isn't even that popular anymore.

Chaotic424242

I saw The Who in the late 70's (all original members). $10

redbananass

With inflation, that would be about $50 now. Seeing a major band or artist for $50 nowadays would still be super cheap. Even for smaller artists on national tours that would be a good price.

MuzzledScreaming

It's funny because back in high school in college I would go to shows all the time for $10-15. Now I can find tickets for shows I want to see for $100-$150 sometimes, and proportionally to me that is actually way less money now (since I have a job instead of being a student), but I just can't bring myself to do it.

cleon42

It helps that I hate stadium shows. Yeah, I *could* spent hundreds of dollars to see Metallica on a stage from a quarter-mile away, or I could spend a fraction of that, see a touring act at a local club, and chat with the band at the merch table.

CameronCrazy1984

The only concert I’m going to this summer was Jason Isbell this last Saturday. The venue doesn’t use Ticketmaster, and so tickets for a 2,000 seat outdoor concert were $53 each.

FalseAd4246

I love Jason Isbell, hopefully he does some of his Drive By Truckers stuff.

CameronCrazy1984

Sorry I meant it was this past Saturday. He didn’t do any DBT songs but he did play stuff from Southeastern. Flying Over Water was incredible.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

It’s everything, recently went to a pro basketball game. We were nose bleeds and had about 20 drunken college kids in front of us dressed all in green man and we paid 80 a ticket.

fastpixels

I used to count myself lucky that I was a fan of bands that were big enough to play small arenas or concert halls, but not so big they'd be in huge venues with huge price tags. Now even those lower-mid-range acts are out of my price range.

Ok-Scientist-7900

I remember I have to be surrounded by a bunch of people and that’s enough to dissuade me. The price is just further assurance.

_Goose_

$60 was a lot to me for Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper 2010. Now it’s just absurdly unaffordable.

Xavilend

Same. Slipknot are in town. 300 quid for basic tickets. Uhm, no. I'll just buy a t-shirt with their name on it.

milky_milf496

As a truck driver, I no longer eat any meals out of truck stop restaurants. A T-bone steak dinner at the Petro cost me almost $40 after taxes and a tip. That price was the breaking point for me. Instead, I invested in a vacuum sealer, a Dometic 12-volt fridge/freezer, and a Gas One camping stove. The total initial cost was nearly $1,000, but I expect to recoup that investment in just 3 to 4 months by cutting restaurant meals out of my budget entirely. To put it in perspective, imagine spending $40 on a single meal versus prepping your own food for a fraction of the cost. By using these tools, I can prepare a week's worth of meals for what one restaurant dinner would cost. I've also started brewing my own tea and coffee and using drink mixes instead of buying beverages. For example, a bottle of Gatorade now costs around $3.45, but making your own electrolyte drink with a mix can bring that cost down significantly. Overall, this change has not only saved me money but also allowed me to have more control over what I eat, leading to healthier choices on the road.

GetCorrect

This guy complaining about a T-bone steak dinner being expensive.

CaptainKrunks

It’s a gas station steak. You used to be able to splurge on it for less than $20 a couple of years ago. It’s more than doubled in priced during that time. Wages haven’t come close to doubling.    Edit: you could get a 18 ounce ribeye there for $10 in 2006.  https://www.truckinginfo.com/98096/petro-introduces-new-iron-skillet-summer-menu

areyoueatingthis

btw, “gas station steak” isn’t something very common outside of the US

defroach84

Heh, don't know where you've been, but I've eaten straight meat dishes in many gas stations throughout Europe. They have MANY trucker like stops that have full on buffets. It's pretty much the equivalent. It may not be t-bones, but it's something equivalent depending on the country. Now Asia? No. But they have other street food.

carbon_r0d

It doesn't matter... That's not the point. He was referring to restaurant food prices increasing, and just used that as an example. That is something I believe most of the world can relate to.

GetCorrect

This man dropped a source for a gas station steak. 🤓

Ok-Amoeba-1190

Outrageous

ichosethis

There are also meal heating lunch boxes that you can plug in, there's a mini crock pot version but there's also an insulated lunch box version, just pop the right sized container in, zip it closed, and plug it in. They're great for reheating leftovers.

JimmyD44265

You could likely also add in a Sous Vide from Amazon for under $100. Cook it while driving in those vacuum sealed bags.

Prettynurse5

Remember the old Subway ad for $5 footlongs? $15 footlong doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

RocketPakk

Meanwhile a Costo VP threatened to unalive another VP if they raised the price off the $1.50 hotdog/soda.

cheerio_ninja

Good man. Makes me feel better after I buy organic snack foods my kids probably don't actually need...

triggerhappymidget

It wasn't a VP. It was James D. Sinegal, the co-founder and former CEO of Costco, who said that when the current CEO approached him about raising the price.

SkyJunky444

It hurts…

Legionof1

Doing CSA jokes this early in the morning? Y’all need Jesus.

RocketPakk

Mine were still $15 because I got extra cheese and extra bacon.

pussyqueenxox

I’m old enough to remember when you could get 10 packs of ramen for $1.

mylarky

In the 90s I remember seeing it for 20/1$

RebelRebel62

These deals are how I ate while in college

alady12

In the late 70s I lived in cheap Mac & cheese. 5 for $1 on sale. Splurging was making it with powdered milk instead of plain water. But I had my own apartment and was happy.

ButterscotchEmpty290

Fast food. That's why I don't buy it anymore.

rosieribbons0

Probably a good thing then, home cooked meals are much better for your health.

NYArtFan1

Same here. Where I live, my neighborhood has a number of smaller mom and pop takeout places that are often cheaper than fast food, and the food is fresher.

Flatulatio

Alcohol in Ireland. I'm pretty sure a 4-pack of pints have doubled in price the last two years.

forgot_her_password

Yeah it’s pretty rough alright.   If you’re anywhere near the border take a spin to a supermarket in the north. Massive savings on booze, and even non-booze.   An 18 pack of Coca Cola here is €18 plus another €2.70 for the deposit. Over the border it’s £8 (€9.40) with no deposit.   A 15 pack of beers there is about the same as a 6 pack here, we’re getting fleeced.

Whisele1983

A strange one, but bowling. A few years ago my girlfriend and I went bowling at a local Bowlero and it was maybe $60 for shoe rental and 2 hours of bowling for two people. Just recently we checked prices online so we could go again, and the same rental and playing time is $150! Insanity. Edit to add: this is the only bowling alley left in this medium size city. It used to be an AMF bowling alley before Bowlero. I looked around and the next closest one is in a small town an hour away, so not really viable for quick fun entertainment. And regarding Groupon deals: I checked the app and Bowlero isn’t running any deals there currently. I just checked to see what the pricing would be during peak time, and it’s even more insane: [$242 for two people, one lane for 2 hours, with two shoe rentals.](https://imgur.com/a/m0hFfkW) They added an “event fee”but it’s in no way an event. I hear it’s cheaper if you just show up, but for them to even have that listed is crazy.

ToesocksandFlipflops

That is insane. Our local (Northeastern) candle pin (little balls) on Tuesday night is 2 bucks a string, plus like a 3 dollar shoe rental. On Friday nights it's 20 bucks an hour and like 3.5 a shoe rental. The pizza is like 8 bucks for a 12 inches, and 4.50 local IPAs. My husband, I 4 kids went for a Friday night and ate and drank and bowled for 2 hours, and paid like 150.

MakaliRose

My wife never went Go Karting. I wanted to take her to get something small off of her bucket list. We found an indoor Go Kart track. No other Go Karting places within 50+ miles of us. We each got 2 tickets for Go Karting. Each ticket is good for a 7 minute run. So, 14 minutes each. It cost over $85.

BasicBxtchh

Bowlero took over all of my cities bowling alleys. Literally bought all of them. There were 4. They’re all 150$ like you said. What the actual fuck. Used to be the east side was about that much but it came with go carts and black light bowling.. now just regular bowling. And the shitty west side one they fixed up, don’t get me wrong it looks nice but I haven’t been since I got a Groupon when they opened…

Cutekitten962

I'll start: Potato chips. I’ve lost ten pounds because of it. My doctor even said inflation is the best thing that could have happened to me. No joke.

therealnaughtyxx

I was thinking of Hot Cheetos! They’re about 6 bucks a bag these days. Congrats on the ten-pound loss!

token_bastard

I guess he could say that inflation lead to your deflation, amirite? ...I'll see myself out.

ichosethis

I haven't stopped completely but I've cut way back on soda and definitely do some thinking before buying more. Will probably just decided it's not worth it soon, especially since my Saturday overtime is ending.

Right-Ad-5647

I'm with you on this one.

amber_harrisx2

Framing something. The cost is always way higher than I expect.

md22mdrx

Yeah, crazy high prices for matting & framing.

Leighleigh2u

How much does it cost to frame something ?

dcux

Custom framing has always been stupid expensive. It used to be the craft store had big sales twice a year, like 50% off. Haven't had anything framed in a while.

djnastynipple

$2+ McChicken will never sit right with me.

HoopOnPoop

$1 McChicken never sat quite right, but that's more GI than monetary.

kaueif05

Cereal! It used to be a budget-friendly breakfast, now it feels like I'm buying gold flakes.

md22mdrx

I dunno … I usually stock up when it’s on sale for $1.99/box … unless you’re getting that fancy shit.

Charliewhiskers

Over $7.00 a box! I’ll only buy it now if it’s on sale or a two for one price.

tolacid

Meat.

SenorBlackChin

Beef in particular, even the cuts that used to be bargains.   Pork is relatively cheap and, strangely, chicken breasts and tenderloins, which used to be the parts that cost more.

maybe_little_pinch

I was super surprised to see boneless chicken breast on sale for $1.50/lb yesterday. I bought the limit. Unfortunately it was a digital coupon and I can’t do it a second time.

_SCHULTZY_

$8.99/lb for choice chuck roast is fuckin depressing.

darksoft125

The only reason my wife and I can afford to eat meat is because we have a freezer and can buy meat when it's on sale. Don't know how everyone else is making it work financially.

TheIowan

My god, when that stupid "thor's hammer" cut became all the rage it drove the price of beef shanks from like $1/lb to $12. That used to be my go to cheap dinner.

cleon42

Fast food's appeal used to be that it was fast and cheap. It's still fast...some of the time. But for the same price I can eat at McDonald's, I can get Chinese food, a plate at a local diner, a sub, or a hundred other, usually healthier, options. Sometimes it even costs *less*, too.

AgreeableProvocateur

Food. Just all of it really.

Annh1234

Pizza, it starts with 8.99$ unlimited pizzas. You add two or three to the cart and after tax and delivery your total is 140$... I get pist every time.

GetCorrect

The dollar sign goes before the amount.

Kayakityak

Your username is perfect for you. Putting the $ sign ahead of the number is correct, but really it should be after the number. The way we say dollar amounts is “ten dollars” not dollars ten. I propose we normalize putting the sign after.

GetCorrect

No it shouldn't be. It just denotes that it's USD. That's the way it's formated.

Kayakityak

I know, I know. When reading and writing though, it would be easier to do it the other way. Just my opinion.

MysticalMirage99

I am an old man and have cut back on a lot of things. I cook all of my meals myself now sure saves a ton of cash. One thing that has dropped in price thankfully is weed. I have terrible arthritis and it helps me forget the pain just a little. Long live cheap weed!

Pluviophilism

Food. Like almost any food. Just regular groceries are so expensive.

Mantileo

Everything in the grocery store. In 2019 I could spend $70 on just myself and be able to eat for a week and a half minimum, two and a half weeks max. Now if I want something for the next week I have to drop upwards of $170

theoutrageousgiraffe

Have you noticed how expensive drinks are? Like just plain ole soda at a fast food place is like minimum $3.5. $5 at a sit down place. That’s fucking crazy.

Born_Habit2547

Underwear and bras. $40 for one bra??? Meanwhile the underwire breaks after like 20 uses.

MakaliRose

I invested in Under Armour high impact sports bras. Had em for over 2 years and look completely brand new. No over stretching etc. I got em all on sale. I absolutely cannot stand underwire so these work very well. Lift you up and don't bounce.

yellowbungalow

try being a larger size ; $70 to start.

MakaliRose

I am. ;) That's why I switched to sports bras. $70 plus is ridiculous.

TilapiaTango

Internet. It's outrageous.

stootchmaster2

Comic Books. I used to walk out of the store with a mighty STACK of comics for forty bucks. Now forty bucks gets me maybe 8-10 comic books. . .MAYBE. The LOW price for a new comic is $3.99. Most of them are $5.99. I've been collecting comics since the 1980s. For the first time, I've just about decided enough is enough.

KateEatsKale

Videogames Gig tickets Theatre tickets Train tickets

Lainy122

There was some sort of crop failure in Australia recently, and red capsicums (I think Americans call them bell peppers?) are $13 a kilo atm, when they were $2 a kilo only a couple of months ago. A lot of my fav recipes call for one, but I have been trying other recipes while waiting for the price to come back down lol

Otherwise-Fox-151

Grapes did that recently. It was almost 3.00 a lb for about 4 months and just recently dropped down to 1.89, probably because they were rotting in the bags. (Looked like it at the stores) before the price spike they were around 1.20 a lb though. I know because they were a staple in my husband's lunch for years.

AdRude7377

Eyeglasses for those of us with vision so poor that the lenses need to be ground down, lest they wind up looking like coke bottles. All the discount websites for eyeglasses out there are exclusively focused on frames. Need the lenses ground down (even worse if they’re bifocals) and you’re spending a minimum of $450 before all is said and done.

Hvr-

McDonald’s

Mango_Tango_725

Macdonald’s is not even filling. Paying that much for a burger the diameter of a palm and thin patties is just not worth it. I normally don’t order fast food because of the price, but for the sake of Fourth of July I will indulge in a burger, not from Macdonald’s though.

Fluffy_Meat1018

It's insane. I live in NJ. I bought an egg Mcmuffin, and a bacon egg and cheese biscuit at McDonald's yesterday and it was 9.57. I hardly ever go to any fast food joints, but now I won't be going at all.

No-Tower-1374

Because you need to use the app 🤦‍♂️

darksoft125

It used to be cheap and fast. Then during the pandemic they were short staffed so it was slow but at least it was still cheap. Now it's not even cheap.  Hopefully they go out of business soon so other corps learn that customers won't put up with being abused.

highermom

Concert tickets - I need a loan just to see my favorite band these days.

Leighleigh2u

Taco Bell

MakaliRose

I know that for sure. Shouldn't be $15-$20 to fill me. Shouldn't have to spend 6 or 7 bucks on a burrito that's half full.

Leighleigh2u

Join the revolution and make spam accounts to get a free taco on the app lol

MakaliRose

Already done my friend! 😆

Otherwise-Fox-151

Makes me very glad it only takes a couple soft tacos or a bean burrito to fill me up. Those Cinnabon bites though... the price is stupid but they are sooo good. And not having to make yeast dough or risk a serious oil burn making them myself, almost worth it.

MakaliRose

Well yeah. If I go the cheap route, I can fill up on 10 or less. But, I really like their cantina menu so there's that. I went on a splurge recently and it's just too much anymore so the only take out I get now is pizza, Chinese food or Raising Cane's (just got these where I live and 10000% better than ChikFilA imo).

zeebious

I remember when $20 worth of Taco Bell was a joke. A meal so large that it was a challenge to finish. People legitimately wouldn’t believe that you had even gotten close.

Leighleigh2u

I keep making new rewards account to combat the inflation by getting a free taco . I refuse to spend money there until they get their prices right

JTHuffy

Deodorant is like 6 bucks a stick now

IcedT_NoLemon

I started trimming my pit hair very close. Now all of the deodorant is on my skin where it's useful instead of stuck in the hair. A stick lasts much longer.

offspringphreak

That actually sounds like a good idea, I wouldn't think it would help, but now I'm curious. I'm definitely gonna try it. Thanks for sharing the tip!

MakaliRose

And I notice when someone doesn't have 6 bucks.

redtrusk

Petrol! I'm in Europe rn and I have a heart attack every time I stop at a gas station

Aussiebiblophile

I don’t smoke but the cost of cigarettes here is almost $60 a pack of 25 which is about $40 USD. I’m shocked every time I see someone fork over that much money. A pack a day habit is as much as weekly rent.

MakaliRose

Where do you live? I'm in the USA in one of the most expensive places to purchase cigarettes. I thought I saw a Newport sign that said $11.87USD/pack. It's still ridiculous and I am glad I don't have that addiction.

Aussiebiblophile

Australia. Probably close to 70% of the cost is tax as part of the Government’s plan to force people to quit by making them unaffordable.

MakaliRose

Wow that's crazy.

drive_she

Right!!?? I’m shocked every time I see someone smoking cigarettes! I automatically assume they make a lot of money…

Fluffy_Meat1018

That's absolutely insane.

Otherwise-Fox-151

That is crazy wow. I smoked for 20 years and switched to vaping about 5 years ago. It runs me around 30.00 for two weeks worth of coils and juice. Better still I don't stink like stale cigarette smoke and I only cough when I catch a cold.

daero90

Crawfish, I used to go to a crawfish boil and get it for about a dollar a pound. Now some places are asking for $10+ per pound, and it's absurd.

Complete_Entry

Cheese. Price keeps going up, portions keep going down.

MuzzledScreaming

Out of curiosity what does it cost near you now? I've been paying about $2.50 for 8 oz of the brand I like (Cabot), could probably pay a bit less for cheaper cheese.

Complete_Entry

I haven't seen Cabot in a dog's age, but that was also my favorite. My prices are about on par.

Bettyhound_

Gum. At the gas station I work at in Canada it has been slowly going up, it’s now $3 for a small pack.

imbrotep

Black cherries. Crazy expensive.

zeebious

Dude, I just bought a bag yesterday. $15……. What the fuck. Luckily no one was buying them so they had a $7 discount but holy shit.

imbrotep

It’s truly crazy. I only buy them when they’re on sale.

unsettledinky

One of the things I appreciate most about moving states a few years ago - I'm eating local black cherries for breakfast right now that were 1.99/lb.

vishesche

Petrol is pretty expensive here in India. And my car gives me a very low fuel economy, so its really bad.

rsgoto11

To me what’s really strange is the imbalance of prices. When I go food shopping, I buy what I want. I’m not super frugal, but I’m also not buying processed food mostly. I’ll buy some crackers and chicken salad as a treat. The rest is the, if it will rot, that’s what you eat. That usually runs $150-$200 for a week. At the same time I can buy a nice TV for $200. That’s fucked up.

Mine used to do senior discounts and everything you can fit in your cart for like 5.00 Sundays. That was at the beginning of covid when I first found my thrifting addiction lol. Those days are gone though. They even removed the fitting rooms because they know most people won't bother returning a 7.00 pair of jeans within the 3 day limit. (They say it's bcuz of shoplifting but bullshit) I buy a lot less and still keep my total below 20.00 because fk that. About the time of covid people discovered reselling so I know that has a lot to do with it to.
